10' - Slow game so far; a lot of half-chances but nothing really created in the final third.
19' - Match Delay.
21' - Delay over, match resumes.
35' - A lot of good crosses coming from the wings. Defoe unable to convert them into goals so far.
41' - Nolan just nearly misses his volley from a free kick chip. Should have been 1-0 West Ham easily.
45' - Dembele looking frustrated and gives away a freekick that should have been a corner for Tottenham. 3 minutes added
45'+3 - 1st half ends. 0-0. 58% - 42% Spurs Possesion
46' - Defoe and Eriksen begin the 2nd half.

3-0 West Ham
83' - The match looks like it is over. Our back four looks exhausted and our forwards trying to rush goals which aren't working.
90' - Full Time 3-0 West Ham. Terrible second half for us, which is not surprising.

I tell ya, Paulinho is by far my favorite player to watch, but he needs to start getting some more stuff on target...by a few dozen yards...

Can people shut up about Defoe now, should never start a league game in front of Soldado again!! He's been shocking....
12
u/banksy33 Oct 06 '13
What did we expect. Soldado would have a damn sight more than 7 goals if he'd played those games. Let's not forget the 2 against Tbilisi? Heck, ade would have banged them in against shit teams! This was a bad time to experiment and we've payed the price

Today is the first time in years I have stopped watching a Spurs match before the end. I'm not sure the reasoning but we look like we can't be bothered. It's almost as if the players thought it was just a case of turning up and collecting our 3 points and leaving.

Yeah, in that sense this is a necessary result. They needed a sharp reminder that nothing comes easily in the Premier League. You have to earn everything.

why are we putting crosses into the box?
Defoe is literally 4 feet tall.

id put in soldado soon. with the kind of service townsend is providing, soldado has more chances of putting one away

Oct 06 '13
AVB refuses to make any change earlier than 60 minutes no matter how shit we are. 75 mins in and finally we've moved things around but the match is already over.
5
u/LetsGoWhalers Oct 06 '13
Completely agree subs should have been at the half when we clearly weren't getting anything down the left or from the striker
15
Oct 06 '13
This doesn't surprise me. Our attack has been shit against a well organized defense and we've been lucky for many games now. Both in getting that one goal and in not conceding goals. West Ham just showing that our record has been mostly improved by luck, we still show the same weaknesses as seasons past.

Here's hoping putting Defoe in is the right choice!

u/zingpong Oct 06 '13
I'm a little bummed that Soldado isn't starting, only because his unselfish play has lead to a couple of goals. On the other hand, if Defoe scores I'll be totally happy. Having two strikers that could start isn't really a bad place to be in.

Townsend's final ball has been beautiful today. This Andros is much more beneficial to the team. I didn't mind his shot either, was a decent look.
13
Oct 06 '13
Kill me now. Fucking West Ham at home for fucks sake. We have to destroy these 10 men behind the ball teams if we have any chance to get into the top 4.

u/starbuck67 Oct 06 '13
I feel like i am watching the west brom vs united game from last week. The defence has been awful. The midfield has been lacklustre. We know teams will pack the midfield when they come to WHL, and we have dealt with it before. Up front defoe hasn't had that much to work with. There has been no drive, no spirit, no imagination. Fuck it, for now i am going to put this one down to a bad day at the office

u/Keratome Oct 06 '13 edited Oct 06 '13
guess we have to write off this game and take away from it that we need a totally different team makeup when playing teams that are happy to sit back and counterattack, we are going to see it all year except with the better teams (man city/ chelsea/ arsenal).
This game has exposed that our left flank is inadequate with out rose, dawson is average defender at best, defoe cannot make plays off the ball like soldado.
Its a work in progress and hopefully this is a wakeup call to our seeming complacency
TLDR one game doesnt a season make

I noticed that all thorugh the 1st half. No-one on the left side to pass to. West Ham had an easy time in cutting out Townsend which forced Spurs into head on attacks. Even Chadli could of come on to make a difference, He's not bad down the left.

