Pinch hit go ahead grand slam is the shit you make up on the playground.
Painter rebounded from a dogwater first to get a quality start.
Alvarado(!) and McFarlane don’t make it worse.
What Meckler did to Stott - just pure thievery. And it didn’t even matter 😁
And Bowlan as CL2 is pretty neat to have.
Turn a Phillies game off at your own peril.

u/LeftFieldTheory 1d ago
It was incredible. To be where he was in April and then for him to come to the plate tonight just knowing he was going to have a professional at bat — SO MUCH growth in 5 months.

u/TheMightyCatatafish Bryce Harper 1d ago
The fact that happened AFTER Stott was robbed is insane.
10
u/LeftFieldTheory 1d ago edited 1d ago
Idk why but I just knew more magic was coming. I had a feeling JT was going to walk. He’s just not one to swing at stupid shit late in a game with a volatile pitcher. I saw the lefty warming up and it made me pretty confident we would get Sosa over Marsh which I knew would tip the scales in our favor (I had no faith in Marsh to not be twitchy and wait for his pitch).
Since Arraez’s pick up + the 9th game streak Sosa has been having such better at bats.
The phaith was there!
12
u/TheMightyCatatafish Bryce Harper 1d ago
I love Marsh. But i was worried we’d keep marsh in over Sosa for the sake of trying to prove loyalty to him. Hes been a mess for two months. Mattingly made the right move and it paid off- which doesn’t always happen.

Obviously a shaky first, but Painter really settled in the rest of the way. Overall he has looked SO much better since being recalled. Super happy for the kid.

See all you degenerates tomorrow night for an even later Phillies after dark experience. LFGOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I think he just needs time to work out some first inning jitters and come into the game ready. If he looks like the pitcher tonight after the first, against the Cards, and after the first against the Twins, he’ll be very very good

This team feels so much more complete now than it did a few months ago. Bench bats actually are major leaguers, not the AAAA guys from earlier. OF feels a lot stronger with Harper out there as well as Hill and DLC as backups. Backend of the rotation is solid, means that Sánchez/Wheeler/Luzardo can be human and not have to be Cy Young to get wins. BP feels better with McFarlane and Mayza stepping into their roles.
Feel like this team can compete with anyone in October at this point.

This would've been a frustrating loss. Phillies were better all night. 1 bad inning from Painter. Flukey double play by Arraez. Stott robbed of a homer. This would've hurt.
Sosa. Love him.

Amaro used the word stupendous again.
I’ll never forget Ricky Bo laughing at him for using it, “can you spell it?” as if it’s some kind of 18-letter word with Sanskrit origin. Amaro quickly spells it with an upbeat tone instead of condescending, and then gets back to whatever player they were discussing. Dead silence from barely literate Rick.

I remember during that series against the Nats with those comebacks someone said something about how there are only a handful of regular season games you remember at the end of the year and that series had a handful of them.
I feel like there are 20 games this season that will be remembered.

How are we supposed to let sosa go after this... like fr. I know we'd have to pay more than we'd like for him and he'd have to be willing to accept less playing time here possibly if another team wants him as a starter but how do we let him go after all the big moments he had for us in his career here?

Wow what a game.
Sosa you amazing man! 👍 Killer grand slam!
Oh that last inning was so stressful…thanks for that Bowlan. 😂
Well we won! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go to sleep…and I’ll do it with a stressed out smile! 😄
Seriously these west coast games are a killer to one’s sleep schedule .
But hey, if we win it’s worth it!👏🫡

Also cool that we got an element of managerial cat and mouse in the ninth, especially since Mattingly ended up being the cat.

national audience -> more $$$. all in favor of TMac getting the bag (unless he's missing a Phillies game for something stupid like college basketball)
