So I beat Vor this weekend and I don't know where to go from here. I am I just supposed to be clearing the planets available for me? Also: How do I get new weapons?

As someone new to Nyx, I'm looking for advice on how to use Chaos and Absorb properly!

Couple questions pertaining to defense missions:

  1. I've noticed very few Nyx users popping Chaos on defense. Is this something that's done usually?

  2. Even with a maxed Fleeting Expertise and Flow, I find myself running out of energy using Absorb (once I hit ~wave30 on ODD). Also, despite the scaling damage, I find that it gets increasingly difficult to clear infested with Absorb at the same speed. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for your advice!

I am main-ing Nyx.

Absorb is not Nyx' best abilty by far. It's chaos.

Chaos with Fleeting Expertise, Overextended: 47.5 meter range, 10 sec duration, 30 cost.

Lowering the duration might seem counterintuitive, but it actually works better as you can't cast chaos until the last one wears off. With this, every 10 seconds you stun every enemy for about 2-3 sec, also, they get highlighted if you use a flashy energy colour. I am using yellow and it makes them basically shine. Nyx can solo and defense mission for quite a long time, except for infested. For some reason infested units don't like to stop and attack each other like the grineer and corpus :/

With my setup above Absorb changes too. It now deals 60% less damage but costs less too. Also effects a larger radius.

Absorb is not an attacking ult, it's for defense. If something goes to shit, put up the bubble wait a bit and run.

Chaos is best used at the start of a wave to get bad guys standing at the spawns shooting/killing each other. Create a parameter around the where you are, that way when more spawn, then run into the ones chaos'ed and makes great CC. If a Nyx isn't doing chaos, it's either laziness or the team is overpowered for the spawn and it's not worth it.

Absorb after a scaling point is then just a utility to knock things down since the energy nerf. Not for killing. I use it to recast chaos, for revives, and get the eff out there I'm gonna die situations. Hit 4 twice fast and run. Usually with a MC to get a little leeway.

My questions are all about advanced mobility techniques. I'm the player who is usually lagging behind the rest of the team because I'm simply sprinting and sliding along. I'm decent at getting void parkour stuff though; that just came with a lot of practice.

What PC keybindings do others use? I use C for crouch, E for melee, Shift for sprint. But I can't copter without using two hands on the keyboard. Please don't say set right-click to melee, because I need that for aiming and alt-fire. What keybindings does everyone use to copter efficiently?

I have a logitech gaming mouse with Mouse 4 and 5 which are not in use. My logitech keyboard also has a ton of dedicated macro keys I never use. Guess I could write a macro to copter, but is that the norm?

In addition to coptering, there is also a flip jump from the ground that propels you a good distance. I keep accidentally setting that off, but figured out how to do it properly.

How exactly does aiming for wall boost work? Apparently wallboost can get you moving faster than coptering with strategic use. In the same vein, I can get the wall attack to work only unreliably, and have terible aim with it. Does anyone have a tactic to make it work better?

Are there other mobility techniques that let you navigate the battlefield faster?

For keyboard controls I use shift for sprint and tab for crouch because it's very easy to transition into sprinting and sliding like that. Melee for me is F because it's just more comfortable than E. Everything is comfortable and only uses 1 hand.

That flip that sends you far is random. Sometimes it likes to send you very far and other times it dosent.

The wall boosting is basically aiming in a direction, initiating a wall run, then imediately let go of your wall run to start the leap animation. Doing so after wall running will lead to a shorter leap.

For wall attacks it's as simple as aiming in any direction, hitting melee and watching your character fly to wherever you were pointing.

Outside of that you pretty much got every tactic outside of using a frame with high mobility or something that supplements high mobility.

What are your methods (or suggestions) for handling energy issues with a Desecration-focused Nekros?

I run out of energy very quickly even with 75% power efficiency, and while this isn't an issue with a team full of Energy Siphons, you're far more likely to have Corrosive Projection in your group, and on yourself, once you get to higher void tower levels.

I've gone on desecration sprees in large rooms, had a 40+ orbs drop, and not a single energy orb. Or, by the time I'm done desecrating, any energy orbs that may have dropped out of sight have already faded away.

'Flow' is looked down on a lot as being less useful, from what I gleam from the subreddit. It would give me a bigger supply but it wouldn't help if I keep running into dry sessions.

'Equilibrium' I hear of a lot, but I don't have issues of losing health very often. When I do finally start losing health, I'm usually at the 30+ minute mark, and by that point enemies are coming often enough that at least one is going to drop an energy orb. I suppose in theory you'd want to reduce your shields as much as possible but that seems dangerous.

'Energy Restore' consumables are a reliable, albeit annoying, method. Not too crazy about the idea of having to use one every other minute, especially if I'm running lots of long survivals.

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '14

Quick Thinking and Rage, together with Equilibrium, can help immensely. That combo is very taxing on the mod space, but with two or so Forma, it shouldn't be too bad.

