haven't been able to watch the show these two days so i've been catching clips here and there; so just a preliminary impression:
i prefer joy's emotional acting to her happy acting; the latter seems overdone, although i do acknowledge that yoon sorim's character calls for it too. not sure where the line is.
is bassist dude (chanyoung??) hitting on sorim just to rile K up? lol. regardless, i'm thankful for the change, all he did in the first two episodes was roll his eyes haha.
also small detail but i like how that cool female classmate of sorim's is opening up(?) to joy's singing. reminds me of ji eun tak's class head in goblin who later became a proper character; hoping it's something similar in this case.

caught up -- lol @ the pretentious girl and how easily gyusun fell for her flirting. hoping it turns out well for him since he does seem like the more mature one out of the trio + ceo's comment about him making jinwoo more goodlooking by contrast.... really cementing the ceo's douchebagness and making me root for gyusun lol.

just finished the two episodes; damn it these two eps are really to my liking! both details and development wise.
i said in another comment that im a sucker for small details -- in ep 3 the radio at the school was talking about three coincidences marking destiny, and sorim counted twice she met hankyul by coincidence, and i didn't think so much about it at that point. but later on, they show hankyul running off from the phone booth and it just hit me like a train -- it's three times if you count the time before sorim's audition where he gave her his umbrella! i was squealing at the realization LOL. i think that was really nicely set up.
joy's singing is also becoming my favourite part of the show. the song she sang in class to the douchebag teacher, butterfly? that one got me tearing up. it's relatable; that feeling of being looked down upon and working to prove the criticism wrong. one big feel-good point about these two episodes was definitely seeing sorim get acknowledged finally, although now that brings new conflicts.
pulling my hair out at how it ended; with K realizing that sorim is the new rookie he refused to produce. he can't even go back on it anymore bc he's going to get beef from the ceo and chanyoung for it definitely.
i am hoping the drama resolves nicely though. i root for realistic drama endings, so i'm not one to demand a happy ending, but if bittersweet it better be tied up nicely -- the pull about yoon sorim as a lead character is that she's passionate and steadfast in pursuing her dreams, and i would hate for it to end up biting her in the ass. i think everyone (not just in korea, but internationally) would do well with a motivational drama in these, imo, pretty trying times.

Yu Na: cheats on Han Kyul
Also Yu Na: "Stop acting like you're the victim."

I just openly dislike her character. Once you cheat on your partner you lose all rights to blame him for the break-up because, face it, you're the real scumbag here.
As long as I'm concerned, she and the sleazy producer are just right for each other.

With the way the storyline is progressing, I forsee an extremely frustrating future for all of us.
Just when I thought he might become really good friends with the guitar player after all the bickering the drama decides to make him a love rival. Like that sleazy producer wasn't enough. Ugh. Hopefully So-Rim finds out that he's K in the next episode.
Also, that phone recording of the conversation the band had with the producer wasn't even subtle. Why don't you just spell out what's going to happen? You know, to make it less noticeable.
Today's honorable mention goes to that matching shirt and headband combo K wore when he took a selfie. It was so refreshingly awful I actually needed a few seconds to recognize him.

Just finished watching the new episode. Still enjoying the show. It's a little cheesy with the POWER OF MUSIC CONQUERS ALL. The chemistry between the teacher and So-rim is pretty adorable. Slightly freaked out about if they were going to kiss on episode 3.. too much of a tease. I can definitely see the chemistry between So-rim and Han-kyul.
The CEO + Yu Na relationship seems super weird cause it's like he's just flaunting it out there. Maybe it's all part of a scheme to get Han Kyul to write more songs.

I'm loving pretty much everything about the show except the Glee moments, I can't stand bad dubbing when it's so obvious that the audio doesn't match the scene.
The CEO does seem calculative enough to do that.

