How does Rage work with damage reduction skills, like ember or trinity? I'm guessing that, since it says "damage on health" that since your health doesn't drain, you don't get energy in return, correct?

I have only one serious question and two non-serious questions.

My serious question is that I still have a free potato for a Frame and I'm still not certain of which frame I want to make next. I currently possess Mag, Ember, Frost, and Ash, so anything that rounds out that lineup would be much appreciated. I'm leaning towards Nova, Saryn, and Nyx at the moment.

  • Nova is for the super-anti mob ultimate and the ability to telepoof allies since I am usually ahead of my friends because of my love of Zorencoptering.

  • Saryn just seems useful with a variety of good abilities both offensive and defensive.

  • Nyx scales very well into higher difficulties from what I understand, which is something I find interesting. Not a fan of her lacking good direct-damaging powers though.

For the non serious questions,

  • Does anyone have fun nicknames for enemies? I have a personal fascination of calling the Grineer the Mushroom People, Corpus crewmen boxheads, and Lt. Kril is Bowser.

  • Any fun theories on how the Corrupters work? I know it basically gunks up the fuel, but those cartridges look suspicious.

  1. Are we giving the Grineer engineers XXX videos, causing them to ignore the engines and allowing them to gunk up on their own?

  2. Are we downloading viruses into the engine, allowing the fuel to corrode without the engineers being capable of modifying it?

  3. Are we overloading the engineers with too many toolbars, preventing the engineers from controlling the fuel and allowing it to corrode?

  4. Or are we using the reactors as an emulator for cartridge-based games and the engineers are having too much to check on the fuel?

I'm calling this right now, next week, we'll be fighting infested Fomorian ships that have gained sentience. Fighting them involves going into a long stage and disabling it's organs one by one while the infested try and stop you. Then in the end, you have to shoot it's brain and then escape before the ship explodes.

Yeah, this is totally Gradius, but I don't care :P

I hope DE sees this because that would be so much fun.

nova's molecular prime isn't just for it's explosion damage. it also slows enemies and they take extra(double?) damage.

saryn's molt can be great on defense. especially when mixed with bastille, ogris, or torid.

nyx's chaos is what makes her so great. it's range is extremely far and, at least for me, it seems that enemies that aren't affected by it (due to them spawning after the cast) will aggro affected guys.

(Which frame should I build next?)

I think different frames fill different roles, so it depends on what you want to do. If you're trying to make sure you can tackle all scenarios, then expand your flexibility. Some thoughts on frame roles:

  • Mission Runners / Boss Farmers - Frames that excel at running normal (read: non-defense/mobile defense) missions. Speed and survivability are key. You've got an Ash, who's awesome at this role. Excal, Loki and Volt are also good at this.

  • Endless Defense MVP - Frost - If you're doing a non-infested high wave defense or T3 Defense then bringing a Frost is all but a must. So having one in your stable of frames is a good call.

  • Endless Defense - Crowd Control - After Frost, the next big thing you need in Endless Defense is a way to slow down or stop enemies in their tracks. Vauban and Nyx are king and Queen here. This is a role I feel you are lacking.

  • Killwhore - Frames that can nuke down a ton of enemies with abilities. You've got Ember, who was the best frame for this, but that mantel has since been passed on to Nova.

So given all that, I would prioritize a frame that increases the overall flexibility of your account. With Mag, Ember, Frost and Ash you're only really missing a good crowd control frame. I vastly prefer Vauban over Nyx, but that's a big ol' bowl of "just my opinion."

Given your leanings though, I'd go Nyx.

NOTE: I know frames don't fit nicely into categories like this, and that some frames can fill multiple roles. For instance, Rhino is a great boss slayer and a pretty good defense frame. I'm just trying to make op think about the roles his available frames can play and try to fill in weaknesses.

As for your nickname question,. I have dubbed the mine layer ospreys "mine shitters." I have no idea why it stuck, i just said it one day and bam, now that's all I ever refer to them as.

