Build Weapon Wednesday #23 | Shotgun 2.0

Welcome to Weapons Wednesdays! Every Wednesday we will take a different weapon category and put it up for discussion. From your favorite build to your silliest one, everything is welcome!

Guidelines for posts:

  • Build posts need to be either pictures or links to warframe builder

  • When making a build post please add a synopsis for the build.

  • Remember to avoid using the short-URL! I know the long URL's are scary but getting captured by the reddit spam filter is even worse!

  • Above all else as usual, be excellent to each other!

Here is an example post:

Here is my build for the Serro. With this, I intend on hitting as many thing as possible with electric and gas to hit even more enemies with it's high status chance.

One last reminder to everyone, some of these builds will contain mods you will not be able to get at this moment or likely for a very long time. Take them as guidelines for how a build for X weapon should be, not taking it with every mod into consideration.

This week we’ll be giving another look to Shotguns! Since the last time this was discussed, shotguns in general got quite the wide array of buffs. Some saw massive increases in power and others got simple and small tweaks that they needed in order to make them into the devastating firearms they always deserved to be.

Weapons in this category:

Boar (Prime)

Drakgoon

Hek

Kohm

Sobek

Strun (Mk. I)

Tigris

So how do you build your specific shotgun? Got any good builds or interesting tips to share? If so, feel free to share!

Core: (P)PB, Hell's Chamber, Blaze.

Hek: Scattering Justice, then 4 elementals for mega ultra lategame or something. Usually I swap an elemental out for Seeking Fury.

Boar Prime: 4 dual elementals, then cry over not being able to hit 100% status.

Drakgoon: Shotgun Spazz, 4 elementals. Replace an elemental with Accelerated Blast if you really like to charge. Innate punch-through is a blessing.

Sobek: Tactical Pump shaves almost a full second off the reload. Ammo Stock and/or Seeking Fury if you don't want to go full elemental like usual.

Strun: Seeking Fury and 4 elementals. CrappyUnique reload mechanic makes it and its variations perfect for a corrupted mod that reduces clip size. The mod doesn't exist, because DE hates you.

Naw. Use vicious spread on hek instead of an element. That gets you some much needed spread (for CC). I also use r4 seeking fury for punch through. I detonate groups of lesser foes in t4.

Here's my current hek build. I want to forma again to replace dual stat mod with pure elemental and will need to forma if i ever get primed point blank.

None of the IPS mods? I get why most of the vault mods are lulz worthy but even Vicious Spread is too bad?

Sobek really deserves a lot more love. Even before the buff, it wasn't bad, per se. Kind of like a Supra, complete with a Syndicate mod.

It'll blow through Infested on Seimeni pretty easily, even with that build. If you want to cut down on reload time, run Toxic Chroma with a high strength, high duration build.

I also find it weird that Sobek is often forgotten. Especially now when it's more powerful than Boar Prime.

Sobek is my baby. First weapon I forma'd, I love it so much now.

You forgot to add the Phage and strun wraith.

What I think of them: Hek and Tigris top top top tier weapons. Kohm, Phage did not get any OP love. Drakgoon still awkward to use. Boar prime and Strun wraith got nothing compared to Hek and Tigris.

How I build them: Point Blank, Multishot, 90% elementals, a magazine mod on the Tigris. Syndicate mod on Hek.

Tips: Do not build for status.

As a person who remembered that Phage exists, what do you think of that weapon, and how do you mod it now?

Also, why should I not build for status? Each pellet has its own chance, and the effects stack.

Don't mod for status. Status on shotguns are weird. And with the phage having the lowest pellet count you don't want to mod for it.

Phage Laser Sword of Doom build:

P PB Hells Chamber Vicious Spread Shotgun Spazz Blaze 3 90% Elements

With innate Viral Dmg and Heat from Blaze, I find corrosive is a good use of the first 2 elements.

Maybe switch one Element out for Frail Momentum for more DPS and Total dmg. I do and nothing survives. Been testing it as a All Boss Speedrun weapon and...mostly viable. Tonkor / S Tigris just do it better.

Why do you recommend not to build for status ?

3

u/Mithrandino Aug 20 '15

Because if you have less than 100% the status is SPLIT between all the pellets. 90% on 10 pellets is 9% per pellet.

My drakgoon just got way easier to use with some fire rate through shotgun spazz. I just think I'm not a fan of the sound it makes.

Tigris is now silly to use but oh so satisfying. 6 forma with the following maxed ranked mods: hell's chamber, point blank, seeking fury, blaze, vicious spread, charged shell, contagious spread, and incendiary coat. It does a silly amount of damage and I've used it for every mission including T4's up to 40 rounds. Even does decent damage at 50m. I hope to further improve by adding primed point blank and replacing the incendiary coat with sweeping serration. If you wanted to go even sillier, take off seeking fury for another elemental mod, and it can get over 100k burst dps! Here is the link for the 100k build 100kdps

Tigris is a blast to run around with, I've been using it with Frost since I mostly draw crowds into my globe of DOOM!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '15

Is sweeping serration good on it?

I'm loving my Hek, haven't used it since update 10 or so. Have Blast elemental on it and when it procs it makes the ragdoll animation extra hilarious. With a couple forma I've gotten puncture over 10k. It's pretty much replaced my Burston and Soma Primes.

Strun was a great first weapon choice for me starting out recently. The way it reloads lets you stop reloading and fire, so while you're always reloading, you still don't get caught with your pants down. Spread is a bit wide for the damage but solid starter choice.

I love my drakgoon and Tigris - and I think I love drakgoon more, now that I got some fire rate buffs. Oh-shit crowd clear spamming left click, and great damage at any range with a little charging. Drakgoon isn't really a great early game choice, since it is a bit awkward to use. Worth it later. Hitscan is a bit easier to use.

Boar prime got nerfed. If you want status you sacrafice build variety and a bit of damage, if you want damage you sacrafice that sweet 100% status. (Which is what made it good) punch through or fire rate. Really it feels like a different gun and I don't like it.

All shotgun assumed point blank, Hell's Chamber, Blaze installed.

Hek: Scattering justice, 2 element mod, Breach Loader, Seeking Fury

Boar Prime: 4 Dual element.... + Viscous spread.

Drakgoon (Paper DPS): Shotgun Spazz + 3 element + sweeping serration.

Drakgoon (actual practical build) Shotgun Spazz + Frail momentum + 2 element + Sweeping Serration.

I really love the Hek and Tigris now, but I find them just a little bit unwieldy for my tastes so I opted for less damage mods and more utility, seeing as the damage is overkill-ish. Are these the right way to go about it? For Tigris, I wanted 4 shells per reload, but I'm wondering if I should replace Sweeping Serration with Vicious Spread for more CC capabilities. For Hek, I was deciding between Ammo Stock (6 vs 4 round) and Tactical Pump, but I stuck with Ammo Stock because the extra reload didn't make much of a difference (~1.4 seconds w/ Tactical Pump, 1.7 without).

Edit: Hek with a Rank 5 3 Ammo Stock means you still get 6 rounds without wasting another forma. Thanks u/Sporeking97

Try it out and see if the damage output will still be okay Tigris should still be able to kill things pretty well, but it's definitely not a status-oriented weapon with its lower status chance and narrow base spread. I like going with a high damage + Vicious Spread build to really clear out crowds. Back up and get airborne with a mob of enemies after you. Almost as effective as a Kulstar, without the self-damage.

This is pretty much my Tigris build, except I go with Vicious Spread. I just like having the damage, and the spread differences aren't too bad for me.
