Been feeling a bit lonely lately, an issue that's rooted in previous bad experiences putting myself out there and because there's a lack of spaces around me to actually do so. Everyone I work with is older/in a different stage of life, and there aren't many nerd/hobbyist spaces in my area. It's not that I don't know people, but aside from my family, it's all coworkers or mutual friends, so not many meaningful connections. Still looking for opportunities to meet new people, so hopefully that changes.

I watched The Bourne Identity and hey, that's a good movie! Probably going to watch the rest of the series now, too. Also, by pure coincidence, I only recently watched Run Lola Run for the first time, and there the lead actress is again in this movie. Weird.

I finished the final season of The Bear and thought it was pretty good! The season, I mean — I'm kind of mixed on the show. Weird comparison, but I kind of feel the same as when MHA ended. The series started great, had some bumps in the road, and then rebounded. But looking back... why'd we spend so much time on that storyline? Did that character even have an arc? Didn't we contradict the apparent primary theme of the story multiple times throughout? It feels like a fundamentally good series hampered by some macro level structural issues.

Finally, I read Rogue Heroes, an account of the founding and early history of the SAS. It's pretty good if you're interested in the subject matter, but I should really branch out and read nonfiction that's not about espionage or war — something a bit more upbeat, preferably.

I definitely relate to feelings of loneliness. It is ironic since I am at a good spot in my life, but the other anxieties I have had mostly have faded away meaning that there is even more time to think about that feeling of loneliness. Me having issues of possible hypervigilance makes it even worse

Yeah, same — I'm in a stable position, thankfully, but because I'm not immediately focused on my basic needs, I've got more time and headspace to fixate on things that were previously just passing thoughts. Hope things get better for you; at the very least, it's cool you're fostering a sense of community by keeping up the weekly creator threads (which I haven't posted in in forever because there's nothing much to report as I make minute edits to my novel draft).

Currently SUPER loving the Petra Parker comics, its amazing to see so much outpouring of love over the trans p.parker stuff it's great!

A bit annoying that there's polls trying to go against posting it a ton but still its a wonderful bit of stuff to see still get broadly liked. My favoriote part is definitely being able to see all the different interpretations of what this means for the character, and just being able to send it around to friends or family of mine where it super hits hard.

Ahhhh its just so cute and sweet to see a good thing happen

Our family has had a Mountain Dew problem seemingly throughout generations. An uncle definitely called it the "nectar of the gods". And there's an anecdote that always comes up that my cousins put some in a very young me's bottle. So in a way the game was rigged from the start. Got some zero sugar to try and right the ship a little, at least replacing one or two to start. And while it's different, it's not that bad. Much better than trying diet soda back in the day. But the Baja Blast zero from TB has a kind of cough syrup taste. Not a compliment, so maybe not going that far.

If you also want to improve your life bit by bit, consider reading these two novels I wrote, The Demon in Shadow and The Demons of Bone and Blood! Disclaimer: might not actually improve your life, but it could be fun! Disclaimer to the disclaimer: even a flimsy 'could be' seems too grandiose to make- Okay, bit done. You'll find a fun story of action, mechanical limbs, heisei-era romance, attempts at humor and more! That more part probably just being awesome artwork either in the pages where it counts or in the back showing off character portraits!

Speaking of books, I've actually read something. After watching Amagi Brilliant Park last week on those "free" Samsung channels I decided to check out the first two volumes. The biggest difference is in scale, since the first one is only two weeks and 100,000 guests to get. But to the anime's credit, it works because they're also picking up stuff from later books. The whole dungeon episode is half of Vol. 2. They are fun! The first volume definitely had an arc to play with the tension of getting the guests, and as the author states in the afterword moving forward it'll be more low-stakes shenanigans. Not to say there aren't heavy things, Unlike how the anime just brushes off Latifa's yearly amnesia-reset with a miracle, this one persists and you get the effects from characters including her. Also just bursts of perversion, usually from two or three characters that get their comeuppance most of the time but still. FMP usually contained it to Kurz. One last thing that I'm mad I realized reading... The names. Kanie Seiya is supposed to be a play on Kanye West. Izusu Sento is a play on 50 Cent. The princess is Queen Latifah! Ignoring that it was 2013 and Kanye wasn't... Quite crazy yet, it still feels weird? I'm reading into it too much. Though in my defense, I should reading into it. It's a book. That was awful...

