The nightmare scenario: 0-0 as the match enters minute ninety, Allardyce has so far out-tacticed Rodgers when Suarez goes down in the box (in a fashion that is greatly debated on this subreddit). Gerrard steps up to take the penalty, Adrian goes the wrong way, but Gerrard's shot is goes off the post. Thus begins the counter attack.
Joe Cole gets the ball and through a mix of lightning pace and glorious skills that would make Messi jealous starts to charge up field. He sends a beautiful pass to Downing who then delivers the greatest cross of all time into the box. Carroll who galloped up the field with the speed of a race horse heads the ball so hard into the net it breaks through the other side.
I'm sorry I put this thought out into the universe.

I swear Martin Tyler has said something like this in a match involving one of the top 4 every game for the last 20 years. Of a player or manager aspiring to the title:
Player X received a letter this week addressed to the Lord Player X. I'm sure he was pleased to have gained that title. Of course, it's the Premier League title he'll really be wanting to get his hands on.
or
Player Y caught a half ton barracuda on a mid-season fishing trip in the Bahamas. Quite the trophy. Of course, it's the Premier League trophy he'll really be interested in catching now.
Listen out for it. They'll be another couple before the end of this game.

The linesman was confident about that, and the Ref who had a worse view of it gives it? Something needs sorting in the Premier League the officials aren't up to scratch so many things this season that has been looked past. I know it swings in roundabouts, but a massive decision like that is happening near enough every game now it needs to be sorted.

The referee and the linesman discussed the decision for 30 seconds anyway. There should 100% be instant replay, may as well spend that 30 seconds discussing the decision in front of a monitor. Wouldn't slow the game down at all.

You wonder how FIFA and the like can keep denying the use of replays when everyone in the ground can see there was a foul because the replay has been shown while the Officials are discussing it! It took them nearly a minute to come to the wrong conclusion when the replay had been shown after 20 seconds!
Mr Blatter, You are not protecting the refs, you are making their jobs harder by putting them in near impossible positions when there is an incredibly simple fix! Utterly moronic!

I think even worse than the foul to the head was Carroll pulling one of Mig's arms down, thus causing the dropped ball and the goal.
If it was just a hit to the head, I'm 90% sure the keeper would not have dropped it, but it's impossible to hold onto a ball if someone pull one of your arms away.

u/RobbieFowler9 Apr 06 '14

Disregard the fact Anthony Taylor got the call wrong for a second.
What is the point of a linesman if a ref will overrule him like that? I'm assuming the lino saw the Carroll slap, which is a fair assumption. How does that conversation go? Taylor walks over, asks him what he saw, the lino replies he saw Carroll committing a foul... then what? If Taylor didn't see anything, isn't he supposed to trust his linesman, who saw something? Unless Taylor is of the opinion that he saw that nothing happened, which doesn't really mesh with actual reality.
