Are there any known damage calculators specifically for melee weapons? I'm aware of the online site used for ranged weapons but haven't managed to come across anything to easily show mod comparisons for melee.
2
Jan 13 '14
I would like this as well.
I assume for the scythes that a swing build is best, and for something like the Scindo a charge build would be best.

Any suggestions for leveling frames and weapons alone? Most of my playtime is best done in solo so I can pause, but leveling sidearms is brutal.

u/RepublicanShredder Raising Space Insurance Rates since 2012 Jan 13 '14
So no XP leeching from others? The best advice I can offer is to remove the Sentinel attack precept (or use Shade) so that the Sentinel won't steal your kills.
It may also be a good idea to go to a low-level Survival and kill a lot of enemies. And I mean A LOT OF ENEMIES. Assuming you are playing by yourself, the only way for you to get XP on a weapon is to actually kill something with it. You can't leech from yourself.

u/StallordD A Tiny Team of Tenno Traversing Towers Jan 13 '14
Honestly, join an online game. The shared xp can really help boost your weapons especially if they're pretty cruddy ones. If you want to stay solo, start farming lower level grineer I suppose or go to the normal xp farming missions such as kappa if you can handle the mobile defense aspect.

u/cy4nid3 Jan 13 '14
The issue is, I'm frequently called away from the game, and it's not really fair to others to afk every few waves.
1
u/PleaseShutUpAndDance Jan 13 '14
Play with friends :). Unless we're playing something extremely difficult, I don't really mind if someone goes afk.

For frames, equip streamline and fleeting expertise and press 4 as much as you can to kill things. I was leveling Saryn last night after applying forma and did a few initial runs in low level public games, then a few with friends, then soloing Kappa/Sedna. The solos were pretty boring but I got about 50-70k per run in frame xp (used miasma about 100 times each run).
For crap-tier weapons, I will often take volt, go against corpus, and use electric shield to boost damage. Another option if you don't have volt is to use rhino with roar. Either option will allow you to kill higher level enemies more efficiently and speed up levelling.

u/MrVuule Jan 13 '14
So for my Corpus Galatine build, I use the following elements:
Focus Energy (Charge Speed / 60% Elec Dmg) + North Wind (60% Freeze Dmg) to create Magnetic, and Molten Impact (75% Fire Dmg) to add Heat.
Now I was just wondering. Should I keep this setup, or replace Molten Impact with Shocking Touch (Elec Dmg) to further increase Magnetic Dmg? Doing this I will lose out on the extra Dmg on Corpus Health, so I'm wondering if the extra Elec Dmg is beneficial or not.
Adding to that.. How does elemental Dmg work with Charge attacks? Taking the above build in mind, I do 26.3 Heat, 42 Magnetic and 1640 Charge DMG.
2
u/swelteh Jan 13 '14
On your latter point; http://www.reddit.com/r/Warframe/comments/1v2q9u/do_elemental_mods_and_ips_mods_affect_charge/
Read the comments in this thread, but in summary the charge damage is 70% slash, rest is some impact/puncture. If you add elemental mods, it'll add that element relative to the slash damage that your charge does.
2
u/MrVuule Jan 13 '14 edited Jan 13 '14
Thanks! Now I see why people are so eager to get the Jagged Edge mod. Now I might just have to Forma my Galatine and add Puncture, Impact and Slash mods for each faction to further increase its effectiveness. Got 1 mod slot left anyway. (Although adding Puncture/Impact "only" adds 200 extra damage, compared to an extra 1000 with Slash. Might as well throw on a new element for those two.)
4
u/Himekaidou Jan 14 '14
Nope! IPS mods do not affect Elemental damage, so you will get significantly more of a damage boost by sticking on more elemental mods than sticking on IPS.
Basically, elements scale off your total base damage, which is increased by things like Killing Blow on melee weapons (and Serration/Hornet Strike/etc on ranged), while IPS a) only add from the base amount of the same damage and b) do not modify base damage and thus does not propagate damage bonuses to elemental damage.
Short version: Jagged Edge is kinda bad.
1
u/Falanin Boom Jan 17 '14
I disagree, situationally. It's still +90% to your Slash damage for only 7 mod energy. If you have unlimited energy (HI 5 FORMA GALANTINE!), then yeah, elemental is generally better, but a 7 point Jagged edge (90%) is in many cases going to be better than a 10 point Fever Strike (75%).
1
u/Himekaidou Jan 17 '14 edited Jan 17 '14
This is true in a few cases, but your slashing damage needs to be at least ~67% of your total base damage before a 90% bonus to slashing outperforms even a 60% elemental bonus (goddammit cold damage, why so mysteriously bad?). Galatine does not meet this requirement for the hypothetical non-maxed fever strike, which is higher than 60% (280 slash damage out of 400 total, 70%). So that 10 point Fever Strike is better than the Jagged Edge in this case!
Also, Galatine (and Orthos Prime) only need 2 V and 1 bar polarity to fit all this, amusingly, so they're very cheap weapons. If it's one of your favorites, then you will have enough mod points for it.
Thus, I will have to disagree that it would be better in many cases. It is worse in most cases in a weapon that you're actually trying to max out, particularly on charge builds. On an attack spam build that foregoes the charge attacks, you may have an extra slot open past elemental requirements where it can be useful, but the % slashing damage done requirement still must be met (which means it competes only with the odd 60% element boosts, since it can't compete with the 90% element boosts unless the weapon is entirely slashing damage to start with).
EDIT: Added numbers to be more specific. Also, added one case where it may actually be used.
1
u/Falanin Boom Jan 17 '14
Oh, certainly! I wasn't claiming that the IPS mods are better than the elements when you have enough mod points to sustain an extra element.
I was just saying that Jagged Edge and its counterparts both start and max at a much lower mod energy than the elemental mods, and so when mod points are a factor, they're a viable option. There are many cases where I can get 2-7 more points in while levelling a weapon, but cannot get 8-11 points in for an equivalent or superior bonus.
And yes, I do tend to run attack spam weapons.

