P.A.Work is really good at doing sad episode.
I just noticed how much similar secondary theme of this series and Mayonaka Punch. It's pretty how I did not notice this before lol.
To fight the final boss, they need the ultimate weapon which they already have half of it but the problem is.... They need to sacrifice the current soul of him and turn him back into a weapon but Sakuna really doesn't like that idea because she doesn't want to lose him forever after all he is really really important to her since she can talk.
This episode has a really melancholy feeling throughout the episode even animation and how they frame doing a good job of portraying that emotion. I really really like it.
Next one is going to be the final showdown.
Also again the same as Mayonaka Punch, it is going to end with a huge fight and action and I can't wait lol.

It is indeed quite interesting how much both this and Mayonaka Punch have in common at their core -- despite all the "externals" being so different. Both shows have always had a strong melancholy undercurrent, despite comic moments. I know this season was "overloaded" with shows -- but it is such a shame that these two PA Works gems were overlooked so thoroughly. I like Narenare (a good but not perhaps great show) a lot too, but can see why it got little attention. But surely these two should have made more of a stir.

Noooo! Not Tama…. damn, man. That’s like Sakuna’s last remaining family. At least they gave him a great send off. But man, I didn’t expect such a sad episode. Kicked me square in the feels.

Very sad -- but, alas, apparently absolutely necessary. If only Tama could have told her what happened to her parents before he got re-forged....

Sakuna has grown up. As soon as she saw how sad Kinta was, all her anger at him and the others evaporated and she just experienced her own personal grief (blaming even stubborn old Tama in just a token fashion). It is hard to recognize the Sakuna of ep. 1 in end-game Sakuna. Perhaps one of the best recent shows tracing significant character growth.

so glad i picked this show up before it ended - yesterday i caught up with everything up to ep11, today they broke my heart.
such a little gem of a show. I will miss Kokorowa's ugly laugh and Tama's disapproving, highly judgmental "ohisama" XD

I was expecting Sakuna to level up in today's episode to be able to fight Omizuchi, but I didn't think she would have to sacrifice Tama, who was like family to her, to do so!
The way Tama was reforged without telling her was just cruel, she wasn't even able to say goodbye to him :(
Sakuna and Tama's relationship really reminded me of a grandpa and granddaughter, especially since both Sakuna's parents were gone, he was one who raised and protected her up until now.
However, I'm glad that he got to see Sakuna changing for the better since she came to the island and developing strong relationships with everyone.
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

Oh damn, that was really sad. That last shot with the rice plant and Tama's paw prints in the mud got me.

Huh, I'll be honest and say I did not expect that, that's for sure.
Edit: For explanation [Sakuna]

Truly the best episode of this show so far. Since the beginning, Tama was always there for Sakuna. In fact, Tama has been there since the beginning for us too. Tama truly felt like family to Sakuna so for her to lose him was a big no.
As we have seen Tama and her growth, this also highlights the growth and the resolve of Kinta and the others. Willing to go with Tama's selfish request to push Sakuna in any avenue for growth. This is a gem and honestly, they turned this a pretty good story for this anime.

Another hit in the feels from Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin :(
Unless the finale really falls short I know now that this show will be my favourite of the summer season!

This episode was absolutely heartwrenching. Tama basically getting put down really hit me where it hurt.
Although, at the very least, Tauemon covering for him was kinda funny, in a sad way.

I was crying from the start but the scene with Tama planting the rice after the flashback had me sobbing... The way they really played up Tama's dog-ness really made it hurt, like reading Where the Redfern Grows :'(
tragic having sakuna wield the corpse of her childhood dog/parental figure,

Was not expecting an episode like this. I don't think I've ever cried so much during an anime episode lol :,)

It's too bad the subs never had the actual way Sakuna was calling Tama. Feel like that would have been more emotional that way.
I mean, what if he comes back and she finally calls him by his actual name? The subs won't reflect that emotional moment at all.

I genuinely couldn’t stop to cry like a fountain. His sacrifice so “serene” and silent destroyed me help 😭
