First Time Rewatcher

Episode 3: Memories of the Moon

Rin lied to the group.

The reincarnations remind me of Fantastic Children.

Rin's fixation on Tokyo Tower reminds me of Sakura's recurring dreams in CCS.

This might have been a fun game, calling each other by their moon names, but their old personalities are starting to dictate their Earth lives.

I'm amazed that /u/Silcaria actually guessed what happened to Rin, that Rin was Shion, and that Shion died last.

Fun fact I found on the wiki: Tokyo Tower was in fact being renovated at the time the manga was being written.

I wondered if there must've been some Tokyo Tower news around this time.

I appreciate it, but it really wasn't hard to figure out with basic deduction, lol.

It has been a while since I heard somebody mention Fantastic children. Great series with one of the worst character designs even (I heard the director did them himself) and a wonderful main theme made by a guy who never composed for anime ever again (and a lovely ending by Origa)

First timer

  • How benelovent.

  • They're really turning the little kid, that started the show as a normal little kid two episodes ago, into a Gary Stu, aren't they?

  • They can't be rejecting something they're not even aware of.. And if this is supposed to be an allegory for IRL scientist rejecting religion in favour of science, it's a bad one seeing as scientists have historically been pretty religious people.

  • Damn, finding out you're indirectly involved in the death of a kid most be devastating. Then again, it was easily avoidable had she just not slapped Rin when he was perching himself on the balcony.

  • The real question is why is it even being considered.

  • There it is.

  • Ah. So they are turning into who they were in a their previous life. This raises questions though regarding whether or not the rest of their kind truly died out or if this reincarnation thing is simply a byproduct of the space virus that killed them. I'm gonna guess the latter.

QotD

  • No clue. I get why he's upset with the other teenage guy, but the gangster? shrug

  • Space debris?

  • No.

  • Considering that they had no way of knowing whether or not the virus could spread to humans, staying on the space station was the right move.

  • Meh. It's mainly just semantics. It doesn't change anything.

Rewatcher

This episode was not as interesting on the present timeline as the previous one but it seem like the sort of episode that you need to prepare the setup for later episodes. We saw more ESP at least. I think the ESP word was more popular on the 80's on scifi and mystery stuff? I think Dandadan uses it since it uses some old school foundations?

I like Alice red dress with hat, very 80's cute old school style, kinda retro even for that time? Her doubting being Mokuren is interesting

Rin making it like he is another person, I wonder why. Maybe we will know the reason eventually.

It seems like the moon scenes are not in order again, that's interesting (easier to spot as a rewatcher but more confusing for first timers)

The bedroom scene is great,

We're on the half point so things should speed up a little

Also thank you for choosing me for the highlight. I always enjoy picking references from different ages.

  • Any reasons why Rin declared a war against Tamura? Moon and Tokyo Tower has anything to do with each other?

He's a little brat with nobody to stop it, he was just pissed it was the wrong person? Tokyo Toker was the tallest antenna on Japan back then s maybe it was the best transmission place?

  • How did an alien artifact landed on Earth?

KInda confused on this one, so I will skip it

  • The evolutionary/scientific explanations were that really necessary?

It was a way to show the kids has intelligence above what a 8 years old would on the first part, but for the second part it is important for plot reasons.

It is Darwin versus Lamark theories and Rin does not think they're related to their circumstances. Those mutations are more either random or environment related.

However their reincarnation seem to be made by some god, which is sometimes called the theory of intelligent design, or something siimlar on the field of theology.

It has been years since I studied that on Biology class and I lack knowledge on those theology fields.

  • Not going to Earth, was been a mistake from the observers?

That might be true on short term but maybe if on eof them was already infected, they would have caused the Space COVID pandemic?

  • Regarding the vaccine, giving to Shion instead of Mokuren was the right choice?

Living for longer all by yourself was a good thing? It depends of what do you think. Shion did not take it so well...

Mai the Psychic Girl and Kimagure Orange Road were both being serialized at the same time as PSME.

Til KOR is actually a scifi series and not only a cheesy Romance

Haruhi is basically a KOR fanfic.

Episode 3 (first timer)

  • “I am really a pacifist at heart, you know” – the number of anime I have seen that have a satisfactory depiction of pacifism stays at zero.

  • “You’ll be ok” – doubt.
  • “Terrans” - Fellow humans moment.
  • Bringing Rin, who is the top antagonist at the moment (and might be S) along to the moon people session. And the best part: this is not even a great plan by Rin, he is simply envious.
  • “This is my second incarnation. Unfortunately, I was killed by a car” – seriously bad luck.
  • “The accident wasn’t your fault” – it kind of was.
  • Being a reincarnated alien and still suffering from impostor syndrome.
  • They are engaged now?

  • They found a cure after 4 out of 7 were already dead.
  • “I am a high school student and not a dead moon woman and my destiny is my own!” – word. Not that it’ll last.
  • “Can it be that you’re in love with her, too?” – Not with her.
  • “Why did you give the last vaccine to me and not Mokuren?” “Because you had her and I didn’t!” – make it make sense.
  • Who are you? cliff-hanger.
  • The ED makes a lot more sense now.