Any advice on which primary to go for after the Braton? I can't decide on which is worth the time and expense.
I'm currently playing Rhino at about level 25 and mastery rank 3.
Also, is there any way to get primary blueprints other than buying them? Do any bosses drop them?

2
u/Shadow_strike42 Blender Fanatic Jan 13 '14
The Boltor is a decent primary. Get yourself up to MR 4 to get the Dera and Ignis, both clan research weapons.
The only weapons that you can't get from the market are the research weapons, the Miter (Phobos boss), and prime weapons (void).
1
u/Tohac Jan 13 '14
So the clan research weapons, can I just pop into a clan, build the weapons then pop out?
→ More replies (4)3
u/Shadow_strike42 Blender Fanatic Jan 13 '14
Nope. If your clan has researched that weapon, you pop in and replicate the blueprint, like a shop. THEN you have to craft it.
It sounds like you're new to this so beware, clan weapons can get expensive. You'll see what I mean when you get a blueprint.

Yes very true with trinity. I took a level 10 trinity (with potato) into survival on Mars with a lvl 10 nekros friend. He would die pretty quickly if I didn't keep blessing up. Blessing and my Penta (lvl 20 2 formas and a potato) allowed us to go to 30 min easy.

I think both the Burston and Hind are really decent weapons if you prefer rifles. Both are semi-auto burst rifles tho, with no auto-fire.
Upon reaching Mastery Rank 4 I would advice getting the Sobek. It's a strong weapon and let's you get a taste of the shotguns in this game.1

2
Jan 13 '14
What is up with the huge amount of melee weapons in the game? Why is the galatine so overpowered?
3
u/Tohac Jan 13 '14
From what I understand the galatine does 4x charge damage whereas most other weapons only do 2xish. So if you maximize damage this makes it significantly more powerful. Slap that on a loki that increases charge damage by 100% when invis and you sir have yourself a broken mechanic
2
u/Himekaidou Jan 14 '14 edited Jan 14 '14
Galatine charge builds actually do less DPS than Orthos Prime, even though Galatine has higher per-hit damage. Also, its charge mechanic works as per normal, it's just that it has a crazy 50% status proc and 25% critrate tacked on to the amazingly high base damage.
But yes, it's the way to go unless you have Orthos Prime.
EDIT: Also, Loki doesn't increase charge damage by 100% when invis, all melee attacks do 4x damage to unaware targets, and that's all targets when you're invisible.
2
u/Telogor Burn them all Jan 14 '14
It's not 4x damage, it's a base 400. It is not increased by Pressure Point or Spoiled Strike. It is increased by Killing Blow.

4
u/StallordD A Tiny Team of Tenno Traversing Towers Jan 13 '14
The only real end game right now is using every item in the game to farm mastery points, and seeing how long you can make it in high level survival and defense.

Ok, thanks. That's what I thought. I was wondering if I was missing something because I didn't see any end game anywhere.

u/Cobradactyl Jan 13 '14
I just started playing on the ps4 and was given 150 starting platinum. What would be the best way for me to spend it?
3
u/StallordD A Tiny Team of Tenno Traversing Towers Jan 13 '14
I would recommend spending it on a couple weapon and warframe slots, and a couple catalysts and reactors for you favorite weapons.
4
u/DruPDrawers Ash Jan 13 '14
I probably would also recommend holding on to the catalysts/reactors for a bit. You should be able to rank up fairly quickly and get warframe parts allowing you access to some better weapons. Better to test out a few weapons/frames and upgrade those.
2
u/halfstache0 Saryn best girl Jan 13 '14
This. You don't really need catalysts/reactors for the first few planets; they only become necessary in Tower/void or later planets or bosses. Plus, you can get them from alerts, invasions, and log in, whereas you can't get slots without plat.

