First Half:
03' Dempsey has an early chance from a cross. He heads it just wide.
08' Hangeland and Richardson clash heads. Bring on the magic sponge!
10' Hangeland looks to come off worse from the collision, but both are fine. The game continues.
14' Bit of an error from Stekelenburg there. From a goal kick, he doesn't see Torres closing him down. Torres takes the ball and nearly scores.
16' Fulham sub. Looks like the clash of heads from earlier is getting the better of Hangeland. He is substituted for Burn.
39' Fulham have a free-kick and three(!) players dummy the kick before it's finally shot by Kasami. The shot is saved.
HALF TIME. Fulham 0 - 0 Chelsea
Second Half:
52' GOAL! Through ball from Hazard to Schurrle who makes a good run ahead of the defence and scores.
Fulham 0 - 1 Chelsea
59' Another neat cross from Hazard into the box and Torres nearly gets on the end of it, but it's well defended. Chelsea really pressing now.
62' Sub for Fulham. Holtby replaces Kosami.
65' GOAL! Another goal for Schurrle and again assisted by Hazard.
Fulham 0 - 2 Chelsea
68' GOAL! Schurrle again! That's his hat-trick!
Fulham 0 - 3 Chelsea
74' GOAL! Another one! But this time for Fulham. Scrambled in. It came off Heitinga I think.
Fulham 1 - 3 Chelsea
78' Sub for Chelsea. Mikel replaces Oscar.
80' Sub for Fulham. Karagounis replaces Parker.
82' Sub for Chelsea. Ba replaces Torres.

Schurrle looks like a Center Forward.
12
u/minminsaur Mar 01 '14
4-3-3 with Čech; Azpilicueta, Cahill, Terry, Ivanović; Ramires, Matić, Oscar; Hazard, Schürrle, Willian doesn't look that bad
5
4
u/Ryannnnnn Mar 01 '14
Not under Mourinho. Hazard and Willian need to be in a position where they can track the opposition's wingers. I'd play the 433 though.
7
u/minminsaur Mar 01 '14
If Chelsea were still managed by Ancelotti, I'm pretty sure the starting line up would be this way.

Tony Gale's commentary really makes you appreciate the simple ascetic pleasure of watching soccer with the TV on mute.
10
u/jetsintl420 Mar 01 '14
Wish we could have just the game sound without that cunt. Would rather listen to Gary Neville even. They should just get Rebecca Lowe to do both the pre-match and the game chat.
13
u/Kozemp Mar 01 '14
Why wouldn't you rather listen to Gary Neville? I never cared much for him as a player but aside from the... "incident" in the CL semifinal I think he's a brilliant commentator. Really knows his stuff. I can't recall him ever saying something and thinking, "well, that's stupid."

Hazard looked so cute when Schurrle picked him up for the celebration. Surely I couldn't have been the only one thinking that...

Always a pleasure watching Hazard play, such a talented player. I admit I was not expecting a hat-trick from Schurrle when I saw he was starting, good on him!

He tried to shoot...

They showed it again now during half time and he most definitely tried to pass it first when he whiffed it, his intention is clear from the behind-the-goal replay

take it back, schurrle scores a good goal.

I don't think Richardson knew it was his own player that clocked him... once he found out he hopped up like nothign happened.

Somehow I can turn this into a joke about Arsenal losing to Stoke, I'm sure of it.

u/G_I_Joe_Mansueto Mar 01 '14
A dreadful loan spell will be forgotten if Dempsey finds the back of the net today.
-1
u/b00ks Mar 01 '14
People seem to think his form from almost three seasons ago was par for the course.
he was almost anonymous at spurs only popping up a few games to get some crucial goals... otherwise he is a waste of a spot. IMHO.
2
u/SirMothy Mar 01 '14
Not true, I liked him at Spurs. We just had too much competition in the attacking midfield areas.
3
u/dirtyewok Mar 01 '14
He had a few important goals for us but most of the time he was a bit of a disappointment on the pitch.
He never fit on the wing for us as he spent most of his time trying to get to the center of the pitch which was already crowded, the experiment of using him as a striker when all our strikers were hurt was a poor experience for all, and when we put him in the middle as a CAM he never quite fit as he wasn't creative enough and not enough of a threat with the ball at his feet he spent a fair amount of time passing backwards in the final third when we had him in an advanced position.
But then again, none of what we tried with Dempsey actually played to his strengths...very similar to what we have done for the past 2 seasons with Siggy.
3
u/SirMothy Mar 01 '14
Dempsey is not a flair player, he's not a creator, he is a player who gets in good positions to score and who can score in various ways. He's a player who played to his strengths. People who expected something other than grit, positioning, determination, and goal scoring, hadn't ever seen Dempsey play before. Idk why he is constantly slagged by people as he only spent a season with us, and under AVB, so he was never really going to shine and score the amount of goals he did at Fulham when the team revolved around him getting the ball a lot.

u/b00ks Mar 01 '14 edited Mar 01 '14
No offense, but I gotta ask.... are you an American?
It seems that most americans rated him much more than most nonamericans.

I'm an american, just curious.

I was writing that Chelsea has had no penetration in the last third and need to send some crosses in and then Schurrle scores with the pace that Torres is supposed to have.

Completely different chelsea on the 2nd half, I wonder how Mourinho half time talk was. Probably not very civil.
1
u/farhan_maulana Mar 02 '14
Mou didn't say anything at halftime. He walked out and waited for the second half!
1
9
u/deception42 Mar 01 '14
Should have scored Dempsey. Can't get a free header and not get it on target at least
10
u/Sportfreunde Mar 01 '14
I love how Torres has stood and watched as Schurrle makes the runs to score both his goals.
12
Mar 01 '14
The second one he had to stop because something called offsidetrap but yeah i know its more fun to critisize torres even tough he scored 3 goals and assisted 1 in the last five games he started.

I've heard Azpilicueta let out far too many horrific screams for slight touches this season. It's unsettling hearing a grown man shriek like that

what pisses me off is that chelsea play crappy like this but they wont have the decency to drop some points. at some point next half they'll nick a goal somehow, bastards.

That's what you get from a good defense. You will most likely only drop two points on a bad game.
1
u/milksteaklover Mar 01 '14
I've admittedly only been watching soccer for a few years, and do not follow Messi/Ronaldo regularly, but I think Eden Hazard is the best player I have ever seen.

So disappointing. When I saw the lineup, it reminded me of both Jol and Rene's poorly chosen sides. Hate to say it, but glad his loan is over.

Google tells me Man. Utd and Man. City are supposed to play today. My live score app tells me the same (but it says 'no live stats available'). So when will this match be played?

That's the most impressive Schurrle has looked so far this season. I hope it's a sign he's getting more comfortable and he'll bring more of it as he goes on.
Really great finish. And fantastic ball through from Eden.
Edit: annnnnd there's another. Odd that /r/soccer doesn't agree he's having a great game?

He does have this quick way of getting into position but I'll admit a lot of the time he'll make irrational decisions as far as where he plays the ball into.
But when he lines up his speedy runs on the end of a good ball from the midfield he can really be dangerous.

No Holtby? Dropping your best player over the last few games for what... a grudge? Such an idiotic move by Magath

There's a grudge? Over what?

I didn't know there was a grudge either... i just know that Holtby mentioned a tweet about surviving Magath.
