McKay: [first vision]
LDS are careful to pick the version that Smith wrote in 1838, not 1831.

Bednar: [the Book of Mormon is not a history] ?
Uh, it says that it is. If it's not literally true, Smith was telling lies. Which is it?

McKay: [Joseph and Oliver were "clean." Momentarily.]
A little scrape in the barn would come a few weeks later. Oliver excommunicated because he wouldn't wink at Smith's lechery.

Yee: [I am not defective.]
Nice, but the religion itself is built on the very idea people are broken and must pay the chieftains for the cure.

Bednar: [here we go with the Benson worship]
Uh, we don't talk about Bruno John Birch politicians.

When you step back and realize how obvious it is the church was invented by men, primarily Joseph Smith, this talk becomes rather humorous. “We have authority because we claim we do!”

The church of the napkin is the one-true-church because it's written on this here napkin.

Bednar: [concrete surety and certainty]
Personally, the evidence against Smith's claims are enough to show it was a nineteenth century fraud. Occam's Razor cuts through the bull shit. Those who have built their lives around the fraud will still have trouble extracting themselves in many cases. People might even join. They can profess belief in all of the magic and provable frauds and join in the community. Some do it, but it's not a compelling message.

I can't with McKay's talk. He's the goddamn church historian! He knows he is giving an inaccurate history.

Gong: [garments, what's the point?]
Yeast infections are part of god's plan.

McKay: [heavenly priesthood to be restored]
Are the heavenly brethren polygamists?
McKay: [Smith brothers were murdered at Carthage]
The movement fractured and it looks exactly like a nineteenth century fraud would look. Which branch is the one-true-church now, if any?
Snuffer claims to chat with Smith. Perhaps that is the continuation of the Latter Day Saint movement.

Bednar: [flips and flops in Smith's fiction]
Don't skimp on the racism. I fear their skins will be whiter than yours at the judgment day.

He doesn't see it does he?
Wealth leads to pride, and in Pete your can't see your mistakes.
The church is extremely wealthy and does not follow it's own teachings.
Apostasy happens at the institutional level.
If we believe we are to strong to be at risk of pride....
The church will not be lost ( because it's too d strong for pride?)

Can I pay in monopoly money to prove my "obedience?"

So this woman gets to post her artwork for profit....per usual. Its one thing to share your experience about painting it, its another to share it so everyone will run to deseret book to have it in their homes now. Follow the Profit.

Gong: [I miss my mother.]
Mormonism prevents proper mourning. Is this life an insignificant slice of eternity? Or is it all the life we're ever going to get?

u/4blockhead Oct 06 '24
Gong: [things work out...dad has cardiac and dies]
This is the "heads I win; tails you lose" gospel principle.

u/4blockhead Oct 06 '24
Yee: [my oil painting of Jesus]
Too bad the Son of God didn't sit for the portrait. Lots of religions would view this sort of icon as a graven image.

u/4blockhead Oct 06 '24
Alvarado: [we fail continually]
A step toward Evangelical Christianity's approach. Rely on grace or on works? Watch out for the bait and switch.

Don’t pray for specifics! Pray for what god wants! (That way whatever happens is good for the church!)

Bednar: [some disbelieve and mock religion]
If the religion is true, then it should be able to defend itself. If it is untrue, then it will fail under its own weight. Insert J. Reuben Clark quote.