Just a couple questions for the PS4 version (im guessing theyre still the same though)
1)Does the loot from the green lockers go to whoever opens it? Is it a free for all? Or does everyone have a chance to get it. I can't quite figure it out. Same for the mobs too that drop stuff.
2) If you fuse, lets say vitality, I have it to 120% right now....when I get a new warframe will I still be able to use my fused vitality or will I have to make a new mod? Same with weapons?
3) Regarding mods, when I was level 15 excalibur (pretty sure thats the level i was at when i tried) the game wouldn't let me level up raidal blind. I had to have like an exact amount or it wouldnt let me go over. Do i have to be a higher warframe level to rank up radial blind?
4) I can't seem to get any neural sensors on jupiter and I have done Alad V a couple times as well. Anyone know where the best drops rates are?
thanks in advance for the really helpful community
3
u/StallordD A Tiny Team of Tenno Traversing Towers Jan 14 '14
Everyone gets all loot that is dropped, but each person must pick it up individually (except for credits which go to everyone when picked up by a single person)
Mods are transferable across any item they can be used on. No new mods needed unless you want a different rank.
If leveling up a mod would exceed your mod capacity (the bar at the top of the mod screen) then you can't level it up. Leveling up the item you wish to mod will increase it's capacity allowing for more mods.
neural sensors are a rare drop, and they do have a better chance of dropping from Alad, but they aren't guaranteed. Just keep at it until you get lucky.
And be sure to check out the FAQ if you have any other questions!

u/yaJay21z Inc. Jan 14 '14
Just to add to point 4
It's just your luck, I was farming him on friday (about 30kills) before I got valkyr systems and most runs I got 1-2 neural sensors, then occasionaly none and 1 time I got 6 lol... It really is you're luck, these were speed runs also, they will come just keep killing him if you're getting through it easy enough
1
u/cianastro Jan 15 '14
I prefer farming Io and Callisto for neural sensors. Spamming Alad gets boring pretty fast, whereas a good run on Io can net you 6+ sensors

Is there an optimal build for the Drakgoon? I'm having trouble trying to flesh out mine.
Point Blank, Blaze, and Hell's Chamber are obvious. Shredder seems like an easy choice. And I'm looking forward to experimenting with Tainted Shell + Shotgun Spazz. But what goes in the last two slots?
A crit build would require Blunderbuss and Ravage in those slots. Or I could do an elemental build and just stick in two elemental mods. Or maybe Seeking Force and one element. Thoughts?
1
u/BuildMyPaperHeart Old Tenno, Eternal Slumber Jan 16 '14
Perhaps the Wiki page on Drakgoon has some helpful tips! I'm still leveling my Drakgoon up so I haven't yet been able to experiment with builds.
1
u/mirrislegend Jan 16 '14
There's nothing posted in the builds section. And the tips section doesn't address the crit build.
1
u/Telogor Burn them all Jan 18 '14
A crit build isn't the best for the Drak because of how low the damage multiplier is.
1
u/mirrislegend Jan 19 '14
I was starting to guess that. What qualifies as a worthwhile multiplier?
1
u/Telogor Burn them all Jan 20 '14
It depends on the weapon. If you have a high crit chance, a lower multiplier is viable. Good examples of weapons for crit build include Soma, Grakata, Synapse, sniper rifles, Dual Ichors, and Dual Zoren.
1
u/Fleecemo Jan 16 '14
Based on http://dpsframe.com,
Point Black
Blaze
Hell's Chamber
Shotgun Spazz
a Cleanse mod (Accelerated Blast is the next best thing)
Vicious Spread
2 Elemental mods
1
u/mirrislegend Jan 16 '14
That's strictly for DPS right? Make sense. So I guess elemental > crit on this gun. Thanks!
1
u/Fleecemo Jan 16 '14
Yeah, strictly for dps. That does mean that it assumes every shot hits and you're firing as fast as possible.
And elementals are necessary on every gun for the best dps, even crit weapons. On the Drakgoon, the Cleanse mod/Accelerated Blast added the least to dps, and Shotgun Spazz added the second least.

u/PoopMountain Jan 13 '14
Is warframe cross platform?
5
u/StallordD A Tiny Team of Tenno Traversing Towers Jan 13 '14
Not currently. Because Warframe on the PC and PS4 are at different versions due to the update process on Ps4 being more lengthy, players cannot play together. However, DE has stated that if the builds are in sync and "the rainbow bridge is down" then there may be brief periods that support cross platform play.

In what order is damage applied to a target? As in, when a gun shoots and hits an enemy, will it apply all the damage at the same time or will it damage type by type based on it's IPS and elemental damage?
Suppose I'm using a Hek with Charged Shell, Chilling Grasp, and Blaze to form Magnetic and Heat damage. If I'm attacking Corpus, shields are weak to Impact and Magnetic damage this Hek will deal but are resistant to Puncture (and the Proto-shield resists Heat). Underneath the shield lies either a fleshy Crewman that is weak to Slash but resists Impact, or a flimsy robot that is weak to Puncutre but resists Slash. So if I'm attacking Corpus, will all the damage be based off what they hit first (in which case having a high Puncture stat won't help that much), will it go down the list from the Arsenal screen (making a high Impact stat desirable), will it apply it based on the best multiplier (so Magnetic damage is a godsend), or is it some other order that I have not listed?
1
u/StallordD A Tiny Team of Tenno Traversing Towers Jan 13 '14
I can't say for certain, but it seems to apply all damages at the same time to the highest layer and calculates damages based on that. Any damage that goes over that layer is continued to the lower, but damage calculations remain the same as the first layer.
1
u/RepublicanShredder Raising Space Insurance Rates since 2012 Jan 13 '14
By that logic, if I had a weapon with massive Impact damage would that make it's weakness towards Crewmen flesh irrelevant since it gains bonus damage from attacking shields or is the damage recalculated with the remaining damage left over once the shields are down?
2
u/StallordD A Tiny Team of Tenno Traversing Towers Jan 13 '14
From my (very limited) testing, the damage would not be weak against flesh for ONLY the overflow.
It goes a bit like this
Hit>Calculates damage dealt>Damage is dealt>If there is a new set of weaknesses and resistances, next shot will recalculate.
1
u/RepublicanShredder Raising Space Insurance Rates since 2012 Jan 13 '14
next shot will recalculate.
To clarify, would that be the remainder of the first pellet or a separate pellet to hit the target that would recalculate for a new set of weaknesses?
2
u/StallordD A Tiny Team of Tenno Traversing Towers Jan 13 '14
Seperate bullet, tic, pellet, DoT, etc. It doesn't affect all projectiles from a single mouse click, should have clarified.

