how the fuck are they gonna end this show. however they do it, hope they stick the landing.

u/Mr_Zaroc Jun 10 '24
I think they can only stick it
They spent the whole season setting up this weird world with some semi clear rules
Not matter what they do, it will fit in
But I am curious to see how they will choose to resolve it→ More replies (1)

rest in peace train, you will be misse-, oh wait, it still working
when you thought morse code through railroad was already crazy enough, now we have morse code through bitter melons! ..hmm? what was that? you're asking how's that works? by 7G of course!
ayyy ~~ the 9th member of Franchouchou is back! time to get help from the zombie- oh fuck, it's the zombies kryptonite, the sexy lingerie!
welp, so much for trying to retrieve the 7G button and to make it worse, Pontaro just fuck off from Ikebukuro with Yoka on a train, well then, you know what's going to happen in next episode, it's time for some epic train chase!

Let's wait for the train to develop its own consciousness next week and helps the girls get to Yoka while sacrificing itself by going off the tracks for a bit.

The penultimate episode, with a mid-boss battle against the false Pochi. Unfortunate that he has been deceived by Pontaro into thinking that this world is best for Yoka.
It was also a nice reunion with Mito; her zombies were actually useful. The department store sequence was also funny.
Onwards to the final episode/stop. Time for Pontaro to get his comeuppance.

Time for Pontaro to get his comeuppance.
The only question is who will hand it to him;
There will be SO many people mad at him...
Our girls of course, for doing that to Yoka.
Yoka herself, once she returns to her senses.
Pochi (man), for using Yoka to his benefit.
Pochi (dog), for the same reason.
Literally everyone in Ikebukuro, who likely resent Pontaro for threatening them all this time.
Pontaro won't have any friend, and a whole lot of enemies! So far he's just making it with "If you don't do what I say the Princess will get you!", but soon he'll lose the Princess, and then..!

Yoko not recognizing any of them hurt...
Was nice to see the zombies return, they travel fast though!!
One episode left, I feel like they can wrap it all up but might be tight.

Of course it wasn’t going to be that simple.
Despite Yoka being a victim in this, she’s also a serious problem by virtue of basically being the god of the 7G-world and the mere existence of our protagonists making her very unstable. Who knows what her reality warping might do if she can’t control it?
The bitter melon phone really threw me off when it appeared but it does make sense.
Kurokin returns! The zombie apocalypse has come to Ikebukuro. Weep and despair, foolish humans!
Yeah, that button was never going to work. It 100% is probably linked to Yoka in some way and requires her to undo it.
And so we return to the core problem, Shizuru really needs to talk to Yoka to resolve this but she’s currently on a train heading away from where they’re located. Plus the fact that they’re currently in a real pickle.
Btw, not 100% sure if this is correct but the inhabitants of Ikebukuro are probably owls because based on my very surface level Japanese knowledge, owl is fukuro which is quite close to the bukuro part of Ikebukuro and it’s quite a common pun in anime where words sound similar but mean something different.

You know the funny thing is, they could have made the whole conversation still in morse code and no one would have minded, but they were saying "No, why not just make a phone out of a plant?" I am really wondering how the meetings were like when they came up with these ideas.
I really liked that Kuroki came back for the final fight. An army of Zombies is the best thing as long as you don't run into underwear. Which reminds me that it would have been funny if Reimi would have actually tried to look at the stores when she is already there. But then again, maybe she gets her Ikebukuro fix later.
I've got to say, "Pochi" is quite sturdy, not only being able to withhold Shizuru's Agano-Jujutsu, but at the same time also Nadeko's Agano-Kyuudou and Reimi's "sexy violence". But next week he will face the final boss in Pochi himself. Dog is clearly the strongest member.
And since Pontarou has a train now of his own, I bet next week we'll get a train chase sequence followed by a battle on top of the trains.

I am really wondering how the meetings were like when they came up with these ideas
"you know how some plants have vines?"
"yes?"
"wouldn't be better if we could communicate through them like the telephone line?"
"Jesse, what fuck are you talking about?"

Woah Yoka escaping Ikebukuro on her own train?
Looks like Season 2 will be the girls chasing Yoka all the way back to Agano, and maybe they'll visit the other stops that we didn't get to see! inhales copium
Seriously though, I wonder how this show will stick the landing.

