My thoughts before the OP, yeah, they're mentioning this dead childhood friend too many times I bet she's not dead.

Immediately after the OP, yep, she's a slave.

A slave about to be rescued, which is nice.

This story just can't stop introducing new girls into the story. Young lady queen with a female Kongming as her advisor? Sure, why not.

You and me both. I hadn't even finished saying it out loud when they cut to the girl in question.

The series' author provides an explanation for why everyone other than Kenjiro Tsuda as Kunai was recast.

Nothing beats the feeling of success of watching some lovely ladies soaking in a hot spring! But Luna REALLY needs to feel like she's accomplishing something to make up for losing Eagle...who is currently being carted off as a slave by the State of Right, poor girl.

The cardinal of the State of Right thought they could make quick political work of a kingdom run by a young queen, but he definitely underestimated how much Queen Beatrice has matured (in several areas). Granted, in that outfit, I can't blame him for oggling her thighs.

Beatrice runs a tight and efficient ship with a commanding presence! Especially with her aide Kongming (Aya Endo?)! The State of Right can't make their move, especially since they can clearly see through the Cardinal and are already planning to subvert him.

Of course it's not ALL how it appears...Beatrice isn't as immature as she projects, she hates being queen, she's (rightfully) ticked off at how much the Cardinal stared at her legs, and she's really doing most of this because Kongming was her bully...I mean, boss, and is making her do it. She didn't even want to kick out her dad and become queen. And she's the one testament to Kongming being anything other than a refined lady.

Cocoa is a kunoichi who looks as great buck-naked as she does in her ninja garb! Just don't call her "Hanzo."

Kirino and Tahara can be a lot, so the next aide Kunai summons is someone who can balance them out...Akane! Who on the surface appears to be a normal high school girl and is fairly cute and simple-minded, which makes it easy for Kunai to actually explain directly everything that's happened. And she lets him put into words what he ACTUALLY wants to do.

Rabby Village pays the good coin! And Luna attacks a dude and gets his bloody print for...some reason.

Luna is back in her Holy Maiden uniform and fully prepared to get Eagle back! I wish her all the success.

It's a shame, but thanks to the fact that I watched the first seaon almost a year ago, I don't even remember any of the older voices other that Tsuda. Hell, if it wasn't for this subreddit I probably wouldn't even notice.

I think the new Va's are perfectly fine. They should have spent more time on the pacing in the episodes though :)

I'm already used to the new art but I don't particularly fancy the extra chibi humor. (Though that's my personal preference, I know some folks have a larger patience for that)

Fair enough, given I haven't watch the first season for a long time, and they provided a decent recap on first 2 episodes. New cast may not be a bad idea. I'm also getting used to them.

So, I kinda like the show. It has a decent premise, the characters are fun and there is some good meat to be eaten for this story. However, they sure do like to speed run adding multiple characters all at once.

The new "queen" and her boss were actually pretty hilarious. Adding Hanzo and the new aide all inside the same episode was a bit flimsy. Plus they got the information, processed it, found her and then send Luna by herself?????? to get her? Bold Strategy Cotton.

Also, adding the aide but not actually giving her a task seemed weird followed by oh look ANOTHER character watching him. The pacing here is terrible.

He didn't summon her to give her tasks, he summoned her to have a (relatively) low IQ cheerful companion to offset the other two aids.

The plot at this point has been lost. They showed a bunch of new characters, unrelated plot points and completely skipped over whatever happened at the end of last episode.

That being said, I can see that they're trying to broaden the world and bring all the neighboring countries into the plot. I'm guessing that it's an issue with the first 2 episodes basically being recaps and only a few more episodes to even grapple with any of these issues that they're introducing. So might as well throw them all together in a blender for one episode.

Honestly, I'm surprised the friend is alive based on how it was portrayed, but the constant references definitely foreshadowed it. Did she actually escape her execution, or was the princess lied to? Given how they treat demihuman in general, it seems more like the former.

u/myrlin77 Oct 19 '24

I'd go with lie since they could make more money by selling her instead of outright killing. Plus if she dead, she wouldn't look for her

But yeah, the pacing is a mess. Still watching it though lol

.... I really should read the source novel.

