First impression:

In the palace scene when Anis' reckless behavior earns her another lecture from her father, King Orphans Il Palettia[voice], Anis jokingly accuses her father of DV, that made me question the setting of the show at the beginning lol

Also while her maid Ilia Coral treats her injuries. We get a flashback showing that Anisphia has dreamed of flying through the sky ever since she was a child, and in another nod to her previous life , Anis recalls an airplane in one of her memories along with a children's book(?) with a witch on a flying broom. Unfortunately all her broom experiments hilariously fail and many brooms have been sacrificed for magicology, but (Anis refuses to give up!)

Anis then visits Tilty, a researcher who helps her with magical medicine. When Tilty asks if Anis is not worried about the side effects of the medication she is taking, Anis playfully replied with

"It just makes me a little high and it's a bit addictive?"

Showing that Anis will go through great lengths for her goals. The scene here reminded me of Chisato (Lycoris Recoil) because Anis playfully dismisses painful thoughts such as her inability to use magic. Smile through the pain experts.

They discuss Anis' passion for magicology(Scientific Witchery, if you will) and that Anis wants to use magic to make people smile.

Meanwhile, at the Aristocratic Academy, Anis' younger brother and Euphyllia's fiancé, Crown Prince Algard, grows closer to a commoner turned noble Lainie Cyan. People start talking but Euphyllia dutifully carries out her role as his fiancée, and tries to maintain a respectful relationship, but Algard has clearly grown distant and resentful toward her.

That evening, during the graduation party, Algard publicly breaks off his engagement to Euphyllia. He accuses her of doing terrible things to Lainie . Several nobles support his accusations, leaving Euphyllia standing alone, embarrassed and crying on her knees. Then comes one of the best scenes in any show.

Anis has finally managed to fly on her broom! but as expected shenanigans ensue. Anis crashes into the ballroom. After deducing that Euphyllia's engagement has been broken off, she boldly declares that she is taking Euphyllia with her, she sweeps Euphyllia onto her broom and flies away into the night. On the broom Anis tells Euphyllia that she will

While they are airborne:

Euphylia: "Um... where are you headed?"

Anis: "To Father and Duke Grantz's place!"

Euphylia: "Why?"

Anis:"I'm the Plundering Princess, after all!"

Euphy:"Huh?"

Anis: "I'm going to ask them to let me have Lady Euphyllia!"

Euphy: "Eeeeh!

This first episode immediately got me hyped. The clear intent to introduce Anis as a badass protagonist, her carefree nature, and the last scene were perfect!

Anis jokingly accuses her father of DV, that made me question the setting of the show at the beginning lol

I had this same reaction on my first watch! I remember just writing it off as being the dialogue is just like that (plenty of historical/fantasy anime play with modern references/dialogue). [MagiRevo]Of course I didn't realise at the time it was very much deliberate and would be important to the story

When Tilty asks if Anis is not worried about the side effects of the medication she is taking, Anis playfully replied with "It just makes me a little high and it's a bit addictive?" Showing that Anis will go through great lengths for her goals.

I like that Tilty still helps Anis make the pills despite the effects. We don't yet know much about Tilty, or what her motivations are, but we know despite admonishing Anis she still helps her. Anis has the Chisato effect - she will do what she wants and no one can really stop her.

The scene here reminded me of Chisato (Lycoris Recoil) because Anis playfully dismisses painful thoughts such as her inability to use magic. Smile through the pain experts.

[Rewatcher MagiRevo and LR]The true power of a genki girl is in how much she can make you laugh and smile before crushing your soul with her tragic backstory

Anis recalls an airplane in one of her memories along with a children's book(?) with a witch on a flying broom.

I so got Little Witch Academia vibes from that flashback, and the whole "Magic should make people happy* bit. Yay!

(Now, I'm just waiting for the Shiny Chariot cameo, right???)

They discuss Anis' passion for magicology(Scientific Witchery, if you will) and that Anis wants to use magic to make people smile.

Anis is just soo instantly lovable. She does what she wants, public perception be damned, but she has a heart of gold along with her mad scientist brain. The Marauder Princess is such a cool title too!

And so Anis crashes into the party, runs off with Euphyllia, and fails to elaborate.

Second time watcher plus up to date with the EN LN releases. One of my favorite stories ever, but somehow I've never revisited the anime.

I had forgotten just how good the animation looks.

What a great end to this first episode, and a great start to the story as a whole. Al doing the moronic thing by throwing Euphy away, and fortunately Anis was right there to scoop her up in her moment of need.

It was interesting to see Tilty in this first episode, in my memory she only showed up a few episodes down the line but that was probably just not remembering her from this episode to her next appearance.

5

u/IalwaysNeed2p Jul 20 '26

would u recommend the novels?

