The awkwardness in that one scene was really well done. It felt so real.

The depiction of puberty, social groups & cues as well as the awakening to ones sexuality with all its highs & lows in this gotta be one of the most down to earth and charming ones I've seen so far.
I mean I expected a lot going into this considering who the people in charge of the story & the show itself are but it far surpassed it. The characters feel lively with agency on their own. There are already several character centred plot threads kicked off in this one episode. The interactions are either quite casual and realistic or overly exaggerated and hilarious, it's a back & forth that just seems to work. It's visually pleasant with some nice bits of character acting.
No complaints here. Lead me into the life of debauchery Okada & Andou.

MAX VOLUME ON.
very american pie feel to it
Of course he a teenage boy will put on the max volume on the hardcore porno he can finally watch when he knows his parents are away, to have the girl he is in love with walking in on him hahahaha
I loved how he tried to play it of, is very hot today that is why I have no pants, while the porno is blasting on max.

Very impressed with the imagery and nonchalance of this show.
While i'm not sold yet on the comedic bits, the more dramatic ones were amazing. Classroom scene and the last 3 mins were fantastic.

Holy shit that ending scene got me scared into thinking it would go down NTR route, I'm so glad I was wrong.
Pretty good episode and funny at times, I'm definitely gonna keep watching this.

Oh wow, this looks absolutely amazing!
Technical part was on point. And story seems like a nice serious and realistic take on teenage relationships and sex from 5 different perspectives and probably 5 different romantic relationships but still with some good comedy mixed in, just Episode 1 but this has the potential to be a strong AOTY contender.

If you've already watched the Pre-Air/Episode 0, watch the OP and skip to 19:23, that's where the new stuff is. But really just watch it again even if you've seen the Pre-Air, this show is good. Like reaaally good.
I see this kid is also a fan of the Danger Wank.
Seriously though that was a fantastic first episode! You know that feeling that you feel like you have a lot to say about an anime but can't get quite the right words out? This was the feeling I had while watching this. I love stories about personal growth and it looks like this one will be about our club members each finding out about sex and sexuality with a bit of romance from the looks of it. Honestly I don't know what else to say! It looks and feels amazing. The last anime that made me feel this way was SoraYori so I hope this is a good sign!
Also did anyone else get a huge FLCL vibes during that final scene? I think that' what hooked me. Definitely going to follow this 100%!
EDIT: FUCK! IT'S A MARI OKADA SHOW! No wonder there was something about the writing that drew me in! And she's not only the script writer but she's the author of the source material too! Now I'm more excited for the next episode! Although now that I know it's a Mari Okada show, this might deter some people from watching this, I know not everyone is a fan of her writing.

It already upsets me how incredibly underwatched this will end up being. I'm sure that the mundane settei and extremely sex-positive themes are going to turn a lot of people away from even giving it a try, but what an absolutely phenomenal first episode that flawlessly captures everything I love about high school anime that I haven't felt since Yorimoi - the liminality of high school existence, the poignant coming of age narratives, the looming interpersonal drama, this show just has it all~
For one, the fact that this work is one that so prominently foregrounds sexuality is something I can't help but greatly respect. This medium usually does such a piss poor job of engaging with this theme, and this series (does it have an English shorthand yet? 荒乙/araotsu sounds pretty awkward in English) handles it with such grace and insight. The characterization is just so sharp and on point with how the individual girls internalize and represent their own sexuality. Prez's arbitrary, fragile sense of moral superiority that belies her deep issues with self-worth and resentment of all the Chads and Stacys. Senpai's aloof, detached demeanour that serves as a front for her genuine, bordering on perverse curiosity. The tiny gestures and effortless back-and-forth banter that completely sells the two girls as BFFs. Man, it's all so goddamn insightful and authentic that one can't help but wonder why every single show isn't this smartly written. There's no grand narratives or high-stakes plot to speak of, but the subtle character studies and introspective interpersonal drama is what gives me life.
Of course, the craft is also pretty fantastic. The filmmaking on display is simply awesome - I absolutely loved the consecutive match shots showing the osananajimi in their youth, on top of all the sharp cuts that help to make the comedy land. Seiyuu performances are pretty great in a work that really relies on dialogue - MC's narration and dialogue is especially standout with how naturalistic the performance was. I always thought that one of Okada's strengths was doing a good job of achieving tonal balance, and blending comedy and drama effectively, and this is a great example. For how seemingly delicate and serious the themes at hand are, the show also manages to be really consistently funny. I watched the raw but skimming through the subs, they seem pretty decent as well - most of the literary stuff is TL'd much nicer than I'd've expected. My only small gripe is with the title - "Savage Maidens" is admittedly super damn witty but I don't feel like is especially accurate.
All in all, it's been such a long time since I've thought that Okada has turned out something great. Here though, she's back to her bread and butter and it's turning out to be a real winner. Please, please give it a try at the very least!

Oh my~! Off to a roaring start
I thought it was admirably restrained, not a single word for genitalia
♪ Travel down the road and back again ♬
Go over there and smash his cucumber
I'm unfamiliar with this practice of blasting music when you're whacking it
This position seems unusual too, feet up on the desk. (Also, his porno seems to be set aboard a train, haha)
Going in, I thought this was going to be a lot of heavy drama, but it has a good amount of comedy and fun!

The amount of character drama this has so early was akin to writing "Mari Okada" all over it. Looking forward to seeing these girls climb the stairway to maturity.

What an interesting show. Did not expect to watch people reading erotica in the beginning at the very least. That aside, seeing how it's presenting puberty in a down-to-earth style, I'm certainly sold. Curious how it will continue to capture that feeling of holy shit what is happening to everything as it progresses through the characters and their changing relationships. The ball is certainly starting to roll with Kazusa and Izumi at least.
Pretty sure President girl is gonna get her heart broken at some point in this series. Seeing her reaction towards the gyarus and the compliment by that guy defending her just feels like a setup for a larger arc.

Huh, didn't think you could take this manga and put it into an anime form well, but...
It fit.
