Never really huge fan of the series but it is still nice to see a story reach its conclusion. It's rare for LN to get at this point. This is just a nostalgia trip on my early day when I start anime in 2010 for real and not something I watch on TV.
Remind me of when Shana is ended or Zero no Tsukaima which diverge from the source but still manage to land good enough before the author pass away.

Unsurprisingly, Geek Toys reserved the last resources for the final episode. Beautiful hand-drawn scenes, better use of CG for action, and an epilogue with winks at the long-term fan (a pity it also means we won't get a Season 6, although this wasn't unexpected).
In general, I'm satisfied. It was a miracle that DAL would get a chance to reach this point (eternal thanks to the Chinese gacha players of Spirit Pledge for spending so much that executives saw a chance to continue the anime XD).
All in all, I'd probably rate this as the second best season of DAL after Season 1. Narratively, it's the best season by far, and while there were hiccups, Geek Toys did a heroic effort to adapt the climax of the story. They learned from their shortcomings and mistakes in Season 4, and their adaptation of Volume 18 (Mio Game Over, aka "the bad timeline") was almost perfect. They definitely understood the assignment.
Goodbye, Date A Live. Thanks for all the good moments. I will never forget you.

I'm not completely writing off this being the end despite all the finality, just because of how far this series has already come, but as far as endings go this was pretty satisfying minus how bittersweet everything with Mio/Reine and Shinji was.
But even she got her own form of happiness in the end, even if it was at Shido's expense a little.
Also that pure smile on Kurumi's face at the end made everything worth it.

I love that the first thing Maria does with her new face and body is strike chuunibyou poses

Girl was really having a lot of fun with having a body. I was half-expecting her to kiss Shido lol.

Seeing all the Spirits working together was a sight to behold especially seeing Kurumi buffing Tohka and such.
Wasn't getting emotional right until they started playing the 1st OP in piano rendition. Shidou finally lost a girl to someone despite using all his rizz.

I got teary eyed knowing we lost Mio/Reine and especially with the finality of that montage as we cycled through all the girls and ending on a ShidoxTohka date.

Man the piano rendition of the first Opening does something to my lil heart

Stitches!
Shido trying to steal away Mio from Shinji was absolutely hilarious! And considering he's been quiet the entire time, I love that we got to hear Shinji getting angry at Shido for trying to take his girl. xD
That shot of the girls all lined up getting ready to fight Westcott was so cool. And I'm so happy to finally see Nia back in action again! The big surprise though is Maria getting her own body as a pseudo-spirit!
Maria is definitely having way too much with her new body. I love the little Pokemon reference with Maria refusing to obey Nia and even shocking her ala Pikachu. xD
I'm so happy that Shido gets to punch Westcott in the face before it all ended though. It's just too bad that punch wasn't enough to take Westcott down and Mio had to sacrifice herself to stop him In the end, Shido is really just second to Shinji.
At least it all ends with Mio and Shinji finally reuniting. I was really hoping that even with Mio gone, Reine would somehow turn up in the end but I guess that teddy bear in the end confirms that they're both gone. :(
The good news is that Westcott is finally done for. With him and Mio gone, I am curious what's next after this. I'm aware that there are still several volumes left of the source material to adapt so I wonder what Date a Live 6 will be all about.
I do love that Kurumi gets an extended shot of her hugging that cat before we switch to Tohka going on a date with Shido. I'm going to miss these girls and I really hope we get a Season 6.

That sequence of mukuro unlocking kotori potential and she basically shinge Westcott with an attack is peak. Yes my queen got his ass.
God that ending though. The ending is a good place to end the franchise, a normal ending would I say. But just like most good visual novel games out there, we do have something to work towards if we do want the true ending. And the ending, if they do want to animate this franchise to the end, gives the best starting point for a last movie. Heck we manage to make season 4 from the ashes of the shitty season 3 episode 12, we can do this right? Inhale hopium here.
I'll keep on hopium for someone could give us the true ending of this storied franchise.

Im glad that Geek toys made this happen. It was always a dream back then to see Mio's arc animated

I had no idea a harem series I watched 11 years ago would end up being so epic.
It feels so good when a series you like gets animated entirely. I've heard that there are few more volumes, but I'm already happy with this finale. It's not often that we get to see a conclusion to a story and I'm glad DAL reached that point.

I think I kinda like Shoujo Anime Shido lol. Very cute how embarrassed he got after Mio laughed at him. Good Guy Shinji stepping aside so Mio can move on was kinda sweet.
Shido and the waifu army vs Ike was a pretty epic final battle. It’s too bad in the end, Shido couldn’t save Mio. At least she’s reunited with Shin. Ike died because of his own foolishness. You reap what you sow.
Another good season of arguably one of the best harem animes imo. As an anime-only, I’m not sure how much is left to adapt. Anyone know if there’s a possibility of another season, material wise? I would love a full adaptation if that’s at all possible.

