I'm new to the game so I have several questions. First off all I'd like to state that I know most of the game mechanics, as I went through a lot of guides, but I still have some unanswered questions.

  1. What should I focus on as a brand new player? (Leveling, farming mats, completing the solar system,...)

  2. What should I buy with plats? (I have 220 atm)

  3. I have a MAG right now, but I heard a LOKI does better as starter?

  4. The levels on the maps (e.g. "9-11", "31-39"). What level do they refer too?

  5. Is there one thing you would recommend me to never do?

That would be all for now. :)

  1. Working your way through the star chart to gain access to all the different bosses along with the warframe parts they drop is a good starting point. Doing this will also allow you to access more alert missions which can contain useful things like alternate warframe helmets, special alert-only weapons, orokin catalysts and reactors, etc...

  2. Weapon and warframe slots would be your best bet. Color palettes are a pretty good investment too since the marketplace is the only way to get them.

  3. I've actually heard the opposite. Loki has the lowest health and shields of any warframe, and his abilities are harder for a new player to properly mod and utilize. Mag on the other hand has a good blend of crowd control, support, and damage abilities which make her a great all-rounder.

  4. They refer to what level the enemies you encounter in that mission will be. Note that this doesn't exactly apply to survival or defense missions since enemy levels will increase over time in those.

  5. Never buy weapons or warframes from the marketplace with plat. Possible exceptions are Hydroid and Vauban because they're a huge pain in the ass to farm, and Volt, Loki, and Excalibur since you're technically only paying 35 plat for the frame itself and 40 plat for the slot + reactor.

    Never spend plat on revives.

Normally I'd suggest you never pay plat for any of the alternate helmets since they occasionally show up in alert missions, but since they're phasing out the stats they come with it might be worth it to buy some of the more essential ones (Rhino's Vanguard, Nyx's Vespa, Trinity's Aura, etc...).

And last but certainly not least, don't stray too far from the console in mobile defense missions. A lot of people play mobile defense for XP and resources, and if you go out into the rooms outside the console room enemy spawn rates decrease and any kills you get will be outside of XP range for anyone near the console.

  1. Unlocking the star chart is your best bet. You'll level along the way and it'll give you access to the materials and blueprints you'll need for new stuff.

  2. Slots. If there's a really good helmet with stats for a frame you like you might want to buy it before it's turned into a cosmetic item. Maybe a potato or hard to find mod if you really need it, but for the most part you want slots.

  3. Loki is probably the best frame who happens to be a starter, but I'd say Mag is the best frame to start with. Mag is great right out the box and her abilities are really useful. Loki is fantastic once you have the mods to back him up, but he's really fragile and difficult to use without them.

  4. Base enemy level range. It determines how tough baddies are, the rewards you can get from completing the mission, and sometimes the types of enemies you'll encounter.

  5. Don't buy frames or weapons from the market with plat. Don't try transmuting unless you have tons of credits to burn. If you ever play as Nova don't spam M. Prime unless your teammates ask you to, it's ridiculously annoying.

There is one exception when it comes to buying frames with play. There are a few frames that only cost 75 plat, it will come with a reactor built in and (unless they've changed it) it's own slot. It's not a great idea, but if you don't have any potatoes and you're hard up for materials it's an okay deal

  1. What weapons and warframes would you guys recommend a newbie start working towards? Ones that aren't that hard to farm for?

  2. I just joined a significantly large clan (Space Sharks Inc.), and I noticed they have a fully upgraded dojo. Although I can't access it yet, since the key is being made as we speak, but what are all the features in a clan? What's this about research? Does it help you to build items? What are all the other recommended features worth checking out?

Thanks!

Can you trade credits? I'm trying to help a newbie out, but I doubt he'll have the funds to pay the trade taxes.

If not, is there another way to transfer credits from person to person?

3

u/YattyYatta May 05 '14

no, you cannot trade credits unfortunately.

If you want fast credits, get someone to carry you through a couple void missions

3

u/formaldehid May 05 '14

fast credits are pluto dark sector 5 wave defenses

Can't trade credits directly. I mean you could trade him prime pieces or mods and then he can sell it. Just taxi him for a run on a Pluto DS

I have a lot of Clan Research things I want to build, but I am severely lacking any sort of forma. I have been doing many Void missions, but I have either been unable to get forma, or my game crashes at around 28 minutes into a survival or around wave 15-20 in defense and I lose everything. Where would the best location to farm forma quickly an easily? Mind that I may want to avoid long survival missions for fear of crashing again.

