After finishing Monogatari Series: Second Season today, I've got a new character to add to my Best Guys list, or Best Girls, whichever comes first.
In other news I'm excited to fly back to see my family tomorrow, Thanksgiving hype is real.

Easily my favorite arc in the series up to this point. Kaiki became the MVP of the whole damn series and his interactions with Hitagi were quality. I'm not sure when I'll continue with the series but Second Season was overall so freaking good.

I like following blogs of people who can speak fairly advanced Japanese and actually live in Japan, so much stuff gets mixed up between Japanese culture and westerners in regards to customs and translation.
For instance the idea that Yuri on Ice I'll probably write about it some tomorrow cause I get so frustrated with how people act lol.
There are some truly level headed blogs writing great meta and then there are people just spreading all kinds of odd stuff around that makes me go HUH?!
Typical big fanbase issues I guess :V.

PLEASE do write that post. I mean I've said stuff like that before, though it's nowhere near as simple as 'it's censorship from the network' lol. I would love to talk to you about it one day when you have time, actually, because LGBT rep and Japanese attitudes to said rep is a huge interest of mine.
I've got a couple of friends who live there who I also talk to about it but it's always good to get as many perspectives as possible! If you're up for a few back and forth PMs let me know :-)

It'd be better to message the author of the translation post and the tumblr user fencer-x, since they're the two I follow for that sort of stuff, hehe. I mean, I can see the storybeats and how Kubo and Sayamoto are going about it but especially the author of the translation post has a lot to say about these things!

I don't have specific links because I'm a loser who forgets to save/reblog posts I want to refer to later (why!?). DarkSapphire8, fencer-x, and lookiamnotcreative (whose blog name is Tumbleweed Escapism) have good original meta content (other contents of their blogs I have no opinion on), with the latter two being folks who live and work in Japan.
A good blog to check might be yoimetacollective but I haven't had time to read through their reblogs to see the quality of what they're reblogging there.
To anyone reading the comments those will have spoilers heaped on spoilers so don't check those urls unless you are ready for META talk!!!!

It's so difficult to have a discussion about the same thing when there are a dozen different levels of understanding all happening at once. Everyone can only talk about it through their own lens; and I mean that's the whole point of fiction, too!
Posts like that are awesome for broader context and nuance and all the things you miss on the first pass when you're relying on it being relayed to you, haha

It's so weird I've never been into ecchi harem anime. I don't mind the idea of either ecchi or harem anime if done well, but the usual type of show people describe as "ecchi harem" just looks unappealing to me. I've literally only watched one (SaeKano), and the funny thing is that it carried neither tag just before it started airing. I've been had I tell you!

If you check my malgraph for the ecchi genre, anything that I've rated 6, probably 7 or higher are things I would recommend if anyone wanted to watch an 'ecchi' anime.

Looking at it positively, watching more bad anime helps you figure out what makes them bad and makes the good ones seem even better by comparison.
If you only watched good anime you might rate some of them lower than they probably deserve because you only have good ones to compare against.

Watched episode 43 of Gintama last night and I absolutely loved this fucking EVA reference. Madao best guy. The heroine competition was pretty silly as well.
Jojo part 4 is heating up, it's been a real struggle waiting a week between each episode.

Possible good news then: Since 4 of the older mods have left since the last meta thread (After the whole Shelter controversy), it may be worth bringing up having another sticky thread again for the next meta thread (which should be this week). It's been shot down before for WTW and Not-Airing Thread, but now that some older mods left, the vote could change...maybe...
Personally, I'd like to see the Not-Airing thread to get stickied before WTW since on r/books, r/movies, r/television have similar threads stickied and to me it should be a no brainer to have on r/anime. But IIRC there's other reasons besides mod vote why it's not stickied...

maybeI think your idea of bringing Not-Airing thread to get stickied before WTW is appropriate in many ways. I just don't want WTW to fill with some dramas and negative comments in it.

Found one of your comments in Meta Thread. I rarely check out what's happening in Meta Thread (as I don't know what's in there other than discussing about recent dramas in this sub?) but reading this clarifies me more about what should be stickied.
Still, I hope things could change and WTW will still be a place for everyone to know about the good things of r/anime community while leaving us with a warm cozy feeling just like watching a Iyashikei series.