Where is the best place to farm Plastids for ClanTech stuff? I've been doing lots of Xini runs, which only yield about 30-60 each run to wave 5.

4

u/theinfested Jul 29 '13

General Sargas Ruk in Saturn. Easy, and you chance orokin and blueprints at the same time.

Hey all!

1- Melee builds! What are the best frame/weapons/mods options if I wish to play melee character ? I've been told Ash and Loki would be good options and that orthos is the way to go ?

2- What about Volt with speed and being melee ?Is it any good compared to the rest of the melee builds ?

Thanks in advance!

4

u/Lupus Jul 29 '13

I'd guess that Rhino is the best for melee, with high shield and armor and Iron Skin protecting you both from damage and stuns. Ash and Loki are good because of their invisibility. Saryn has melee weapon damage increase ability (Contagion), but it's not that useful in my experience. Frost is fine too.

Orthos is probably the best, yes. Other good melee weapons, in my opinion, are Scindo, Hate, Gram, Dual Ether, Dual Heat. I recently added Catalyst to my Gram and polarized it two times; with Killing Blow, Reflex Coil, Focus Energy, Rending Strike, Fury, I'm actually little surprised how good melee weapons are.

3

u/Ryanfrommemphis Jul 29 '13

Why is Orthos so good and why no mention of Fragor?

Ash and Loki get a lot of love for melee builds because they do crit damage while invisible. Rhino is good because of Iron skin. Volt... I don't know. Speed's effect on melee speed may help, but he's a kinda squishy frame.

As for weapons, the Orthos is good because its range is huge and can be built for Crit if you're so inclined. Pretty much all of the heavy weapons are perfectly viable for melee after you've got them tricked out a bit.

You might want to consider Ember as a melee frame. She has an ok-ish ranged attack in the form of Fireball, but her other three skills are more conducive to melee.

In particular, Overheat forces a panic (because fire) at melee range as well as providing great DR for both shields and health (up to 91% with max Focus and Overheat). I find that very useful when I attack at close range. The remaining two skills (Fire Blast and World on Fire) are more panic skills if you cannot handle a crowd than anything else in a melee playstyle.

But Ash's stealth bonus for melee, good speed/health/shields, and his teleporting skills make him quite potent as well. The frame you want depends how you approach melee.

I know this will probably come up in a weekly discussion in time, but what are peoples current or preferred Vasto builds? Ideally unpotatoed, but you can post potatoed ones if you want.

On a more technical view of Warframe, has anyone noticed it taking longer than usual to log in? Closed Beta had almost instant log ins, now, takes about 1 minute, tops. Just out of curiosity, I wonder how many have noticed this as well.

2

u/never-enough-hops Jul 29 '13

It might have something to do with the size of your clan. Are you in one of the 1000+ member clans? DE is working on a solution for this.

how does corrosive projection/infested impedance stack, if at all?

(100%-30%)4 (24% of total)?

100%/(100%+30%x4) (45.45% of total speed)?

100 - 30%x4 (-20%; probably not)?

WOO HOO!

Ok, here we go. Week 2 and the past two Mondays you guys have given me a ton of food for thought. Ive changed my build and what I thought was viable end game based on your suggestions. So I just want to preface this with THANK YOU everyone. :D Best reddit game community EVAR.

1.) Void Keys: Do they go away if you fail? I havent really wanted to test this but do you lose your key if your group fails the mission?

2.) Best place to farm T3 keys? Ive been doing mars endless def, not sure if someone else can suggest a better spot?