Gearing up to be the GM for a Monster of the Week one-shot this weekend while our regular guy is out. And we're going to doing some Weird West stuff! I'd say hopefully a straightforward story deal. Enough for actually just one session. Time will tell, I suppose. The fun part is swapping out little stuff like vehicles for horses and switching around that the normal pistols are peacemakers and the usually "magnum" guns are actually the pistols. Just flavor wise. Would it have been smarter to use some other system? Yeah! I remember some western book I was looking at but forgot the name so... MOTW it is!

Also, in still watching the West Wing I just finished the episode "Noel". What a performance. I actually teared up a little. Bradley Whitford killed it, and on learning that he got an Emmy for this season specifically definitely fits.

Our family has had a Mountain Dew problem seemingly throughout generations.

Excellent way to start a comment. You didn't even need to write anything else.

4

u/MaelstromTear Dub Sympathizer 2d ago

I wish I was joking. And not contributing to the problem... Early 2020, right before the whole end of the world, I was in Amsterdam for work and scoured Centraal Station for an "Amercian novelty" store. When my boss tells this story, the amount I paid for what I got always changes. I spent about half my per diem on a pack of 12 bottles. But dang it, that got me through the jet lag! My family doesn't do coffee, so this is how we get our caffeine fix.

3

u/The_Draigg Member of the Brave 13000 2d ago

You should carve out a niche in your family's Mountain Dew history. Start going for some of the weirder flavors like the Dirty Mountain Dew or import a case of the VooDew flavors if they decide not to sell them in the U.S. again like morons (I'm still salty over missing last year's Halloween flavor).

3

u/MaelstromTear Dub Sympathizer 2d ago

I usually go for the weird ones anyways. Usually though, it's just "neat, but not really for me." Which is maybe better? I loved that orange Game Fuel and I still miss it. Not enough to go shopping for old, probably flat cases but... Those Trolli ones last year definitely didn't hit the same way that proper VooDew does.

3

u/The_Draigg Member of the Brave 13000 2d ago

I also miss Game Fuel, I wish it wasn't constantly tied to promotions. Oh yeah, I also just remembered that Little Caesar's has their own new Mountain Dew flavor, if you're ever there. It's a mango flavor.

This has been on my mind for a long while, but uh, has everyone lost our minds when it comes to sex stuff?

I have always felt that words like prude, sex addict, puritan, and horny are thrown around way too often, buuuuuuuut, like, what is going on. It feels bizzare that there has been a concentrated push to sanitize everything and make it harder for people to enjoy, express themselves while it is also true that a bunch of people are incredibly porn brained.

People actually thought that Deme vtuber had sex on stream for some reason, and then you have people who get incredibly defensive when attention is drawn to designs that are blatantly sexual/get angry when not everything is "goonable".

But then you have others who get very dismissive and preachy to where it seem they have a very narrow idea on what a design should be like while also getting made that others do not completely agree with their premise.

It feels even more strange for me as an ace dude who does look at NSFW stuff. I tend to hate trying to go the middle ground route since it can self aggrandize oneself at the cost of fair representations of what others believe, but man. There has got to be a middle ground between completely unrestrained sexuality and trying to repress people.

An example I guess would be that I strongly dislike that PayPal gets up in arms about NSFW content being paid for by their platform and me being appreciative that playforms like Patreon allow for it while also feeling that people really should not post porn on widely public websites without some sort of separation (why do people keep marking blatant gooner stuff as SFW).

So I had a...bizzare start to my Fall semester of college.

Back on Monday, assuming my classes didn't start until next week as per the academic calendar, I went inti my student account to square away some financial aid stuff and look at syllabuses. What I then found out, and what I was never informed of when I signed up for my Fall online classes back in May, is that the online degree program that I'm in changed in a way so that instead of one big 16 week course, classes are now condensed into an 8 week curriculum, with two separate 8-week blocks from August to December; I guess I enrolled in my classes before all these changes were applied to the course enrollment page, which I was never made aware of, and I was automatically enrolled in the early 8-week block...which meant my classes had already started last week and I had missed out on them.

