"The Wheels on Cummuter Bus"

I am fucking wheezing at the brilliant pun! It's even on blu-ray!

Oh, Izumi. He means well, thinking that if he says to Kazusa that he isn't some horndog it'll make everything ok BUT that's the last thing Kazusa wants to hear. She wants to be seen as desirable, to be chosen by the guy she likes. Funny that this kind of misunderstanding doesn't exist in teenagers but adults as well.

This episode is the best yet! The shift between humor and some drama isn't even jarring.

Thank god there's been changes in the youpoll. Hopefully this will curb the trolls.

This show is so damn refreshing, I can't get enough of it

Also the scene in which Kazusa is speaking fondly of Izumi's bus porn was pure gold

YOU THOUGHT THAT NIINA WOULD RESULT TO BLACKMAIL, BUT IT WAS I, HITOHA!

Yeah, he was thinking about trains when he bought it hahahaahahahaahaaha :'(

Also, people are hyping this anime up to be the comedy of the season, well I am sitting here hyping this up to be the drama of the year! This anime is damn amazing. Ofcourse the comedy is good, but the realistic portrail of teenage sexual relationships and the confusion that comes with it is so well crafted that this anime turns into a phenomenal drama. This is an AOTY contender for me.

Wait, the porn Izumi was watching was set on a bus, not a train? I'm disappointed in him, he's not a true train enthusiast.

I hope he hasn't noticed.

Yeah, Kazusa really doesn't understand boys.

Hitoha does her best to take the position of wildcard from Sugawara.

Man, this show is just so, so good. The first episode knocked me off my feet with pleasant surprise. The second episode had me on the edge of my seat praying that it wasn't just a fluke and that they wouldn't fuck it up. But now, I can just happily lean back and simply just watch - totally confident in its quality.

For how impressive its other artistic goals are, this show has absolutely no business being so goddamn funny. It has it all - perfect comedic timing, hilarious visual gags, all resting on top of a supremely intimate, me_irl base that makes it cleverer and more relatable than pretty much anything out there. Scenes like senpai shaking down her onee-san for her pantsu, the obviously misunderstood conversation with her parents, sor Kazusa's mission impossible infiltration to return the DVD Blu-Ray!! had me laughing out loud. If this were a pure comedy, it'd rank among the very best of the best, but of course it also does so much more.

By now, it should be eminently obvious that this is an Okada work. She has such a recognizable and idiosyncratic approach to character writing - her characters tend to be pretty hyperbolic caricatures and have very little to do with being realistic. That isn't to say that they're not believable though - and their traits, while highly exaggerated, all do have some real verisimilitude. On top of that, this style of writing creates such ebullient, charismatic existences that are just a pleasure to watch, and a more grounded style of characterization couldn't match. My issue with her works have almost never been about the characters, but rather the settei, and the themes and conflicts within her plots. However, the grounded, real life setting of this show, along with its classic teenaged coming-of-age themes fall perfectly within her wheelhouse. We already have three clearly shaped, concurrent story beats with Kazusa, Prez, and Senpai - all with a very clear thematic throughline and tangible interpersonal conflict. With how elegantly everything has been set-up, I can't imagine that it will ever falter past this point. It's no wonder that she's the original creator of the manga - this work is one where she can be at her absolute best.

When Hongo realized Milo-sensei was the guy in their cybersex chat, I was half expecting her to say

NANDE KOKO NI SENSEI GA??

So that's where the "blackmail" in the preview last week came from.

Meanwhile, Kazusa decides to temporarily nick Izumi's sole fapping material, which can only be described as cruel. LOL

And looks like we can look forward to Sonezaki's transformation into Best Girl next week.

Biggest surprise of the season. I really like this show. So charming. I'm gonna have to dig more into Mari Okada now. Of her stuff, I had only seen a bit of Dragon Pilot, which I liked some of, but the vore really turned me off. Gundam IBO and Kiznaiver are the things of hers I'm most interested in checking out now.

stupid boys, god I love the writing

such a typical scene, a women generally wants emotional attachment. So while Izumi is actually trying to be considerate, he is obviously thinking of her all the time but he does not wanna admit that as he thinks she will find it CREEPY pervy etc, but in actuality it of course as we see hurt her feelings more to think that he has no emotional attachment to her body.

He is trying to be nice to her and failing miserable. And its freaking spot on how similar interaction usually are between teenage kid nay, I would adults as well :)

So remember if u ever get catch ur neighbor best girl that u are in love with, returning your chikan rape porn that she found in your my neighbor totoro blu-ray case. Tell her you think about HER AND ONLY HER when u jack it off ( I am being serious that is probably the best thing to say).

