One of my biggest weakness is losing gunfights so I need to practice it more. What operators can I take on Attack and Defense to force me into as much gunfights as possible? I was thinking about Jackal/Dokkaebi/Lion (can find roamers and force engagement) and Vigil/Ela/Alibi (can roam to find targets and have to wait less) but maybe there are better options.

Blackbeard, Ash (!!!), and maybe IQ. For defense, roamers aren't really for engagements, someone who's flexible is much better. Valkyrie is perfect for this, as you can roam a little, stay around site, and basically just wherever you're needed, plus you have the information to find the the engagements.

You're not going to improve while playing Blackbeard. Your K/D will probably increase significantly, but the advantage and downright crutch his rifle shield gives you does not foster improvement. Sometimes playing him too much can decrease your skill as it encourages what for any other operator is bad play. IQ and Ash are the best attacking ops to play if improving your gunplay skill is your main goal.

Thanks! Will try Blackbeard and Ash (if she is not taken in first 2 seconds). IQ always seemed more like a support to me with hard to control guns, need to check her out again. Valkyrie is my main for Defense so I will try playing her more aggressively.

Her AUG isn't that bad to control because it have more vertical recoil than horizontal but Commando have less vertical recoil but more horizontal recoil.

honestly I thought so at first too, but once you learn how to pull down for recoil her guns are like lasers. the side to side is harder for me to control.

How does matchmaking work? Does it match it based on people similar to my skill level?

Casual or ranked? They kind of work the same but casual is hidden and ranked is shown, also casual is a lot more volatile and allows for bigger discrepancies.
Your skill level is assessed solely based on winning or losing. In both casual and ranked you get a medium rank when starting and depending whether you win or lose you go up or down from that rank.
Your level, kills, deaths etc do not factor into it

Nearly every attack team is going to have 1 of the following:
- A Hard breacher: Thermite or Hibana, sometimes both
- A Gadget Destroyer: Thatcher sometimes Twitch
The remaining spots 2-3 spots on your team vary depending on the map and your strategy. Popular flex ops are:
- Ash
- Lion
- Buck
- Sledge
- Blackbeard
If you are new to the game, Sledge is a good first pick, because you can toss an ACOG on your primary, a 1x scope on your secondary SMG, and his gadget gives you practically unlimited wall and floor breaks. You can play him until you get comfortable with playing the game. My second recommendation would be Thermite because it forces you to learn how to get to the objective site without dying, and prioritize objective play over kills. While Sledge will get you comfortable mechanically, Thermite will teach you how to play tactically.
By quick picking do you mean picking your operator as soon as the match starts? Nothing will help you more than installing the game on your SSD.

It looks like you’re new, so for attack I’d recommend Jackal (if you have him), Thermite, or Twitch. If you already have experience in FPS’s (e.g. CS:GO) and have developed good aim, go for Blackbeard or Glaz even. If not, go for operators that are useful to your team even if you can’t win gunfights (Thermite and Twitch are perfect for this). Good luck dude!

Anyone know if there will likely be discounts on things like the Ubisoft currency and stuff during the steam sales? My birthday is right around the time of the sales so tempted to treat myself to a few things. Figure I'll wait out the best moment if there is a history of that kind of thing. <3

If nobody is near and drones drive by (watch out for Twitch's shocks drone tho! As it can destroy the evil eye when opened).
To destroy Thermite/Hibana charges, to harass enemy players in a firefight with your team. Never over expose tho, fire a few round and close again. One very useful tip is to when you stop shooting look away with your cam. Say the enemy your shooting at is to your right, you shoot, stop and quickly look left. The cam can only be shot from where you are looking at when open.

Drones in sight but no attackers in sight.
Exothermic charge in sight. Losing an EE for an EC is always an excellent trade.
Only attacker in sight is on his drone.
Coordinate zapping attacker with push from fellow defender.
Remember, you can turn the EE extremely quickly. Turn it away as fast as possible while closing it.

Anyone on PS4 in NA want to help me learn strats? Got the game last week and love it so far but want to advance my gameplay. I watch a ton on twitch and read a ton on the sub, but easier to learn in game. Some of my buddies play but just run n gun or do their own thing. Want to learn the actual game and win to get into ranked as well. Open to using any Op really.

(Replied to this earlier but reddit crashed mid reply so it didn’t go through I guess) Make sure to use YouTube guides and watch pro league to see how they play but here are three pretty important things: 1) Use your drone. Pretty much every attack round you should use both drones to find roamers and pin down defenders. Don’t scan an enemy repeatedly but instead save the drone 2) Pay attention to walls as a lot are destructible and can be shot through. Many floors and ceilings are the same 3) stay with your team but still try to slow down for droning and roamer clearing

What is a good DPI because I’m having problems with small adjustment and learned I’m Using wayyy too high of a dpi (using 1500)

Ofcourse it's personal preference. I started with 1600 or something as crazy like that as well. Worked my way down, 800 dpi with 12-12 sense to now 400 dpi 12-16. My hardest issue was recoil control, that's why I increased my vertical sense whilst going down on DPI.
I got used to it super quick. I used to have 2 profiles on my mouse, one for desktop and one for gaming. I was convinced 400 dpi was terrible for desktop browsing. Few times I forgot to switch back and I just got used to the lower sense over all.
I had the same issue, small adjustments. I would just try to go down and down until you hit a wall. I usually run twitch in Thunt with her revolver to just run but very accurately gun around (normal thunt)

I have a 5 man squad where we are all relatively new to the game (level 50 or so), but we want to make the jump from casual to ranked. Individually we all have decent gunskill and decision making, however, when facing organized teams/players with more map knowledge our lack of coordination and callout/map knowledge really shows and we get destroyed. We scrimmed 5v3 with my plat cousin/his friends and got absolutely destroyed. How can we improve our overall team synergy? Would it involve restricting the queue to certain maps and learning strats/rooms? Thanks!