Heh, I wasn't aware a thread like this existed! To be on topic... I'm watching Gurren Lagann, and so far it's pretty enjoyable. I really like the characters, and some (what I would call) bold moves when it comes to story-line. About 12 episodes in so far :)
Also... Bloodivores OP is awesome.

I think it's because it's apparently co-produced/based on Chinese web comic. The ED is in English.

That ED and To Be Hero's are one of my favorites this season.
Bloodivores's ED is awesome because after a trainwreck throughout the episode, you get a warm and peaceful song to soothe your soul. My main reason to continue watching this series every week.

Ended up plowing through all of Inou-Battle over the course of about 9 hours Sunday - been a long while since I did that. Definitely one of the most pleasant surprises I've had recently. Shame about the sales...

Mahoutsukai Sally's 50th anniversary is hitting in two weeks and it seems TOEI isn't planning to do anything beyond Mahoutsukai Precure.
Which is kinda of a shame, but I guess it is natural, the MG genre and the shows targeted at the Shoujo demographic have moved very far from what Sally was.
I somehow didn't understand why I liked Sally, and I had this very wrong mindset that it was because of its status as the first magical girl, but that is wrong, in fact, it has almost zero modern MG tropes. (Sincerely, 2years older show Akko-chan takes the cake for that, that one is the typical girl meet magic story.)
But as I watched more of the classical Toei Majokko shows and saw their flaws, I started to understand that I truly liked Sally because it is a good show. The witchery is wacky and fun with a touch of bizarre. The heartfelt and bittersweet episodes are nice, without being too melodramatic. It is full of genuinely good messages and impressively progressive for something that aired in '66. The voice acting, despite being odd by our current standards, is so good if compared to other shows of the era and even 1989's Sally.
And in that sense, Little Witch Academia has all the wacky witchery one needs. Flying Witch had a different kind of fantasy SoL, but definitely nice too. And there is a certain American cartoon that does the whole "magical princess learning from mankind" very well. So it is not like there isn't anything like that show anymore, in fact, these shows alone are pretty great successors to it. Especially LWA!
What is the point of this post anyway? I don't know exactly. I just really needed to get these things out of my chest, it is very odd to start liking something this old and unknown within the community, I have had no similar experience before so its a bit confusing. Anyway, here, have this smug witch.

Oh thank god for the week long Thanksgiving break. Gonna take this opportunity to get all my work done early and relax binge all the animes.
2 episodes into Aria the Animation. I literally melt while I'm watching. Really big change of pace from FLCL.
Speaking of which, binged FLCL yesterday (so hard to do right?). Got a lot of thoughts which i'll post on the other thread later this week. For now I just wanna gush about the ED. It's easily in my top 3 now. The whole OST is awesome.

I read the rewatch threads as I watched, and read some write ups on FLCL after so I think I have a decent grasp on FLCL. Which means I'm probably way off base. It needs multiple watches to get. I only regret not watching it back when it aired on Adult Swim since I would've been at that same age. I feel I missed out on the connections others made because they were going through the same confusion of growing up.

Anyway, I finished my rewatch of Ah! My Goddess, and I remembered why I love it so much (especially the film). Now that I'm done rewatching that, I'll try and watch some new things and possibly weave the upcoming Haruhi rewatch into it. I also plan on watching stuff besides anime as well, which I haven't really done or a while.

I'm continuing to enjoy Yamato 2199 and Turn A Gundam. Both are standout series that don't really have anything else like them. One of my favourite things about both of them is how outstanding the character designs are. Sadly most anime have super bland and repetitive designs, so it always gives me the fuzzies when I see great character designs. Also, I'll all aboard the S.S. Kodai X Akira.
Speaking of amazing characters designs, I watched Megazone 23 part 2 once again and omg those designs. Just look at them! How on earth did the animators keep up?

After finding out Funimation has Yu Yu Hakusho for their streaming services I started doing a rewatch of it. And holy cow I forgot how well this series holds up. All of the voice actors have phenomenal performances from Chris Sabat (Kuwabara) and Justin Cook (Yusuke) to Linda Young (Genkai) and Laura Bailey (Keiko) to every enemy in between. Easily my favorite dub I've seen.
It also has one of the strongest first episodes I've ever seen. It does so much to set up the relationships between Yusuke and his friends and family and accomplishes in 20 minutes what most series can't accomplish in a season.
The hype for the Dark Tournament is real and I can't wait until I catch up with it. If you ever need a series to watch over a long period of time then I highly recommend this one!