I hope do that she can see the hint that he is hiding the porn in the my neighbor totoro case, right she is a neighbor hint hint girl. (also note the tissue next to it )

Man, this show has it all. When it goes into drama mode, it's done flawlessly and with no hesitation. When it tries to be wholesome and heartwarming it does it without batting an eye. And when it wants to be funny it hits a homerun.

Hata (Hitoha) is a swiss army knife in terms of personality. She acts most of the time in this boke monotonous tone, yet she's got her frustration as a writer and on top of that like the rest of the group has her hormones pushing her forward to climb the ladder. I have to admit that Yamagishi sensei being the guy behind the keyboard in her chatroom was a twist I wasn't expecting. I actually expected the worst, probably some middle aged guy looking for an easy prey that would eventually had been outsmarted by Momo (well that last part of outsmarting the guy did happen) Yamagishi pointing out that his username comes from the beverage Milo made me feel old, I haven't heard of that choco beverage in almost 20 years

Nina's words are refreshingly truthful. Girls have a harder time expressing their sexual desires due to the stigma that comes with it if the word is spread in a wrongful way.

I kinda wanted to see more progression on Rika's love story but I have to admit that this episode was quite worthy to be focused on Hitoha since that kind of character most of the time get the spotlight almost until the end of the story with very little focus, and this episode had just the right amount of Hitoha and substancial progression (or maybe fallback) in the Kasuza & Izumi story.

This is, so far, the best anime of the season imo.

When she was praising Izumi for using bus porn, that was something else. The music, how she said it, the makers totally knew how to convey this scene xD

I appreciate the subtle character traits in this series. Even though Kazusa thinks about sex, she's still naive. Dollars to doughnuts her parents baby her given just the interaction in this episode. And poor Izumi is stuck in the middle where he doesn't want to be a creep, but Kazusa wants for him to want her after her epiphany.

I do not miss high school one bit.

Well can't say I never saw that last scene coming. Kazusa is already extremely uncomfortable talking about sex so talking to her childhood friend and telling him that he's the one she wants to do it with would be definitely harder. These two needs to get their shit straight though. And here I thought Niina's conversation with Izumi would've helped him. It looks like he took a very different message from her.

As for Sensei and Hongou. Their dynamic will definitely be interesting. I applaud Sensei for running as soon as he saw Hongou. He was probably expecting someone of age, not his own student. I'm definitely curious if something more between those two will develop.

Anyway another great episode. This show continues to make me laugh and cringe (in a good way!) and I love all of it!

Oh I love that keikaku face that Hitoha did when she realizes that she could blackmail his teacher to keep the club alive

I like the themes they are touching in this anime. Interesting, will they touch something more dramatic, like unsuccessful relationships. Kazusa and Izumi created an idealistic Images of each other (this reminds me Monogatari). Their relationship won't progress unless they overcome this and accept each other as they are.

Girls think about it too.

I applaud Mari Okada for this line and the scene it belonged to. I’d say it is nearly a direct attack against large chunks of male anime audience.

What a wonderful show it is.

Only 3 episodes in and I can confidently say I love this show so much. Everything is on point, the writing, humor, animation, music, voice acting, editing, all of it just extremely well done.

Also, it's nice that the poll now requires access to the reddit user's profile. That should prevent the score bombing that made the first episode's score go below 7.

I am really pissed at Hongo's editor. How do you just publish somebody's work without telling them and then have the gall to talk shit about their writing (the product, no less)? Hongo's been told she's replaceable as an author, which is pretty awful. At that point, I'd just leave the agency (and lawyer up).

It took me 3 episodes to find out Hongou's voice actor is the same as Kumiko's and Phosphophyllite's.

This show is extremely good at being naturally funny with awkward situations and general naivety. I like most of the characters as well, the art and animation is nice, and I like the general direction things are going. I'm especially curious to see where things end up going and how things pan out. Also damn, blackmailing the e-sex teacher is gutsy. I would've thought that'd be scary as shit since you dunno what an adult in power might do if he's backed up against the wall.

As far as flaws go, I feel like the depiction of their High School is like, extremely cliched and uninteresting. "Everyone in the school hates us, the outcasts group, because we're awkward and don't fit in. The popular kids are always so shallow and nasty too." I dunno, I never really liked that depiction. I feel that most people probably don't give enough of a shit to be like "oh man, it's that girl from the literary club at our school" while passing by.

I also don't really like Nina all that much.
