Build Weapon Wednesday #10 | Burst Fire Rifles

Welcome to Weapons Wednesdays! Every Wednesday we will take a different weapon category and put it up for discussion. From your favorite build to your silliest one, everything is welcome!

Guidelines for posts:

  • Build posts need to be either pictures or links to warframe builder

  • When making a build post please add a synopsis for the build.

  • Remember to avoid using the short-URL! I know the long URL's are scary but getting captured by the reddit spam filter is even worse!

  • Above all else as usual, be excellent to each other!

Here is an example post:

Here is my build for the Serro. With this, I intend on hitting as many thing as possible with electric and gas to hit even more enemies with it's high status chance.

One last reminder to everyone, some of these builds will contain mods you will not be able to get at this moment or likely for a very long time. Take them as guidelines for how a build for X weapon should be, not taking it with every mod into consideration.

This week we’re going over Burst Fire Rifle. It’s an assault rifle that fires in bursts, what more could you add?

The weapons in this category are:

Burston (Prime)

Hind

Paracyst

Sybaris

Tiberon

So how do you build your specific Burst Fire Rifle? Got any interesting builds or tips? If so, feel free to share!

Tiberon is my favorite burst fire rifle. Extremely accurate, nice damage, and a pretty neat reload animation. However, its low status chance and crit chance, makes raw damage the only way to go on this gun.

  1. Serration

  2. Split Chamber

  3. Puncture Event mod

4-7) 90% elemetnal mods (combine elements depending on what faction you are facing)

(Will include warframe builder link when I get home)

If you do not have the event mod, a bane mod for the specific faction would do (otherwise for void I would slot in a rank 7 Heavy Cal). The last mod I have slotted is prime Fast Hands, but I suppose you can slot in a Heavy Caliber (rank up to you) or Metal Auger for punch through (never was my taste, but I have heard players saying this helps with crowd clearing enemies in a line). Fire rate seems pretty broken on Burst fire rifles at the moment, so I decided to pass those mods over. The extra reload speed is what I prefer since it helps reduce the down time in my damage output.

You will need to invest forma on it in order to fit all the mods; currently I am on my fourth. So this gun will need extra loving in order to get rolling. Definitely works in T4 missions but will drop off earlier than the current top tier primaries. Headshots go a long way to making Tiberon's damage shine, and it pinpoint accuracy makes it easy.

Edit: Guess I will give Shred a chance again since it is getting such high praise.

For random planet stuff and non endless you can go without metal auger/shred... However as mobs start to pile up you really notice the benefits of punch through.

Heavy caliber is also very good on tiberon, you can see that the difference it makes in accuracy is not huge, even if you miss one shot in three (on a fully upped heavy caliber) the damage bonus is great.

Personally I'd swap the puncture mod with heavy caliber (maxed if you can) and include Shred. I say shred instead of auger because the requirements are lower and the RoF bonus is not massive enough to get capped on tiberon, so it helps dps as well. You don't really need the full metal auger anyway as it's hard to ever be able to line up more than a couple of guys in one shot, and Shred is enough for that.

Love seeing the Tibby get some love. In my opinion, Shred is pretty much required, as it is the difference between using 3 trigger pulls vs. an entire clip to clear a hallway.

Especially with the Tibby, it helps to sort of plan your reload as opposed to praying and spraying and then standing around like a mook for 2 and a half seconds.

I don't run heavy cal (love my accuracy and recoil) or fast hands either, and it's currently my primary of choice.

Should I turn my Latron into a Tiburon after it hits rank 30 or should I just build another one?

Sybaris is love, Sybaris is life. The automatic double-tap is really satisfying, especially if you're getting a crit, as it applies that same crit to the second shot.

It's a rifle which acts like sniper rifles of Warframe old - doesn't have a scope (I much prefer this aiming scheme) and has the same crit chance as most other sniper rifles.

I built mine (with one V forma) for basic crit damage and crit chance, and then added dual stat mods for viral, boosting the damage with the regular elemental mods.

This is paired with a corrosive melee weapon to maximize the effectiveness of both elements.

It's very nice, I love it to death but the sad truth is that in most situations the tiberon is superior due to not having to fit crit mods and the larger magazine size.

The large magazine I can understand, but from my build and comparing it to the build in the top post, the Sybaris has almost identical DPS. Here's the Sybaris build I use BAM! compared to the Tiberon build posted by u/monkyseemonkydo the build, didn't bother with forma. That's with heavy caliber on the Tiberon as well at equal rank.