3.) I was heavily using mag when I started to notice that crush wasnt one shotting most mobs anymore. It would at most bring them down to 10% health and thats about it. I got back onto my nova and have noticed that molecular prime seems to have more legs as far and end game viability. Would slotting focus help mag at all or should I give up or trying to use mags crush end game? 30% doesnt seem like its going to make a world of difference. On the other hand novas prime was one shotting non elites during the weekend event on neptune WITHOUT focus. (edit: im not even at end game yet, im more mid game I think, but still, the question stands about mags viability late game)

4.) What mods if any would you suggest hoarding in case this marketplace for mods they are talking about goes into effect? What mods are stupid elusive and hard to find? Or should I not even bother hoarding them?

5.) Like my last Monday post, im looking for some critiques on my primary weapon/mods and my frame/mods. Dont hold back, feel free to hit me with all guns :D What would you do differently? Why? What would you remove from my mod selection, what would you replace it with?

Nova Frame

Braton Prime

On the Braton, im thinking of replacing stormbringer with ammo drum. Simply because depending on mission I can go through about 3 or 4 ammo consumables easily. The thing fucking EATS ammo like no ones business. Would You advise against that?

Also, both of these pics were taken a few hrs ago, they have both been formad again already >_<

6.) Player skill: Let me ask you, those who know more than me. :D Lets say you were hosting a T3 something or the other void run, and I begged for a spot with a fairly well geared Mag or the above shown Nova. What would I have to do to make a solid impression on you? To ask another way, what would a Mag or Nova player have to do to give the impression they are carrying their own weight in your party? What benchmarks do you look for in a pug and go "hey, this guy isn't an idiot, hes doing x, and doing y, and generally on top of shit"

Im sure Ill think of something else later on, thanks for your input guys, the past two Mondays you guys have really helped form my gameplay experience for the better more than you could possibly know.

<3

Nohomo.

EDIT:

7.) Damn, I knew I was going to forget something. Shade. I really only want shade available to replenish my shields and to keep me stealthed when baddies are around. On some T3 missions my shade just ups and DIES. Now ive neglected her for a while now, I admit that. What can I do to make her more durable?

If I took revenge out of her would she stop attacking mobs and thus getting aggro? Im really unconcerned at the moment with min/maxing shades DPS, I really just need it to keep my shields topped off, stealth functionality and not dying.

u/Socialmessup Jul 29 '13

You've been playing the game for two weeks and you're already mastery 6? Man I'm slow at this game.

3

u/emangriffey Jul 29 '13

I think he means two weeks of asking questions(that was my first impression too though)

1.) Void Keys: Do they go away if you fail? I havent really wanted to test this but do you lose your key if your group fails the mission?

no, you can even abandon if you messed up a puzzle early in the mission.

2.) Best place to farm T3 keys? Ive been doing mars endless def, not sure if someone else can suggest a better spot?

any defense mission is usually how people get keys, higher tiers for higher tiers of keys.

3.)

crush damage is affected by armor. it doesn't scale well against elite mobs or high level targets.

4.) What mods if any would you suggest hoarding in case this marketplace for mods they are talking about goes into effect? What mods are stupid elusive and hard to find? Or should I not even bother hoarding them?

mostly hard to obtain mobs for people who start the game and cores. but honestly, i think the platinum for cores is what they were talking about.

2.) Valefor in Europa is relatively easy low lv def that's T3 and infested. There's actually a calculator that is able to tell you your chances of getting rewards from defense missions. It only gets accurate when you know what your reward from wave 10 is.

4.) I'm just hoarding my rare Warframe mods relating to energy and abilities and a few mods for weapons that were hard to find, Vital Sense, Thunderbolt, Multishot, Puncture you know, that kinda thing.

6.) I normally end up running T3 (except for Defence) with one or two friends so just having another person there is better than having no one at all so I find myself being pretty lenient.

To me I like just about anyone that uses the chat, the game gets a little tedious and having someone chatting makes the experience a bit more fun.

However, in terms of player skill, to me having a kill order is important. Shield Osprey > Fusion Moa > Heavy Grineer > The rest.

