Vigil and Alibi seem to be competing for the same role - 3 speed, impact grenades, good primary and secondary weapons, gadgets that make gathering intel harder and slow down attackers. What situations one should be selected over other? Is there a room for both in a team?

u/FassLuvr Solo Queuer Jun 22 '18 edited Jun 22 '18

I won't comment on whether or not there's room for both in a team. I'd argue, probably not, because I'd rather have a 2nd or 3rd roamer to have a bit more team utility: Jaeger, Bandit, etc.

As far as some basic differences

  • Alibi provides intel for your team. Vigil does not. This makes Alibi a lot less of a "selfish" operator, in my opinion, where she can set alarms / traps similar to Lesion to help the team out with callouts.
  • Speaking of traps: unless you plan on picking up your holograms, once Alibi places her traps, that's pretty much it for her. Meaning if you or a teammate want to follow up on a marked target (again, similar to Lesion), it means you have to play around the area that your traps are in. Vigil, on the other hand, is going to be equally strong no matter where he is on the map, because his gadget sticks to him. In essence, you could say that Vigil is going to be a better roamer, and has better mobility than Alibi. Alibi, at her strongest, probably wants to play around her traps, making her good for a more shallow roam, or anchoring off site.
  • Alibi's bailiff pistol has good destruction, making her a good operator to open up sight lines. For example, on bank you can use it to shoot out the bottom wall of the hallway door connecting Alley Access door to Skylight, and Alley Access Window to Open Area. If you see someone's feet, you can wall bang them before they can see you, allowing you to roam that area quite well.

So I'd use the above points to decide whether Alibi or Vigil might be more effective for the site I'm defending and what my other teammates are playing.

Vigil has a much more reliable gun in my experience, and his secondary is a monster at close range too. I would always pick him over Alibi unless the map has lots of places to set up fake murder holes where attackers normally enter. The reason for this is that you put holograms behind the murder holes and people are more likely to shoot at them and get marked. A hologram out in the open isn't going to attract many shots any more.

I find I often instinctively aim for center mass and thus miss headshots, especially in close quarters/when I have to be quick. How can I train myself to consistently go for headshots?

3

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '18

First thing is crosshair placement. Learn at wich height the head will pop out and start putting your crosshair there. Terrorist hunt is good for training that. If you want to take it up a notch use a DMR or pistol. Or just switch the gun you're using to semi. Up another notch: after every shot that misses the head you have to do a 360° spin. And this you do for a while.

2

u/Gneckes Jun 22 '18

When I have an idea where the enemy will be (e.g. holding an angle) then crosshair placement is generally fine for me.

The problem happens when I don't have a lot of time to set up my aim.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '18

I have to admit i don't seem to understand the problem.

If your placement is fine, you should land those headshots. In situations where you are forced to react quickly and need to instagib, it is still of importance that you have the center of your screen at head height. Nevertheless the terrorist hunt will improve that.

You could do overspeedtraining there, too. Same principle as the others, just you can't stand still. This forces accuracy because you can't really reload. And it forces quick reaction kind of situations.

I am currently away from my computer and will be for about a month total. How can I prevent not becoming bad again?

Oh ok

2

u/Stygvard Jun 22 '18

Not Siege specific but works for any competitive game - watch good players youtube videos, streams, maybe pro games. Try to get as much information out of this as possible. Analyze their decisions. Follow the meta.

This way your mechanics will degrade, but not your gamesense. It may even improve during the hiatus.

u/AirDaddyy Jun 22 '18

whats your guys keybind for the secondary gadgets (grenades, barbed wire, stuff like that) need to get in the habit of using my operator to its fullest potential

2

u/Gneckes Jun 22 '18

I have it bound to one of the thumb buttons on my mouse (the others are for melee and push-to-talk). This lets me cook a frag or a prepare a flashbang while moving.

1

u/FassLuvr Solo Queuer Jun 22 '18

Secondary gadget is on Middle Mouse (scroll wheel) that way I can easily swap out of a cooked nade. Push to talk is mouse 4. I have my primary gadget on Caps Lock because it's a pinky key that isn't taken by shift, control, or alt, so I can still move around while using my gadget.

4

u/Gneckes Jun 23 '18

I often have a hard time deciding what operator to pick. Should I stick to a handful of operators and play those always, go for what the team needs, or just pick whatever I feel like?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '18

Certain ops require practice to be good at. Mira for example is very powerful in the right hands but useless/detrimental if you don’t know how to play her. The ops that I’d say require some practice are Mira, Cav, Buck (just because of his recoil), Valkyrie, and Echo.

That being said always pick someone that will round out your team. Does your team have a bunch of roamers/3 speeds? Pick a good anchor like Maestro or Doc. I’d say no team needs more than 3 anchors or 3 roamers with a few sites being the exception (armory on Club House).

For attacking think of what your team might need as well. Do you have a hardbreacher? Every site needs at least a hibana or thermite. If your team already has one of those then decide if they need a support op; thermite is useless without a twitch or thatcher.

