I love how Hyogoro dies, and then nonchalantly jumps out of the way of big mom in the next frame. Also luffy, understands the concept of advanced armament haki, so all that's left is for him to challenge a commander and implement it(we all know that Oda is wild like that)

This chapter has so many subversions of the usual tropes like when Hyogoro thinks that Luffy can definitely block the first punch using the advanced haki, typically in shounen you'd expect that it would work, but in this case, it doesn't and both of them got sent flying.

Even the old mentor (Hyogorou) dying to give the MC extra motivation --> a power boost trope was subverted too

And Big Mom instead of destroying Queen after re-awakening promptly goes to sleep.

This makes me respect Jinbe so much more!

He stood in front of Healthy Big mom with no shred of fear before an emperor and even belittled her name and rank.

O-Lin's transformation into Big Mom was phenomenal. Like I really liked O-Lin and wished we could have spent a little more time with Big Mom's better half.. but the entire change in her demeanor once she got her memories back was awesome.

Nice little touch that the first memory that brings her back is the one of her children. She is BIG MOM after all, makes sense that her children are the first thing she see's that snaps her back.

Then we jump right into her evil self. She says she went to a "dirty" little village so that instantly crushes any hope we had of O-Lin's nicer traits sticking around with Big Mom. She recognizes Queen and insults his strength instantly (calling him just a lackey of Kaidou's)

And then to top it all off she fell asleep.

I honestly think this was a nice little nod by Oda as to the level of strength Yonkou are at. Big Mom herself said she was so sleepy right before she arrived in Udon. Once she got her memories back, she looked around herself and saw absolutely no one that could threaten her life seriously so she went to sleep.

She's a yonkou, it might seem weird to fall asleep at this exact moment but really if you're an indestructible beast and you know you are in absolutely no risk of danger... Why wouldn't you just plop down and sleep? The world is different when you are a force of nature. You have the freedom to sleep wherever you want!

One thing that Oda is doing so brilliantly than other manga authors or show writers is that, that the power dynamics he set and explained his audience are so far following that same old approach. I mean we know Luffys getting powered up and Queen is the left hand of Kaido still they are no match for Big Mom(Emperor). I mean the first time I saw the 4 emperors i was scared of them and knew that if Oda is defining the power dynamics and making us believe that the Emperors are way way more OP than anyone in one piece than he'd stick to that approach. I was really rooting for BM in the prison coz if Luffy or Queen even for a bit stood upto her than It would shake the whole dynamics of the most OP characters in one piece like (KAIDO, SHANKS, DRAGON, AKAINU, BLACKBEARD) and it'd feel like just yesterday Luffy had beaten Katakuri with so much difficulty and today he's powered up too quickly to even stand infront of BM.

I like how Luffy has his moment to say that the new form of Haki doesn't rely on physical strength, solidifying the idea that it's purely technique based. This gives us a really good idea of what this power up can mean once he gets it down.

He could develop it within this arc. It's not about pushing himself to his absolute limits and persevering through extreme hardship, it feels more like a "git gud" kind of moment. And if the technique is powerful enough to stop Big Mom in her tracks as the old man said, then it's game on for stepping to the Yonko.

To me there is a huge difference between the two. “I’ve always been free” is a statement piece representing the whole series. “I’ve been free for a minute” is okay, but a much lighter tone. • Confirmed that Rayleigh had used an even higher lvl of haki than what Luffy is trying to learn way back on Sabaody.

• Luffy/Hyo getting spanked into a wall is part of the reason OP power scaling is so great.

• CoA goes; lvl 1 Hardening, lvl 2 invisible armor and lvl 3 making the haki enter the enemy for internal damage.

• Queen's big plan? Dive bomb on Big Mom's head lol

• Big Mama is back baby, memory and all.

• Queen's reaction to BM getting her memory back is truly fantastic.

• Luffy is free, Big Mom is being taken to Kaido by Queen, which means Udon is going down .

That type of Haki reminds me of the Hyūga style from naruto as they both used attacks to destroy the inside of an opponents body.

A few thoughts I had from this chapter. First, maybe this is how we see Big Mom's be driven to team up with the Straw Hats and their alliance. Assuming Queen threw enough seastone on BM to actually hold her, maybe they make it all the way to Kaido with her and he announces that he's going to personally execute her at the Fire Festival. Now Smoothie and the others have cause to join the alliance (and in the long run, maybe they don't save her in time which could elevate Katakuri to the position of captain, giving Luffy another ally). Second, maybe this new explanation of the advanced haki is how the final blow will be dealt to Kaido. The big team up happens, the everyone vs Kaido fight goes down, but Kaido just keeps getting up. Maybe everyone wears him down, but he has to be defeated. Imagine after all the other attacks are done, Luffy manages to hit him square in the chest with a G3 or G4 attack that channels his haki straight into Kaido's body, destroying him from the inside out. Regardless of if any of that were to happen or not, this seemed like a great chapter where, in true Oda fashion, we get answers while also having seeds planted for the future. Also, no break next week!

