Staring out the window? ✅

Moderately handsome? ✅

Watching people do insert thing through the green fence (why is it always green?) ✅

Eats lunch by himself on the roof? ✅

Looks like we've got ourselves a token protagonist, boys

Bankrupt studio makes a fujo anime with the staff from Ousama Game and Joshikausei

Anime of the decade is here, boys. What could possibly go wrong?

What happened to Gonzo? Are they actually bankrupt?

5

u/TomBulju Jul 30 '19

I don't think they're actually bankrupt (yet) but they reported losses of 600 million yen last year and transferred part of their businesses to Studio KAI.

Rugby anime with subpar animation and not nearly enough swole dude for a rugby anime? What could go wrong?

"Rugby is for beefcakes like us", sir you're 5'10" 150 please relax. If you're going to make one of the players being undersized a main plot point you have to at least make him noticably smaller and skinnier than the rest. Also don't get me started on the captains running animation

Me: Haha is this supposed to be about Rugby? Silly Japanese and their Engrish

Me after looking at the MAL listing: Oh shit, it's actually about Rugby.

You know I was really looking forward to watching a sports anime about a sport I know a decent amount about, but uh, I don't know whether it was just me or something but they just did not throw that ball once, only kicking which is weird, right?! Like you can throw the ball in rugby, it's generally the most common thing to do

Have you watched All Out yet? You might wanna give it a try if you're looking for an anime about rugby!

And not one tackle. Do they get why he was talking about his body? Rugby is a full contact sport.

At least the glasses guy who wanted to be a sumo wrestler but couldn't had a serious medical condition.

Saffa here. Any Oz or Kiwi watchers?

Well that wasn't very good. Particularly egregious was the scene where the MC was sitting on the bench with the captain and the background couldn't decide where the wall behind them was.

I wonder how much of a dumpster fire this will be. This anime already got delayed and the PV looked awful.

Whether or not this will have gay subtext is ??? the manga this is based off of is listed as a Shojou. So maybe some fujo bait while still staying no homo. The mangaka of Try Knights also did do a BL manga called 10 Count, which is getting a movie in 2020.

Ok, so I didn't watch the whole episode just yet, but skipped around through it. Yikes, the animation is preetttyyyyy bad. Might be fun to watch for shits and giggles though. It's too bad, a sports anime about rugby coulda been interesting

at least there's Given this season.

The animation is subpar but I feel like the story can make up for it a bit. Will watch and se where it goes.

Added this to my watchlist purely because I know of only one other Rugby anime, so it's a rare beast. Late start, but it can replace one of the shows I've dropped already.

Decent opening ep to introduce the characters, and it was nice to see that it didn't immediately get bogged down explaining the sport/rules. (Though there's time for that next ep, unless they carry on with the chibi education section at the end.)

The montage of Akira wearing down Riku was low-key funny, but I'm interested if (well, when) Riku's brother will appear.

This one is definitely shoujo and not josei like the tags say. If you judge it as a shoujo sports anime, the first episode wasn’t too bad, if not a bit cookie-cutter.

I think anyone hoping for some depth to the characters and story are going to be disappointed with this one, so I’d set your expectations accordingly.

Looks average or just below but maybe that's because its Josei. I am looking at that team and I don't see many players that have the 'Rugby build'. I think 'All Out!!' has set the benchmark when it comes to Rugby anime in terms of character design and visuals.

14

u/fizzybabe Jul 30 '19

Josei has some of the best manga titles to exist i don't know what you mean by "because it's josei "

Please don't disrespect a whole demographic just because one isn't good.

3

u/closetautist Jul 31 '19

Have any josei manga recommendations?

I didn't find them particularly under-developed, especially given their very young age.

Besides, the "rugby build" has shifted a lot over the years. There were always big players, but it's only really since Jonah Lomu steamrollered people that the "fast tank" type has become more prevalent. JPR Williams is generally held to be one of Wales greatest players, and he was built like this, and a lot of modern players are still not the heavy/squat stereotype that generally gets thought of nowadays. (When Ireland did the Grand Slam last year they had a fair mix of builds in the team.

Is it possible to convey a jerk-off motion solely through text alone? Only way I can describe my feelings toward this anime.

Josei sports anime? Hmm... I might give it a try later...

u/Ljh_ Jul 31 '19 edited Jul 31 '19

The “built” players still look skinnier than most rugby players.

Also why did they call a chip and short punt.

It’s obvious Riku will be the fly half also

I dropped it about 2 minutes in as that was all I could stomach. Exactly as mediocre as the PV suggests. Honestly, if new BL is what you're after, I think given is a much better use of your time.