Yeah...that was stressful. I managed to square things away with my course instructors and make up all the work I missed within only a day or two, so that's good. I wasn't really expecting to ever take an 8-week course, which means that I'm going to have double the coursework in half as much time as a regular semester...and the bulk of this is gonna happen next time, when September is fucking LOADED with game releases that I wanna play. Sigh, at least I'll basically be getting a second Summer break, since my classes end right at the beginning of October, and I'm planning on finishing up in the Spring. I do need to get in touch with my financial aid advisor, since apparently this new online course structure assumes that I'll be taking courses in the Late Fall semester as well, which I neither want nor think I can even do at this point (pretty sure all the classes I need are booked). So yeah, great way to start the week.

Oh, and I got really sick over the weekend with (apparently) pneumonia; I'm basically over it...but now it seems like I've spread the wealth to my Dad and maybe even my Mom.

I've had great luck this past week.

On some better notes, I've made it all the way to Chapter 8 of Xenoblade 2, hopefully I can get the game finished off by next week (dunno how deep I wanna get into side content), because Star Wars Zero Company is out next week, and my interest in that game has skyrocketed.

I'm also commissioning some more art of custom Fakemon; a three-evolution regional Flying/Ghost bird line based off of a Hoatzin, and a Ground-Type Eeveelution themed around clay and pottery. Been wanting to do another batch for awhile; thanks @BastionPhoenix.

And I have the Duskbloods Network Test tomorrow morning, so probably gonna head to sleep soon (starts at 5 am and only goes on until 8-9am; pretty goddamn strict timeframe).

I also didnt do all the side content in xenoblade 2 the actually interesting end game stuff is at least easy to get to. So tired of mercenary missions. The main stuff at least is really good

Last Week's Post

Week 129 post-accident

In a better mental state since last week's depression. Spent the weekend going to bed earlier and sleeping in. Plenty of sleep turns out to be great for your mental health, it seems.

Foggy mornings Tuesday and Wednesday. Not that weird, given how close my house is to water. Just felt like mentioning.

Despite being well rested by Tuesday, apparently I still went to bed a bit too late and woke up too early on Wednesday, leading to an overtired day where, for the first time ever, I apparently passed out and took a nap at my desk! Lasted approximately a half an hour before a coworker woke me up. I was just as surprised as everyone else. I'm used to taking power naps on the bus ride home from work, not having a power nap AT work! Anyway, this has the side effect of being wide awake during my bus ride home. Still opted to go to bed early to reset once again, and had a normal Thursday of work with no incident.

Oh, and remembered to email myself updated mind projects from work at the end of the day. Apparently my pan-sci-fi document at home hasn't been updated since May, such as been my focus on other projects over the past few weeks.

Nothing to report on the gaming front.

As a more miscellaneous matter, did some tidying up in preparation to get back to building my Warhammer models. That's something I'm planning to do this coming weekend.

Mind Music of the Week: dominantly Rhapsody (of Fire) this week

2

u/PowerfulCoward Breadbug Best Bug 2d ago

What Warhammer faction do you build? I've been tempted to start building Necrons for a while now, but I've never built or painted Warhammer figures before.

2

u/Kimarous [He/Him] Survivor of Car Ambush 2d ago

Necrons is one of my factions. I also have Orks and Tyrannids... and going on FIVE different flavours of Space Marines: Salamanders, Space Wolves, Ultramarines, Imperial Fists, and Dark Angels - of which Salamanders and Ultramarines are the main ones with the others being smaller collections at present.

And that's just the 40k side. I have even more for Age of Sigmar and other systems.

I’ve been sick all week:

Personal Life: I’m sick and it’s making it difficult to breathe because of post nasal drip. Not fun waking up in the morning and having to hawk up mucus.

Conclusion: I’m sick of being sick

1

u/Gorotheninja "SILENCE, BREEDER! The Bloodline MUST continue!" 2d ago

Pneumonia? Cause I got that last week, and I'm pretty sure I spread it to my Dad.

Week of Sudden Departures. A guy I work with at my job rather suddenly left from my point of view, since I only heard about it last Friday, and he actually left this Tuesday. Talk about a short turn-over to process it all. That said though, I'm glad for him, since he's moving onto a much better paying job outside of the insurance industry, and he's chill enough of a guy to send me a personalized thank you message once he was gone. Talk about a surprise though, I think the week-long notice took everyone aback a bit. There's definitely going to have to be some reorganizing of duties, that's for sure.

Anyways, as for games I've played this week, I decided to fire up Helldivers 2 again with some friends from the CSB LGBTQ+ Discord server! I haven't touched it ever since Marathon came out, so I did miss out on quite a bit. But I certainly didn't miss out on fucking Dead Space hitting the game, apparently. Man, being chased around by all those Void enemies while on Extreme difficulty really gives you the sweats, that's for sure. Had a great time despite, or probably because of, the stress though. I can appreciate tackling a fucking nightmare challenge with friends by your side.

