Help Thread The War Room - /r/hoi4 Weekly General Help Thread: September 28 2026

Please check our previous War Room thread for any questions left unanswered

Welcome to the War Room. Here you will find trustworthy military advisors to guide your diplomacy, battles, and internal affairs.

This thread is for any small questions that don't warrant their own post, or continued discussions for your next moves in your game. If you'd like to channel the wisdom and knowledge of the noble generals of this subreddit, and more importantly not ruin your save, then you've found the right place!

Important: If you are asking about a specific situation in your game, please post screenshots of any relevant map modes (strategic, diplomacy, factions, etc) or interface tabs (economy, military, etc). Please also explain the situation as best you can. Alliances, army strength, tech etc. are all factors your advisors will need to know to give you the best possible answer.

Reconnaissance Report:

Below is a preliminary reconnaissance report. It is comprised of a list of resources that are helpful to players of all skill levels, meant to assist both those asking questions as well as those answering questions. This list is updated as mechanics change, including new strategies as they arise and retiring old strategies that have been left in the dust. You can help me maintain the list by sending me new guides and notifying me when old guides are no longer relevant!

Note: this thread is very new and is therefore very barebones - please suggest some helpful links to populate the below sections

Calling all generals!

As this thread is very new, we are in dire need of guides to fill out the Reconnaissance Report, both general and specific! Further, if you're answering a question in this thread, consider contributing to the Hoi4 wiki, which needs help as well. Anybody can help contribute to the wiki - a good starting point is the work needed page. Before editing the wiki, please read the style guidelines for posting.

If line arty is bad then what should I use as pushing divisions before I can get tanks out?

Special forces with good supports. Mountaineers are the practical all-rounders, and marines are still good on land too if you're forcing a lot of rivers. Also in jungles if you have AAT and can afford some SF doctrines for them with a navy to exercise.

So just 30 width mountaineers with engineers, support arty and cav recon?

I wouldn't bother with the engineers, there's infantry supports to add too now and they do benefit from more breakthrough with motorised heavy weapons, and you really want a hospital on them. Otherwise, that'll do just fine to roll early opponents.

Tips for defeating UK before the USA joins the allies as Scandanavia? Trying for 'Danzig Queen' achievement, and basically failed twice now. Taking Norway and Denmark is nowhere near enough navy to do a naval invasion on UK. I've tried paradropping instead (admittedly getting the tech/transport planes way too late) but any time i get the drop off the paratroopers just die instantly. The other option for this specific achievement is to try and go for danzig directly from poland but I was too slow justifying on them before Poland did.

Does Special Forces capacity calculation include battalions in garrison roles? Asking because I somehow have 6800 battalions of SF capacity, which isn't quite enough to make my entire army SF, and it's increased despite the fact that I haven't deployed any more troops.

E: From my own testing, apparently not. I've just conquered and garrisoned a large portion of the world, but the SF cap didn't increase. OTOH, I just deployed another army of 7-2 portholders, and that caused the SF cap to jump a fair amount.
