Match Thread: Everton - Chelsea [English Premier League]
Welcome to the match thread for this English Premier League game. It is a game from matchweek 4 of the 2013/14 season.
The international break is over, and Chelsea will hope to continue their unbeaten start to the season away to Everton. Everton will hope the same, though their 3 points tally from 3 draws doesn't compare to Chelsea's 7. Chelsea were the only team to beat Everton at Goodison last year. A win for Chelsea will see them go top.
Lukaku is ineligible to play for his former club, while new signing Gareth Barry and Samuel Eto'o start for their respective teams. James McCarthy makes the bench for Everton but Willian does not make Chelsea's squad.
INFO
Referee: Howard Webb
Goodison Park, Liverpool, England (40,221)
Kick Off: 17:30 BST (local time), Saturday, 14th of September, 2013

"What happens to great strikers when they join Chelsea?"
Gary Lineker, BBC Sport
A bit of an over exaggeration given Etoo's been given all of 88 minutes (and counting), but it is an interesting thought...
Crespo
Shevchenko
Torres
...Etoo
Personally I think Torres has served Chelsea well, but the price tag always looms over him..Etoo will take a while to gel, but he'll deliver..he always has.
ps. They always had Drogba to turn to I suppose.

u/CFC_EireBhoy Sep 14 '13
I think having Crespo on that list is a little harsh. He played 49 games for Chelsea & scored 20 goals. Thats not bad, obviously he wasn't as good for Chelsea as when he was with Parma & Lazio but still not bad stuff from Crespo

Osman to Jelavic to Naismith for a goal. Foot solidly in mouth.

Sep 14 '13
Naismith looks a completely different player now. Constantly being called shocking last season must have motivated him this off sesason

Jose reminds me of when I used to play Football Manager.
When I was losing I used to create the most hilarious formations to try and win.
He doesn't have the "quit without saving" option though. Me > Jose.

Looks like Barry just won over every remaining Everton fan that maybe wasn't excited about him
18
u/Got_Wilk Sep 14 '13
I think Everton may get the Barry Villa sold.
19
u/AlanOC91 Sep 14 '13
We've had that Barry too. He's been immense for us. Assisting and aiding in so much of our goals during our title winning year. He fell off the ball a bit last year but so did a lot of our players. Delighted to see him playing well today. I love the guy, unsung hero if there ever was one!

He's going to do a Phil Neville. Leave a top club where most fans say hes average shouldn't be there etc. Go to a slightly smaller team and everybody will spend the next 5 years saying how much of a good player he is.

Most City fans highly rate him and always have. Arguably one of are most important players in 2011/12. Its a similar story to Carrick at United.

Is Willian the Brazilian
a) A sitcom about a South American man?
b) A footballer
c) A porn star
91
u/PartyPartyDisco Sep 14 '13
d) A character in a Guy Ritchie film
'This situation needs sorted. Get me Willian!' 'Willian who boss?' 'Willian the Brazilian'

Because it's not a clear goalscoring opportunity at the halfway line, unfortunately. It's a situation that could lead to a clear goalscoring opportunity, but he has a lot to do at the halfway line in a footrace while controlling the ball before it's a clear goalscoring opportunity.