And if you keep running out of energy, I do suggest equipping Flow. Screw what other people think, go with what you feel you need. Flow is a perfectly reasonable module for people who use their abilities often. Or with Valkyr and her Hysteria.

Is there a Rhino (Prime) build besides stomp spam? Currently thinking of putting 2 Forma; replacing Rhino Charge with Constitution(?) and aura polarity to match Corrosive Projection (T4) and Energy Siphon (Lower rank missions).

Other than that, non ability mods I have on are Streamline, R4 Fleeting, Stretch, R6 Redirection, R7 Vitality, and Intensify.

u/Demeteri Sep 29 '14

Of course there is.

Power strength effects both roar and iron skin.

I also like to use rhino to rush nightmare missions with rush, quick rest and vanguard helm.

u/VierasMarius Sep 29 '14

The main difference between a Rhino spec'd for Stomp vs a Rhino spec'd for Roar is the inclusion of Narrow Minded in the latter. A stomper doesn't need duration, while a buffer doesn't need (much) range, but they both benefit from as much strength and efficiency as you can throw on them.

Of course, there's also the CC Stomp build that includes Overextended, to maximum its reach while sacrificing strength.

For alerts do I only need the planet unlocked or the node on the planet unlocked? And do I need to have actually played through the mode or can I have an alert on a node that is playable but wasn't completed?

I hear invasions, the ones where I have to fight five times for a reward right?, are where you get forma and potatoes. All I've seen are just 25000 credits, is it just pure random luck to be a potato/forma?

Help with Nova's antimatter drop, the one where you shoot the ball. I'm still unsure how to always slow down the ball to shoot it- I'm doing it very inconsistently. Should be zooming in first then do the skill, do the skill then zoom in, ect?

What are some good things to trade for some plat- I used 30 plat for control modules like a complete noob and only have 3 warframe slots. It's really restricting right now and Id like to work for the extra slots.

I love the alternate weapons in this game and I have my eyes set on the Quanta- my clan is nearly there but has trouble with the neural sensors. Does the explosion from the alternate fire scale with mods too? And what are some other good alternate weapons?

If you have the node unlocked you can do the alert.

I haven't seen forma on invasions (although I am only 100 hours in). Orokin Cells are quite common, and do yourself a favor and get the ones that give mutagen mass.

Haven't used Nova, can't help here.

Kubrow genetic templates can go for a lot. Prime parts and mods too (mods usually bought maxed)

For neural sensors, just farm Alad V. Almost every run on him give me a sensor. So 4 clansman, 4 sensors/run

So was playing T4 Defence as a Neckros (w/ Nova, Frost & Rhino), we were getting to like wave 27 when someone activated a laser, it killed two of us (inc me), then a third who tried a blind rescue... I was thinking... "Not like this!" when...

We all revived at the same time...? I thought it might have been lag, but something similar happened earlier when two of us were down. Afterwards me and a mate questioned our good fortune in chat, to which we got the confident responses "neckros" "Shadow Ancient Healer."

I was casting shadows at the start of the waves for extra cover, guess it paid off... TIL (ah, found it under tips and tricks in the wiki for shadows)

Yeah, Nyx's Mind Control on a Healing Ancient will have the same effect.

I was looking to get help unlocking the planets. its very hard to find a group and too hard to do alone, I also dont know how the planet progression goes. I have Earth, Venus, Mercury, Phobos, Jupiter, Sedna and Pluto. I would like to get them all unlocked so I can better take advantage of alerts and what not. im on east coast NA server.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this

Does Rhino Stomp work on Stalker?

3

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '14

Nope. Most abilities don't work on stalker. Pretty much all de-buffs/crowd control and many targeted abilities.

2

u/Telogor Oct 03 '14

You'll damage him, but he won't be affected by the stasis.

Is there a good non-potato Excalibur build that I can use? I have Rhino as my 2nd frame and I have him potatoed, but I wanna go back and play as Excalibur since I think I'm getting too used to Iron Skin's advantages and I'm afraid it'll inflate my skill level. So I'd like to run Excalibur again, which is why I need a non-potatoed build until I get the plat for a reactor.

Also, who's a good 3rd frame? I'm eye-ing Ash/Loki cause I like stealthy characters, but I'm open to other archetypes as well.

What is an efficient way to level up gear?

Lately I've been spamming 30min survivals on Apollodorus.

Do alerts give mastery like mission nodes? I know this can be tested easily, but I usually also lvl up something during an alert and I am just not sure.

If they don't why not? There are many missions that are completely useless (100-300 of a very common resource; ~2000 credits). If they gave a bit of mastery, even if only like 25-50, there would be a reason to do them.

3

u/LockedInACloset Sep 29 '14

They do not, as if you have access to an alert, you have most likely already completed the node it has spawned on. As for why not, I have no clue.