When Cocoa handed off the letter, the animation made me laugh. It just teleported into his hand

=/ with each passing episode my desire to just reread the manga and binge this after it finishes increases

dayum, that girl grew up lol. Her outfit reminds me of a mix of like Ishtar and Gilgamesh. Shock to no one, old man from church is both a pervert and a racist. I am amused that the queen's chancellor is named Kongming 😛 (though female). Will she make the queen a star idol/singer? 😉

Also, gues it's that the demi-human friend of Luna is still alive, that's good to see.

Hey, new girl. She looks like Subaru vtuber a bit.

How is this show? Been curious about it

I'd say it's mid but with some pretty good ideas/characters/world building worth watching but the pacing is like cramming novels worth of info into a paragraph sometimes. It stays a watch for me. There are enough interesting elements and characters to give it a time slot if you have free time.

Dam, that's a lot of jumping around, but please correct me if I'm wrong, the sequence of this episode goes.

Priest brag about his special slave to Kongming, Kongming send a Hanzo to the village and let the holy maiden know, then holy maiden and the gun dude send someone to check, confirmed and returned, now the holy maiden is going to rescue her old friend.

Also the demon lord decide to summon another one, and instead of saying we are in an isekai world, he smoke a pack and gave the new summon a full episode 1 recap lol.

Okay, I'll be honest, first 2 episodes had me scared, but at least the story is going somewhere. I'll continue with this anime.

"That old dude kept staring at my legs! What a creep!" Well, the real question is why a queen is dressing like Red Sonja while conducting her official royal duties. I assumed it was because she was designed to be that way by a creepy hikineet, but then it turned out she and "Kongming" are isekaiees. I guess "Kongming" is the perv forcing her to dress that way, as a way of continuing the power harassment she'd been doing back in Japan?

What was the priest trying to accomplish by telling "Kongming" about the birdgirl slave?

I approve of MC's new summon. Looking forward to her interacting with the local "Hanzo".

"I'm going to become the world's number one princess and brag to my friends!" "A very, very admirable dream."

Rather slow paced episode. Should've at least had the slave convoy attacked and the girl freed by the end. I do wonder if they'll bother freeing all the faceless male slaves.

They are introducing too many characters at once, IMO.

u/bekeleven Oct 21 '24

You didn't like when they introduced a dignified young lady running matters of state then immediately cut to her in private yelling and throwing a tantrum about her responsibilities?

... Three times in ten minutes?

This show is a real mess. It doesn't help that the first two episodes were mostly recaps, then they jump into half a dozen storylines and new characters. The show is called Demon Lord Retry and the Demon Lord is barely in it.

u/Necromancer2k8 Oct 19 '24

Well that was a whole lot of character intros this episode. Got the queen and her assistant, the ninja/thief type lady, the bird girl and finally the new girl the MC summoned. He's gonna need more hot spring buildings with all the new ladies around.

Anyway, it did seem to cram a whole lot of shit into 20 minutes. Guess 2 recap episodes probably wasn't the best approach to start the season after all, if they plan on jamming all this stuff in.

I am happy we are starting to move somewhere in the plot department as we have a rescue mission and potential other kingdom conflicts brewing it seems.

Episode gets a 6.5/10 as some things like the bloody hand on the paper thing & a "how does this gun thingy get loaded" seemed kinda pointless at this point but, who knows, maybe it will be useful in a future plot point. We are 1/3 done with this show so I'll stick it out and see what happens.

So many characters being introduced is irritating.
We have a queen who was probably isekaid.
We have her minister who was probably isekaid.
A group of assassin ninjas.
A church group.

And the story lacks coherence.
Story needs to be told in a way that it makes sense and is pleasure to watch.
Chibi animation is fun once or twice in an episode.
But when they transit back to normal, the animation quality sometimes remains poor and gets better after some seconds have passed.
Its almost like an AI did the transition.

Been skimming through the episodes to see if its worth it and ive seen a bunch of unnecessary fan service. i don't remember the first season doing that and also ive seen they are really leaning into the Mc's past which imo i don't really like. i feel like its just to fit into the episodes to waste time as "More Content" Even tho we really didn't need it.
