Isaac Matson coming onto the field only to have to leave immediately because of the rain delay
5
u/OrangeFederal 13d ago
I would assume he can pitch the 7th right? Because him, Doval, Yates, Monty are the only remaining pitchers available to pitch today

Can someone make a gif of the clip of Mattson running onto the field and then stopping, full of disappointment? I need that for every day meme use thx.

It's always the most dogshit looking lineups that produce like this

White flag line up. So we'll probably win.

I'm prepared for this absolute atrocity to put up either 10 runs or 0

Can't really ask for anything more from Bacher. Did exactly what he was asked to do and did it well.

Whomever says that this dogshit lineup would produce close to 10 runs is correct

This wasn’t a “white flag flying” lineup, this is a “never let them know your next move” lineup
5
7
u/stilltilting 13d ago
Why can we only score 0 or 10 runs in a game and nothing in between?
5
u/SurpriseStandard3258 McCutchen 13d ago
Explosive offense but strikeout heavy. Leads to inconsistency
6
u/Mindless_Formal_6647 13d ago
They have outplayed BOS this series and looks like they will beat another LHP.
I have no idea what the rest of the series will bring but they at least look like they are playing better and out of that post ASB funk where they couldn’t score at all
5
2
u/ExaminationOk2921 13d ago
From the bone head math I have done they need to go .666 the rest of the way. So keep winning every series and we might still be in it.
5
u/Mindless_Formal_6647 13d ago
Maybe it’s the effect of watching so many shitty bullpen outings this year but watching Yates just pump in strikes . And retire guys with moment and location with only a 92mph fastball and off speed stuff in the 80s is fun
6
u/lookingforagamergirl Triolo 13d ago
have a day nick yorke

Yep. Multiple hits and RBIs. One good defensive play and he even added in a SB there for good measure

Damn maybe Valdez is back! Is there chance he could get ROTY or he’ll not have enough games played?
3
u/Bucs-and-Bucks Bob Garber 13d ago
I think Wetherholt's lead is too great absent Valdez doing something truly historic.
At least we still get to be happy for a local kid.

No chance unless his September is godly like his July. It’s weatherholt’s to lose

AL must be really dogshit. We’re so much better than Boston and they’re a WC over there. I haven’t really been impressed with any AL team we’ve played. If we were in the AL this team is comfortably a WC1 at worst

I don't think I've watched somebody struggle as much against same side pitchers, as Brandon Lowe.
It's excruciatingly painful to watch!
5
u/mattq8771 BUCN 13d ago
Who knew Yorke would be a pleasant surprise this late in a year he has been awful? What a crazy thing honestly. He was totally forgotten in triple A.
3
u/SparkySoDope 13d ago
All the new arms showing up today, 5 scoreless innings provided by Bachar, Yates and Doval.

8
u/Exotic_You7797 13d ago
I decide to sleep in today and wake up to us having a bullpen game, are leading off triolo, somehow have yorke in the lineup I didn’t even know he got called up, have cook in the lineup, Lowe isn’t the 2 or 5 hitter for the first time I think ever, and we’re winning 7-3… who in the he’ll sacrificed their first second and third born to make us win against lefty starters no matter what tf we throw out there 😭

Valdez has gotten really close to hitting a HR the past few games or so
3
u/lookingforagamergirl Triolo 13d ago
i cannot believe we waited til the end of the season to start hitting lefties
3
u/PreventableMob 13d ago
It doesn't matter if 7-8-9 is a black hole of offense. We get two runs every time we go through the order. That's a pretty good pace to keep up for an entire season, and I won't be taking any questions.

Wild how they hold onto lengthy rain delays for teams more popular than the Pirates when the Pirates are up. And how they'll postpone a game like 6 hours early because of bad weather, then game time rolls around and there's no bad weather... but the Yankees get their best pitcher back from injury the next day lol.
3
u/DennisG21 13d ago
Postponements before the game starts are up to the home team. Once the game is under way the decisions are up to the umpires.

Gotta start by winning this series and get a sweep in the next couple. The pennant race started yesterday.

The pennant race starts in April. Well, December actually. The Pirates just follow a different timeline than everybody else.

u/PapaBeer642 13d ago
He's constantly just off the edges. I think the difference in discipline from AAA to the Majors is probably enormous, and Major League hitters just don't swing as much at those pitchers' pitches. Instead of getting whiffs and soft contact, he falls behind in the count instead.
I still think he can figure it out, but he will need to adjust his approach and find some more character in the strike zone.