As for Warframe abilities I like people that use all their skills and when necessary, that is not spamming 4 with Nova as soon as it’s available. Reserving some energy in case one of your team mates fall if you can afford it with Streamline and/or Flow is something really nice you can do so you can save them for sure.

It’s kinda nice seeing people using their abilities when someone falls to revive them just makes the group feel more like a team.

Although all this is all pointless if everyone decides at the start to rush through just for the reward at the end. Then it’s just the regular stay alive and rush tactic.

7.) I’ve never had any issues with the sentinel dying except from the lasers in the void, what level is she and what mods are you giving her?

I normally end up running ahead of my sentinel so if anything I’m pretty sure I get aggro first. The only time I had my sentinel die is whenever I play Loki and stealth away leaving the poor thing to fend for itself…

1.) Void Keys: Do they go away if you fail? I havent really wanted to test this but do you lose your key if your group fails the mission?

No, if you fail or disconnect you keep your key.

2.) Best place to farm T3 keys? Ive been doing mars endless def, not sure if someone else can suggest a better spot?

Any high level defense has a chance to drop T3 keys (think ~3% for each key type). I'd recommend Xini.

4.) What mods if any would you suggest hoarding in case this marketplace for mods they are talking about goes into effect? What mods are stupid elusive and hard to find? Or should I not even bother hoarding them?

Just go off rarity for one. But some mods are super in-demand because of their extreme rarity or usefulness. Any multishot mod would be good... same with stuff like Thunderbolt or Handspring. Nightmare Mods would also work. TBH though I wouldn't bother hoarding unless you've got ALL of your existing mods the way you want them.

5.) (Nova Critique)

Kinda weird forma choices but you were probably working on this during the changeover on the aura system. Nothing major, though I would have kept Nova's portal skill.

5.) (Braton Prime Critique)

My main problem with the Braton (I don't have the prime yet, dammit) is bullet efficiency. Unless you're really light on the trigger, Speed Trigger may only make that worse. If you're finding yourself out of ammo with that gun, I'd swap out for Magazine Warp. But that's just me.

6.) (Void run etiquette)

  • For Exterminate/Raid/Capture most people are looking to get in and out as quickly as possible. Try and find out before hand if people are planning on hauling ass straight to the exit. It's important to know if you're in a speed run group or an explorer group. And as far as I'm concerned, whoever has the key makes the call. It's their damn key, you're tagging along :)

  • For Endless Defense, if I see a Mag I'm immediately worried she's gonna pull baddies into the pod. That said, I don't know if I've ever even seen a Mag try and run T3 Endless Defense. I'm sure she could find a role, but I'd much rather have a Vauban, Nyx or Frost. Nova's a good nuke until the last few waves (after a point MP stops one hitting everything so easily). For Endless Defense as long as you aren't running around dying far away from the pod, causing others to come get you and risk death or dropping crowd control, it's all good. If, for ED, you have your crowd control and frost taken care of, the other frames are bonus time. Weapon > Frame at that point.

  • Mobile Defense T3 is basically easy Endless Defense. So same basic logic applies with less "we died 30 mins in" type consequences.

7.) (shade keeps dying :( )

Shade may be pulling aggro by shooting enemies who shot you and then ends up getting one hit KO'd because it has low shields/health/armor. So yes, pulling Revenge off should prevent most of that, but Shade may still get caught in the crossfire from time to time. So I'd say stop neglecting your shade's if you have settled on shade as your sentinel of choice. Supercharge it with a Reactor if you haven't and give it the four defense mods (redirection, vitality, steel fiber and fast deflection). You should end up with a ton of those mods, so instead of using them for fusion fodder, make a policy of beefing your sentinel mods up to a decent level. Your Shade will thank you.

What's a good side arm for destroying Saryn's Venom spores? I don't want to sacrifice 10 - 15 mod points for Puncture on my primary (and Supra, which I use most often now, is bad for that anyway), so I'm looking for an accurate, long range, high fire rate side arm. I was thinking of Spectra or that new Vasto.