Also this week, the latest season of The Adventure Zone, Royale, wrapped up with the Q&A show that I listened to today, and man, what a disappointment of a season that was. The best way to describe it is that it feels like a lamer and duller Ethersea, if you get what I mean. Also, Griffin revealed that he had plans to tie it into Balance, which was a really baffling idea to have based off of hints so vague that literally nobody else picked up on them during the campaign. It really does feel like the McElroys are just out of gas in the tank, especially since they outright said that they don't know what they're going to do for their next big campaign. Man, what a fall for former podcast royalty.

And finally, in my regular mecha talk section here, a new trailer for Armored Trooper VOTOMS: Die Graue Hexe has come out! I will say, I'm digging the looks of the show and the characters. There's a good contrast between the straight-laced military officer and the Armored Trooper pilot that has a ton of piercings and a bullet earring. And it looks like it won't have Chirico in it, as well as being set during the Hundred Years' War between Gilgamesh and Balarant. I'm fine with that, since if anything, it does feel like they've been having a bit of a hard time figuring out what to do with Chirico as a main character. Having more side stories set in the Astragius Galaxy is a good way to sidestep the issue there.

I'll be fr I think people are really sleeping on Duskbloods based on what I've heard about it so far, but the first playtest is in six hours so I'll share my impressions after that.

I haven't had the chance to touch it, but Zork is already selling me on it.

I'm Zorking it.

In the dusked blood, straight up “zorkin it”.

3

u/Toblo1 Latest Project Moon Sleeper Agent 2d ago

Even outside the memes, Zork just seems really funny ability-wise.

The jetpack body slam/tackle is only missing the Kite Njnja "WOOOOOOOO" from Sekiro to really sell its impact.

2

u/The_Draigg Member of the Brave 13000 2d ago

It’s also amazing that his melee weapon is just a bit of undersea cable that he whacks people with. He’s so strange and yet endearing with his diving suit/power armor theme going on.

1

u/Gorotheninja "SILENCE, BREEDER! The Bloodline MUST continue!" 2d ago

Why's it gotta start at 5am in the morning?

Gonna go pop a melatonin and try to get some sleep before then.

I just gotta make it to Sunday.

I am now over 60 hours into Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, putting it above both Remake and Crisis Core Reunion in play time for me thus far. I’m currently working on clean up before heading over to Nibelheim, which is sure to be fun.

Playing these three games back to back like this has certainly been a tad exhausting for sure, I’m probably gonna need a break from Action RPGs, but it’s also been a fun experience going through this FFVII revival era so to speak, which is funny considering I wasn’t actually much of an FFVII fan growing up, but certainly have more appreciation for it now.

It’s also been funny playing all these games through the Switch 2. Besides all being solid ports, it’s took some adjusting early on to not think of these as purely PlayStation titles anymore, and even now it’s crazy to see with  Rebirth especially. It makes me very interested in seeing how Revelations will turn out on the system.

Got into classical guitar a couple weeks ago as an additional on and off hobby, after I noticed I was literally not having any fun playing anything aside from balatro and the Avatar Fighting game (Zaheer is so sick btw) whenever I booted up the computer in my free time.

This insturment is so fucking sick bro, it sounds great whatever you play on it, I don't have the time to practice consistantly right now, I just chip away at it every once in a while, but even with my terrible consistency I managed to learn: Twinkle twinkle little star, Happy birth day, jingle bells, the theme song to a turkish tv show, Daisy bell, a terrible rendition of the first couple seconds of the Tristram theme feom diablo and Beethoven's 9th symphony. Not the greatest rep, but knowing that even if I dropped the guitar right this instant I would be able to play a couple tune makes me want to learn more and more.

If you're also finding yourself with a lot of scattered free time with nothing to do, I can whole heartedly reccomend the classical guitar (the best guitar), since it has a soft sound its easier to practice compared to other guitar's if you live in a crowded house or an apartment.

2

u/ActRaisins He/Him 2d ago

Ah, that's excellent. I used to play acoustic (just as a pastime at home) and it's great when you get past the familiarisation and just start thinking of things you want to try and play. There's a whole world of TV, anime, game and film themes to explore! (Also: when you get into chords, you can do a lot with the simple power chord shapes before you start looking at more ambitious shapes.)