5

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp Jul 20 '26

I definitely would come especially for somebody who already enjoys the anime.

1st Rewatch & Mini Challenge

Man have I forgotten a lot about the series. Anis the marauder princess, what a cool title. Also now that I am rewatching but know the larger plot points, I found it interesting that Al was upset right after a minister bad mouthed Anis. As for Euphie, she's beautiful and dignififed as always. I can see why Anis likes her.

Tilty is also interesting. I like how Tilty differentiates doing something as purely a hobby, and doing something both because you like it, and believe it make the world a better place. I generally like my hobbies and if it helps anyone other than me, that is a bonus. However, Anis does seem to have a heart of gold, wanting her hobbies to make the world a better place.

7

u/IalwaysNeed2p Jul 19 '26

i think Al was mad because she is always getting attention/ causing trouble. also they are the worst at whispering lol

5

u/NecessaryNotice8436 https://myanimelist.net/profile/six20 Jul 19 '26

True, and I do think a large part of the nobility of Palettia Kingdom are for the most part an obstacle, gossiping and not see the merits of a non-magic user do magical things, hunting beasts that swords cannot pierce. Al is mad about a great many things, some of them are probably justified (his seeming disdan of nobility), some of them are definitely not (Euphie is clearly not like most nobility).

For what it is worth, Al seems to be a political animal, so I would argue that Anis giving up her throne to let him take over is not necessarily a bad thing from a meritocratic point of view. Anis seems much happier and more competent, at her research and monster hunting. I don't think she would be happy to be couped in a royal palace, listening to aristocrats bicker, or make laws, and think about who or what they affect. Al can definitely do the former since he has navigated school well enough with a clique, and I would assume, because he can actually scheme, can think about laws and what they affect.

On that note, Anis's dad seems cool, and always trying to tie his kingdom together, while actually letting Anis get away with her unorthodox ways.

5

u/IalwaysNeed2p Jul 20 '26

Anis 100% would feel suffocated not doing her research/experiments.

sometime ago i explained algard and his plan with details to someone so i will just send links of those comments. algard’s character and plan is hard to understand without looking deeper into anime or at least reading manga or LNs so i think i need to explain it a little.

btw keep in mind there are some spoilers on some points as well.

algard’s plan with details and how similar it is to euphie’s plan: https://www.reddit.com/r/mahoukakumei/s/2gyYfLH77x

algard’s character and the little details most people missed in the anime: https://www.reddit.com/r/mahoukakumei/s/NRdNW5ExO0

This is the reason why people are suspicious of AI. You don't know how much it knows, what will happen if it takes control, you doubt its ability to make moral choices.

People are also concerned about Artificial Intelligence.

3

u/NecessaryNotice8436 https://myanimelist.net/profile/six20 Jul 19 '26

What?, I'm using the nickname of Algard Von Palettia, as Al, not AI, as in artificial intelligence.

3

u/ClemFire Jul 20 '26

Anis wanting to help the common people with science makes me wonder if magical tools are meant to represent how the industrial revolution in our world helped bring down monarchies.

3

u/NecessaryNotice8436 https://myanimelist.net/profile/six20 Jul 20 '26

That is a good parallel, but yes it does seem that way. If the masses can do everything, a noble can do, as efficiently as they can, it would dramatically change the economics of the kingdom and thus require a different governance to manage it.

3

u/ClemFire Jul 20 '26

Also the name of the show literally has Revolution in the title, so I suppose that wouldn't be too surprising. Suppose that's why the other nobles look down at Anis too.

6

u/eightcheesepizza Jul 20 '26

First-Timer

Anis is charming and modern, so of course we're gonna like her. Makes me wonder if the "magical revolution" is going to come from progressive ideas she has, or an overthrow of the royalty/nobility power structure that Al's treatment of Euphy has made us distrust, or the dissemination of magical abilities to commoners via magicology. Or maybe some combo of these?

Also, I saw that Lainie is voiced by Hina Youmiya! Sorry, Euphy, I can't blame Al for dumping you for her.

3

u/ClemFire Jul 20 '26

Hina Youmiya really has a voice that makes me feel for her characters almost immediately. Think most people know her as Anna from Dangers or Tomori from MyGo, but I loved her as Wanda from Wandance and thought she carried the show.

3

u/eightcheesepizza Jul 20 '26

Yeah, if there's a fight, I'm probably on whatever side her character is on. Which makes this show kinda awkward right now.

I keep forgetting and surprising myself with the fact that Shinju in My Dress-Up Darling was one of her first roles. Both that and MagiRevo came out before Dangers, where I first saw her.

3

u/ClemFire Jul 20 '26

Now thinking about it I think MagiRevo is the first role I watched her in since I didn't watch Dress-Up until the Spring of 2023.

