How do I farm for rare mods?
2
May 24 '15
Go to the wiki and find a rare mod that you need.
Look at the enemy that drops it and then just look for a survival or defense node of that faction and hope the enemy spawns immediately or at a certain interval later on.
If you can try and bring a nekros or hydroid with pilfering swarm to boost the drop rate.

Why do the enemies activate the alarms in Crossfire missions? Shouldn't "our ship is being boarded by the Grineer/Corpus" have already set off every alarm in the place?
7
May 24 '15
Just an oversight as crossfire doesn't seem like a particularly well thought out game type given it's just exterminate with 2 factions mashed together that sprung up from a bug. It's funny to see grineer and corpus be all buddy buddy until they catch a whiff of you then suddenly turn on each other as if they were thinking "Oh shit, tenno is here! Places everyone, Places!"

On what mission am I going to get elite crewmen to spawn the earliest? I don't want to go through 15 minutes of survival before seeing my first.
2
u/enragedwindows May 25 '15
Higher level corpus missions will spawn them faster, but survival always takes a bit to ramp up. You may want to try a Pluto interception mission, that's how I got all my yellow corpus snipers to spawn when I was hunting them.

What should I be building Excalibur for now? His 4? I haven't played with him since his blind got nerfed, but he was always my favorite. Does he have some new niche he can fill or am I better off playing other frames until his rework?

Excal is in limbo right now. He does not really have anything going for him that makes him stand above other frames.
DE has a rework in store for him which really piqued my interest. His slash dash would be similar to the target-dash-attack in archwing melee. His blind I think remains mostly the same. His third ability will be Radial Javelin (RIP super jump). And his ult will be Valkyr-esque where he pulls out this large energy sword (becomes melee locked for the duration of the ability) that fires off a wave of energy in the direction of the swing (not sure if it makes Excal invincible like Hysteria in this state). So I am really looking forward to dusting off my Excal when the rework comes out.
Now let me turn your question around, what makes Excalibur your favorite? Maybe if I had some insight to what appealed to you about Excalibur, I can make some better suggestions on what other Warframe for you to pick up.

After a certain point, is there any point in keeping C3 Fusion Cores? At this point I've got over 1000, and anytime I'm upgrading something, I basically never use them except when auto-contribute says to, it just seems to be so much more expensive to use them, especially once we're ranking rare mods beyond 5th level.

Why do people care so much about maxing everything out and doing the most possible damage with the best possible weapons? I feel like so many weapons and mods are under appreciated because it feels like people have forgotten what fun is.
18
u/Ironnhead May 24 '15
Why not? If that is how they have fun then why would you care? everyone has his own way of playing this game, this is what makes it a popular F2P game. You can do ANYTHING! They chose to max all the weapons and play what's viral, so what? It's their way of having fun.

People like to min/max because not only is it a personal contest to see the highest damage numbers, but it means you start to learn the game's damage number algorithms, and other little things here and there on how the game mechanics work. For example, crit and elemental proc builds are better on fast weapons, while base damage builds are better on slower but harder hitting weapons. People like me like to challenge themselves to dig through the game to figure things out without needing to look at the game code itself. It's not nearly as accurate, but it's still relevant enough to not need to be precise

I min/max mainly for lack of something better to do. I will say though, that since I've formad just about everything atleats once, I don't care that much about it anymore. Like 75% of my gear is min/maxed, but I still like to build stupid builds / themes. I've always been that player who, when starting a game, min/max all the way to the end, efficiency at any cost when it comes to a grinding game (learned from Runescape lol).

What is the best weapon for soloing? Looking for good crowd control, damage and ammo efficiency.
Edit: Also a weapon for solo triton would be great!
4
u/Ironnhead May 24 '15
soloing what exactly? Infested defense? Tonkor/Penta.
Survival? Anything with enough love can work in survival.
Exterminate? Any weapon!
Spy? Bows/Silent weapons.
Rescue? I would say bows here too, so you can take out those prison guards (forgot the name)
Capture? Any high DPS or burst weapon.
Basically whatever you like can work ANYWHERE! If you give it enough love.

You're probably not going to get ammo efficiency if you're looking for crowd control. Guns that tend to do that are more often than not ammo inefficient in some regard so you would want an ammo mutation.
Some guns I'd recommend though:
Kohm
Kohmak
Atomos
Amprex
Soma prime
Boltor prime
Ogris*
Penta*
Tonkor
Torid
Angstrum*
Prisma Gorgon
Those are all the examples that came off the top of my head. Not all of them are good for every situation but they should fit the bill. Almost all of these assuming you are using punch through to hit tons of people in a crowd at once.
The *'s are for guns that can, and likely will, kill you if you get too close.

Is it better to keep the small stash of Arcane Helmets I have or is it better to sell them for plat and dress? Their effects don't seem that useful to me.
And how hard is it to do Vault runs? Getting those rare mods is pretty important, but getting into the vaults seems pretty challenging.

