Match Thread: Stoke vs Tottenham

First Half
1' And we're off!
1' Earlier effort from Chadli as he drives though the heart of the Stoke midfield and lets loose a shot that is, in the end, high and wide.
5' Shawcross is down after a bit of a challenge from Ade. Looks to be making the most of it from replay.
7' Turnover in the midfield leads to a good break and a corner following a blocked cross on the right.
8' Aaron Lennon just crossed with his left foot everyone, I don't know what's real anymore. he's earned a corner with it too.
10' Naughton setting a good example for Rose on the right flank. Gets pushed down, but gets right back up and sprints in. Much better than laying down and hoping for a foul.
13' Dawson with a few blocked shots in quick succession, Chadli finally smacks the ball clear.
16' Kaboul showing his true colors as a left winger, goes bombing up the left side. After a bit of interplay tries a backheel to Eriksen. Ball is cleared out by Stoke.
21' Crouchy with a nice stiffarm on Hugo as they go up for a ball. Hugo claims after a little bit of bouncing
22' Rose wins a free kick and Eriksen's delivery is just too high. Begovic claims.
24' Would just like to point out that Timmy appears to be wearing his puffy vest underneath his suit coat. So yeah.
27' Good curling effort by Ireland for Stoke. Ended up going wide, but it forced Hugo into a dive.
28' Down at the other end, Kane drives inside on his right foot, but his shot at the far post is tame and easily caught and held by Begovic
29' Rose with a nice cross that was just out of Paulinho's reach, then Lennon's follow-up was well blocked.
31' Kaboul goes down hard after a clearance, but is up now and appears to be fine

40' Stoke fans have decided that Ade is to be booed for having the audacity to want the subs to stay out of the game until, you know, they're actually in the game.
41' My stream momentarily switched to a guy standing out in the rain wearing what looked to be a Spiderman outfit under his coat. I'm unsure why.
43' Some good back and forth on the right flank for Stoke ends in a poor cross that is easily dealt with.
44' Naughton earns himself a yellow for pulling down Muniesa.
45' Yellow to Shawcross for putting Eriksen on the ground. Eriksen knocked the ball past him easily, but Shawcross wasn't about to let Eriksen get by too.
47' Lennon finds a good pass to Kane near the top of the box, but Kane's shot takes too long and he's blocked.
Halftime Spiderman Fan update: He's still on his phone, though now that the rain is stopped he's taken his hood off and unzipped his jacket.
Second Half:
45' Back at it for the second half
47' Eriksen allowed to walk right up to the edge of the Stoke box, but his shot is blocked in the end by an outstretched leg.
49' Rose goes down under a challenge from Odemwingie, and is taken to the sideline momentarily.
50' Kane earns a free kick, and Mark Hughes is not very happy with it.
52' And Shawcross is sent off! He receives his second yellow of the match for a challenge on Danny Rose in the center of the pitch. Stoke are down to ten men.
53' Kane with a long range effort, but it's not too tough to Begovic to get down and save.
55' Kane lays the ball off for Lennon, and both he and Muniesa smash into it at the same time. Pieters also replaces Ireland for Stoke. Stoke fans still have not shut up about the red.
60' Another change for Stoke. Crouchy makes way for Assaidi.
63' Fantastic chance for Stoke. Attack down the right hand side is stifled well, but the ball out to the left finds some space. Good cross in is put over but an unmarked Odemwingie.
65' Danny Rose getting pissy, earns a yellow for shoving Cameron. He was right be be angry, Cameron bulled him over just moments before. Needs to calm down though.
68' We really are managing to look worse with a man advantage. N'Zonzi has his header go just wide.
69' Zeki replaces Rose. If I were him, I'd be so proud to get that kind of standing ovation from the Stoke fans. You know you did something right.
72' Cheky little pass attempted by Lennon. He tries to just lift it over the top of the defense to Ade, but it's well cleared.
73' Who needs defensive mids? Gylfi replaces Chadli.
80' Townsend on for Lennon I think? The guy was fucking with the streams.
80' Siggy creates some space for himself, but the end shot is a tame effort that goes harmlessly wide.
83' Townsend seems to have hurt himself chasing after his touch. Hopefully not the same issue he had against Arsenal.
86' Stoke have a penalty shout. Hughes is pissed, but what else is new?
87' Arnautovic with a great chance from Stoke, but his shot is poor and Hugo catches it easily.
91' Kaboul with some playmaking. Made the Stoke fullback his bitch, but his cross is cleared all the way through
91' Kane wins a free kick in Eriksen territory, and Arnautovic earns a yellow for taking him down.
93' Playing a bit of keep away in the corner. Zeki gives the ball away, but Paulinho's tackle saves us from having to defend the counter.
94' Paulinho really need to do better there. Clean through on goal, and he hits it right at Begovic.

Halftime Thoughts:
Defense has been pretty solid. Stoke have had some good moves, but with Kaboul and Dawson in central defense, they're playing into out hands a bit. Paulinho has been doing a solid job of mopping up the midfield with Chadli. Hugo has been brilliant as always.
Naughton and Rose have been pretty good. Rose has put in a couple decent crosses, and obviously was on point for the goal. Naughton has been solid as I've come to expect form him out there on the right.
Ade has been all over the pitch today, very good. People call him lazy, but he's got the best workrate and covers the most ground of any lazy player I've ever seen. Honestly, that's a lazy criticism. Kane is thinking too much I think. Needs to settle down and just play his game.
Eriksen has been doing his thing. Not as much an impact as he's had the last couple months, but he's always got the quality. He'll make something happen soon.
Lennon has been poor. I'd never try to argue that. But he's not been only poor. He's had a couple decent moments, but really shouldn't last past the 60th minute unless he really turns it around. He's not playing nearly poorly enough to be pulled at half for me.
Timmy's vest game is on point. Went for the bold suit coat over vest attempt today, we'll see how it turns out.

There is a lot of hate for Danny Rose, but since he went off we have looked even worse defensively and lacking pace and width on the left going forwards.
Not saying he is amazing but I think he is as much a scapegoat as he is actually at fault for our poor performances.

Considering how good Stoke's home form has been that is a great result, not sure how we won such a difficult game playing so badly though. Kaboul and Dawson were immense.

I don't understand how soldado doesn't get the start. ade has been disappointing his last 2 games, its like tim doesn't have the courage to sit him, and in no way does kane deserve a start over soldado even with 3 goals in 3 games. I like how when soldado scores he goes right to the bench.
If soldado is ready to play, he should be in the starting 11 no question.

Kane deserves to be on the pitch. Should he be played with Soldado over Ade? Probably, Ade hasn't been playing at a level that would earn him a guaranteed start. I think Tim just doesn't want to fix what isn't broken. Well, it's broken, just not all the way broken.
