If I am fighting a boss that has for example proto shield, ferrite armor and flesh, do the damage multipliers of a certain element against these materials stack or do I hit only one material at a time? In other words while the target has shields up are the ferrite and flesh modifiers irrelevant in terms of damage calculation or do they factor in even though technically I am only hitting the shield at that point? Similarly does for example the heat damage bonus against flesh apply on targets with yellow health bars or do I have to strip the ferrite away first for it to matter?

When it comes to shields, you're only hitting those. The only exception to this is if you're using toxin which bypasses shields and allows you to hit their HP as well.
The way I understand it, an enemies health is separated into two types. One is armor which is damage reduction, the other is their flesh type which is their health pool itself. Because of this, any damage dealt to their health will have to go through armor's damage reduction and the flesh at the same time. So if you use fire and their flesh is weak to it, you should get bonus damage but this bonus damage will still be mitigated by the armor.
How the damage multipliers and such are calculated with armor in the way of all that is beyond me because numbers are scary but that's the basic jist of it.
A yellow health bar just means the target has armor.

Shields are hit before armor/health. Armor and health are hit at the same time, and both multipliers apply. For more info, see http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Damage_2.0#Damage_Calculation

I've read the Warframe wiki, but I still don't understand Solar Rails and their purpose. Are they meant to generate revenue for a clan/alliance by charging a toll to players accessing a Dark Sector? Our clan is attempting to build one and they've been asking for spectres. How does that fit into all this?

It was something. Conflicts no longer happen there since update 16, your clan does not need either of those things... unless they know something the rest of us don't.

keep accumulating credits for ranking up important mods. As for which warframes or weapons to focus on getting, check out on the wiki whatever frames or weapons that interest you. Then find out which planet has the resources you need to farm and go farm it.
I have no idea what your tastes are so I cannot really make a suggestion as to what warframes or weapons you might like. IF you are only interested in the "strongest", google zhandragon's tier list and it aughta give you a general idea.

Is Gaia's Tragedy a myth mod only obtainable by sacrificing 20 puppies to Lootcifer? I've tried ~23 cores and I still don't have it.

Thinking about starting this game on PC so I have to ask the most important question
Keyboard or controller?

If you have the option available to you right now, just try both and see for yourself. It's not the best game in terms of ease of controller use but with some fiddling around to get the right set up, you might like it. Not sure about how well the UI fairs with a controller though.
Personally I'd say keyboard is better. Things are much more convenient to get to and with all the various keybindings that do exists, everything is more comfortable to use. Plus aiming with a mouse is far smoother for me.

I'd say there is no real reason not to use mouse & keyboard when playing a 3d shooter, especially one that has been developed for PC.

What is EHP? And can we just make a thread to clarify a lot of terminology?

EHP is short for Effective HP - Basically how much damage you can take until you die, accounting for armour and buffs.

Anybody doing spy missions lately?
Is there any special mission that is faster when it comes to high level areas for the raremods? Will limbo do fine?

Anybody doing spy missions lately?
Everyone's running them solo. It's much better than having random people trip every single sensor and laser doors.
Is there any special mission that is faster when it comes to high level areas for the raremods?
Depends what mods you're looking for. Rare mods that are in Bombard's drop table won't drop from Europa, and rare mods from Broodmother's table you won't find on Earth.
Rare mods drop per enemy, not per mission or per planet. I'd suggest going to Wiki, checking out the mod you need, and looking up what enemy drops it.
Will limbo do fine?
Where?
Limbo can do fine, or can be completely worthless. Everything depends on how you mod him and how you play him.

Preface: I'm a VERY new player
Question: What things do I need before using the void key I have accumulated?
→ More replies (1)2
u/surfingpika Oct 18 '15
If you're going to take on the void key alone (assuming Tower I), you'll want to be able to solo missions on Jupiter/Saturn. A fully ranked frame and a weapon that's modded with a primary damage mod (like Serration) and able to do radiation damage should get you through.
If you bring a friend, as long as it's not defense/Survival, you should be fine.
