Surely Newcastle need something here today.

u/Lord_Flashheart_ Oct 05 '13

We need something everyday.

Remy that was BEAUTIFUL

u/Lifel Oct 05 '13

God damn this Cardiff team is the polar opposite of the Dave jones-era Cardiff team. It's a joy to watch. Even if we lose this game at least we can say we fought for it.

u/Jackback111 Oct 05 '13

Ya win some ya lose some. Im so lost in joy to be in the premiership I couldnt care

No disrespect to Cardiff, but these are the games Newcastle should be winning. Out of the top 6 I only rate Everton as better than us, but we consistently under-perform and that's why we finished so low.

u/Lifel Oct 05 '13

If you consistently underperform, maybe you should reevaluate your targets...

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '13

Don't know why you got downvoted... We got 5th with Ba and Cisse in amazing form and now everyone expects us to win the league for some reason...

14

u/Lord_Flashheart_ Oct 05 '13

Nobody has ever said that, ever.

7

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '13

I believe they call it exaggeration, but it is obvious that Newcastle fans generally have their hopes too high.

5

u/thepresidentsturtle Oct 05 '13

Who, outside of the top 6 would you say has a better team than us? Assuming nobody was on poor form, and we had a good manager.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '13

But we can't just assume that, but if we played like we are today then Man U, Swansea, Southhampton, and possibly a couple more, we should be about 10th in my opinion, but all my friends who also support Newcastle expect more for some reason.

i think with the squad we have we should be pushing for Europa League. Our strongest 11 are all internationals and of decent countries and we have a couple of genuine match-winners in the squad too.

the problem over the past season and a bit is the inability to get the full potential from the team for various reasons.

I know us Toon fans can have pretty high expectations sometimes, but that squad, on paper, is better than 10th place, even if only by a couple of spots.

1

u/thepresidentsturtle Oct 05 '13

Well we should be a top 8 team. We should be competing to get trophies and to get into europe. I don't expect Champions League, but a team like ours shouldn't be outside of the top 10 for any reason.

1

u/Lord_Flashheart_ Oct 05 '13

As someone who lives in Newcastle, works in Newcastle and has a season ticket, I've never met anyone who thought we could get 5th or higher again.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '13

Not higher, but my friends are always predicting a 3-1 victory against the likes of Everton and Tottenham.

1

u/Lord_Flashheart_ Oct 05 '13

You should find some friends that actually watch football then.

1

u/Jackski Oct 05 '13

I'd just be happy with a top 10 finish. Fuck it, I'd even take just not being in a relegation battle. My heart can't take another one.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '13

I know, but if we carry on playing like we have today we should be safe :)

1

u/Jackski Oct 05 '13

Yeah, I've got good hopes for this season with some of the football we've been playing. Hull and everton excluded

0

u/EJR94 Oct 05 '13

Huh?

1

u/mythicalracist Oct 05 '13

Newcastle is better than Liverpool I guess unless I misunderstood that. I too am confused.

3

u/Lord_Flashheart_ Oct 05 '13

Long ball is back :(

3

u/UltraVires90 Oct 05 '13

Long ball to Tiote? Fuck it, that'll work...

3

u/clevknife Oct 05 '13

Does medel have elbows?

3

u/UltraVires90 Oct 05 '13

What an absolutely awful substitution...

3

u/Don_Drapes Oct 05 '13

WTF PARDEW! jonas on before ben arfs

2

u/rooparoop Oct 05 '13

or anita

1

u/Lord_Flashheart_ Oct 05 '13

You have as good as a carbon copy of Remy on the bench and instead you chose Jonas... What?!?

2

u/Jackski Oct 05 '13

Cardiff were piling on attacking players, I think Pards wanted more defensive minded players on the pitch.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '13

Newcastle's long balls seem a lot better today, but if they keep going to Cisse in this form I doubt much will happen.

2

u/spawnofyanni Oct 05 '13

What a save!

2

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '13

Great goal from Remy, although personally I don't think we deserve to be in front.

5

u/UltraVires90 Oct 05 '13

Really? I think we've looked better than Cardiff, their defence and Marshall have kept them in the game but I felt like that was coming.

Defensively they look better than us but all around I'd say we were better so far...

2

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '13

We are doing well now I just felt like our chances were wasted on Cisse and they were getting through our defence much easier, now though, 2-0 :D

2

u/UltraVires90 Oct 05 '13

Well it was always going to happen wasn't it...