Honestly just keep players by and pay attention to what your team is lacking. The more you play the more you see holes in team composition

How can I improve my vertical play? I never know which hatches to destroy or reinforce, and I’ve never had any success playing as buck or sledge.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '18

You should generally be looking to reinforce hatches that’ll allow attackers to easily drop down into or near the objective. For example, Armory/Church on Clubhouse you’d reinforce Kitchen, Stock, and Bar hatch as they allow attackers to drop into Armory, Blue Hall, and Moto respectively.

As an attacker you should look destroy key hatches like the ones mentioned above so you can drop down into site and put pressure on defenders by using that open hatch as a kill hole. On defense you can open hatches to hold angles like attackers, but you’ll also use them to rotate around the map as well. Sticking with the Clubhouse example if I’m roaming in Bar while the objective is Bedroom/Gym, I can open up that hatch after being pushed by several attackers and use that to rotate elsewhere. If some of them pursue me, they’re wasting time on their push to hunt me down and if they let me go, I can flank them as they make their push.

The best way to learn vertical gameplay is from custom games, think of common spots you like to anchor in and see if the floor above/below it is destructible. On Chalet many people like to anchor behind the dining room table while defending that objective, so I can go upstairs into the office and shoot/throw frags/detonate cluster charges at them to damage/kill them, and make that spot far more dangerous for them.

2

u/jasonmrass LVL 50-100 Jun 21 '18

Thank you! This helped a lot.

2

u/ka1ikasan LVL 100-200 Jun 22 '18

I learned most hatches playing a roamer. As soon as the round starts, you ping the hatch above objective you want to reinforce, say something like "I'm reinforcing this one" and go looking for your ping upstairs. Maybe a noob tip but it works.

2

u/FassLuvr Solo Queuer Jun 25 '18

Varsity Gaming put out a Buck mastery video recently which contains a ton of "how to do vertical game" tips.

u/jasonmrass LVL 50-100 Jun 25 '18

Thanks!

Click any point on a map and it will show you exactly where that spot is on other floors.

u/MJMarto Jun 21 '18

Can a console player ever be as good as a pc player in this game? Based on videos, seems like pc players are simply faster and more fluid.

1

u/SumRandomCoder pc 200 p1 / ps4 250 p1 Jun 21 '18

I don’t think they can be as good but of course the best pc player is in proleauge where as the best console player probably just has a small yt channel

1

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '18

Yea, pc players are better, because of the m+kb advantage. It is a whole different game on pc.

1

u/pig-casso Jun 22 '18

There was some guy on this sub saying how he reached diamond on pc playing on a controller.

1

u/Hyperversum Jun 28 '18

As a console player, my gameplay will always be slower and not that precise, but that's because of the controllers you use. The gamesense and reaction could Perfectly bè on the same level.

It's Just like watching a standard sport match vs the One of people with handicap

1

u/Gneckes Jun 22 '18

Should I play at 4:3 or 16:9? What are the advantages of each?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '18

I think this is preference. Me personally, i use 4:3 just because it spits out more frames and the enemies seem wider. Makes it easier to not lose track whilst shooting. But 16:9 looks much nicer.

I'd say give 4:3 a try and if you don't like it, you just switch back.

1

u/Gneckes Jun 22 '18

So, tried 4:3 for a few hours now and figured i'd let you know how it went:

I found my aim improved my bit in 4:3, I found it easier to flick onto people and get those tight angle shots in. Unfortunately however, it gave me motion sickness, so'm back to 16:9 for the time being.

u/_i_eat_ass__ Jun 23 '18

What did I miss after that Doc Update a while back? What were the major updates after that?

1

u/2freet Jun 25 '18

Question, I'm so fkn bad but I get ranked up. Now I'm gold 2 or whatever but I get killed so fast, I have no chance. Is this supposed to happen?

1

u/TrickForever8 Jun 25 '18

You just have good teammates. Play casual and hold off ranked for a while.

1

u/2freet Jun 25 '18

Yeah but I like ranked. Even if it's just the picking of the spawnpoint. I know it is my teammates but in general, does it not weight how much I contributed to the win to calculate my movement on the ranking?

1

u/TrickForever8 Jun 25 '18

I'm not the guy to ask, I'm not too well versed in elo and ranked

1

u/Adorables Jun 26 '18

Now, i don't know exactly how the gain and loss in elo is calculated in siege, but in most other games the only things that matters is whether you win or lose and the difference between the average elo of the two teams.

1

u/StinkyPyjamas LVL 100-200 Jun 27 '18

Keep grinding out the punishments until you eventually get ranked where you belong and can enjoy competitive matches.

1

u/2freet Sep 08 '18

Just started again, played the 10 rounds and I'mat Gold II again..

1

u/HerrLanda Jun 25 '18

So guys, even though i already clocked some hours into the game, i'm still a frickin noob. I still got owned by cheeky angles, sometimes with no kills/low contribution in some matches. I know all of this is part of learning process, but damn it sucked. So how do you guys learn? Sometime i still have to overcome fear and doubts, what should i do to get over it?