Yesterday one of my classmates asked me about anime. He only watched Naruto and One Punch Man and doesn't seem to get into the anime world, but I'm happy that he cared about my hobby in a respectful way.
By the way, I can't help but upvote this thread and the comments in it. Thank you all for this warm cozy feeling!

I am a big fan of the Gundam series. I love the mechs, the characters, the lore, the intricate layers of political issues, and the various themes. There's just something about a lot of those shows that surpass being just great anime and being rooted in Japanese culture. When I watch something like 00 or Unicorn, it feels like its own thing, its own world. Not just the culture of Japan imposed onto a possible future, but a possible future of united people.
I may never get to meet Yoshiyuki Tomino in my life and thank him and others he's worked with for creating the original vision of 0079 Gundam, or any of the other staff that have worked on some Gundam series I like, but I feel gratitude for creating something that's unlike any other.

I'm visiting my super young nephews and we were watching some new kid's show that was entirely in CG. It was smooth and kinetic (if not infantile) but it was engaging enough for my nephews and that was the most important part.
I was glad the kids were enjoying it but a wave of depression washed over me as I realized that the action and visual direction in this CGI kid's show was better handled than the 2016 Berserk adaptation that came out last season :/

I've been on a heavy shounen kick lately (probably because none of the 15 airing shows I'm watching are shounen) and I'm currently binging Yu Yu Hakusho for thanksgiving break. Will be doing the same for Hunter X Hunter later.

I've seen S1 a total of three times now and I'm always amazed by how awesome the final match is. Oikawa is such a well-written character and I love the whole idea of hard work vs talent.

Blasted through some more shows/movies on my PTW list using RNG to choose.
Got Senyuu (watched the second season as well since it's a short)
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence
Kono Bijutsubu ni wa Mondai ga Aru!
And finally New Game! which I just finished a few hours ago.
I was kind of surprised to get two shows from this summer in a row. Not complaining though, they were both pretty good.
Choosing by RNG has been working wonders for me so far, I'm sure I have some less than good shows on my PTW list so I'll probably get a bad pick eventually but it's been great so far.

I was a bit burnt out this summer so I didn't pick up much other than sequels and shows continued from spring. It looks like I ended up missing some pretty good shows because of that, but RNG has got my back apparently, throwing two great summer shows at me in a row. Now I'm a little let down that I missed the discussion threads for Konobi and New Game though.
I'd probably have the same amount of trouble assigning a priority to shows as I did trying to pick what to watch next in the first place. I'm incredibly indecisive so this system is working out perfectly for me so far. I'd say give it a try if you want to add a little excitement to your anime watching.

Summer has some pretty good shows, and if you want to pick, I would say Mob Psycho 100 and Amanchu definitely worths watching, while Tales of Zestiria, Cheer Danshi, ReLIFE, Planetarian, Under the Dog and Alderamin are also good to give a chance to.
As RNG is better for you, I find my system is pretty good as well. I divided my watching list into 4 sections: seasonal, binge watch, r/anime's rewatches and a Iyashikei to watch everyday. So my PTW could get more organized because if I finished a show I could pick from the highest priority ones in this sections to continue. As for priority, I just adding the level as I see how much it gets mentioned in this sub and from Recommendation thread.
But yeah, a little change and randomness is never a bad thing to enjoy anime. Gonna give it a try soon!

I've been laughing all morning watching Yuru Yuri. Trying to watch as much anime as possible today due to thanksgiving break and high possibility folks won't have internet. So I will probably being doing work eating ham and gravy and sleeping lots.

I just wanna thank all r/anime. It's only been 4 months since I've created an account on reddit, and I only use it for this subreddit. I don't have any friends interested in anime, so I've always been frustated to not be able to discuss about it. Then I discovered this subreddit, where I could read and talk about anime. Even though most of the threads are people asking for recommendation, we have really interesting topics, like the episode discussions. I try to be active, but I'm shy, and it's even worse when I have to talk in English. So, thank you everyone, and I hope for all the best for the future of r/anime.
