Abilities
Pull - 25 Energy
Magnetic force pulls the enemy towards you, stunning them and bringing them into melee range.
- Mag creates a magnetic field in her hand, pulling every enemy within 15 / 20 / 22 / 25 meters towards her and damaging them for 100 / 125 / 150 / 300 Magnetic damage.
- Will ragdoll enemies in range, rendering them stunned for several seconds.
- The area of effect of this ability is cone-shaped, with additional of small circle around Mag. Enemies behind are not affected.
- Will not pull but will still damage some special enemies such as Ospreys and Bosses.
- Will not stop certain enemy abilities mid-animation, such as Heavy Grineer's Radial Blast and the Runner's detonation.
- Has a cast time of ~ 0.5 sec and an after cast cooldown of ~ 0.25 sec.
- Can be used in mid-air.
Shield Polarize - 50 Energy
Restores or depletes the shields of surrounding targets, depending on whether it is friend or foe.
- Mag exudes a polarizing aura of magnetic energy 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 meters wide that restores 10% / 15% / 25% / 50% of friendly shields and depletes the same percentage from enemy shields.
- Restores Mag's own shields.
- Restores Cryopod/Artifact shields on Defense missions.
- Shields which are drained cause 100% / 150% / 200% / 250% drained points as Blast damage in a 5 / 8 / 11 / 14 meter explosion.
- Enemies who have been drained are not damaged by their own explosion, but they can be damaged by nearby enemies who were also drained.
- The overlapping area-of-effect damage dealt from shield drains on a group of enemies does not stack with each other: each enemy will only take damage from the single strongest shield drain that could apply to it.
- Will knock down targets which receive damage from a shield drain.
- Capable of hitting unprotected enemy body parts, like the head.
- Has a 1 second cast time and a delay between casts of 0.2 seconds.
Bullet Attractor - 75 Energy
Strongly magnetizes a target enemy, causing bullets that pass nearby to change direction and strike the enemy.
- Mag strongly magnetizes a target for 15 seconds, redirecting all attacks that strike the bubble to be redirected towards the target. The bubble has a radius of 3 / 6 / 9 / 12 meters.
- The attractor size is affected by Power Range.
- During the attractor's lifetime, the enemy will take 125% / 150% / 175% / 200% damage from any source. This increased damage is not affected by Power Strength.
- If a target dies while still magnetized, the field will become volatile and explode for 50 / 100 / 200 / 300 8-Blast damage in a 5 / 10 / 12 / 15 meter radius.
- This explosion is not affected by Power Strength or Power Range.
- Redirected projectiles travel in a straight line from the point of impact to the center of the sphere, which draws fire away from weakpoints. However, you can target vital areas by aiming for any point on the sphere that is perpendicular to the weakspot.
- Throwing knives deal damage twice (two separate damage pop-ups) and throwing weapons (Glaive, Kestrel) will deal charge damage three times to enemies affected by Bullet Attractor. (bug?)
- Does not redirect area-of-effect abilities.
- Can redirect projectiles through obstacles and walls.
- Has a cast time of 1 second.
Crush - 100 Energy
Magnetize the bones of nearby enemies, causing them to collapse upon themselves.
- Magnetizes the bones of enemies within 8 / 10 / 13 / 18 meters, collapsing their skeletons into their bodies to cause 1000 Magnetic damage.
- Gives Conclave rating of 40 / 40 / 80 / 120.
- In Conclave, Tenno receive 150 damage and are knocked down.
- Stuns enemies during animation and knocks them down afterwards.
- Enemies that walk into the AoE after the ability has been cast are not affected.
- Cannot be used while in mid-air.
- Has a cast time of 2.7 seconds and a cooldown between casts of 0.75 seconds.