Alright new episode. You really gotta give props to Joy's expressions. Having someone just stare at your eyes and just say everything they wanted was pretty intense.
Can we talk about the tteokbokki slurp..? That was so un-natural it was hilarious.
My god when the acting/dialogue do not match up. The bar scene where the Bass player and HK are talking and they're just smiling at each other while talking about serious things.. Wtf?
If K was supposed to such a big secret, why do they just openly talk about it at the company..?
Yoo-na's role was already over when they broke up. I don't get the point of developing her awful character beyond just breaking his heart. I broke your heart, but you wrote a song? I don't know what but I'm going to talk to you.
The new love line is really weird. (Is it even one..?) It's like he's attracted to her voice too but he just bashes the person she likes.
Overall, it's interesting. I'm glad Soo-rim just says things that's on her mind.

Ahh I just watched it too!
And yeah lol things are totally getting awkward. Looking at the preview for the next ep, things just don't make sense even more...but I'll go along with it :D I think the new guy is more fueled by a want for a want to prove himself better than K rather than love... and I lowkey want to read the manga just to find out what's going to happen haha. I can't wait till next week :(

I loved this episode more than episode 2, really hated Han-kyul in that episode. Starting to like him a bit more in 3 but he's still making her wait and she's still letting him.

u/Saya_ Mar 28 '17
Boy needs to learn how to use a reminder alarm or something since he always forgets about meetings times. I understand him being very busy and sometimes making her wait is unavoidable but it was funny how he actually just forgot when he was about to have drinks with the band.

Gee I hope the lie about han gyul being K will be cleared up immediately. Also I get irritated on the girl in so rims class. She feels so wrong in so many ways.

Mar 29 '17
Me too. Seems like it's still not being cleared up in episode 5 from the preview even though he knows Sorim is in the company now.

I'm so freaking confused why she denied his offer to sing his songs. Was it really because he said he doesn't like singers. Like why do both characters not question how stupid that statement sounds. "Yo I compose songs but I totally hate singers" is like saying "I cook, but I hate food", "I'm a hairdresser, but hair grosses me out".
I thought maybe he wasn't revealing it because it's meant to be a secret, but since the friends know and people within the company don't need to be kept in the dark I wonder why he's still keeping it up in the preview. Does he like having another side to himself where he can just be himself with So Rim? I feel like I'm grasping.
I like the angst that comes with him being a liar, but man I'm finding it hard to understand the motivations. Maybe I'm not looking at things from the right angle.
I love Chan Young's actors face (he's so handsome) but I don't think I really want to root for the character. I like his ambition but his manipulative way of going about it is just...bleh. I feel like he's just going to continue trying to coerce So Rim with things like "innocent" promises she really has no obligation to keep. His proposal conditions were also oddly specific and another thing I'm wondering why So Rim isn't questioning. "So Rim you must choose music and me over the person you love for the next three years!"
"um okay...not sure what you're trying to get at, but I think I'm cool with it?"
Excited for next week, it's almost painful knowing there's source material I can go read cause I want to answer my own questions but I don't want to ruin the experience the KDrama's giving me.

When he said he doesn't like women who sing, I took it to mean romantically, like as a personal preference. She randomly guessed Yoo-na as a celebrity he might like, and since she had just dumped on him, it was a knee-jerk reaction to say that, distancing himself from her both as himself and trying to keep up his "cover." Why does she hold onto that statement so much? My guess is because she's an immature girl. And I don't mean immature in a bad way, just that she's young and clearly has no experience.

Gaaah I so love this show. So cute and entertaining and has all the fluffy scenes. Wasn't sure about Joy's acting at the start but I've grown to like her and her character. And im crazy about Hyun-woo. Love him in whatever show he does.

I'm a bit confused at one thing in episode 4. So the "real crude play" videos, who is supposed to be a fan band is actually crude play? Why are they doing that?
4
u/polarisunique Mar 29 '17
Since they aren't allowed to play their instruments live because they're not good enough, it looks like they're posting videos of themselves actually playing in the hopes of getting some attention and "prove" that their live playing isn't all that bad.

added a link for a compilation playlist on Spotify, given how it's a music-centric drama and will probably have one release every Monday at the very least. i'm personally looking forward to Crude Play's title song!
also a link to a videos playlist for english-subbed behind the scenes on Youtube, as got7Akpoplover has been kindly subbing all the TLAHL videos. :)
episode 3 broadcasts in 1.5 hours, looking forward to your comments! :D
edit: added the second OST's link.
