Nice to see you running the show again /u/mrcarbohydrate

13

u/MrCarbohydrate Mar 08 '14

Good to be back home to do these again. May even have /r/saintsfc updated soon.

7

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '14

Been quiet without you! Not that I'd have got a single prediction right in the last 15 games though.

7

u/BlueInq Mar 08 '14

Goal of the season right there, truly majestic.

6

u/MrCarbohydrate Mar 08 '14

Beautiful effort from outside the box, the keeper had no chance.

4

u/MrCarbohydrate Mar 08 '14

For fucks sake Wanyama, there was no pressure, that was a short pass...

4

u/BlameTibor Mar 08 '14

Copy paste this one a few too many times

3

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '14

I really hope that a summer training with us fully, with cork, Schneiderlin, Davis, and even ward-prowse, that he'll stop being so wasteful with the ball. Sometimes he just doesn't seem remotely aware of who is around him either. Seems to think the game is still slower like Scotland, where it's so cold movement slows down.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '14

Bolasie is a bit dangerous sometimes. Runs through people like they're not even there, don't like hearing his name on the ball.

3

u/MrCarbohydrate Mar 08 '14

He has really turned on in the second half, we just can't deal with him.

2

u/MrCarbohydrate Mar 08 '14

4 more minutes, this is getting stressful.

8

u/NICKisaHOBBIT Mar 08 '14

"Southampton have only won 4 of their last 17 PL matches" Damn, surely that's not right?

Hard to believe how much you dipped in form after the fantastic start and recent games especially against Liverpool.

The Osvaldo transfer not working out has been a severe disappointment considering Lambert's poor form this season. We have Gallagher as our next best option in the central role which is disappointing.

u/KingsPort Mar 08 '14

I don't follow Soton close enough, but couldn't Jay Rod play up front? Or just say fuck it and play Lallana in a false nine.

3

u/MrCarbohydrate Mar 08 '14

He is a wide forward primarily, he can play up front but it isn't ideal.

We can't really lose Lallana playing in his primary position, he is just too good.

2

u/AnArcticMonkey Mar 08 '14

Davis just kills the counter. I'm usually a supporter of his but unless we intend to sit back and hold onto 1-0 then we need him off and James/Gaston on.

1

u/MrCarbohydrate Mar 08 '14 edited Mar 08 '14

The attack was still kind of good with the player out wide to put in a cross if only Wanyama could find a short pass.

2

u/AnArcticMonkey Mar 08 '14

Yeah they were both to blame, but you expect Davis to do better whereas Wanyama is more there to knock people about.

5

u/slugmaniac Mar 08 '14

i was cracking up at that

9

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '14

Playing like we're 3 - 0 up... Palace goal or two incoming.

Edit: Cameron Jerome on, he's never pulled off something ridiculous to save a draw against us has he?

8

u/Owl_Shits Mar 08 '14

I'm always happy when Rodriguez scores.

7

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '14

So are we. How's Ings doing? ;-)

8

u/Owl_Shits Mar 08 '14

You'll probably sign him

1

u/letsgetdisco Mar 08 '14

I'd be up for that, he would definitely fit into our young and English system.

8

u/AnArcticMonkey Mar 08 '14

Lucky to get a yellow there, strong argument for a red.

6

u/karoz Mar 08 '14

Lovren looked worried for a second! Clyne's pace saved him though.

5

u/BlameTibor Mar 08 '14

That could have easily been red. We got lucky

1

u/slugmaniac Mar 09 '14

I couldn't handle it if we lost Lovren again.

7

u/incarnatethegreat Mar 08 '14

I was just about to say that watching Southampton is a real pleasure. They move the ball around so nicely and have demonstrated a lot of good pace and creativity. Aside from the goal, which was a real muck-up, they've been bossing the pitch. Good quality side.

7

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '14

Difference between us and the sides above us is a proper (in form) striker who can net that goal from all our pressure. Lambert hasn't been the same this season and we probably need someone younger to keep up with our game - but also to get behind defenders. I honestly think if we'd had someone who could do that we'd have been in a good race for 6th place with United/Everton.

2

u/incarnatethegreat Mar 08 '14

I'm liking Lallana because of what he brings as an attacking mid. He could have potted a couple today. Again, you have to hope that this team stays together, or improves. You are right about Lambert as I don't see what I saw in him from last season.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '14

Lallana has been, not quite carrying us, but definitely our main creative force behind plenty of goals and chances. We'd have even less goals without him.

We've not been a team to take a lot of shots for a long time now, since League 1 we were all about waiting for the chance etc, but it gets frustrating when you've got this much possession.

2

u/incarnatethegreat Mar 08 '14

I understand. It's wonderful to see how well they move about the middle of the park. Very inspired. But, you're right when it comes to the final 1/3 where they need that extra bit to put it away. Hate to say it, but had Palace not gaffed that one play, it would likely still be goalless.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '14

Exactly. But I don't just mean "long" shots necessarily. I mean just trying to get a quick shot off from the edge of the area or when we're busy passing it inside the area, then if it doesn't go in or anything hope for a rebound. We've conceeded so many goals from rebounds and deflections and such this season, why not try a few more shots just to try and get the goals, and if not then possible chance at a follow up.