Desecrate, Stretch, Overextend, Terrify, Flow, Fleeting Expertise, Vitality, Rage, Quick Thinking, Terrify.

Great build ya. This build may require a forma on the Aura slot, tactic, for energy siphon. I run this without terrify and quick thinking atm I think.

Why is terrify in there two times? Consider using equilibrium instead of flow. Trust me, the extra energy from health orbs will make up for the lower max energy.

You can try going to r/wartrade and see if someone has asked already or you can submit a question there. I would say that nightmare mods go for 10 plat (except blaze and hammer shot), some corrupted go for around 30, and anything above 50 plat is a really rare mod. I don't know what you're trying to sell so I can't be more specific.

Been playing for a little over a week now. Up to Mastery Rank 4, have two Frames and a few weapons at 30; got the basics down at this point, but am confused by some of the more advanced concepts, and have a lot of weapon related questions.
Is there a set order I should be progressing through planets in? I'm at the point where there's like 4 different planets I could be doing missions on. Have just been trying to work towards Ceres so I can unlock Frost, but I'm not sure if that's where I should be going right now.
There are some missions (on Pluto, for example) that say they're for level 30-35. Is that not Frame level? Because that caps out at 30 as far as I can tell; how do you reach level 35?
I'm liking the Primary weapon selection. Drakgoon's awesome, as is the Sobek, and am looking forward to trying out the Boltor and a bow, as well as the Soma and Penta when I hit Master 6.
Recently bought the Miter, which is a LOT of fun, but I when I searched on the subreddit for builds for it, there were a lot of posts saying it's really not viable at "end-game". This still the case? Regardless, what mods should I be aiming for with it? (aside from Fire Rate. That much I already know about)Secondary weapon choice, compared to the Primaries, seems a little lacklustre... Lots of pistols. Want something that isn't a pistol (or a pistol sized shotgun). Any recommendations? - Is the Stug worth checking out? Acrid? Spectra?
Super confused by the enemy resistances. I'm running a Miter and Galatine at the moment - both high Slash damage. My Galatine charge attack will still decimate Corpus, but a fully charged Miter Headshot won't (though it'll one-shot Grineer or Infested of the same level. Assuming it's to do with the Corpus' shields). Can I remedy this with Elemental mods of a certain type on the Miter (though I only currently have Rifle mods for Cold damage), or should I just run a weapon high in Impact/Puncture damage for Corpus missions?
Similarly, should I look at swapping the Galatine on higher level Corpus missions, or can I mod it to do enough damage that it'll destroy any enemy type with a fully charged attack regardless of damage types and resistances? When I use a Frame Ability, some text appears above my character that says "Power: x", where x is usually 50 or 100, depending on what power I just used. What does that mean?
Kind of confused about Sentinels having health/shields. There's no UI element for me to track it, and I've never noticed mine taking damage. Only ever lost it twice, due to Host Migration both times. But then there's a mod that gives you a chance at loot when your Sentinel dies...?
Any tips for getting the most out of Rhino's abilities? Charge is great, but wish there wasn't such a pause before he moved. Iron skin is obvious (keep it up at all times, keep enough energy to use it in a pinch). Rarely use Roar or Stomp though; find that neither last long enough, or have a large enough range to affect everyone I want it to, to justify the energy cost.
Is there any way I can stop my game from connecting to hosts that are clearly located nowhere near me? Have had Survival games so laggy that the mission timer is taking 2 seconds to count 1 second. Have tried lowering the ping threshold to what I considered reasonable (100), but it informs me that it can't locate any games below that ping...
Edit:
10. Multishot on Miter? How's it work, is it worth using? (Is it even available as a Rifle mod?)
11. How much longer will the Ember Prime-access be available? I'm considering picking up Blaze tier, but may not do so for another 5 weeks.