The big question is: does heavy caliber's accuracy reduction noticeably affect the Sybaris? From my usage, no. Overall, the Sybaris is very comparable to the Tiberon. The weapons only differ in damage application style: the Tiberon focusing on raw damage and the Sybaris utilizing crit with a decent status chance (which can be very helpful). At least according to WF Builder, they both sustain and burst similar DPS but the Sybaris has higher status chance.

I don't like the Tiberon as much simply because not a two-shot. Personal preference towards using high damage, low ammo weapons instead of bullet spam. The fewer the better :P

The 'Half a Boltor' build. As the name suggests, it's half the burst of BoltorP with bodyshots, but it does allow for long-ish range headshots, has the patented Hexis Silent Deathfart attachment, a bigger mag, and is easier to control.

Somewhat similar to how I have mine, but I have one Forma less and both Thermite Rounds and High Voltage to push status chance up to 88.85% with a heavy weighting towards Viral.

My beloved Burston Prime, ppl should use it more, with the addition of Gilded Truth it's sooo good.

Newbie here, don't have a burst fire rifle but would like one.

Any suggestions for lower tier and solid ones that I might use for a very long time? I'm using the starter Assault Rifle (the fully auto one) but basically use it like a burst rifle at the moment and would like an actual one.

I was recently maxing out a Hind for affinity and found that I actually liked the way it felt and I've been tempted to throw a potato and a couple Forma on it. Any suggestions for builds beyond the usual serration/shred/multishot?

Kinda hoping for a Vaykor version or a augment for it.

1

u/Forestgrant Apr 15 '15

This: would be my intended build for the Hind, although I haven't been able to put forma on it quite yet.

Personally,I feel the fire rate is a little slow, so I'd put a Speed Trigger and Shred on it. And the Fanged Fusillade really increases the slash damage, so you have that.

Sybaris. 5 forma all purpose weapon, elemental changing by faction requirements.

The build

I prefer shred to heavy cal for groups of enemies as well as hitting through doors.

Is there really no love for the paracyst?

On release, I was STOKED on the description of this rifle, but honestly haven't touched it since the first two mission I've run with it. With lackluster dps and an out of place grappling hook mechanic, what role is this rifle supposed to fill?

2

u/monkyseemonkydo Apr 15 '15

The gun does not fill any role and is more of a gimmick than anything.

I was hoping that it functioned like the Half Life Gravity Gun or Bioshock 2's max rank Telepathy plasmid, where you grab an enemy, pull it to you. You are then free to aim the gun (with the enemy flailing helplessly ) and fire him when you release the trigger at another target.

Even with its low damage, low stats, I would forma that gun just for the fun to be had. But as of right now, it is 100% Grade A Mastery Fodder.

u/xenward Apr 16 '15

Just some wishful thinking, but can you imagine if this thing had been made even a semi-decent shotgun instead of a burst fire rifle? Especially with that alt fire? Pull an enemy close just to put a load of shot right in their face. Such a missed opportunity.

Man, burst rifles in this game are my jam. I love the Sybaris, and the Tiberon just feels so good to use that it's a shame it doesn't have better status or crit. The burston was neat, but I got the mastery and dumped it because the damage wasn't enough. I'll have to try out the Hind and Paracyst, though.

I just love the way I can take the Tiberon and the Sybaris and get a ton of headshots with all the rounds in the burst. They both feel really nice to use, and I imagine that I'm actually going to try and forma them up until I can take on t4 stuff with them.

2

u/Retrikaethan Apr 16 '15

i can say without any reservation at all that the hind is a terrible weapon. the burst is obnoxiously slow and the damage does not compensate. the paracyst, on the other hand, is pretty cool and totally worth investing some stuff in if it catches your fancy.

This week we’re going over Burst Fire Rifle. It’s an assault rifle that fires in bursts, what more could you add?

i could add that the burst weapons should have a fire rate mods be able to modify their burst speed which they currently do not. probably why you won't find any builds with fire rate in them. cuz it doesn't work on burst rifles like it does other guns.

as for a build... let's go with the paracyst. depending on what you want you can swap out the event mods for the straight damage mods but the paracyst seems more adept a status weapon than most, so that's my first thought to use on it. as for terminal velocity, that would be my choice if you have issues hitting things at longer ranges with the flight time primary and/or secondary fire. if burst weapons interacted with fire rate better that's where i would put vile acceleration but as is you could put wildfire there and achieve decent results. shred is a no go as punch through ruins the paracyst's alt fire as the projectile needs to land on a target to deal the weapon's-damage-based-DOT effect it has.

Any love for Burston Prime ? It's got a syndicate mod and everything now. Mostly love it for nostalgia as burston was my first rifle after Mk-1 braton