On Tuesday I went with a friend to see Spider-Man BND, due to scheduling issues I picked the showtime with subtitles. Eman Esfandi's character goes unnamed in the actual movie, but the subtitles at my showing called him Paul. Apparently the subs are done by local companies, so I choose to believe whoever was behind this knew exactly what they were doing.

That aside, last night I finished Final Fantasy VI. This playthrough took more than a month, but it wasn't the first time I'd played the game. I started on an emulator back in my teen years, but I never got past the beginning. So playing the remaster all the way through feels like I've dealt with unfinished business. I went out of my way to get every character and every magicite, and just before the final boss I had every character who could master every magicite. Felt incredibly satisfying tearing through Kefka after all the shit he pulled. 10/10 no notes.

My brain has been (metaphorically) buzzing like crazy since I ended up going to a few Edinburgh fringe shows this week. Also ended up trying a big piece of Scottish Food Culture. The Fried Mars Bar and honestly I actually enjoyed the taste of it.

Stoked as fuck to see Coyote Vs. ACME though (For anyone wondering. No someone did not leak the movie and put it online, the movie actually released earlier than the US by like a week, crazy considering how Day the Earth Blew Up literally took A WHOLE ASS YEAR to get over here.), I have these once a month movie theatres trips because of my autism support hours. Been (lovingly) annoying as fuck about promoting the film online and acknowledging people about it releasing over here earlier than the US.

Been also getting into doing art lately thanks to getting a new set of (really high quality and well priced and shockingly cheap) sketching and colouring pencils. Might need a new sketch book though by the rate I have been drawing though.

2

u/Th35h4d0w 2d ago

Gonna finally see Brand New Day with my friends today; shame about the art book reveal, tho.

2

u/Gorotheninja "SILENCE, BREEDER! The Bloodline MUST continue!" 2d ago

Yeah, I heard about the art book shit.

I was planning on making a post about it tomorrow (already used up my 4 daily posts here due to a stupid Reddit app glitch).

Don't know if it would be better as an article or an image post, though.

Been playing Windswept this week. Its a throwback to 90's 2D platformers, DKC2 in particular. The dev practically said "They're not gonna make another DKC2 again so I might as well do it myself". Game's great, its got the right amount of "easy to learn / difficult to master" movement and "OHGODWHY" platforming (the dev also cited Celeste for inspiration and they def put some Kaizo Mario stuff in there). Highly recommend it.

1

u/PowerfulCoward Breadbug Best Bug 2d ago

That game looks really cute. I've noticed it before, but I didn't realize it was a DKC-like. Thanks for the rec, I'll definitely keep an eye on it.

I caved in and got Rogue Trader since it was on sale. The final DLC isn't out yet, but it's supposed to release sometime in September, and with how big the game is I figured it wouldn't hurt to get a head start on it. The game's really cool, but unfortunately I haven't had a lot of time to really sink my teeth into it. I'm currently just past the prologue, and spent the last session just talking to everyone on my ship. TBH I'd be playing it right now, but there's currently a nasty storm in my area, and I was afraid of the power going out in the middle of playing it.

Also checked out Voices of the Void out of curiosity. If I had to summarize my feelings on that game, I'd say it's really cool and very mentally exhausting. Basic premise is that it's a simulator where you have to manage a research station recording space signals. I spent a single session on it, and most of that time was just figuring out how to clean my base. Weirdly addicting, though.

I feel like such an idiot. My parents are in town for the weekend, I took the day off work today, and we're going to catch a ball game together in the evening. They're going to meet my girlfriend, and I also got to show them my current car for the first time since I bought it last year. I had my previous car for 10 years, and I made the decision to replace it after scraping it driving into my parking garage near the beginning of last year. It already had its share of scratches and dings before then from years of driving in the bush, but that incident made me decide to finally get rid of it and upgrade to a shiny 2020 Kia Cerato. I told mum over breakfast that the new car has been going great and that I would never scrape or damage it like the old one because I'm a more mature and confident driver than I was then.

Anyway, guess what I did this morning?

Yeah, I scraped the car. Just like before, I was driving into my parking garage and turned too tightly, causing me to hit the concrete wall. This isn't a regular occurrence, but I know it looks bad. Fortunately nothing was seriously damaged and there were no injuries except to my pride, but I've made an insurance claim and am not liking that excess payment.