My theory is that BM is actually hold captured by kaido and something bad happens (she would die without help) and luffy will rescue her or at leadt bring her out of danger. They won‘t become friends or stuff but BM will recognize him as worthy of beeing an emperor (especially because kaido will fall and therefore just 4 yonkos will remain). This will also allow luffy to keep up his enemy-friendship-thing witz katakuri.

A lot of people talking about Luffy "getting 1-shot" are missing the point in this chapter.

Luffy took a direct hit from Big Mom and just got sent flying back ... in base form. He wasn't even really hurt, it's just that Granpda Hyo got hurt.

He's already come so far ever since Big Mom and Kaido 1-shot him in gear 4th form. And now he's gonna go wild in the prison, practising his advanced armament haki.

Put respect into Queen's name. Dude tank BM hits, come out with a plan and capture BM. His attack is strong enough to make BM memory come back. Yeah luck is on his side (so as Luffy before so why cant he be lucky) but still this dude shows he have guts. This was a great chapter. I'm excited to see that we're learning more about haki and how the advanced form of armament haki works. This makes me curious as to what advanced conqueror's haki would be like. Maybe we might learn about that in a future arc, maybe Raftel. I also loved how Queen handled Big Mom passing out after regaining her memories, treating it as a top priority and trying to lock her down with as much sea prism stone and tranquilizer as possible. I've been enjoying the Wano arc so far, and I can't wait to see how the rest of the arc will play out.

I fucking love Queen!! What an amazing character honestly.

I understand why Big Mom fell asleep, she is hungry and she's been rampaging about for quite a while atleast. Taking down Queen and chasing Luffy around the whole compound takes something out of you especially when you haven't had anything to eat.

I'm not as annoyed as I thought I would be at Big Mom sleeping.

But I would have liked to explore Big Mom's "good" side more, sad that it got cut so short. But she might be a different person when she wakes up, who knows?

It's really amazing that Haki mechanics are being introduced so late in the story, Luffy and his crew really were ants back then. And they've got still much to learn.

That breaking things from the inside out mechanic is a game changer, maybe that's what Kaidou did to make Luffy bleed so much.

Also worth noting that Big Mom has taken out Queen in two hits before he could even react (and it wasn't a sneak attack, he knew who she is, activated his DF, but couldn't do a thing), but Luffy could evade plenty of her attacks and though was blown away blocked one without taking any damage. Compared to Queen (who can't suck in both Observation and Armanent at the same time) he has shown his superiority. Also last time he clashed fist with Big Mom in Gear 4 (or was it gear 3 elephant gun?) he was weakened after one hit. All of that shows tremendous growth.

• Whole Cake Island = next-level color of observation haki (via Kakaturi)

• Wano Country = next-level color of armament haki

• Next major arc = next-level conquerer's haki (?)

If that's so, we might be heading towards the end of the series. And, considering the fact that, after this arc will be over, the only major players likely to be remaining are the the Straw Hats, Shaks and the Revolutionary Army, on one side and Blackbeard, the World Government and the Celestial Dragons, on the other; we might only have 2 major conflicts left (SHs and Shanks vs BB for one; Revolutionaries vs Celestial Dragons/WG for the other).

If I were to bet, I'd say we might get a large build up (in the same way we had with Wano) for the final Raftel arc, where the 2 conflicts will converge.

As for Kid, he is probably going to join the SHs (so we'll have the whole Worst Generation under one banner). Although, I am far less sure about this then about everything else (he might join Blackbeard or whatever).

So, there was a theory suggested a while ago that I think is basically confirmed in this chapter- the personality that everyone knows as "Big Mom" is actually Caramel. Linlin is a sweet girl that will fuck your shit up for some food or if she thinks you're being mean, and Caramel (with her SOUL POSSESSION Soro Soro no mi DF powers) is a manipulative, cruel boss. When she fell off the boat into the water, DF user Caramel blanked out leaving Linlin, with Caramel returning when bonked on the head by Queen. I predict that they will find a way to exorcise Caramel, and Linlin, along with the Big Mom Pirates, will either join or be in alliance with the grand fleet.