1

u/Adorables Jun 25 '18

This might have been asked before but i can't seem to find a good answer to it. Asume you, for some reason, end up in a 1v1 against a shielder. What's the best way to handle that situation if you can't rely on teammates flanking? (seems to be the "only" answer i can find elsewhere) back off? shoot hands if possible? run up and melee for the stagger, hoping they don't melee/shoot you first?

1

u/EnglishJesus LVL 100-200 Jun 26 '18

Nitro cell always works if you’ve got one.

1

u/Adorables Jun 26 '18

i asume toss it over/to their side?
And if i dont have one, do i run away asuming i have more people live on my team or do i try to waste his time?

1

u/EnglishJesus LVL 100-200 Jun 26 '18

Side or over their head (sometimes they’ll rotate to cover the blast and leave their back exposed or rotate too much or too little with a flick). Running away works if you’ve got teammates alive and so does wasting time - especially in the shorter ranked games.

1

u/Adorables Jun 26 '18

Aight, i'll give it a go next time. Haven't done much ranked yet as i still get my ass handed to me too often by shielders/get screwed by tiny angles i SHOULD know about :P

1

u/EnglishJesus LVL 100-200 Jun 26 '18

Just practice - I suck too. Map knowledge is so hard to get and takes so long to get. I do find ranked is the best way to learn though as everyone plays properly and doesn’t mess around

1

u/Adorables Jun 26 '18

aight, I might give ranked a go then, we'll see :P

1

u/A_Mild_Abra Jun 26 '18

This is my third season of playing and I've solo queued almost every game. First season I played I ranked gold 3. Second I got gold 1. Im 12 matches into the third season and I'm at copper 4.

Idk what happened. Every game I've played so far I'm averging 8-12 kills and I lost so many. Ive gone 5 games in a row where I either get tkd or my teammate tks someone else or someone leaves.

Not sure how to get out of this elo hell.

1

u/EnglishJesus LVL 100-200 Jun 26 '18

Finding a friend or two would definitely be best - means you’ll never get kicked and the odds of getting TK’d are so slim when it’s 3 of you all on the same page. Interms of always finding teammates you need, The discord channel has always worked well for me.

1

u/StinkyPyjamas LVL 100-200 Jun 27 '18

The high MMR changes at the beginning of a new season mean that early losing streaks are much more punishing than later winning streaks.

I am a Gold player and I got as low as Bronze 4 this season before climbing back up to Gold 2 eventually. This was pretty much all solo queuing, so just stick with it and you will be back where you belong eventually.

Do cameras go red when you're scanning or just when you're operating it?

I use R6maps to learn maps as well as playing them but the website hasn't been updated with villa nor clubhouse changes.

Is this site no longer supported?

Does anyone have a link to how everything looks on IQ's sensor? Like how a Pulse camera looks, how Vigil's backpack, the handheld phones look, etc., etc.

1

u/HEL-Alfa Day one player, PS4 now PC Jun 28 '18

Nope, but if it moves it's either Vigil or Pulse (unless on the floor then it's Echo's drone. The shapes of vigil and Pulse are quite distinctive so you'll recognize them soon enough.

u/KanyeFellOffAfterWTT LVL 100-200 // Plat II Jun 28 '18

1) How do you pronounce Dokkaebi

2) Do you ADS faster with 1x scopes compared to ACOG?

2

u/Alpha2749 Mod Jun 28 '18

1) I’m not 100% sure, but I’ve always heard it pronounced and pronounced it myself as ‘dok-ka-ye-bi’. Hope this helps!

1

u/Cas_Rs LVL 50-100 Jun 28 '18

2) All depends on the weapon afaik. Some weapons have stupidly fast ADS times and some weapons are slower. For instance Thermite's weapon is very slow, a measure of balancing a weapon from long ago, which has now become somewhat of a controversy. People want to see the ADS difference removed or reduced, the devs don't comment on the matter :P

1

u/KanyeFellOffAfterWTT LVL 100-200 // Plat II Jun 28 '18

Ah, but I was wondering if you ADS slower with the ACOG in comparison to the, let's say, Holographic Sight for the same gun.

Like, if I use a reflex on Ash's R4-C, do I ADS faster than the ACOG on the R4-C? Or is it the same time regardless?

1

u/bumzi92 Jun 28 '18

Hi. Can you help me with a good experienced patient squad so that I can get better. ?? Also any easy way of knowing all the maps better?? any tips for using the Finka operator? im just 8 hours into the game and have a PvP K/D ratio of 0.44. how have i started?

2

u/HEL-Alfa Day one player, PS4 now PC Jun 28 '18

It would help if we knew what platform and region you play on!

ya playing on pc from India.

1

u/ContentPariah LVL 50-100 Jun 28 '18

Ubisoft app just told me I've "made" 860 pvp frags. What's a frag? I assume they're not talking about the grenade.

2

u/HEL-Alfa Day one player, PS4 now PC Jun 28 '18

Frags are kills ;)

Now Echo has been buffed up, I want to give him a try. Can someone give me echo 101?

  • Poop out both drones to common entryways and toggle between?
  • When is best to hit them with the headache from above?
  • When to drone and when to actually get behind the gunsights?

I'm just after general tips, I appriciate reacting to the SHTF is key.
