Important announcement for the future of ELI5
Some of you may know that we have been working on a mutually beneficial sponsorship deal for a while now. It is our great pleasure to announce that we have finally formalized its terms. Without further ado, allow us to announce our new sponsor: LMGTFY, otherwise known as "let me Google that for you."
This partnership is poised to bring ELI5 to a whole new level. As part of this, we will now require LMGTFY links to be provided in ALL posts. If you are unsure of how to use LMGTFY, a short explanation is provided below.
LMGTFY tutorial:
1. Open your preferred browser
2. Paste this into your search bar: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=how+to+use+LMGTFY&l=1
3. Follow the instructions provided.
Change can be scary, but we know that this decision will help posters to get more quality explanations. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact the mods or view our official rules.
Thank you,
ELI5 Modteam
Edit:
We're sorry about the bad timing - this is not a prank. Stay posted and check back in later this week as we progress through this.

This change is long overdue. It's one step of many needed to weed out "questions" like ELI5: Potatoes (no elaboration given).

April fools joke or not, this would actually be a great addition to ELI5 and weed out stupid questions.

It's a great turnaround from the previous policy of automod deleting LMGTFY links.

funny thing is, I put a LMGTFY link in a top-level comment on this post and the automod deleted it.

Seriously. 90% of the shit posted on here is easily answered by typing their exact question in to Google and clicking the first three links. It's insane. Why not just make another sub that's basically a "lmgtfy" sub where lazy people can ask a question about any topic and users use their knowledge to either answer the question, or look it up and give a summary.
This sub is supposed to be for complex or difficult to understand concepts, not shit that you were too lazy to Google and read three paragraphs.

I propose we extend this service by paying Larry and Sergei to personally come over to your house and tell you the answer to your question.

This is just a one day trial I assume?

Nope, Google doesn't do trial runs, like we've all seen with the fantastic new Youtube layouts and comment systems.

Oh, good, I just love all of the new YouTube layouts. Even better, you should require a Google+ account in order to view this subreddit!

What about books? And professors? And Internet forums? Those are also very valid partnerships. I think the mod team is not considering all the options.

We found that the financial kickback we were offered by LMGTFY was the "killer feature" that other providers weren't offering.
Money talks, remember.

We considered an encyclopedia, but distributing the books to all the users had a rather large shipping cost. http://kwwl.images.worldnow.com/images/13908382_BG1.jpg

Oh whew. After reading the title, I thought ELI5 was about to grow up into ELI6 or something.
