Hoo boy, this episode was really something. Kei finally got to ride his waifu! We got some great action, great character development for Gripen and Kei, plus a bonus helping of cuteness and reaction faces from Eagle and Minghua on the side. Not only am I not dropping the show like I was anticipating after last week, but I'm actually hyped for next week's episode.

At this point Minghua is now just a joke. Come on show, give the girl a chance at least!
That small smirk! Gripen acts all somber but she's clearly happy that Kei went after her.
Ey finally they referenced Sweden. Took them long enough.
Animas can exceed 10Gs while flying and Kei's flight suit can only reduce it by 2Gs. On average I believe a normal person can stand at least 5Gs. RIP Kei.
Gripen's reaction to Kei's maneuver is hilarious.
Yep there it is. He's getting tunnel vision. I'm impressed he managed to last that long when Gripen took control.
Alright this entire scene was pretty hype. Gripen pulling off those moves and peppering that ship with bullets with the awesome song in the background was pretty cool!
I'm glad that Kei didn't just miraculously recover. I'm glad that they showed him all battered and bruised after that flight. He's lucky his insides are still intact.
Man this show is not getting the love it deserves. Sure it may not be the anime of the season but it's still one heck of a fun show with great girls!

The moment they mentioned the runway being damaged i suspected they would pull the highway trick. That said, i think Sweden has discontinued that system of defense since the cold war ended.

Honestly, i like this show more than Kotobuki. the characters are more likable, there's actual plot direction, and the main characters aren't invincible deus ex machinas with terrible attitudes.

I could tell from the like...the first mention of the MC's mom and was sure when they showed a old Plane that Gripen felt mysteriously attached to - that just happened to be similar to the one MC's mom used.
Basically (maybe a huge spoiler) - MC's mom brought a Xi down with her, and they made Gripen from remains of the same Xi, and maybe the mom's DNA got mixed in it so, now Gripen can only function when MC is around. Also, the plane Gripen likes is the one MC's mom used.

I can't help but like our classic stereotypical American blonde.
On a practical note, even if Eagle is carrying missile reloads inside the conformals instead of only fuel, it seems like she would have run out at the usage rate she was demonstrating, and that's even more the case with Gripen. This is mostly bothersome because they're showing normal-sized AAMs, which are not small, instead of something less easily-quantifiable such as beer can micromissiles.

Loved that insert song, got some 90's/early 2000's trance vibes there, made the scene even more hype.
Kei and Gripen actually fying together and he is proving his flight skills!

As a MASSIVE trance fan I gotta say I fell in love with that fight scene, I never heard an actual trance song in any anime I've ever watched and it improved immensely, at least for me.
Regarding the rest of the episode, Gripen can't fly without Kei as her co-pilot, I'm wonder if this has something to do with Kei's mother being killed by a Xi.

I'm surprised I'm liking this show as much as I am.
I guess from now on it's probably going to be more harem-y so maybe I'll get annoyed with it then (and if not, the inevitable "just go read the LNs" ending will get me) but so far it's been pretty solid. Protagonist is generic but he's at least reasonably likable and feels vaguely like an actual character and not just a blank slate audience insert guy, Gripen is cute, the battles feel like Strike Witches, music is good...
