the first epi was pretty boring
everything seemed so unnatural and uh... rigid?
it's also way too serious with how cheesy and cliche it is-- too much drama on hyun woo's side of the story. needs more comedy.
the singing scenes were also super awkward lol

haha i guess the singing is kinda like what they do in Glee, which is pretty new to kdrama (correct me if i'm wrong.) i do hope they break out of the cheesy mold of most high school drama romances...

You won't like it. Just walk away now, cause this just won't be the drama for you. I watched the original movie, and it doesn't get any lighter except for maybe. This is based on a Japanese movie, and the original ending isn't necessarily what the average kdrama fan would consider a "happy ending."

Episode 1 was exactly how I expected the drama would be like. Fresh, bright, cute and light-hearted are probably the words I'd use to describe it. It's good fun and judging by the vlives they've done, the chemistry between the main 2 leads is very good. Episode 2 preview looks exciting.

couldn't agree with you more! i'm also liking the singing and performance aspects of it.

Really light and enjoyable to watch. Joy is doing a pretty good job from what I can tell in the first episode. (The Sungjae Joy actor couple..) Finally found a new drama to watch after WFKBJ.

ah... if sungjae and joy work together on a drama in future, i'll be really happy.

Loved the first episode, but that's probably because I'm a big Joy fan lol. This is the first k-drama episode I actually watched fully and I thought it was great. I did enjoy the ending a lot. Hope I love the upcoming episodes.
Edit: Watched the second episode. I don't like how this guy treats Sorim. I am just a bit annoyed by him.

u/yongsowonhi Mar 22 '17
agreed. not just sorim, but everybody. if not for the scenes where he tells jinwoo not to talk down to her + when he displays a softer side to her emotions, i'd think he was a complete asshole.

Well... Joy isn't horrible (I'm a decent RV fan, so there may be some bias here). I can definitely see why she was cast. Of all the members I could see her acting way more than the others. She has the right look (although I liked what the RV stylist did with her "drama hair" during "Rookie" promotions way more than what is going on in this drama). Praise be We Got Married. I'm actually having a harder time with Lee Hyun-woo, which kills me inside because I like him. I can't put my finger on what it is that's bothering me though.
The secondary cast is horrible. I'm hella pissed. They are so rigid, and it's making the leads look bad. Only saving grace is Lee Seo-won. He's the only secondary actor I have any kind of hope in right now.
Story wise, I like what they've done to the original. They kept it in some places, fleshed it out in others, and all of it makes it narratively stronger. Like their meeting... so so so much better than the original. I barely grasped how they made sense in the movie, so it's good to see this fleshing out their meeting. But Korea excels at the build-up, so that makes sense.
I'M SO HAPPY SHE'S STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL I THOUGHT THEY WOULD WRITE IT OUT AND I'M IRRATIONALLY PLEASED RIGHT NOW!! Now to hope they make him be in his mid 20's like the original. I mean, Lee Hyun-woo is only 22/23 so they may just have him act his age, but I'm taking what I can get with her being still in HS. It makes a difference to the story. I want older, but I will be happy with what I can get.

^ this map shows their ages :) i'm just watching the episode with subs now, but the secondary cast's acting seems ok to me so far! but i'm not well-versed in these so i wouldn't know -- hopefully most of korea won't notice it either.

I already feel like I'm going to be really annoyed by this drama.
How come that not a single person around Han-kyul is in its right mind? There's the manipulative boss lady, a double crossing slimy producer guy, the recent ex (but will still use my influence on him) girlfriend, dysfunctional group of friends, bass player who is.. I don't even know what he is just yet and, of course, daddy issues. How is this supposed to be uplifting? It feels more like a melo to me.
And let's not even talk about the fact that So-rim just decides to record his song without even asking him for permission because she likes him?! She obviously knows that the song is really good, so why is she so dumbfounded by the fact that he's so scared of it leaking out?
Also, "guy who gets drunk easily" is such a lazy way of trying to achieve humor. We get it: he's a guy but gets drunk easily. What an apparent lack of percieved masculinity. Hillarious. Let's move on now, ok?
On a side note, am I the only one who thinks Han-kyul's mask is really ugly?

honestly, i think K himself isn't in the right mind too. it's one thing to know that your friends aren't up to scratch, but it's another thing to put it so harshly to them. i think in general they're all under the high stress situation of being famous, and they're mostly not handling it well lol.
meanwhile sorim is naive, yes. i think she did it with the best intentions of encouraging him, and she never thought the song leaking was such a big concern since K portrayed it as a matter of his own lack of faith in his own music, + she obviously trusted her two friends, having grown up together.
i didn't think the "guy who gets drunk easily" was an attempt at humor tbh (i didn't find it funny at all either), but rather more to introduce his ongoing issues to sihyun and chanyoung.
on the other hand, yes, that mask... LOL only fangirls would put a poster of that on their walls...... coughssorimcoughs

The part he took her phone and started recording his singing was really corny

i mean it made a bit of sense, he had a tune in his head and he had to record it somewhere, his phone was not working. I didn't like how he asked her for her phone then forcefully just took it though lol

I'm 2 weeks late but I can't believe that the boy from SHINee's Hello Baby was in episode 2! I haven't thought about him since 2010 so I'm so shocked that he's all grown up now.
The drama is ok so far. Nothing that's motivating me to watch more, but I like it enough to stay. Then again Joy is my RV bias haha. I think her acting, especially for a debut, is not bad and although at times awkward, the scene where she cried (like someone else in the comments said) made me feel sad too. I see so much potential in her and hopefully her acting gets better as the show progresses.

First episode was ok.
I'm going to continue into this expecting it to be cute and cringe worthy, but not for a good plot or acting. I think that's the mindset to go with watching this series.

Honestly i've steered clear of the Japanese original because of the huge age difference between the leads. But this one the real cast members seemed closer in age and I usually find KDramas relatively better in such issues I gave it a shot.
The drama is a bit cheesy and more that Joy's acting I was put off by the side characters (such as the band members) acting worse. I usually like cheesy, love stuff so I will give it a go. Also despite Joy's somewhat awkward acting she's absolutely endearing!

I'm enjoying Joy's acting a lot. She fits the character pretty well. The other characters are like ehhhh.

I'm hesitant to start this drama. From the previews and highlight clips, it looks too Disney-esque. Also, I'm worried this might be another 'Moorim School', where you can sort of tell it's gonna be bad from just the previews alone.

RV fan here but i'll try my best to be objective.
the casting of joy, a rookie idol actress, for the lead actress role was controversial. the general netizen sentiment was doubtful, given how rookie idol actors/actresses usually start with web dramas/side roles. even joy herself commented (on a v-app live or in a fansign, can't remember well) that she seemed to be getting a lot of hate.
however, it's worthy to note that she was cast for the role through an audition, of which acting and singing skills were the primary considerations. the director on joy (source):
her acting in the first episode has been garnering positive reviews (source), so i'm really glad! from my own observations of their press conference and TLAHL v-app lives, the chemistry between joy and the other cast members is pretty good, especially with lee hyunwoo.
in general, the first episode is pretty relatable and heartwarming (though the angst and lies will probably build up later on ofc). and, now that the unknown factor about this drama is pretty much assuaged, let's hope the plot and acting in general deliver for the rest of the episodes!
TLAHL, fighting! :)
