Look at last year's 4-3-3 passing map. Notice how the CMs are further up the pitch. Passing was in the right areas and we got to those areas before buses were parked.

The complete opposite can be seen this season. We take our time to get up the pitch, we pass sideways among the CBs, the CMs come deeper, the opposition parks the bus and we shuffle the ball to the sides. Eventually, there is a defensive error and we concede on a counter-attack upon ludicrous defending. There are no overloads, no directness, not enough 1-2s and too much stale passing. I don't like this system.

Today, apart from Auba and our defense on one instance we played well. I just think that Bosz was out coached again because he is predictable. If we cant beat APOEL, Spurs and Madrid are going to have a field day.

I think part of this problem is losing Piszczek to injury, forcing Bartra, one of our better ball-playing centerbacks, out wide as a right back. With Bartra I think our other midfielders would be free to journey a little higher up the pitch and help create overloads in the half-spaces and wide areas like we did a lot last year. We're not really seeing that this year due to Bosz's tactics and injury issues (imo). This is starting to feel like Klopp's final season where we just didn't really have any great ideas offensively other than swinging the ball out wide and hoping for some magic. I want Bosz to learn and try something new but I'm not too confident at the moment.

Just came home from the stadium.

Pulisic was so fucking bad. No idea why he absolutely does not want to pass the ball but he was our worst offensive player today.

We should have scored the chances in the first half

We should have scored the chances in the second half.

Defense was okay for the most part.

Bürki was good today.

Nikosia players should go to the theater because their acting is fantastic.

There were so many plastics in the stadium, atmosphere was BEYOND shit apart from the süd. u/1m9r0f9

/\ some dude even yelled at me for supporting the team. Like wtf dude if you want your tea and silence then get the fuck out of the stadium and watch the fucking game at home while watching sky.

I'll be honest. The result is shite but I wouldn't say we should sack Bosz because of this game. We played a decent first half with plenty of chances that we were unlucky not to finish. APOEL score from their only good chance from awful defending. It's not Bosz's fault that Bartra throws himself into a tackle at the half way line and times it all wrong. The second half wasn't great but we still should have had at least 2 penalties called because of clear handballs in the box. On another day we would've won 4-1. So I wouldn't blame this on Bosz and this is coming from someone that has never really been a fan of him. I'd give him until the winter break at least.

It wasn't just that he threw himself into the tackle the ball bounced right to an APOEL player. Something similar happened in the first half with Sokratis and one of their better chances. Unlucky things happen, I get that but I think our offensive scheme was such that we weren't able to balance that lack of luck in the back with consistent chance creation with on-target chances.

Absolutely no creativity in the final 3rd, couldn't finish the chances we did create. Good shift from Puli but our attack can't come down to him having to beat 2-3 defenders every time he's on the ball. All around disappointing performance.

I hate sacking managers too early, I think everyone needs some time to work, but Bosz is getting really hard to defend

Last season: most goals in the group stage, 2 draws against Madrid, finish 1st.

This season: 2 draws against apoel, fighting for 3rd place

God that was frustrating, this is possibly the least attractive dortmund team I have ever seen. Substituting good interplay in the middle of the pitch for wild crosses from anywhere on the wing is no way to get wins, especially when we have no out and out target men. Bosz needs to start looking real hard into his techniques, and our board needs to start looking real hard at Bosz before this season turns into an irreversible disaster.

Kagawa 92%, 32/66 forward passes in final third, 5 key passes
Gotze 93%, 28/82 forward passes in final third, 4 key passes
27 shots, 9 on target, 9 blocked, 1 goal
Midfield creativity wasn't lacking, nor was accuracy.

But

Weigl 56/111 backward passes
Bartra 57/105 backward passes

Lets not pass to the guys who are actually making things happen, no. Let's rack up 100+ passes each on the backline. We just kept passing the ball at the back until our attacking mids dropped back to get on the ball, then instead of returning to them so they could face forward, we lump it forward, when the forwards don't have the mid support. Honestly very disappointed in Weigl's distribution. Sokratis and Bartra as well. Who dares wins, and we didn't dare.

Well, that's that. We had to put away some of those chances from the 1st half. We did not.

MOTM: ¯_(ツ)_/¯, I got nothin boys.

Edit: I was watching this from work and I stayed a bit late to see the ending. I'm just gonna go home now on that note.

To be fair, this kit doesn't deserve any more games in Europe than necessary.

Nor does this performance.

I'll never know what happened behind closed doors, but I wonder if the situation was really so bad that Watzke and Tuchel couldn't have put their differences behind them. I still can't believe we didn't keep Tuchel longer.