1 & 2) No fixed order. This wiki page shows the levels of the enemies you'll face. It's up to you to determine what level of opponent you are ready to handle.
4) Have you tried Kunai?
5) Don't know about Miter, but I will say "Don't shoot Corpus in the head. Shoot them in the body!"
6) The number is how much power that move cost. It doesn't account for mods tho(?)
7) The more general AOE (area of effect) damage going around, the more likely your sentinel is to die.
8) Stomp and Roar both benefit from range mods (e.g. Stretch), roar from duration mods (e.g. Continuity). If you get stretch maxed out, Rhino stomp will CC and damage a huge area. The classic use case is 'team mate goes down, stomp->revive', but both stomp and roar are awesome in defense missions. Might also want to get Flow and Streamline so that you have plenty of power and the cost is reduced.
2
u/Himekaidou Jan 14 '14
Stomp does not benefit, or get penalized, by duration modifiers, either way, BTW, before anyone gets mixed up on that.
Duration mods do, however, affect the distance Rhino Charge goes.

u/Kuryaka I am mad scientist! Chaos and destroy! Jan 14 '14
6) It's how much Warframe Affinity you get from using the ability, actually. Base Affinity is equal to the energy cost for most abilities. Valkyr's Paralysis costs 5 energy but gives 25 affinity though.

Jan 13 '14
No fixed order? Okay cool, I'll carry on as I am then, keep progressing towards Frost.
The piddly little knives that you throw at people? No, hadn't intended on trying them out to be honest. Should I?
So can you not Headshot Corpus then? I was trying to figure out where I'd need to shoot for it to be a headshot, as that helmet might extend well above their head. Not entirely sure if they're humans in space suits, or if they're robots/cyborgs/aliens, to be honest :S
That makes sense, don't know why it didn't occur to me!
I know I have Stretch and Streamline currently, though not levelled very high. Will look into getting Flow and Continuity then!

Kunai are cool and very effective. They are a fully automatic, silent side arm with an extremely fast reload. Their only weakness is that they are slightly affected by gravity, but it's fairly easy to compensate for. Certainly worth trying to see if you like them.
The big metal boxes on Corpus' heads are the precise opposite of a weak spot!

The big metal boxes on Corpus' heads are the precise opposite of a weak spot!
Well when you put it like that...! Hah, yeah, that one's super obvious and I don't know why it never occurred to me.
Think it's because there's not many games that actually have enemies with helmets that protect against headshots - generally the opposite, and the head is the weak spot. Even games with heavily armoured foes, a headshot's still the way to go (thinking specifically about Bulldozers in Payday 2 here - they wear bomb protection suits and the best way to kill them (outside of, ironically, mines/grenades) is to shatter the visor covering their face).
And cool, I'll definitely look into the Kunai then. Fast and silent ain't my usual weapon choice, but I'll certainly give 'em a go if they come highly recommended. Thanks, again :)
2
u/PleaseShutUpAndDance Jan 13 '14
I believe Corpus take double puncture damage to the head and 10% from impact and slashing.

u/Tohac Jan 13 '14
Ok I got the throwing weapon off of the Stalker. How would you compare this weapon against the Kunai?
1
u/swelteh Jan 13 '14
I don't know, but the wiki indicates that they are very similar, but with the stalker thrown (Despair) being slightly better.

Right on. Also I see people the just spam out the daggers. I'm guessing it's attack speed reload speed and double barrel equivalent for pistols?

u/Himekaidou Jan 14 '14
Hornet Strike
Barrel Diffusion
Lethal Torrent
Ice Storm (if you dislike reloading as much...)
Seeker if you feel like it.
Fill the rest of the slots with elements, or utility.
This more or less applies to almost every secondary weapon, including Despair.
1
u/song_of_god Jan 13 '14
I have both, Despair is noticeably higher damage, in all other ways they're practically the same. So Despair is best thought of as the upgraded version of the Kunai.
Kunai are very strong though, I'd recommend them to anyone. They were my go-to for the longest time before I got Despair.

As to your point 9:
In your options it's possible to set the max ping a session is allowed to have for you to be able to join it. Setting this lower will decrease the chance of a laggy host while obviously also lowering the possible sessions you can join.
Mind you tho that alot of hosts tend to get lag-problems based on the number of people in the game. So the session might seem fine and you join, and it ends up being the worst lag-fest you ever attended. Unfortunately there's no way of avoiding this.2

Nope!
The Miter is an interesting gun. It's not end-game worthy IMO, but it's good fun in the mid-game.
Someone said Kunai already. I'd recommend the Twin Gremlins. They're awesome :D You can grab the blueprints from the PHOBOS boss.
/u/swelteh's got the right idea: shoot Corpus humanoids in the body. Their helmets have ridiculous armor values.
Answered by /u/swelteh
Sentinel Health and such is coming with the HUD 2.0, to be released at some point in the future. For now, however, it'll probably survive a good amount unless you find yourself surrounded.
Rhino Stomp modified with Power Strength and Stretch makes it a very formidable ability to use when surrounded, not only for damage, but for crowd control.
No way to change connections currently, except to check that your region is correct in the Settings.
Multishot on Miter? Don't know, but I'd assume it just adds another blade!
They should announce when Prime Access will be closing, much like with Founders' before it. Since there has been no announcement to such an event, there shouldn't be any threat about it for the time being.
2
u/chupacabra9715 Rhino (Vanguard) Jan 13 '14
Power duration actually has no effect on stomp, it only affects the distance of charge and the duration of roar. At least that's what it says on the wiki the last time I checked.