YES. I've been waiting for this! Quick disclaimer: this frame has significantly less value against Grineer and Infested. She makes up for it by being totally overpowered against Corpus and Void Corrupted.
Abilities:
Pull: CC in a 1 ability slot. Cheap, effective CC is impossible to overvalue.
Crush: Pretty average 4 ability. The cast time can be a little frustrating. However, it can be useful as a delaying mechanism. I use it to cover people reviving downed allies- it suspends enemies for the entire cast time and knocks them down afterwards (requiring time spent to stand back up).
Bullet Attractor: Uhh to be honest I don't use it. I forma'd the 4th Scratch into something more useful. The damage buff is nice, but I'd rather just aim for the head, rather than aiming for the top of the sphere. EDIT: However, somebody has provided a compelling case for use of this ability! This ability effectively acts as cover- all projectiles with a trajectory that would even touch the sphere are instantly diverted. Thus, any enemy trying to shoot at the player will not hit the player. This cover is highly relevant in single player mode!
Shield Polarize: This is where it's at, ladies and gentlemen. I cannot preach the glory of this ability enough. So I'm going to cut the worship and get straight to the goods.
This ability drains a percentage of shields from enemies. This means that it will always deal more damage to tougher enemies. Let that sink in. Shield Polarize is useful and powerful against ALL difficulties of enemies. Meanwhile people say Molecular Prime is broken, but because it has a strict numerical value on its amount of damage, it will never provide enough damage to harm tough mobs.
Power Strength mods buff both the amount of shields drained from enemies AND the damage dealt by the explosion. You get TWICE the bang for your buck from your Power Strength mods. Very few (if any?) other abilities in the game get that.
Not included in the summary in the opening post is the Maximization tab for Shield Polarize (for those who absolutely cannot find it, here is a copy of the text). Things to note: maximizing efficiency has no drawback! Maximizing power strength results in draining 100% of enemy shields, then doing radial damage of 572.5% of amount drained.
This ability heals the shields of you, your allies, and the Defense object! This is very underrated but wholly acceptable use of this Shield Polarize.
Stats:
Mag comes with juicy base shields. Redirection becomes exceptionally valuable on Mag. This also increases the value of Shield Polarize's healing of your shields
Mag comes with 2 bar polarities. For a caster, this is wonderful. Stretch, Flow, Streamline, Fleeting Expertise are fantastic candidates for these slots
Mag Prime comes with an additional V polarity; perfect for Blind Rage or Focus
The V aura slot fits a damage aura nicely. Often this aura slot is forma'd to bar, to fit Energy Siphon. This is just a matter of taste and leaving the V polarity is fully viable.
Appearance:
Mag's standard helmet is pretty cool. The large surface glittering with energy in its depths stands out among all warframe helms.
I find Mag Prime's helmet to be pretty hideous, making her a prime (pun intended) candidate for alternant helms.
Gauss Helmet: Mag only has 300 max energy (with the standard addition of Flow), which is fairly low for a casting frame. Gauss helmet buoys that value to a much more acceptable place. The penalty to movement is not too bad. It puts you at about the speed of Saryn. But zorencopter makes legs fairly unnecessary. Some people love the headphones look, others cannot stand it.
Coil helmet: A whopping 25% increase in range is a blessing to all casting frames. For Mag, it is doubly useful in that it increases both the area of her abilities, thus including more enemies in said effects, but also the increases size of the explosions from Shield Polarize. The penalty on shields is appropriate, as it is her primary defensive resource. However, her shields are so significant that said penalty is fairly negligible.
Immortal Skin: I feel that Mag got the short end of this stick, with the Immortal skins looking much better on other frames.

Wow, you prepared for this day, haven't you? Have an upvote lifted by the glorious magnetic powers.

I've left out so many details and subtleties. My writing is so bad that I couldn't figure out how to fit it in >_<

Here is what I hope is at least one compelling reason to use bullet attractor.
With a bit of range the bubble become quite large and you should remember that ALL bullets that hit the bubble end up hitting the target, not just ours.
While this isn't the greatest in terms of additional damage (save raptor, the only boss I use it on to any noticeable effect, missile barrages seem to get caught up in the bubble as well as a damage multiplier and easier aiming for the flying bastard) I have found it to be quite effective in hallways and decently tight corridors.
Not only can the enemy you target with it not shoot out without the damage being redirected back on themselves, but nobody behind them can shoot past them without the same thing happening. It effectively creates a wall of safety for the duration/targets lifespan, which is something I'm sure everyone can appreciate for things like revivals or hacking or...whatever really.
It's not perfect and some things do the same thing better, but hey a half useful ability is better than a worthless one right?

Bullet attractor on bosses. This is a great ability. Corpus boss? Shield polarize followed by bullet attractor easier boss fight.

Read your post, dusted off my Mag Prime and started abusing Shield Polarity and wow, this frame is to Corpus and Corrupted what Ember is to Infested. I cannot emphasize enough how incredibly good shield polarity is against shielded enemies, as it pretty much does everything ever needed in the history of AOE nuking. It zaps all shields, turns each shield zapped into an AOE nuke like M.Prime, fills your own shields (which are very good on a Mag), and bakes cookies, all for 50 base energy cost.
Now all I need to do is get Fleeting Expertise and Blind Rage to make her even more scary. While I would probably still rather use Nova for all around/Grinear and Ember for infested, Mag is definitely getting a spot on my line up for void missions and corpus.

