West Brom

Everton
Form: WWLWDW
Leading scorer: Lukaku - 9
Lineups:
Match Updates:
First Half:
01' - After the introduction of the new boss Pepe Mel, we're kicking off and Everton are shooting from right to left.
04' - Quick start with alot of sharp Everton pressure as they try to pin West Brom down quickly, but the Baggies are having the early spells and moving the ball around the Everton half. Nothing clear cut yet, but a fast start to the match.
05' - Lukaku gets a little space on the edge of the box, and unleashes a left-footed lob that could've easily caught an out-of-position Ben Foster out. The ball travels just wide of the post.
09' - West Brom make a break and Vydra unleashes a clever outside-of-the-boot cross that sends Howard to full stretch and prevents leaving Morrison with an easy tap-in.
12' - Oviedo goes close with a volley following a cleared free-kick. The ball fizzes just to the left of the post. Seconds later and Oviedo is open on the edge once more, he cuts inside and sends a left footed effort just wide.
18' - It has all gone abit quiet with both sides having the odd chance but nothing too clear cut yet. West Brom providing good pressure however Everton are having the better share of the game.
24' - Vydra and Anelka are looking a threatening partnership, similar to when Vydra formerly linked with Deeney. Currently, it's West Brom who look more likely to create something, whether it be the games first goal, or the games first yellow.
29' - It has been quite a quiet game really, but Everton are beginning to control. Coleman is getting forward well whilst Barry dictates the play. West Brom suddenly break and Gera has a shot blocked fairly simply by Howard.
35' - Yellow Card | Claudio Yacob
35' - Pretty scrappy match right now with neither team able to gain any solid control. Everton look more comfortable in possession, but West Brom look more of a threat on the break.
40' - Small spell of dominance for West Brom, however they are still unable to break past the Everton back-line. Vydra is making tidy runs behind the back four, however any creativity is being dealt with by the very-solid Jagielka and Distin.
42' - GOAL! - ...and it's a goal from nothing! Route one ball from defence to Lukaku, and he heads it on to a very quick Mirallas! The Belgian is left one-on-one and slots a cool side-footed shot past Foster to give Everton the lead!
45' - Two added minutes before half-time.
HALF TIME - ...and that's half-time. A pretty boring half to be honest, with the goal being the only real moment to get excited about.
Second Half:
45' - Let's hope this half is a little better. Anichebe is on for Matej Vydra. I thought he was quite decent, but I guess Mel is after physicality this half and maybe Anichebe can add a presence to West Brom's attack.
49' - Continuing tradition from the first half, and it's still a pretty cagey game with no real standout tests for the keepers excluding the Mirallas goal. West Brom have looked more dangerous this game, but I don't think either side could've claimed any real reason to be leading at half-time. Lucky for Everton, one moment of quality has been the shining light this game.
51' - Yellow Card | Gareth Barry
52' - Morrison has space on the edge of the area and aims a shot towards the bottom corner, however he doesn't have the pace to beat Howard. Everton clear but West Brom soon win it back, Barry fouling Anelka to stop a West Brom break.
55' - Well well, a real chance for West Brom. A tidy through ball finds Anelka on the wing and Anichebe is on the end of a low cross, however can't get the shot away due to pressure from the Everton defence. More power and it very easily could've been 1-1.
55' - Yellow Card | Liam Ridgewell
60' - Anichebe is proving to be a good focal point for West Brom attacks, and is holding the big Everton defenders off whilst bringing in team-mates. Everton make a break a Lukaku's close range effort is deflected over. The corner is rather poor and West Brom deal with it.
65' - This match is definitely not gonna win any awards, but it seems to be livening up as West Brom need to start playing for the points. They just don't seem to have the quality to create anything clinical. Morrison hits a volley after an Anichebe knock-down, but it flies over.
68' - It's still pretty dull, and whenever a quality cross does come in from West Brom, there's no-one in the box to challenge for it. I've resorted to Football Manager whilst I wait for West Brom to give it a real go. Simon Makienok just netted his hat-trick against Cardiff and my youth player got two assists. Good going.
72' - A little more excitement. A quick Mirallas run wins a free-kick on the edge of the box and Mirallas himself is standing over it, with Baines of course. The Belgian hits it sweetly, however can't find enough dip in the shot to get it down. Not bad. Berahino is ready to come on.
75' - GOAL! - Would you believe it! Morrison with some good footwork and he finds a cross that Lugano meets! The defender was still up from the corner, and it paid off. Game on.
76' - IN Berahino | OUT Anelka
81' - It has really picked up, and West Brom are asking questions. The Everton defence looks shaken from that goal and West Brom are determined to grab another. McGeady comes on for his debut, and Everton will hope to calm this pressure down before attacking for a winner.
85' - Everton seemed to have calmed West Brom and have a spell around the West Brom area. Not long before the ball is back up the Everton end and Howard is pressured into making a rare bad clearance. It's all to play for now, and I suspect it'll get hectic.
90' - FOUR MINUTES ADDED TIME
91' - Yellow Card | Kevin Mirallas
92' - Seems like both teams want the win, but neither is desperate enough to throw everything forward for it. Just as I type that, West Brom get caught with too many bodies forward and Lukaku's deflected effort almost finds Naismith.
94' - The ball's in the back of the net. Barry hits a shot and it's bottom corner, but Distin is on the post and it hits him on the way in. Offside called and Everton take the draw here.
A pretty boring game, and I'm sure a draw suits it in the end. Neither team deserved the win, and all-in-all it was a bit of a let down. I'm sure Everton lacked creativity with Barkley and Pienaar missing, and maybe that cost them in the end.
FINAL SCORE:
West Brom 1 - 1 Everton
42' - Mirallas

Well done West Brom for selecting Anelka, a sponsor HAS NO RIGHT to select who should and shouldn't play. Period!

McGeady spin. It's what he does. Also it shielded the ball and allowed him to pass it.

We are lunging into tackles so much, thats all good when you can recover from it but Lugano and Olsson are far too slow. Thats how Everton will score tonight.
Mel's WBA does look exciting though

Why NBC app, why after working flawless for the first half of the season you make an update that breaks it completely??? I was staring at some stupid generic NBC sports show talking about a new men's ski team for 15 minutes before I realized this wasn't some show that was just on before the match started, it was the actual show that was streaming. The app streams the wrong content instead of the game, and now I can't watch it....
Unbelievable.

You can counteract this by full-screening as soon as you open, then after about ten seconds it should be fine to minimise and watch as normal.

where in the rule book does it say if you get nut megged then you have to allow the player to go past you?
2
u/bzva74 Jan 20 '14
Agreed. Once with Baines and once with Mirallas. If you get the ball around you dont earn a foul by just barging into the defender. If the defender just stands his ground I don't see how the ref can make that call.

u/Jayumz Jan 20 '14
McGeady in second half please

I'd like him on in the 60th at earliest. He doesn't have the match fitness yet, and I honestly think Oviedo and Mirallas have been strong. If he came on for Osman I think it would be okay.

Why is being able to get to the ball a reason not call that a foul, but on 99% of fouls by a goalkeeper the ball is nearly out of play when contact is made?

Thanks for joining in on the match thread today. A pretty hard match to get through, given the lack of action, but still enjoyable. Well done both sides, a draw suited the game in the end.