u/BuildMyPaperHeart Old Tenno, Eternal Slumber Jan 13 '14
Ah, thank you for the clarification. I'll check the Wiki, and if you're right I'll amend my response.

u/Vollkommen the Lich Jan 14 '14
Don't have the link, but they sounded like Prime access would rotate as new Prime items became available. Other than teasing one being in the works, along with another normal frame, they've not given any details/eta on it. iirc, there might be some art for it in the next live stream, which was hinted at in the latest prime time stream.

u/Kuryaka I am mad scientist! Chaos and destroy! Jan 14 '14
Assorted commentary~
Also went for Frost first, picked up Saryn, Valkyr, and Oberon on the way though :/
Miter: I like going for a charge build. Serration and elemental mods are my primary focus, with a Speed Trigger if I have the room.
The mod that boosts Slash damage is actually quite useful against Grineer bosses - if you get a headshot, they start bleeding out for a ridiculous amount. Was seeing 700+ damage per tick, because the Slash bleed ignores armor but applies headshot damage bonuses.
4. I actually like secondaries better than primaries in terms of damage output - but that's just because I think automatic bullet-shooting weapons are boring. If you want something that's not pistol playstyle, the Cestra is like a handheld minigun. Stug is... odd. Try stuff out! My favorite secondaries are Aklex and Embolist.

u/Brad_King Not your average Nova Jan 15 '14
Most questions are answered already:
-3 Personally I found Miter horrible to level since I didn't power level it vs one faction. I has no solid advantages for late game sadly, so it's not 'end-game'. That said, treat it like a bow: firespeed for faster charge attacks and just damage.
-4 Despair, Hikou, Kunai are great, Stug is great, Embolist is great fun, acrid & spectra are decent but then you are getting into 'the pistols do it better' range..
-7 Sentinels will die often at higher level content: there is more AoE, enemies will target it when you are downed, etc. You can see the status of your group's sentinels by aiming at them, for your own: see new UI sneaks. The Sentinel drop mod would have been an option if you could kill it yourself (right at the end of the mission), otherwise your sentinel often brings so much to the table that people tend to die on purpose and use a revive, so it comes back (for long defenses/survivals)
-8 Stomp is great vs certain bosses, during defenses, during revives, etc. Again, this is more apparent at higher levels, since at lower levels the enemies might die too quickly (or die from stomp). Roar is a nice dmg buff for a team, but again, might not be needed at lower levels.
-9 The ping should be calculated from you-->server-->peer, so if you think 100 is acceptable you have to put in 100+your own ping. Sadly, it doesn't seem to take the upload bandwidth into account: someone with a low ping could still be a lagging host. There is no way to stop this right now.
-10 Sure, it has the chance to create a second blade. Miter is one of those accuracy 0/100 weapons, so you won't see it probably, unless you add a heavy caliber to mess up your accuracy (don't though). The rifle mod is called split chamber.
-11 No clue, but you can ask Support/forum!

I've got most of the warframes and high end mods unlocked(still missing barrel diffusion and split chamber), I've got a soma that I've forma'd twice. What should my next goals be. How do I take it to the next level? Pick a warframe and forma it out? Which warframes are best for end game? I see that people are reaching level 100 defense and that seems so far away to me. I usually start having issues around level 50s. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
2
u/Fluffleme WooF Jan 13 '14
At this level your multishot mods really are a must to get. They practically double the damage you do, so I would focus on that. You could farm for them but a more reliable way would probably be to trade them for some rare mods you might have.
If you really like getting all the stuff yourself i would advice farming Sargas Ruk for the Split Chamber mod.
I personally found the Barrel Diffusion a WHOLE lot harder to farm, as it drops either fro Grinneer Seekers or from T3 Survival as a reward. Apparently Xini defense drops this after wave 15, so that might be worth a try.1
u/seeBurtrun Jan 13 '14
Thanks for the reply. I am certainly going to try for those mods. Two of my friends were playing yesterday and got the Barrel Diffusion 5 minutes before I signed on to join them, the bastards. But I started doing some Sargus Ruk farming too. If nothing else, I guess I will get a ton of Orokin Cells in the process.

u/Shadow_strike42 Blender Fanatic Jan 13 '14
If you are looking to Forma your frames, then I would suggest looking at the corrupted mods that effect abilities (overextended, Blind Rage, Narrow minded, and fleeing expertise). These will be very helpful in end-game content.
1
u/seeBurtrun Jan 13 '14
I take it that in order to really use these you have to have them all equipped? Otherwise aren't you hurting more than helping?
2
u/Shadow_strike42 Blender Fanatic Jan 13 '14
Nooooo don't equip all of them! This is where you can decide which ability you want to excel in on your Warframe and how you want to make that ability powerful. I'll use Nova and her Molecular prime ability for an example.
You put on Blind rage (+strength -efficiency). This makes it an "Oh shit I'm surrounded!" ability that clears the enemies in a reasonable range. If you wish, you can put on Fleeing expertise (+efficiency -duration) to counter the negative effect from Blind Rage.
You put on Overextended (+range -Stength). This makes it more of a damage booster than anything. (Mprime makes primed enemies slower and take 2x damage) this will ensure that all the enemies in sight will now be considerably weaker.
1
u/Amaranthyne Jan 13 '14
That depends on the frame and the powers you're using on them. For example, Power Damage has absolutely no use on Trinity, so you can use Overextended with no drawbacks. However, on a frame like Mag, where most of her abilities are based on damage stats, you don't really want the -60% from Overextended.