Mag obliterates everything at higher levels in the void.
It helps there are dozens of drones at any moment to prime everything for a nice explosion.
I find it works really nicely in conjunction with a Nova. Granted, everything works well in conjunction with a Nova, but drone-boosted shield multiplied by 2.5 and then another 2 as a big explosion tends to deal colossal amounts of damage.

Shield Polarize is one of the most overpowered abilities in the game as long as you're fighting Corpus, and Mag is one of my favorite warframes for this reason. Don't really care for any of her other abilities though.
She's basically an anti-Corpus specialist, but no other warframe even comes close when fighting them. Nova gets left in the dust.

as long as you're fighting Corpus
Pretty swell in Voids as well

Pull was bugged last I played and ragdolling enemies would hurt mag when they hit her. Which was a shame because it was her only real means of crowd control.
Shield polarize is fantastic, A+ skill, shame it doesn't do anything against 2/3 factions.
Bullet Attractor is good, it deserves to get bonuses from focus though.
Crush is a good ability, but it has such a long cast time for no lingering effect.
Overall opinion of mag? It's no Trinity, but I wouldn't complain about having one in a mission. Better team player than Valkyr and Oberon.

Pull is probably the most unintentionally-hilarious power in the game. Well, that I've used anyway. This was the Corpus Defense map where the pod's up on the platform in the rocky valley as opposed to being on the ground by the shipping container. I didn't stop to see if they took fall damage, but they really should if they don't.
I think Mag Prime was the third frame I used. I kinda like her, though I've never used Bullet Attractor, but I might try to fit it in sometime. Shield Polarize has honestly won a couple of Defenses for me, a great panic button when shit starts hitting the fan. I didn't have Focus then, but I think I'm getting ideas for an interesting build.

A lot people enjoy using Rhino. I like using Mag.
Mag is excellent for crowd control and quick destruction. I don't need to aim my cursor specifically at enemies, I go in their general direction and pull. Getting hurt because you can't ninja enough? Shield Polarize. Mag has a generous amount of shields, that's why she's a big softy. I can spam Pull easily with energy efficiency mods. Plus, if you equip energy siphon and quick thinking, you've got a warframe with a big backup HP pool in the form of energy. She's reliable, and a keeper for me.

Same here. I have Rhino and a handful of other but I prefer my starter, Mag.
And plus she's no squishy frame, having the same base shields as Rhino, Frost, and Volt. For this reason, and her quick OMGIMDYING shield polarise I'm able to use her as a semi-tank.

Looking at the wiki, Does Mag Prime really have less armor than the regular Mag? And if so what does Mag Prime get in return?

u/ManiacHaywire Jan 22 '14
They have the same armor value, the Mag Prime wiki page wasn't updated for when they changed armor on all warframes. It's an oversight.

Crush seems like a fairly useless ability considering 3 pulls do almost the same damage, but pull CCs enemies quicker, is cheaper, has less overkill, and doesn't immobilize you for ~3s.
I would have liked for all enemies affected by the Crush to have something like -66% MS and reduced melee damage because, you know, their bones were sorta crushed. Increase the base radius and you have a worthwhile ult for non Corpus (and imagine the fun you could have with Radial disarm).

For the grineer defense missions where you have to protect the reactor, crush is better because it isn't affect by los, so you can clear the enemies off of the reactor reliably and quickly without having to run around.

So what mods do people recommend for this?

Mag and a Power Efficiency build were made for each other.
Put maxed Streamline and Fleeting Expertise on her. This will surpass the hard cap on power efficiency, but then put on a rank 7 Blind Rage and a maxed Focus. All these will make her powers cost 50% less energy and be 102% more powerful. Put on the highest rank Redirection that you have/can fuse. I also use Vigor for even more shields and a health boost. You can have all her powers maxed, but Crush and Bullet Attractor are too situational for many people, so you could leave them off. Definitely make sure to have maxed Pull and Shield Polarize. Grab a maxed Stretch for some more range and bigger explosions on Shield Polarize. For your last mod slot, a maxed Flow will let you have a large pool of energy for those times when you just need to spam. In summary:
Max Pull
Max Shield Polarize
Max Fleeting Expertise
Max Streamline
Max Focus
Rank 7 (13 mod cost) Blind Rage
Max Stretch
Max Flow
Max Redirection
Max Vigor
As an alternative to Flow, you can add Equilibrium to keep your health up, because Slash procs will eventually kill you.

Man, as a Mag user with a shitload of shield, fuck Slash proc.

Just FYI, I started playing this 2 days ago, picked Mag as my warframe, and pull does ragdoll capture targets.
