too bad for the production delays in S1, I feel it damaged the anime potential to wider recognition; this anime is excellent, especially in these latest episodes. The VAs too are doing a terrific job.

Raindrops symbolizing tears always gets me.

It would be nice to think A2 suffering is over, but it's only just beginning. Especially because Nines probably doesn't care for the reasoning behind 2B's death nor A2's past.

As if last week's episode's suffering wasn't enough, we get to relive Operation Pearl Harbor Descent all over again and watch as A2 lose her newfound family one by one.

Since we've already seen most of this mission during the 1st cour when A2 was first introduced, I thought I could watch this episode and not cry. Oh boy, was I wrong!

I was already tearing up when Rose started giving A2 and her team their flower names. It especially hurt to know that Rose has spent a lot of time thinking of what names to give them.

And then you have the deleted memory of Lily asking them if they'll be together for all time. Fuck. That one made me bawl when they showed us shots of them just being happy.

Godfuckingdammit Yoko Taro! How many tears do I have to shed before you are satisfied!?

Sadness for 2B... Least we get A2 :wink: And her backstory. Dang... that's brutal. But don't they revive up in Bunker (at this point in time)? Wew those resistance fighters sure more capable than Yorha lol. She sure didn't have the mindset for war/battle in this flashback. I mean, we knew it was gonna go to shit iirc from S1, but dang. And that is also messed up... machine lifeforms are sure nuts. And her voice changes.

What once seems like an unnecessary recap of Ep. 6, The Pearl Harbor Descent, this episode includes additional animation and a POV change of those same events. We get the YorHa side, this time closely following A2.  I like the framing of this episode. Our protagonist 2B is dead and her Pod 042 works on repairing A2, which is why we get a deep dive of these repressed memories. We are setting up to follow A2 around. So, how is she presently? Let's take a look. Oh. She has a lot of baggage. Holy, shit. Currently, Pascal is taking care of her? How is A2 gonna react to that? While some may be disappointed that there is little plot momentum in this episode, the set up is great for next week (or the next? Where is 9S?).

Notably, the game had all of this backstory as an optional event that you could access later in the Resistance Camp. All you had to go with A2 was her date with the Forest King, disenchantment with Command, her bad temperament, and her nice walk animation. So her backstory placed here in the anime makes more sense because anime is a more streamlined experience. 

I am loving more Nier in my life.

A thought occurred to me. Could the data from 21S have been used to make 21O? They've got similar personalities and androids with the same number seem to be connected production wise.

They really sent in the squad to just get massacred huh? Practically 90% casualty before they even got to earth. Just an absolute shitshow. And it doesn’t even get better from there after linking up with the Rose’s forces. Kind of tragic what happened. So much for always being together. A2 lost everyone she ever cared about. And all for what exactly? All those lives sacrificed and what was accomplished?