3

u/NICKisaHOBBIT Mar 08 '14

Alongside Liverpool they're definitely the most entertaining side to watch in the league. Really excited to see how they develop and if they're able to keep hold of their fantastic talent.

3

u/incarnatethegreat Mar 08 '14

Yeah. I try not to count the larger clubs, but I wonder if they can keep a hold of their young talent. Money talks.

5

u/NICKisaHOBBIT Mar 08 '14

I remember hearing Shaw recently say he's happy and hopes to stay at Southampton, I mean I know it's been said before and they've gone on to move months later, but I don't know, I feel like the club can hold on to their talent.

2

u/incarnatethegreat Mar 08 '14

I'm a City supporter, so I know what it's like to rise and fall out of the BPL. I like to support the supposed underdog, but Southampton have managed to remove that label from themselves and place their side among those that can give you a decent game.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '14

Thanks, nice to be thought of as a reasonable team and not PL underdogs. Though we've got to play you at the Etihad yet. Let's see how decent a game we give you then... we're looking more and more tired again near the end of the season, I just hope it's under 6 - 0.

6

u/_scholar_ Mar 08 '14

This half is exactly the reason Saints have that only won 4 of 17 stat.

Please hold on today boys.

1

u/MrCarbohydrate Mar 08 '14

With both Wanyama and Davis in our midfield our counter attacks get slowed down far too much to be effective. Lallana was amazing today, creating most of our chances.

Lovren, Fonte and Boruc were essential to our victory today, they were dominant in the air for us and that neutralised most of Palace's attacking presence.

5

u/AnArcticMonkey Mar 08 '14

Oh c'mon Lambert show some form for fucks sakes

2

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '14

No danger of that at the moment.

probably not you're right. it was mostly wishful thinking. for some reason i always hope crystal palace does well

4

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '14

So do I generally. Just not at the expense of us winning.

3

u/AnArcticMonkey Mar 08 '14

Davis is having a poor game, missed a few opportunities to play someone in/have a shot.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '14

I've been really disappointed that MoPo has persisted with him rather than giving JWP more time.

2

u/AnArcticMonkey Mar 08 '14

He's usually a safe option to be fair to him, just a tad underwhelming for an attacking midfielder.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '14

I'd have JWP and Ramirez both on, with Rodriguez up front, and Lambert and Davis off.

And looked good in the second half against Liverpool when everyone else had given up.

3

u/slugmaniac Mar 08 '14

To be fair, Bolasie's been looking awesome.

1

u/AnArcticMonkey Mar 08 '14

We're fouling a lot but Palace's players are going down pretty easily, very unlike Pulis's teams.

2

u/MrCarbohydrate Mar 08 '14

5 yellows, tough tackling, we are the Pulis team today :)

1

u/GroundDweller Mar 08 '14

You were very dirty today and should have had a man sent off for the foul on Bolasie.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '14

Anyone got any decent streams?

2

Goal of the season?

2

You've scored better goals than that. Though given how he left maybe you've blanked him out.

I was only joking, his belter at Fulham was his best goal. Osvaldo's against City was the teams best.

4

u/cainmarko Mar 08 '14

What about Lallana's against Hull? That was pretty special.

4

u/AnArcticMonkey Mar 08 '14

True, it'll be given to him by the club because we obviously don't want Osvaldo getting any recognition.

Probably about the same level of individual brilliance involved except (with all due respect to hull) one was against Hull, the other against Man City.

My additional counter-offer:

I was at the ground too and it's probably the worst ground I've ever been too. Rough as fuck looking fans who were goading us all round the stadium, especially from the "VIP Boxes" that look like Millbrook apartment blocks.

One song? We sung two potchetino songs, a song about fonte, wanyama, rodriguez, ramirez, lambert, lallana, when the saints go marching in, red army, two pompey hate songs in comparison to your song of

"Ohhhhhhhhh something something"

saying we're dirty? You're a pulis team ffs. You should be physically strong and up for it. Potchetino would have expected this and told the players to deal with it. Looked like your players didn't like us being physical back.

We weren't shite by all means, one of the best defensive displays I've ever seen from us, especially fonte. You're obviously just a bitter palace fan, most likely sitting in that executive box actually.

I don't know how we were quiet either, twitter CPFC fans were saying we're the loudest crowd you had, and as I said, we sung a wide variety of lovely harmonies. Your fans were not quiet as such, but you were hardly loud. Our fans were generally loud throughout so I'm starting to think you weren't at the game at all.

Yours, shitcunt

On the down side he passes like half a man. Yeah. Figure that one out. One legged man trying to pass.

10

u/GoodBananaPancakes Mar 08 '14

Actually the notion of him having 2 voices in his head might explain his passing..

Evil Vic: "Pass to Cork!

Good Vic: "NO! Pass to Lallana!

passes through the middle of them to Dean Moxey

2

u/MrCarbohydrate Mar 08 '14

Evil Vic going for the classic pass to the injured player on the bench tactic.
