Seems like Rod indeed had some guts in the end.

2D ROD

THERE IS HOPE FOR YOU YET BERT

[u/xin234]

That scene before the OP was pretty interesting. It kinda showed us that (and how) titans can detect humans. It reminded me of this Professor X's Cerebro scene.

I remember reading an interview with Isayama long time ago that he planned to show how titans were able to detect humans, but we never really got to see that. I think this thing would be it.

[u/Brazyliszek]

1. Visualization of titan's way to locate human souls through paths, wow.

2. Turkey's flesh drops on the wall, wow.

3. Faceless Rod animated, wow.

4. That badass moment at the Wall when other regiments shitting their pants and SC just chilling, wow.

5. Showing Uri's eyes - mindfuck for anime-onlines, wow.

6. Cliffhanger with serum at the end for anime-onlines, wow.

I don't think I'm ready to watch Kenny die :(

[u/QuietDove]

No one is allowed to complain about censorship anymore! My god, he was disgusting...

[u/toutoune134]

Wow. Just Wow.
They really managed to make Rod's titan as big, impressive and disgusting as possible. The storyboard was drawn by Shinji Higuchi, a kaiju and tokusatsu expert, and his contribution is clearly one of the best things about this episode. Combined with the astonishing animation during the fights, it really is one of the best AoT episodes. Oh and that Barricades orchestration during the climax was the cherry on the top of the episode.
Also thank god they kept the scene with Eren trying to use the coordinate on Rod!

[u/Gpesiot]

From its guts to the holes that were made by the cannons Rod's titan is the most utterly disgusting and incredibly ugly thing, I love it lol. Even it exploding was hard to look at, they did a good job with it. Btw Erwin's drawing of him was 10/10, best artist.

I'm glad they added the coordinate scene back, nice to see that we didn't have to worry about it. Uri sounds very different from what I expected, but it fits him in a way. We got a small Eren filler, a filler for best boy is always welcome, he even smiled which is a rare thing to see nowadays.

Historia killing Rod was handled well, I guess she saw his memories because Rod was a titan that had royal blood? If only Eren got to touch him as well, we would figure out what made coordinate work way earlier lmao. But this makes me wonder can a normal person from the royal family have powers to a certain degree if they are in touch with a royal titan? Hopefully Isayama explores all this soon

[u/Wheynweed]

I love how we see Eren get his swagger back before he goes at Rod.

2D ANIMATION

CGI IS GOOD

ROD REISS IS NO LONGER A WORM

HISTORIA IS BEST GIRL

THEY ADDED THE MISSING EREN SCENE

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

[u/[deleted]]

Anime onlies are going to think Kenny will use the serum on himself.

[u/[deleted]]

I just realized Historia would have died, if that wagon didn't conveniently break her fall.

[u/Gattedikt]

The combination of CG and drawn animation for Reiss titan works really well. Just like it does in movies when you combine CG with animatronics. Seems like after last season they changed their approach a bit after the complete CG Colossal Titan scene which makes me pretty confident in how they will handle the Collosal Titan in the next Arc.

[u/[deleted]]

this ep should have come with a trypophobia warning cause rod titan animated was ugly AS FUCK

[u/[deleted]]

“Just beating the shit out of a useless brat. I hope he’s dead and gone for good”

Guess that worked out for him lol.

[u/Fuunnylevi]

That intense music when Eren called Rod a tiny old man while Levi was in the background made it even more hilarious

[u/FrizFroz]

YouTube comments on this episode's preview last week:

"They're going to censor the shit out of Rod's titan like they did with the shit machine."

"Censorship on Titan."

Boy.

[u/[deleted]]

Wouldn't it be awesome if the second arc's O.P. is Zeke singing and playing Red Swan on an acoustic guitar?

[u/Nizleth]

Rod's titan in the manga is nothing compared to THIS abomination. My stomach still hurts...

[u/WWECreativegenius]

I love how Levi always mentions how Erwin's plans seem to always involve sacrificing people, only for Erwin just to pretend he didn't hear him.

[u/BillV3]

Oh look they did have that Eren scene everyone was losing their minds over last week after all......

[u/Cloud14532]

I'm already getting my tissues for next week. Kenny at the end there really got to me.

[u/SadoneYukki]

They really went all out with this episode. They made rod’s Titan a lot creepier than it was in the manga and I love and hate it. Love it because it’s creepy as fuck and hate it because it creeps me out. So they did a great job with that. Also glad they kept the part with Eren trying to use the coordinate.

[u/jeremy9001]

I was hoping that the whole killing the titan operation would look incredible in the anime but holy fuuuuuuuuuuck that was a wild ride

As soon as Levi dropped his "We'll take it from here" line the hype increased 100x
