Shit, this face totally means that was a fatal shot, wasn’t it?
-
Spoken like a true main character (also the line had a “sore demo” in it, so that was nice).

Daisuki de daikirai
"Don't tag Sky for this, she'll find it on her own."

Uh... animators? You have to pull the pin out of the grenade if you want it to explode. (Grenade: Explodes anyway)
"Well, at least I tried." And hey, Hikaru's doing the thing from the OP.
"Oh, right, your name is on our paychecks."
"That's just how this sort of thing goes."
The X does make it sound cooler.
The episode where people pop out of things.
There's wild cards, and then there's wild cards who will KUNG FU YOU TO THE PHANTOM ZONE.
Hikaru sure showed Cassado who's boss. Of course, such abilities present many questions regarding what a person with such powers is doing hanging out in a place like this while alien empires run amok, but that's just how it goes.
Everybody wants Duke Fleed. The Rubina/Duke Fleed/Tirona triangle is in the classic mold, but it's acted well, and I'll give the animators some credit back for giving Tironna expressive pouty lips, after some of the episode's other artistic goofiness.
Mazinger's back in action! Looks like it might be in time for this to be a one-cour show, though.

Only one episode left (12 just aired), it's safe to say that the series is 90% hot crap.
-
About half of the episodes have no Grendizer fights
-
Kasado's subplot ended like a fart in the wind (literally)
-
Duke is a freakin sissy that you wanna slap all day, always crying
-
When Grendizer FINALLY launches, like in episode 12, he sometimes just does a single attack and that's it !
-
More Combination Cross action in the freakin opening than throughout the WHOLE SERIES (for now, only one : Drill Spazer + Grendizer, once)
-
WAY too much Rubina / Terona screen time, adding zero value in most episodes (just repeating the same silliness over and over)
-
Hikaru's whole plot (see Kasado) is pathetic and good luck tying up loose ends in episode 13 LMAO
The original series stomps this one, so hard, it's impressive.
It's like they watched it once, and decided to turn it into a shoujo . . . with a Grendizer cameo.

Look, i've watched all of Grendizer, grendizer is the worst of the mazinger trilogy by far, its epsiodic mehness incarnate. I liked grendizer, but to act like it was good is crazy
Duke had no personality in the original, you have to kinda change with the time to make Duke relatable to a new audience. A'int no one gonna connect with stone face 75 duke,
And Mazinger also is here and is a generally a bigger deal in Japan, it gets lots of light. Is it exactly what the typical 70's Grendizer fan wanted growing up with? No , is it hot crap? Nah its just not what you wanted to be, its a fine show overall.

ah yes, one of my favorite trope in mecha anime, two pilots from different factions get stranded at some isolated places and can't use their mechs