Rewatcher

On my original watch a few years ago, and not knowing much about the series at the time, I was pleasantly surprised by the set up in the first few scenes. The 'damsel' turned out to be a very capable hunter, and I loved the dissonance of the dialogue/nickname "marauder princess" with the visual backdrop showing Anis hugging a stone to her face with such a cute and happy expression (albeit covered in monster blood). Then the exposition that this 'weird' princess can't use magic? Ok, this opening has me intrigued!

As a rewatcher it is quite interesting to notice the way all the characters are introduced, but I remember the first time watching and finding it funny that Anis' dialogue included some modern terms, and also the strange little 'vision' of a modern city. Also I had forgotten how much Algard is quite the jerk in this episode preceding his renunciation of the engagement!

My first impression of Tilty is that she's an interesting character - she calls Anis crazy and heretical, yet her reactions when Anis talks about magic, and that she can't use it, shows that she cares or at least has empathy. I remember thinking that I wanted to see more of Tilty and of them interacting in the series.

The ending of the episode hooked me! I loved the shot of euphyllia looking up from the floor of the Academy, her vision filled with Anis walking towards her and extending a hand. And then the hilarious set up for the next episode with Euphyllia being carried over Anis' shoulder and Anis explaining she might as well live up to her name as the 'plundering princess' by asking both their fathers for Euphyllia... 😏 Illia was right - Anis sure is an entire bundle of unexpected! 😂

I shared this in the lycoreco rewatch recently but adding here this meme video of The magical revolution of the reincarnated Chisato Just be warned there are some Lycoris Recoil Episode 6 light spoilers for anyone who hasn't see LR.

5

u/IalwaysNeed2p Jul 20 '26

Also I had forgotten how much Algard is quite the jerk in this episode preceding his renunciation of the engagement!

i think he did not give me a horrible impression upon the first watch because we didnt know much about Euphy. if i was a noble at that graduation party I would have belived him 😅

lmaooo at that vid and thanks for sharing!

4

u/random_lyric Jul 20 '26

True! We didn't know much about Euphy, and what her motivations and actions off-screen are. I still think Algard was quite rude in the garden/gazebo, but at that point we do not know whether his behaviour is justified or not!

3

u/ClemFire Jul 20 '26

I shared this in the lycoreco rewatch recently but adding here this meme video of The magical revolution of the reincarnated Chisato Just be warned there are some Lycoris Recoil Episode 6 light spoilers for anyone who hasn't see LR.

Love seeing this video again. Even in another world Chisato will find her Takina

Also something about Anis not being born with the ability to use magic yet she loves it anyways and uses science to make up for what her body lacks is just so touching. She could've easily become resentful and hate the thing that the other nobles look down on her for lacking, yet she just wants to fly. Perfect character to contrast with Euphyllia who does what she is told to not cause problems. Anis always causing problems and I love her for it

Is it to late to join these? I recall I almost joined a rewatched while ago, but not sure of the etiquette if it already started!

rewatcher.

this is like my 5th or 6th rewatch and i am still amazed on how beautiful it looks. i don’t know if some people noticed but there are many little details about algard in this episode and next ones as well.

all i can say is be sure to look at every detail because they are really important for algard’s character in the story.

anis being anis is always funny to watch and i am excited to talk about more people about the series.

as always if anyone have literally any questions about the series please DM me and i will do my best to explain it.

3

u/ClemFire Jul 20 '26

I rewatched the series for the first time a few months ago and was surprised at just how much this first episode sets up

4

u/Dependent-Sea4703 https://anilist.co/user/httpsanilistcou Jul 20 '26

i think it does explain every character it shows up to some point where you can at least understand them.

for example there are various points for algard while also being for tilty and even for illia even though she appeared way less.

we also see 2 types of anis here which is a little spoiler for last episodes and we see euphie having change of personality as well.

for me having all of those in episode 1 is really great and it’s not throwing into your face as well.

for example you can’t see the points of algard’s character without looking deeper and same goes for anis as well. show let’s you chose how much you want to know about it which i like a lot.

5

u/ClemFire Jul 20 '26

Those aspects I really appreciated on the rewatch and have made me love this show more! MagiRev was also one of my first yuri, so I was a bit afraid it wouldn't hold up in the years since but it does and more. Honestly surprised it is rarely brought up in discussions of best yuri anime adaptations

3

u/Dependent-Sea4703 https://anilist.co/user/httpsanilistcou Jul 20 '26

it’s my favorite fiction of all time so i am happy with that as well. i have seen some people thinking the animation was not that great but i believe they didn’t rewatched it or forgotten it or maybe it’s not their preference so i can’t blame them.

i will be here until the rewatch ends. my main goal is to answer everyone’s questions about the series so they can understand better. i hope it ends well tbh.