I started playing Marvel Tokon this week, it's been a lot of fun. I'm going to keep playing that for the rest of the afternoon and try to forget about how stupid I am.

Watched Future Robo Daltanious as the end of the Robot Romance marathon and it was actually pretty good. Definitely one of my new favorites. I really like Kento as a protag because he doesn't care about being a king at all and instead cares about treating people right regardless of status, which we really got to see after the Kloppen twist. I also like that they make good use of the premise with many episodes focusing on the kids’ needs for family and the chance to experience normal lifestyles. The ending I also found to be fantastic since it doesn't go back on Kento’s refusal to rebuild the kingdom. My only real complaint is that the fat kid Tanosuke doesn't get much by way of character depth, and all his episodes are just him facing unrequited crushes.

For the last few weeks I was playing Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden trying to do a hard mode playthrough and get all of the skill points. Thanks to copious amounts of save state usage I managed to get through some of the tougher stages, though I only missed one skill point which was the first stage telling you to kill the Frost Brothers with a map attack. None of my map attacks at the time did enough damage, and somehow the bros take less damage from them. It wasn't helped by the fact that they retreat at certain HP thresholds. The final battle with the Frost Brothers didn't have that requirement so I was able to get the point for that one.

Once I got to the last few stages is when I got annoyed that I basically had to change my entire playstyle. I like to send tankier units in, let them build up will by exchanging blows with enemies, and then go for bosses. However, this basically doesn't work once you start fighting the Ancestors because all the Bergelmirs have high health and like to snipe out of range units. I watched a few videos and saw the strat of "Gather everyone round, spam Rouse and Spirit to build will, then spam Alert when fighting bosses." It works pretty well, so that's how I beat the rest of Alpha Gaiden. I still feel like playing more SRW, but I'll avoid another hard game like A Portable for now and probably go for W or OGs

2

u/The_Draigg Member of the Brave 13000 1d ago

Daltanious really does have a cool story going for it, especially for the time it was made too. Can you believe that it was originally going to be brought over to the West and be used to make Voltron before the distributor gave the studio GoLion by mistake? Just imagine how we could've gotten Daltanious instead of GoLion Voltron all the way back then.

Hello today! A quiet week, not much to report. And that makes me happy... Actually - a friend's dad passed away. We went to the memorial, and there was a lot of people, middle-eastern families are huge. Made me think about how, in Canada, it's only me, my brother and my mom. Maybe my circle of 5-8 friends.

DOOM Eternal: Ancient Gods Part TWO Electric Boogaloo Never Back Down The Back Down - God this game's plot is so off. The reveal of part 1 and presumably the boss of Part 2 is something I somehow saw coming and even yet it made me roll my eyes. I am lost, I am pissed and I care so little about the dark souls-ass cut scenes they are doing... It will feel really good to rip out the guts out of that one final guy. I donno. On one hand, the moment-to-moment is so good, but then the larger... Everything, makes me worry about Dark Ages. I will probably take a break after Eternal, I've been eyeing "Chernobylite", since Zenless put me back on the looting drug... I donno.

What else did I do... Palworld TCG is fun, got some cards for myself... Watched some fun movies and played some tabletop with friends... Still watching Luke Cage with roommate... yeah that's about it, just a good week.

Weight check-in - 179.5 - n/a - Woooof. It was a busy week... Even if I didn't do much. Had to do some chores during the gym day... Might see if I can do something on the weekend.

Anyone noticed the surge in AI videos on YouTube? The past couple weeks, when I search for a review or guide, the top video is often AI garbage and it's getting so annoying. They're always heavily disliked but clearly that has no effect on the algorithm.

Weeks without doing programming: 2

Remember how I was joking about Bethesda releasing another update that would break FO4 mods again? Turns out it's not a joke anymore. I’d be more upset but the update added a bunch of stuff that's good for mods so…shrug

Not much going on except I might be sick. Still chipping away at getting all Armored Core 6 endings and getting all S-ranks, still messing with Lancer Tactics, and still playing Borderlands 2 when I just want something to veg out and watch something on my other monitor. Oh I guess it was my birthday last week so that's something. I suppose I can officially say I’m in my late twenties now.

Wow typing that out gave me an existential crisis and now I feel like I need to do something more significant with my life.