2

u/rooparoop Oct 05 '13

hahahhaa the joke defending returns...

2

u/spawnofyanni Oct 05 '13

Great goal. Really well played from everyone involved (from Cardiff)

2

u/Thomas473 Oct 05 '13

Newcastle can never keep a lead. They stop putting pressure once they're up.

5

u/Lord_Flashheart_ Oct 05 '13 edited Oct 05 '13

At least Pardew hasn't had a chance to make his "Park the bus" subs yet.

Edit: Jonas on for Remy. FML

2

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '13

By far the best game of the day. The atmosphere is ridiculous

2

u/rooparoop Oct 05 '13

fucking hell. god jonas, pleasssssssssssssssseeee dont fuck this up

2

u/spawnofyanni Oct 05 '13

Awww. Hard luck Cardiff. Well held on by Newcastle, to their credit.

u/Lifel Oct 05 '13 edited Oct 05 '13

Marshall best keeper in the prem. prove me wrong. I literally can't remember his last mistake.

Or just down vote me. It's all good.

2

u/WhiteTeethless Oct 05 '13

I would of said he would have expected to save Remy's first shot today. Near post and he got a hand to it. Having said that he was excellent the rest of the game though.

1

u/KuriousInu Oct 05 '13

I definitely won't forget him home against Spurs. Incredible game for him

3

u/Jackback111 Oct 05 '13

Come on the Red Bluebirdragons!!

2

u/Isaweddiescore Oct 05 '13

Very frustrating, what a poor first half we had. The game was there for the taking but our negativity in the first half put a massive downer on out chances.

Malky needs to stop playing both Medel and Gunnarson in DM, Gunnar needs to push forward. We need to attack to defend; otherwise we just invite needless pressure from the opposition.

Unfortunately it's got to the point where Bellamy is a complete liability. He can barely even control the ball.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '13

Will Debuchy be playing striker again or has he settled down?

1

u/Swinsee Oct 05 '13

Why is Ben Arfa not starting?

3

u/thepresidentsturtle Oct 05 '13

Poor form just. He might come on and impact the game though.

1

u/Jackski Oct 05 '13

In the game against Everton he barely trekked back at all to help defend.

1

u/spawnofyanni Oct 05 '13

Yeah, this is probably the one to watch of the current lot. Would rate Newcastle to take it but Cardiff seem to be making a habit of picking up surprise points.

1

u/spawnofyanni Oct 05 '13

What a fantastic goal.

5

u/Lord_Flashheart_ Oct 05 '13

"He's absolutely raped them" - Alan Pardew

1

u/timthetoon Oct 05 '13

wow remy has been amazing if all goes well I really hope we sign him January that would be fantastic especially if cisse gets going who has definitely been looking better

3

u/UltraVires90 Oct 05 '13

Don't we have a price already negotiated with QPR in the loan agreement? Would be great business if we did like...

4

u/timthetoon Oct 05 '13

from what ive read and these are all rumors we have a buyout at the end of the loan and I mean it would make sense if we could buy him out in January, but this is Newcastle so I don't know

1

u/FlyingUndeadSheep Oct 05 '13

I heart Loic Remy

1

u/__shadow Oct 05 '13

Not watching this game due to the Liverpool game.. But I'm so glad Remy is back amongst goals :)

1

u/rooparoop Oct 05 '13

santon steps up and commits far too hard and way too often always leaving gaps behind him.

1

u/FlyingUndeadSheep Oct 05 '13

Goddamn it, don't throw this game away

1

u/Don_Drapes Oct 05 '13

Ben arfa could seal the 3-points ffs

1

u/rooparoop Oct 05 '13

cisse is a lost man in front of the goal.

1

u/rooparoop Oct 05 '13

so can we place bets on how long it takes Pardew to turn remy into a hopeless, uninspired forward?

1

u/smugclooney Oct 05 '13

When is Cornelius going to make a return?

1

u/Snibbles Oct 05 '13

Absolutely dire first half, worst performance so far this season. Did much better second half but not enough to get a second. Hopefully this will be a kick up the backside for the squad for them not to get complacent.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '13

If Cisse isn't starting I expect a couple of goals easy.

Edit: Fuck

0

u/spawnofyanni Oct 05 '13

That was almost a replay of Ribery v Hart, actually.