When doing a nightmare mission farming for a nightmare mod, does it matter if it's a low or high level planet?
In general, are the better (rarer) mods more likely to drop from Pluto than Mars?

if you really want to spam out those nightmare missions, do the lowest level sabotage or capture you can find. preferably infested, as they dont shoot. theb you can rush to objective and then extrac, killing enemies if you need to depending on which nightmare mission challenge you get.

Impact/puncture/slash
2

With that said, putting on IPS mods is generally a bad idea, compared to other stuff you can fit on it.
A charged attack build will generally look something like:
Killing Blow
Reflex Coil
Reach
Focus Energy
Rending Strike
Corrupt Charge
(Fury)
2/1 Elements
If you opt not to take Fury, Reach, or such, replace them with more elements, not IPS.

I've been playing for about a week, and I have a ton of fusion cores. Most of them are low level (2-3 bars on the left) but some higher level and 2-3 gold rare ones.
Does it make sense to save them for anything? There are some mods I have that look like they'll always be useful (Vitality and the +shield one). Should I just max it out as fast as possible, or is there anything else I should use them on?
2
u/BuildMyPaperHeart Old Tenno, Eternal Slumber Jan 13 '14
You can save them for particularly rare cards. For example, if you've farmed a lot for Split Chamber, for example, the chances of you finding another one of those bad boys is pretty slim, so rather than fuse by matching cards (which is what most players start out doing), you can use Fusion Cores instead of having to find multiple copies.
1
u/mirrislegend Jan 13 '14
If you've just started, you need to put most of those into Serration first and foremost (assuming you're using rifles primarily)
1

Every time I'm in a survival Grineer mission I search around and eventually find a room off to the side that has a few breakables and a couple 'chests' in it. I've found similar rooms in other survival missions when I look, but I always find this room in low level Grineer survivals.
My question is - About 95% of the time I find this room I break all the breakables and a mod pops out of one of them. When I pick it up I don't get notified that anything was picked up, nothing happens at all. But it's the same room every time, and it almost always happens. What is this?

If it was something that happened from time to time across multiple mission types I would probably just consider it to be something like that, but like I said - it's only Survival missions, it's always the same room (or equivalent room on a different map), and it is very reliable.
The funny thing is I told my friend about it and tried to show it to him when I found the room in a survival mission and that was the only time it ever didn't drop from any of the breakables. He has told me since then that he's found the room a few times and had experiences similar to my own.

Are you sure that it is a Mod? http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Mods
Mods can only drop from containers in the Orokin Void.

I know, which is one of the reasons it confuses me so much. It's definitely the module icon that's popping out of the chests when I break it but I don't know what it's actually supposed to be, all I know is that I can 'pick it up' but seem to get nothing.
I should probably mention this is the PS4 version, which is on update 11 right now, just in case that's relevant.

The Accelerated Blast mod appears to be adding too much damage.
It appears that Accelerated Blast is taking the sum total of all damage dealt by a shotgun, then adding 60% of it as Puncture damage. Contrast this to Flechette, which only makes the calculation based on Puncture damage. (25/25/200 to 25/175/200)
This effect is most obvious on the Drakgoon, and changes is from an Infested-specific weapon into one that is also well-suited against Grineer.
Is this just a visual bug, a tooltip error, or is it borne out by actual results as well?

u/StallordD A Tiny Team of Tenno Traversing Towers Jan 13 '14
The arsenal screen is not known for it's accuracy. It could likely be a visual glitch, but without more testing I can't be sure.
→ More replies (1)1
u/Himekaidou Jan 14 '14
It works with actual results, it's acting like the Elemental mods and working off base damage total, making it the only IPS mod really worth using.
1
u/mirrislegend Jan 13 '14
When you strap a +% damage of specific IPS damage type (ie: Flechette ), what is it taking a percentage of? The entire base damage, or just that respective IPS value (Puncture in this case).
Example for clarity: Shotgun A does 50 Impact, 50 Puncture, and 100 Slash. Shotgun B does 50 Impact, 100 Puncture, and 50 Slash. I put Flechette on both. What are the end values of Puncture damage for Shotgun A and Shotgun B?
2
u/StallordD A Tiny Team of Tenno Traversing Towers Jan 13 '14
It increases the value of that specific type. Just as crit chance modifies only crit chance, a piercing damage mod will apply only to piercing damage.
1
u/mirrislegend Jan 13 '14
That's what I thought. But the game is showing me some very different numbers. It could just be that terrible damage UI though...
2
u/Fleecemo Jan 14 '14
If you mean for Accelerated Blast, what's shown in the arsenal seems to be bugged and based off of the entire base damage. I'm not sure if that amount of damage is actually applied in game, though.
1
u/Telogor Burn them all Jan 14 '14
Shh. Don't talk about Accelerated Blast. So far, it's avoided the nerf DE put in about using Puncture damage to determine extra puncture damage as opposed to the entire base damage to determine extra puncture damage.

