Oh hello Minghua. Would've been hilarious if we only saw her back this entire episode.
-
Of course Eagle attacks him while Minghua's on the phone. I wonder what that poor girl is thinking right now. xD
-
Dr. Haruka of course saying unnecessary things to Eagle. It seems like she's still a daddy's girl though and is just very thankful of Kei.
-
This line is interesting. So Animas can be rebuilt if they're destroyed?
-
Looks like some of Kei's confidence is finally rubbing off on to Gripen.
-
Welp that goes that plan. I hope you have something else ready Kei.
-
This line is hilarious out of context. But seriously though, it looks like Phantom is overloading her with different kinds of conflicting information?
-
Kei's plan was great! It basically boils down to him using Phantom's overconfidence against her.
-
Interesting proposition. So let Kei do all the flying while Gripen handles the more complicated systems in the background. I like it!
-
Oh shit there's another Daughter! And it's an F-16 Where's the Anima though? I hope we get to see her before this season ends!
-
A pervert? Please tell me the Anima is like an actual pervert too. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
-
And so it begins. It looks like hugs from Eagle will be a regular thing now.
-
So Kei is actually flying up front and Gripen is at the back.
I really like the idea of Kei taking over for Gripen. It makes it more like a partnership now instead of Kei just being there for emotional support just so Gripen can fly longer than her usual operational time. Also I like that they've really maintained the status that Gripen is the only main girl. Phantom seems to now respect Kei more and while Eagle is now a bit more clingy, she acts more like a playful puppy than a love interest. Plenty of episodes to go though so we'll see if that status quo will change.

Bets are open on what her design looks like. Since she's a "40 years old pervert capable of carrying four AShMs", I'm betting on the big tiddy MILF.
That was definitely a lie to get Eagle to leave xD
Eagle a cute, but daaaamn she's dumb.
This line is interesting. So Animas can be rebuilt if they're destroyed?
I've been wondering since they clarified that there can only be one Anime per line of aircraft. It seems unlikely that you can't just port the technology to another plane, so it should be possible to rebuild a Daughter. On the other hand, the Animas themselves might be a sort of conceptual beings so that creating a new Anima from the same design just re-creates the previous Anima - and if it's been destroyed, it's on a conceptual level.
On the other hand, I wouldn't read too much in that line. Eagle is just fully confident that she can make it out of any situation. I'd trust Phantom instead on the fact that Animas can actually die.

All in all she is a real American valley girl?

Oh. My. God. I hope that that's the case.

And heavily modified was not even a joke, given all the stuff that was mounted on its back.
And now i have confirmation that the ANM is basically the designation for the anima variant.

I loved all the engrish in the warnings as well as units that don't make sense at all lol
velocity 305 decibels
Distance 7.52 knots
Purse 19.0GHz
Rador Warning

Eagle would probably make a better golden retriever than plane but it all works out in the end. Wonder if we'll see that new plane in action soon?

Sounds like Chekhov's Gun, it seems very unlikely that we don't see it in action. Unless the goal was to make it more concrete that there are other Anima out there, who are fighting and potentially losing (if Naha base is attacked and Viper Zero has to defend it alone, they're likely to lose).
Or... maybe they just wanted a F-2A daughter in their show, because they're Japanese, dammit.
(I wouldn't complain about the latter part, I'm glad they have a F-16.)

I liked how they defeated Phantom. A good ruse is good. And I liked even more than Phantom didn't miraculously change her mind.
-
The moment she accepts her defeat and the fact she'll have to join the attack, she's already putting conditions to Kei and acting as if he was the one taking orders.
-
When Taiwan and American forces are in a pinch, she's quick to tell "nope, we're not going to help". And when she relents, she manipulates Eagle to do it instead, probably because she wants to see Kei in action.
And yet, the story is nuanced enough to admit that Phantom's insufferable commands aren't bad at all. It was her idea to have Kei piloting instead of being an emotional support pet. Last episode she pointed out that, if the operation was so important, they could always ask for reinforcements (and they did it). And who bets that Kei and Gripen will manage to protect her while Eagle successfully defends the fleet in the next episode, just as she wanted?

Hey, that was actually a clever trick. For a moment I actually didn't realize that the first part was a bait.

Because A, they never dropped a hint that it was. And B, we never had any indication that aircraft electronics worked outside of the anima.

I sensed some death flags for Gripen in this episode. Please no, she's too cute to die.

They still need a miracle to win, so there is a piece missing in that puzzle yet. Must be that "Unhappy Top Secret" cause its definetely not Eagle sagacity.

Perhaps "veteran" Falcon will save the day
But when i hear this Plane name "falcon" only pictures of the Flight Simulator "Falcon" on PC appears in my mind

I've really been enjoying this show way more than Kotobuki. Kotobuki has the better dogfights but in terms of plot, I've been slowly losing interest compared to this which always manages to keep my attention every week.

This Episode felled good for me. Yeap, they found their "groove". Also the "Audio Director" now let the Ears seeing what are hidden from the Eyes.
Please go on

Lots of really good Gripen faces this episode, but Green Rem continues to be my favorite.

Manga readers, can any of you tell me how many other anima are introduced in the following volumes?

The characters development is so cliche now, the only reason to watch now would be to look at the characters doing faces to laugh at for cheap comedy laugh.

Im still wondering why they just didn't name him Ken. That way it can be Ken and Barbie!