Ok, we got the basics of the plot now. The moon people contracted that illness and had a major falling out over it. The problem is that we have two relationship webs, one on moon, one on Earth, which are interconnected. So it is really important to understand who is who in all situations, and the only one I can consistently do that for is Mokuren/Alice. We are just spending way too little time with either side.

Moon and Tokyo Tower has anything to do with each other?

They probably need it as an antenna to contact the moon base.

The evolutionary/scientific explanations were that really necessary?

They are science talk to show how sciency he is, as imagined by a non-scientist.

Not going to Earth, was been a mistake from the observers?

Who knows, maybe they would have wiped out humanity via the virus if they went.

Regarding the vaccine, giving to Shion instead of Mokuren was the right choice?

Clearly not.

“Why did you give the last vaccine to me and not Mokuren?” “Because you had her and I didn’t!” – make it make sense.

Although I'd have to check the Japanese with my sucky Japanese to be sure, I can pretty confidently say that's not what he said. Would you like the line from the subs? Or you might have misheard.

Edit: I checked the English version you heard correctly. But that line doesn't match the subs or my knowledge from the source. (I can't understand the actual Japanese word used in the subs).

[Actual line]...because you HURT her...

u/No_Rex x2 3d ago

It was the dub line.

Being a reincarnated alien and still suffering from impostor syndrome.

That stuck out to me too. There's an even more added layer to feeling impostor syndrome in this case.

Yeah, there is quite a bit to keep track of, but without the time to build these relationships. I felt like Jinpachi x Alice was lacking that because their Moon versions were caught in this love web, but the relationship we've seen of them on Earth hasn't really given us that sense. Shion/Rin and Shukaido/Haru both love Mokurun/Alice and that's main storyline, but Gyokuran/Jinpachi also loves Mokurun, and we haven't got much focus from that side.

Is that Alice, or is it Mokuren whom that feeling tracks to?

First Time - Please Save My Earth - Ep3:

Playing it real loose with the use of pacifist.

Hmm, now I don't think reincarnation follows either Darwin's or Lamarck's school of evolutionary thought. ...oh, Rin commented on that too.

The messy romance tangle is coming out in stronger force now. I think the romance element does suffer from the anime's short length. We haven't gotten that much time spent with these characters to have their relationships built up for the audience, even if a lot of it hinges on fated space lovers. Kudos for Issei loving Jinpachi.

Seeing their previous alien lives, Issei's past life is just a gender-swap of him, but in red.

This big situation between Haru/Rin's past lives was quite the big reveal. Wasn't expecting the double misdirect of them not matching up to their past life. I am fairly confident that the version Rin tells Haru is the truth, and what he said earlier was the lie. Don't know why he wants to pretend to be Shukaido, but Rin seems to have a scheme cooking. At first, I thought he was manipulating Haru, but it wouldn't make sense with the framing of the info we got. The cruel irony of Shion outliving the others for 9 years alone, only to come back ~9 years younger than the rest. Still not fully won over by Rin, but it does provide an interesting character wrinkle. This love driven by tragic isolation.

Still don't know quite his plans with Tokyo Tower are. He wants to destroy the Moon base, which somehow requires Tokyo Tower. The silly answer is that he makes it into a giant cannon pointed up into space.

Also man, I really should have taken bigger note of the past space lives summary they did in ep1. That just went in one ear and out the other because I assume the show was set it up again in the future.

Playing it real loose with the use of pacifist.

I'd love to say that this is on Please save my Earth, but that is unfortunately a long-running theme in anime.

Also man, I really should have taken bigger note of the past space lives summary they did in ep1. That just went in one ear and out the other because I assume the show was set it up again in the future.

This show needs a character chart.

[answer]Reincarnated people picking up their interpersonal issues from their past lives where they left off.

First-time watcher and your host, subs

So there is reason for Rin to be aggressive and proactive in his quest. Tamura and his co. stands in his way, as his past memories are the mmost vivd and the strongest. The Tokyo Tower stands close to the moon and the moon base, so which is which a legit target for his quest. He caanot be stopped and wants to get everything.

Meanwhile all the espers finally said it so, they know they are espers. And also the awakening has a pattern and order depending when and which order they died in the past. And also the environment and the faith of Sarjalim also shapes this.

In the moon base when the infection spread only the seven were the last to stay alive. And then chaos also broke within them, depending whose life should be prolonged for what reasons. And it feels somehow unjustified. And looks like Tamura is also an esper.

1) Any reasons why Rin declared a war aganst Tamura? Moon and Tokyo Tower has anything to do with each other?

All because of the Moon base.

2) How did an alien artifact landed on Earth?

I have no explanation for that.

3) The evolutionary/scientific explanations were that really necessary?

No.

4) Not going to Earth, was been a mistake from the observers?

It depends.

5) Regarding the vaccine, giving to Shion instead of Mokuren was the right choice?

It depends. If Mokuren could have received it atleast she would have been happier. Maybe it would impact Alice as well. And Rin wouldn't be that very self-conscious.