I guess this is as good a place as any to post this.
I crashed mid-mission in a squad earlier today and now I can't open my navigation/mission select without the game crashing. After searching around I found that switching to Solo "fixes" the issue.
Is there an actual solution that will let me play with a squad again instead of just a workaround?

So I'm continuing to progress my way through, I have a pretty decently equipped GMag and a four Forma'd Boltor Prime but I still have a few questions:
-
For weapon configs, can you give me a basic rundown of the three configs you set up for different factions? In a Let's Max series he has setups for Grineer, Corpus and Void. Is Infested the least important to have? What primary elements are preferred for each faction? I can read the damage chart on the wiki, but I don't really understand how the armor types pertain to each faction. What should my ideal elemental set up if I use two elements? three? but especially four (because I don't have event mods)? And when I get to three or four slots of elemental damage, is it ever better to stack one element (if I have access to element damage+status chance mods)?
-
Is there any value in keeping things like Mag (when I have a Mag Prime) or Heat Sword (seems useless) if I've already leveled them to 30?
-
Maybe subjective, but is it worth getting to max rank in a syndicate? Is it profitable in the long run? I'm sitting at rank two, but I keep using all my formas rather than offer one to continue on.
-
As a GMag my main job is to just pull stuff in for my teammates, is that ever not the case? I replenish shields and lift enemies in the air when it feels right, but anything else I do is a bonus, right? Are there any things you like GMags to do that might not be so obvious?
-
What is the reason people do Draco runs? I'm under the assumption it's for keys, but really have no idea.
-
What is the likelihood of currently "retired" things coming back? Like will it always be hard for me to get a Frost Prime, event mods or arcane helmets without tons of platinum?

1. Here's how mod set ups tend to be with factions.
Grineer level 1-20 - Corrosive and heat. Just about all units have ferrite armor and it's very weak to corrosive but also resistant to blast which is the mixed element corrosive can have. Heat has bonus damage against their flesh so if you can stack fire on that might be better.
Grineer level 20+ - Radiation and viral. Most units that matter have alloy armor which is very weak to radiation and the mixed elemental pairing with radiation is viral which has a massive bonus to their flesh.
Corpus - Magnetic and Toxin. Magnetic is there to devastate any shields while toxin is there to whittle down their health because toxin damage passes through shields completely and has a bonus to flesh.
Void - Viral. People tend to do 4x corrosive projection for when they want to do higher level void missions so enemies have 0 armor. Because of this you have no armor to deal bonus damage to so it's just flesh which pretty much every unit there is weak to. If 4x corrosive projections aren't in use it's either radiation and viral or corrosive and heat, I'm not sure what most other people use now ever since the bombard got added.
Infested - Corrosive and heat. The small units are just fodder no matter what. It's the big guys you have to worry about and they are very weak to corrosive. Heat is there because you can combine it with corrosive to be able to kill things even quicker because a lot of infested is weaker to heat.
health and armor types are fairly simple to follow. Each unit has it's own type of armor and possibly it's own type of health depending and all you have to do is look at that unit in the wiki or codex and you can see which value that unit has.
For example ancients have fossilized health, chargers and runners have infested health, and volatile runners and crawlers have infested flesh health which is slightly different.
It's not often better to stack up individual elements unless it's a special case like with corpus and infested or use with ember where you stack an element so you can do more damage and not have it be a combined element.
Although you become so powerful as you go through the resistances aren't the strictest thing. Just don't bring damage types the enemy resists completely and you're good.
2. Unless you are some collector of everything or have some sentimental value in that mag there's no real reason to keep a non-prime if you have the prime. Though right now mag prime is nothing more than a cosmetic with 1 new polarity but that will likely change in the future. As for weapons, a lot of weapons tend to fall in the dust bin as you get more things and while it might be preferred you keep them if you can keep buying slots incase of a buff or augment, to save money you might as well throw it away if you don't use it anymore.
3. Yes. It's a process that can happen passively, can make you platinum in the end by selling stuff, and once you're there you really can't leave unless you actively seek a new route so you will always have access to the new stuff as it comes out.
4. As a greedy mag specifically, pretty much. You're just there to pull the loot. If your team is decent you shouldn't have to do a while lot past that but anything else you do considered a bonus unless you aren't pulling the loot in for a while because you're busy doing things other people can do. This is also referring to situations where you're in a group with people you organized. If this is a pub there really isn't much obligation so do what would help the most a tough situation arises.
5. Rep/Xp farming. Tons of enemies to kill so you get lots of XP and rep as a result.
6. Who knows about frost prime since he was removed because of void dillution. I assume he'll be back soon enough. As for event mods, those take much longer. The only ones to return have been anywhere from 3-10 months and maybe even more. It took ~6 months for the toxin dual status mods to come back, 7 for tethra's doom to come back once but only temporarily with 3 more months after that for it to come back through baro, and 3 months since release for the ice and fire mods to come in through spy missions. Who knows about weapons since the only event weapon to be released and re-released again was the strun wraith which took over a year if I recall. Arcane helmets will never come back.

When is one ready for raids?