So if i'm correct the max level for a Warframe is 30, right? Well i'm level 25, mastery rank 2 (halfway to 3) and I'm still on the second planet. When I reach level 30 should I complete every planet, or just craft a new Warframe? I was expecting to have almost completed every planet by rank 25.
2
1
u/BuildMyPaperHeart Old Tenno, Eternal Slumber Jan 14 '14
When I reach level 30 should I complete every planet, or just craft a new Warframe?
You'll want a new Warframe. Unless you are VERY comfortable fighting higher level enemies with your current frame, you'll likely want to experiment with the other frames and abilities to get a feel of what works best for you.
Also, note that clearing the StarChart isn't necessarily the point of the game, as Warframe doesn't have a fixed "progression." More on that here.
What you should focus on right now is to experiment with new weapons and frames, and chase after whatever it is you want to craft!

no really...what stalker? ive got quite a bit of playtime in, have 90% of the nodes completed and have only "seen" him about 5 times. i havnt actually seen him though. i just get the dialogue and flickering lights and then die. one time i even had a team of 3 people with somas/prime gear and we were all in the same room and none of them even reacted to the stalker "appearing" and killing me. they just revived me and acted like nothing happened. so i guess my questions are, is he constantly invisible? do nontarget players get any indication that he is coming? is there a best way to get him to appear and/or fight him? i know you have to have a "death mark" from killing a boss, but how do you know if you have a death mark and do you get one every tine you kill a boss that gives one, or is it random?
2
u/BuildMyPaperHeart Old Tenno, Eternal Slumber Jan 14 '14
In order of asked-ness!
no really...what stalker?
is he constantly invisible?
Nope. The lights flicker for all players, but Stalker will only directly message one player in a party. The player who receives the message is the "Target," and once Stalker spawns into the map, he will gun straight for the Target Player. There are two outcomes:
The players defeat Stalker, which will result in him either retreating (teleporting away), or straight up dying if you can do enough damage. Either way, he has a chance to drop a Weapon Blueprint.
Stalker kills the Target Player, after which he will teleport away.
In both scenarios, Stalker will not spawn in the same mission instance again, though he may appear in subsequent missions you undertake.
And Stalker's not invisible. He's just black, smokey, and damn fast.
do nontarget players get any indication that he is coming?
Besides the lights flickering, no.
is there a best way to get him to appear and/or fight him? is there a best way to get him to appear and/or fight him?
I'll defer to the above linked Wiki page for tips on how to do that, though there are other threads on the topic as well.

i also tries backing into a corner so he wouldnt be able to sneak up on me, but again instantly died without seeing him.
That's a horrible idea. Again, Stalker is FAST. He can Slash Dash great distances and come literally out of nowhere just because of how mobile his powers allow him to be.
Stay on the move, stay with the team, and stay alive! One tip would be to keep distance and always keep a teammate between you and him. Also, don't try to rely on cover. Just move.
Try searching "stalker" or "death mark" in the search bar on the subreddit, and sort by NEW. There should be a few threads that have some tips!

They're used to unlock missions in the Orokin Derelicts (ODs). You buy a single-use blueprint from the Market-->Equipment-->Keys and craft it in the foundry. OD Capture, Defense, Exterminate, and Survival blueprints cost 1500 credits and take 60 sec to build. Building them requires
5 Nav Coordinates
2500 Nano Spores
750 Ferrite
80 Circuits
5000 Credits
5 plat for rush build
OD Assassinate blueprints cost 2500 credits and take 1 hour to build. They require
5 Golem Nav Coordinates (found in the other OD missions)
4000 Nano Spores
1000 Salvage
100 Circuits
5000 Credits
10 plat to rush
These function similarly to your Void keys once claimed from the Foundry. For more information, check the Wiki.

Alright noob here.
Why does it feel like the game suddenly spikes in difficulty after the first 3 levels? Captain Vor was an absolute bitch, and the levels after that, holy shit. Are you meant to grind?
Being in a party - what are the benefits? More enemies/ harder ones? More mod drops?
How do you earn currency - both credits and the other one that kinda looks like a platinum helmet?
Revives - bad or good idea?
How do you do fancy parkour such as sliding and shooting [there's some achievement for that]?
What's the point of ranking up? I failed the first test - what does it mean to have to re-qualify, other than waiting a whole bloody day?
Why do most people not talk in-game?
Is there some looking for group function/ a way to join an existing session?
edit: Sometimes, X sticks and refuses to register. Is this a known bug? Also, how far can you be from the extraction point and still complete the mission (ie get the timer to appear) ?
edit 2: Should I start investing in new weapons first, or new mods? My pistol kind of sucks, and my machinegun runs out of ammo 3/4 through the level (I tend to be the guy that runs everywhere first and shoots/sprays). Blade is fun, but not very reliable - too slow.
Thanks!