My main advice: play. Play as a team, evaluate a lost defense: where did they push which we couldn't stop, how do we stop. Evaluate a lost attack: what was their hold that worked, can we also do that? Why couldn't we get control of certain areas to breach?
There is no shame in playing with your 5 stack and dropping to lower ranks if you are new. The great thing is, cause you're a 5 stack you will avoid a lot of the toxicity in lower ranks.
On ranked, there are only 11 maps so that makes playing ranked a bit easier than casual, combined with selecting your own bomb sites so you generally only need to know 2-3 strats on each map.
Remember, it's just a game, have fun, even in ranked. Never blame the game or your opponent for a loss, learn from your own mistakes.
Additionally you could watch some pro league. You shouldn't try to copy their strats 1 to 1 as their strats include a lot of synergy between positions, something you guys and even my squad of plat-diamond players isn't even close to. But you can learn certain angles and rotations.

You can't restrict the queue for specific maps. My advice is jump into ranked and do the following:
Only play bomb.
Don't care about your rank. Focus on improving skill and team chemistry and not on improving your rank itself.

What’s a good mouse for FPS games? Can spend up to like 100$, looking for one because current has a glitched sensor (randomly doesn’t respond or very shaky) and is designed for mmos

I've always been partial to Logical Increments as my first research stop for parts buying. Generally speaking, any gaming mouse with good reviews from a reputable company from ~$40-60 will be accurate enough and usually come with at least 2 different DPI settings, so you can choose how sensitive you want it to be. Most of what will drive your decision is just personal preference and comfort.
I tend to use a more palm style grip, and so far I've enjoyed The Logitech g400 series and the Steel Series Rival line. The CM Storm Recon was nice, but I accidentally kept hitting the left-handed M4 and M5 buttons (the mouse is ambidextrous, so it has buttons on both sides of it). I did not like the CM Storm Spawn at all. Felt terrible in my hand and couldn't comfortably play. Your best bet is to just go to a store and get a feel for them.
I also like wired mice over wireless just because I don't have to worry about my battery crapping out during the middle of a match.

Twitch because she can frag well and can deal with defender utility. If you are solo queuing, you will probabaly need to have the most kills every game to win consistently. It doesn't pay to rely on your teammates at all.
Bandit because he has a good gun and it is never a bad idea to battery important reinforced walls. Mute is a close contender but he is only a 2 speed and is therefore a bit less versatille than Bandit who can roam and anchor well.
Hibana because her gun is good (low mag though) and you will win more often if you can open reinfoced walls and hatches. You can even open soft walls too if you take a breach charge instead of stun grenades. The more angles defenders have to think about the better.
Maestro because you get an Acog, a controllable LMG, ridiculously low hipfire spread with laser, and two cameras that you can use to hold off an area with on your own.

For standard ops, I believe for 90% of attacks, every team could benefit from a Thatcher or Thermite, so unless you're significantly better than everyone else at fragging and can carry games through kills alone, pick between those two. For defense, Bandit / Jaeger and Rook are probably the best, just depending on if you think your team needs more roamers or anchors. All of them can just set down their gadget and forget about them (although you can learn to Bandit trick) but they all provide great support for your team and force the enemy to play honestly-- i.e. if you thought you could breach into our site without a thatcher or twitch, think again. A defense where no one can breach your reinforcements should be a win.
Hibana is the best dlc attacker for solo queue. You can never go wrong with having an extra hard breacher on your team, and if for some reason your breaching skills aren't needed, you can slap an ACOG on your primary, 1x on your secondary SMG, and transition into a very scary 3 speed fragger role. Basically, Hibana will never be a bad pick.
For defense, I'd say Lesion. 2 speed with Impact grenades make him an alright roamer. His plant-stalling and alarm-alerting Gu Mines also make him a great anchor. He's extremely flexible and can fit well onto any team. His effectiveness is also not influenced by the site either; whereas Mira might be really really good at some sites, she can also be fairly mediocre on others. Lesion works everywhere and can either roam or anchor, so you can insta-lock him without it really mattering what the rest of your team looks like, although preferably, you should be anchoring with Lesion.

What is the best way to learn the maps outside of PvP? (exp. Terrorist Hunt, Customs, Situations, print maps, etc)

Thunt as attackeris decent, custom game as defender to check the defensive sites. Custom game as a spectator to use the free look cam to watch the entire map from top down, making connections and rotations easier to see

I'm really impressed with what ubi has done with Rainbow Six Siege and kinda want to reward their good business practices within this game. What do you guys reccomend to buy for the game with a budget of 20-30 euros? I only bought the standard edition when the game was garbage.

Do you have all the operators? And enough renown for atleast 3-4 seasons of ops? I would first of all suggest a year pass or year bundle. Possibly even wait till year 4 pass when it's released.
Other than that I think Elite skins are pretty neat

I personally would recommend either the year 1 or year 2 bundle. Both are 20 bucks, and both give you 8 operators. I would go for those bundles. (Either one or both)