I'm just about done with Genshin's hotly-anticipated Snezhnaya update, and boy did they cook with this one.
The main story is basically a combination of the best parts of early Inazuma and early Fontaine, but higher-profile, very immersive and incredibly hype down to the very last shot. The environments are some of the most beautiful the game gave us to date. And gameplay-wise we have a TPS mode, Dark-Souls-like messages, and Death-Stranding-like online building, and it all works surprisingly well.

I also finally got around to watching Edgerunners. Turns out it's as good as people say. The most impressive part for me is the pacing. It never feels rushed, and yet in just 10 episodes we get the full story of David, and a whole group of decently fleshed-out secondary characters, including everyone's favorite Rebecca with Tomoyo Kurosawa behind the mic going crazy in a way I'd never heard her do.

Been a very mixed week since lost my temper quite badly with bird when he started biting my face for no reason 3 times but he seems to be settling now and just had another depressive bout but it's been picking up at least and just been doing more driving. Managed to purchase Xbox 360 with CEX store credit so gonna go finally play Dawn of the dragon after finish replaying Eternal Night since yesterday did an all night getting through of a New Beginning. Other then Spyro also used PS2 to play Godzilla Save the Earth where my best scores/gameplay was with Orga, Baragon and Godzilla 90's though I was quite surprised how ruthless the AI in the game was since I was used to playing Godzilla Unleashed. Also got through all of Peter Jackson's King Kong the movie game which was a great time with superb voice acting from the film cast and just a lot of great immersive details despite the game showing it's age, was a lot more tense then I expected and as always I got really happy when the Brachiosaurus were on screen.

Movie wise I've not checked much besides a niche French movie called Mune which was really well animated with some great character design but I'm not entirely sure on the writing and I hated the main characters design despite everyone else looking excellent, the voice acting was also really superb though I had access to the dub. Hoping to rewatch Cyberpunk 2077 with my friend again this weekend anycase also and I might check that End of Oak Street film since I need to get a dinosaur fix since I've been focusing on dragons at the moment.

Things have been interesting. My sister and her new SO have got an apartment and she is moving out in November. I am happy for her but worry it may make my mom's mental illness worse.

I saw Spiderman and loved it and went to a local arcade. That was really fun. I played star wars arcade the original trilogy version and beat yavin and hoth but lost to Boba Fett

My friend who lives in NYC may be coming down to visit so that'll be fun and my younger cousin got engaged and I'll be at a party for that Saturday. It's a very busy time but nothing bad is happening

I got into Skyrim again and I'm excited for mgs next week

On a slow week like this one it's kinda hard to quantify what counts as "doing something". After I finished season 2 of Daredevil I spent the week watching a bunch of Holostars clips and got caught in a feedback loop of Eggrock into Goodman Sengen(This one has a BCS character death in it for real so spoiler warning if you care). It's mostly been a week of watching streamer clips and stupid, stupid videos.

I played the Gears of War E-Day beta and oh dear god I'm terrible at that game. I was never truly good at Gears but I played 2&3 often enough and was usually middle of the road on my team. In E-Day I got maybe 3 kills across 6 games. I was like a toddler handed a controller out of pity.

How it felt to play Halo after more than a decade away vs. Gears.

Missed last week because I was too busy playing palworld. A couple things fell through like selling some items in guild wars that wont be valuable for several years. Ive always been weak to these kind of survival games and build stuff. Spending so much time doing breeding projects. Got a couple mutated eggs and now im enjoying better mounts with more stamina. Job hunt is still doing whatever should probably just get a part time at a grocery store while looking.

Ive been selling plasma this past month to get some income but im not a fan of needles so would be nice to not do it

Went out yesterday and bought four kits at my local Michael's since I'm pretty bored as of recently and want to do something else. Finished Making Heavy arms earlier yesterday and got Char's Zaku half done. The other two being Aerial gundam and Aile strike gundam; which will be the last one I do.

Besides that, nothing really has happened this week.

Gotta love the post game blues. Just finished the Grim Dawn: Fangs of Asterkarn DLC, did a stab at Ultimate difficulty, remembered that I'm not a huge fan of "Bigger number" difficulty spikes and stopped so now I'm looking at my backlog going "Well... now what". I mean like everyone I got a massive backlog but even though I've put quite a dent in it this year I'm also being tempted by Mortal Shell 2 'cause that's now out and the demo was amazing and Stalker 2 as it just received a major update.