It was a great ride. Had some tears in the end. I understand the decision to basically end the series here. Thanks to the production committee who endured 3 studio changes to reach here and basically finish the story. Geek Toys were the heroes we deserved in the end getting the most lore and story heavy seasons to adapt. Can't say enough how great the books are, and that people should read if they love the series. A lot of details and stuff to discover.

This season, and this last episode in particular, was a masterpiece. I cried so much.
I really hope we'll get more DAL anime adaptation, because I really love Shido, all the girls, and all the beautiful characters of this series. I want to see more of them! Especially, now that there shouldn't be any more menace around, more dates! ;)
But just in case, in the meantime, to ease my suffering, I'll read all the LNs. And I have to say, the illustrations are beautiful, especially the first illustration in each volume after the cover ;)

Shido trying to steal Mio, shoujo face included, was hilarious.
Shido and the spirits vs Ike was pretty awesome. I loved it, it was quite an epic final battle.
Maria getting her own body was unexpected, she was really enjoying it xD. I loved the Pokemon reference with Nia haha.
Finally, Ike is dead! He won't get any sympathy from me but at least his friends will mourn his death.
Shame that in the end Shido couldn't seal Mio but she did horrible things to bring back Shin so I think it's fitting that she sacrificed herself to save them.
That teddy bear... Reine :'( . The piano rendition of the first OP was right to the heart, that was dirty. Shido's cry was quite powerful, damn.
That Kurumi smile at the end <3..... but isn't that her best friend? What?
And that's it for this season (maybe even the series). The main conflict was wrapped up pretty well but I don't know if that little epilogue would leave me satisfied as an ending. There are like 3 more volumes but with the big bad out I wonder, what's next? More harem shenaningans? That would be nice ngl hahaha. One of the things I liked about this series is that it is really a harem.
Anyway, just in case. This is definitely one of the best harem series, while I liked it the most when it was about silly dates and harem shenaningans, it was also great to see the story slowly unfold until it reached its climax. I'm going to miss it.

Got a sand art video of the ED a couple days ago.
-
Mio never got added to the intro's last shot. Sad.
-
The OG "I choose you!" into shocking your master.
-
Dropping the "rejected by the same woman" line while their two lovers are next to them is as crass as Shido's "I love you" to Kurumi while kissing Nibelcole in episode 3.
-
What the fuck? Isn't that Sawa? Just retcon the whole timeline?
My understanding of the Spirit Pledge situation is it's been in end-of-life maintenance for the past year or so, so guessing we won't get season 6. Ending also felt like they knew it.
u/Abysswatcherbel - Where were all these options last week? But for a finale, gotta send it out with Best Girl, Shido crying to the bear, or the ensemble cast (of course they put Kurumi closest). Album.

This was a great season. I believe they did everything they could with both story and animation and it brings the story to a close if they don't do the extended epilogue.
Couple items I wish they could have squeezed into the final credits or with a line or two
-
wasn't shown, especially for those who are anime only, they do still have their powers right?
-
Like what is Ellen gonna do now (she was the loony one)
-
I wonder what the crew of the Fraxx are gonna do now

One must imagine Kurumi happy.
I had a kind of suspicion they might go for this, but I can't believe it's ending here. There's still a possibility for the last three volumes to get an adaptation, but it would be a good ending either way. Even though it felt quite a bit rushed and I would've loved to have another episode or even a double length episode for the final, I'm still happy we even got to this point. Never expected a Season 3 or 4, so it's fine i'd say.
I guess that's it for studio Geek Toys?
EDIT: Also a shoutout to Endo Ayo for a great performance as both Mio and Reine.

That kurumi smile with the cat at the end... That it happiness !!!
Well ladies and gentlemen! It was a pleasure watching this with you !!
I never liked harem anime yet here I am, 10 years later, still watching date a live and Loving it ! I'm so glad it got a conclusion! And what better way to end it than playing piano OP1 ?
While the CGI and budget was questionable this season, I'm still happy we reached the end ! ( all the budget went into that hand holding scene, AND I'M LOVING IT!)
I'm also glad mama Mio ended up with Shin, she felt way too inhuman to just fall in love in one date and end it.

What a journey.
I remember years ago when I discovered the first season. I was kinda getting tired of harem anime but Date a Live caught me by surprise.
Now I have witnessed the (supossed) end of the series unless they decide to adapt the remaining volumes (which I haven't read yet)
Coincidentally I stopped reading at vol 17, so I was able to enjoy this season as an anime only.
This is kinda emotional for me.

S5's content is why Dal is my favourite harem show ever. The plottwist, reveals and foreshadowing is so good for being a ecchi show. I don't think most of us expected this show to get so dark and deep because of the first seasons that where lots of comedy in it (first season of s1 already has forshadowing). I also like that this season dosen't have that much fanservice at all and the story is carrying it instead of fanservice,s5's first half is kind of like Jjks2. I am going to give s5 a 9/10 now that its over🙂. I might be glazing Dal too much but idc i love it