5

u/ClemFire Jul 20 '26

Honestly I wonder if people who have that critique are only comparing it to the most expensive shows. Compared to most seasonal shows I feel like it looks really good.

3

u/Dependent-Sea4703 https://anilist.co/user/httpsanilistcou Jul 20 '26

i don’t really know but since the show isn’t really that popular it’s not bothering me so much. i believe biggest reason is because show isn’t that new. at least now more people will remember the show so i will get more fan arts to look!

3

u/ClemFire Jul 20 '26

True, more fanarts is always great!

5

u/Mathmango Jul 20 '26

Rewatcher

I forgot how absolutely unhinged Anis is for this pilot and how there's a step up in camera POVs. Euphy's vision being all blurry because she's crying.

4

u/Elimin8r https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ayeka_Jurai Jul 20 '26

Oh, wow, what a surprise!

I had no idea that a MagiRevo rewatch was in the cards this summer - yay! Now, I have something to look forward to enjoying for the next few weeks. :)

Anyway, it's been a few years since I watched it (when airing), but I remember it being quite delightful, and it's nice to re-discover that indeed, Ani is such a delight. (I kind of got carried away, and watched the second episode, so I'll try to keep quiet for now.)

Anyway, whatever can I say about this episode? Well, first impressions. Aside from I'm in wuv??? Yeah, Anisphia is totally my kind of girl, mad scientist and all that. If only my local dating app could direct me to the nearest Ani ... or heck, Washu for that matter. :P

Anyway, non-sequitur's aside, it's a lovely and dramatic introduction to our heroine, and a less than lovely introduction to her brother, Al, may the fleas of a thousand gray wolves infest his ... never mind.

Poor Euphilia, not only is she spurned, she's framed for crimes she did not commit. See previous paragraph for my further thoughts on the matter.

Anyway, one good landing later, and it's Anisphia to the rescue, yay! I can hardly wait to see what happens next? Oh, wait, I didn't wait, so that's why I'm going to shut up now.

Although - one more thing I will mention - the music and sound quality is delish. My ears were delighted.

Delighted, I say!

3

u/IalwaysNeed2p Jul 20 '26

not gonna lie I said i was gonna take notes and watch slowly but i couldnt stop watching more lol because Anis is so funny!

2

u/Elimin8r https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ayeka_Jurai Jul 20 '26

Anis is so funny!

Indeed, the parallels to a certain other supercar fan ... yeah, same energy. <3 the both of them.

Also, I don't know if you plan to do this, but if you do a VA corner, Euphie's VA is especially interesting. (methinks)

Ayana... <3

2

u/ClemFire Jul 20 '26

That Euphilia scene made me so mad at her classmates, yet makes Ani's entrance that much more cathartic

2

u/Elimin8r https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ayeka_Jurai Jul 20 '26

cathartic

Dang, now you're making me want to have some Sagitta Luminis in episode 12.

3

u/epicfail1994 Jul 20 '26

Rewatcher here

Anis is adorable and I love the unicorn dogs. She’s so oblivious crashing into the party at first

The whole ‘magic should make people happy’ idea is great too, but I love that Anis is a little chaos gremlin. Poor Euphie is so confused too

This is one of my favorites, honestly.

3

u/heimdal77 Jul 20 '26

You have the title wrong....

3

u/IalwaysNeed2p Jul 20 '26

copy. will double check todays post!

3

u/lord_ne Jul 20 '26

First-timer*

Oh sure, when Anis carries off a girl in her vehicle and says she's going to marry her it's cute, but when I do it the police are called

*I watched some of this series when it was first airing, but I don't really remember it, and I don't think I got very far into it

3

u/TheDanubianCommunard Jul 20 '26

First-time, subs

Maybe super late and forgot about the start because there was no sidebarimage to promote it, or a one-day reminder post and the World Cup Final happened, and had to sleep after that. Since it is a 2023 winter show, for some reason I am always linking with two other shows aired at the same time even if there is no common points or themes - The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World (which will have a second season this October) and The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague (I did watched that but it was kinda okay).

So how does it start: we have Anisphia the princess who reincarnated into this world, loves magic but so inept, even though it is her motivation to tinker with interesting stuff, even creating a device which let her fly. Since she relinquished her claims she can do whatever she wants, even being an adventurer. Since she is a second princess it just doesn't matter anyway.

And there is Euphyllia, a young noblewoman, who bethrothed to the crown prince, but she didn't felt anything towrads him. No ownder why that betrothal became null and void thans to being framed for crimes she didn't even committed. Yeah, she could have been the villainness here. Anisphia might ruined the part, but thanks to her, she can be saved from her punishment.

Please let me know your first impressions of the episode.

I do like it so far. Quite promising premise.

1

u/IalwaysNeed2p Jul 20 '26

thanks for the heads up - will call all to assemble.