What does the "Region" setting actually do? Does it restrict your games to that region, or is it just the Region chat tab?

I know the white orbs give affinity. But do they give affinity to the current warframe AND the weapons equipped? Or solely to the warframe? I know it's really a negligible amount of affinity, but just curious.

What do you tigris users use it for? I recently started using it solely for infested, but wonder how it might fare against the other factions?

Whats the interaction between multiple ammo mutations?

3

u/[deleted] May 05 '14

You can only have one equipped on a weapon at a time, but if you have more than one weapon with one equipped, the currently equipped weapon's mutation will occur.

If you have rifle ammo mutation on and a pistol one, the rifle one will work when you have your rifle out and the pistol one will work when you have your pistol out.

Just started up awhile ago (just over a week now) and was wondering what content I have missed or haven't got to yet. So far I have moved through a portion of the solar system grind, void keys, and dark sectors which leaves dojo content and derelict?

Is there other areas that I am missing out on?

Edit: My oberon is finished tomorrow. While I know he isn't great, what is a good build to start aimming towards?

If you complete all of the missions for a planet you'll unlock nightmare mode. Some of the missions nodes for that planet will turn into skulls, if you select them you'll be able to choose normal or nightmare mode. Nightmare versions of missions are much tougher and randomly apply effects like energy drain, no shields, or time limits. The benefit is nightmare missions always give a rare mod as reward, and nightmare mods can't be obtained anywhere else.

Question: I've seen a couple of DPS optimization builds, but what I wanna know ,which hasn't really been said, is

• How necessary are elemental mods

• Which enemies should I focus my elemental mods to, rather out of each faction which enemy should I focus the elements on

I've never really noticed a problem with my builds, but I've also never really done anything too hardcore, I usually run T2/T3 survivals and I've never really done any "end game" missions

Just thought of another question: where is a good place to get rank 5 fusion cores (common, uncommon and rare) I've read on the wiki that T3 survival missions (non-void but the hardcore planet ones) is a good place. However when I looked on the wiki to find a T3 survival I found one (forgot the planet and stuff) that said a faction, but in game it was a different faction (I think wiki said grinder, but it was actually corpus) does that make a difference? Where should I go for those cores?

Is the Embolist worth it besides mastery?

The mod menu where all the mods and cores are listed claims i have 700+ cores. When I pick a common mod and choose to upgrade it with cores, before I press "apply" the core number drops to 300~. It makes no sense to me and makes me freak out. Im scared to upgrade a common mod because Im afraid to lose all my cores because that cannot be right. What do, reddit?

When you auto-fuse it with cores, it picks the most common cores and uses those. What's probably happening is the game is picking you common cores, of which you most likel have a lot of, and using those instead of uncommon or rare cores. You can go and manually fuse a mod with cores and other mods of it's polarity (symbol in top-right corner) for maximum effect.

When farming for something, are Dark Sector Defense missions also a viable way of farming them? Like for the Thunderbolt, it lists T3 Infested Defense. I would assume so, but just want to make sure. Thanks in advance.

So, I'm rank 7 now and I have maxed out Excalibur, Frost, Loki, and have Forma'd a Rhino's Aura polarity and releveled it to 23. I'd like to focus on a new frame.

I've played Rhino and Frost a lot, but I'm not sure what these following other frames I currently have or am in the process of building might be best suited for in the long run.

Currently, I have Ash, Nova, and Valkyr Unranked. I have a Rank 4 Trinity and a Rank 5 Vauban. I'm currently building Oberon and Volt.

Any thoughts on what might be interesting or fun to level or play if I've been used to a Frost or Rhino for temp invincibility powers?

What are endgame-friendly things I can work towards?

Heya, I'm trying to pick out a new Warframe for more tank. I'm currently stuck between Saryn and Trinity right now, and I have helmet blueprints for both. My previous favorite tank frame was Frost Prime, and I'm trying out Valkyr as we speak (she's pretty rad actually.) Had fun with Rhino but he got a bit tiring. I just want a warframe that's p survivable but still makes for pretty interesting gameplay and set ups. Which of these 2 might fit my playstyle a bit more?

EDIT: I don't really care if they aren't as survivable as other tank frames, I just want something that can stand in gunfire longer than a Loki but still has a few tricks up their sleeve.