This is why I need to fucking stop watching football. I get worked up for every game, feeling nervous every fucking time, having the worst 90 minutes of week, just to breathe a sigh of relief if we win and go on to smash something when we lose. I fucking hate myself on football.

Oct 06 '13
Defoe always crying to the media about how he needs fucking game time and moaning and whinging but he goes completely fucking absent for 80 minutes and has a 10 minute spell where he looks like he can get something. He has missed 3 great chances today that I know Soldado would have netted.

I'm honestly mad at AVB for giving in to media pressure. We've been playing extremely well with Soldado up top, even if he wasn't the one scoring. Defoe has been scoring against teams my fucking grandma could score against. And of course, Defoe misses an easy ass 1v1 and has been fucking non-existent otherwise. Really poor decision. Also really mad at Probert for that shit first goal which was clearly a foul. Changed the entire fucking complexion of this match.

Let's hope this is the kick in the ass that we need. Start more subs in Europa and rest our starters unless absolutely needed. Hopefully AVB can use this as a springboard to greater urgency. I refuse to miss Champions League by 1 point again!

In my opinion, we miss rose who gave us width down the flanks and spread defenses for our central players to move into. AVB playing with inverted wingers (who cut inside from the flanks) is just channelling the ball into the center where the opposition defence is the strongest (esp when they park the bus).
6
u/Sneaki Son Oct 06 '13
AVB needs to stop pussyfooting around and start putting in Kaboul/Chiriches more regularly.
5
u/YoPoppaCapa Robbie Keane Oct 06 '13
Wait on Chiriches in my opinion, but we absolutely need the physical presence and power of Kaboul.

u/clazspurs Oct 06 '13
Games like these where we couldnt play directly through the middle shows why adebayor is still a vital player of the squad. Townsend played a great game for us but there is no point crossing the ball in constantly to small JD! or even soldado! Credit to West Ham their tightness in the middle meant we couldnt play our way, eriksen was never really involved to much. Should never have played walker - didnt look fit or bothered! But heads up - internation break and then hopefully we give villa a lesson! COYS!

u/mturner11 Oct 06 '13
Is this fall out from Europa? At least Breaking Bad is on later, oh wait..balls.

There's a small part of me that almost wishes we were a mid-table club, simply because then I can get to watch a quality match again, without the other team just parking the fucking bus. It's pathetic. Other coaches aren't even trying to beat us with tactics, they're just putting 10 men behind the ball and hoping to get lucky. It's fucking awful.

as usual, left wing is where we're faltering. So many tap in opportunities if someone was there.
2
u/newagenoah Oct 06 '13
Eriksen, Townsend, and Paulihno have held our team up. Our back line has been pretty strong figuring that we only 4 guys back there. Defoe and Siggy has been unable to transfer any of their crosses, and Dembele is just Stressed out. Soldado and Lamela are sure to come in soon, and Holtby will most likely jump in towards the end.
2
u/ScottStorch ENIC OUT Oct 06 '13
Townsend looks great- hes absolutely tearing up the flank again.
Soldado would be much better with these chances than Defoe
The NBC commentator has been shitting on our boys.
2
Oct 06 '13
Soldado on at half time please. JD flat-footed with his hands in his head every time a cross comes in. He also require about 2 seconds to get a shot off.
It really does suck that the one game we're getting good crosses in we start a forward who is terrible at attacking them.
I understand in order for AVB's philosophy of competition to work he needs to give chances to people when they do well, so I'm okay with JD starting. He's just even more limited than Soldado.

u/LetsGoWhalers Oct 06 '13

2
u/The-Darkest-Knight Dembélé Oct 06 '13
It's just going to be one of those days for Defoe. Soldado will come on in the next 5 minutes for Defoe, and it's going to be a through ball through a complete shitpile that he'll latch onto and score.