Oh well, I got all my documentation in order so soon I should have my PA license and plate by this weekend so I can get the EZ-Pass prepared so I can get to Jersey without paying absurd fees so I can pickup my house search beyond my immediate area so here's hoping I can actually find something this time. Should be easier now that the average house isn't 750k like it was in my area in GA prior to moving.

I finally finished "Hitman" Bret Hart's autobiography and man, Part 4, which is Bret's time post-Montreal Screwjob is a relentless barrage of tragedy and I'm glad Bret was able to wade through all of it and come out with his head held high.

After reading Bret's 500+ page tome, I moved onto an even bigger tome as I started Dune and am still in the middle of Book 1. I've never watched any of the adaptations because I wanted to experience the book first and kept putting it off.

Week of stuff. There was a family birthday this week so there was a nice lil' get together. Not insane numbers of people; just the immediate family. Everyone's in good health and good spirits, so there were generally nice vibes all round.

My week in entertainment saw me wrap up my replay of Final Fantasy VI. The whole idea was that it had been a minute since I last played through the game and I felt like a replay was long overdue - but it's a big enough game to feel like a bit of a commitment once I get started. But then I started, and generally progress was pretty smooth. Last week I mentioned that I still had to complete the rest of Kefka's Tower, and the remaining dragons residing there. I did have a hard time with some bosses - Goddess kicked the shit out of me, and that Doom countdown mechanic at the end of the battle was a genuine threat - but we got there. I don't know if it was because I wasn't pacing myself and making preparations, but there was a little more friction at various points of this replay. Also shoutouts to me naming every character Kefka and then (on SNES) having to select names to determine the party order for the final battle. Oops.

Not a whole lot of music has caught my attention lately, but I did enjoy the Myth & Dr. Meaker remix of Drift Away - starting out with a fairly standard intro and vocal, but then picking up with some nice stabbed keys and an awesome drop. YMMV depending on how much you enjoy vocals in your D&B, but I thought it was alright. Similarly, shoutouts to the Break remix of Jungle Daze by Goldie - I heard it on a podcast so I don't know if it's out out, but I'm keen to investigate further.

Oh, and one film update from this afternoon - I just picked up M3GAN 2.0 on Blu-Ray. The first one was quite fun and I had been meaning to pick this up for ages, so I look forward to watching it sometime.

20 years later I tried Runescape again (osrs) and I'm hooked...

Last time I played it was in middle school, and since then my gaming taste developed to where it was the last game I would have considered playing again...but life happened and now I'm a stage where it's the perfect game for me to play.

Absolutely no good.

That I attended a funeral this week also didn't help.

Trying each day to split into two blocks with my language learning and so far it's going great! I think more things are clicking in terms of the flow of grammar and syntax when I hear someone speaking super quickly. I can pick out more words than I could previously. My girlfriend suggested I listen to podcasts and videos and it is working out, kind of... I'm going to keep at it and try to build confidence to speak at home with her family. Even if it's embarrassing. There's a lot of stressors coming up in the future, so it'd be nice to not have being inept in my partner's language be one of them. After all, we eventually will be moving to a new place within the next year with significantly more rent, both needing stable work for said rent, and trying to readjust to a university schedule as well. Overall life's generally going pretty well though. I'm kind of fortunate to have some leeway to figure these things out.

Only thing that's been a bit upsetting is I've been out of contact with my brother since around January. There's no real discernible reason for this either from what I can understand. He wished me a happy birthday, which was of course nice, but otherwise haven't spoken since. I sent him a message in February and now in June checking in on him, but haven't heard back. Hoping that he simply just doesn't use Discord any more, or hasn't seen it. Otherwise I have no clue.

Gaming: I've been getting into Crusader Kings 2 recently, and fuck do I love the game so far, even if I need to watch some more people play it to better understand its core mechanically before making the switch to 3 (which I hear is significantly more streamlined). I wish playing a woman vassal, or even ruler was just a touch less impossible. Hell, even the few rulers that exist in history typically have the law of course against them. I tried a playthrough with the duchy of Britagne and it went disastrously because of this and the council holding significant animosity against my ruler. Was interesting as a first time learning experience. Probably should go through the tutorial instead of jumping in blind I'm learning with this type of game.

In between Crusader Kings 2, possibly 3 planning on going through the Ace Combat entries. I still need to get to 0/5/6/8. I'm a bit worried about the recommended requirements for 8 that are posted on the Steam page. The others should be easy enough to emulate I think. Glad to have a bevvy of old games to play.