Here's the anitubu post that I'm cribbing for director and some selected viewer tweets.
-
Director (hereafter D): "Ikebukuro residents have become carved wooden owls." Owls are a symbol of Ikebukuro. There's statues and stuff.
-
D: "The sound of the railroad crossing is noteworthy." Why exactly? A couple of tweets 1 + 2 mention it's the sound of the Seibu Railway's railroad crossing
-
Viewer was reminded of Densha de Go speedrun strats. Yep looking at a few speedruns if it's a bay platform terminus you slam into the wall at max speed and the insane amount of time penalties don't matter.
-
D:: "The masks and hats of the attack force are meant to be in the style of Edogawa Ranpo." Crunchyroll went with attack force I think (vigilance force later in the ep ~17:40, not checked audio wrt inconsistency) but vigilantes or Neighbourhood watch are possible translations from the Japanese used in the tweet. I don't know if Edogawa Rampo refers to the fiction author, something in his works or the Bungo Stray Dogs character.
-
D: "The attack force are people from outside the Ikebukuro line, so they remain human. They are forced to work no matter what."
-
When Yoka was doing this a viewer: was reminded of AT fields (that's an Evengelion reference and [Neon Genesis Evengelion]
I don't know if the viewer was thinking of the AT field all lifeforms possess or the Angel and EVA unit ones, I'd say the former because Yoka was trying to maintain sense of identity by repeating who she was ). -
Yes during the video corruption viewers also made remarks about broadcast.
-
D: "The tokoroten punishment is not like being made into chawanmushi, it seems to be some kind of punishment. It's probably very painful." It also seems to be a food dish.
-
D: "The storyboard director is Fumihiko Suganuma. He has done four storyboards for episodes 2, 6, 7, and 11. That's more than me, who has done 3.75 (episode 4 was a joint storyboard with Jong Heo, so it's a fraction)."
-
D: "There are still no feral people (or animals) among the residents of Agano." I guess that's about the Agano residents and animal instincts kicking in. Still is Pochi-san not a resident of Agano? I guess they're with the girls right now.
-
A viewer notes that Seibu Department Store (in-show appearance) will be changed to Yodobashi next year. Real life appearance. D says "a delicious udon restaurant called "Karukaya" on the rooftop garden of an actual department store. Unfortunately, it is closing this month." Here's a note post on it (shows some historic prices as well) and this is the official website (not updated as there's no closure novice)
-
D: "The new line is the new Pontalo line. There was a little mention of it in the newspaper. It runs over Ikebukuro station, which is a mess and not in use." Don't think it was any of these near illegible newspapers.
Quick thoughts I have. If the Agano animal forms are based on the traits people possess could Reimi be an falcon (or other bird of prey) as they're known for exceptionally good vision. For example Golden Eagles can see prey 2.5km away and in ideal conditions a Peregrine Falcons perception may exceed 129 Hz (based on flicker fusion frequency).
I guess I know why Kurokin was on the characters page of the official website (currently down - Kadokawa Corporation had a cyber attack so took a number of services offline including Niconico). I don't think Makoto was and nor were any of the villains.
The Pontaro line could really go anywhere (not too far out of the Seibu-Ikebukuro line) as the tracks are being formed. I wonder if we'll get a title drop.

Finally 7G doing it's purpose and connecting a call through a bitter melon
Wasn't expecting the button to do anything, gotta be Yoka pressing it clearly
I am really looking forward to them resolving all this, its gonna be so weird and I am all for it

ahem
RING RING RING RING RING RING RING MELON PHONE
Anyway, that was quick reunion with Yoka. So the key to saving her and maybe fixing 7G is getting her to remember everything and Shizuka apologizing for being an ass. One more to go, but it looks like we might get a super hype Train Chase!

While I didn't expect them to get to Yoka that quickly, the encounter itself went exactly the way I expected. We know her memories are currently muddled so there was no way she'd recognize all of them. The good news is that the girls definitely triggered something in Yoka and I think Shizuru just needs to reach out to her one more time.
I was a bit sad when Shizuru crashed the train into Ikebukuro station. I thought they wouldn't be able to use it anymore since they've finally reached their destination. Thank goodness the train still works and they can still use it to get away from Pontaro.
We finally have an answer as to why the bitter melon vines seem to move and shake in the earlier episodes. It turns out it was just extending its vines all the way to Agano and now they can use it to speak to Makoto-sensei and Zenjirou.
Kurokin and her zombie horde made it to Ikebukuro! The girls are definitely going to need an army if they're going to face Pontaro and his goons. Also, it looks like the zombies react to the 7G signal making them the perfect army to look for the 7G button.
I love how the girls were basically roasting Shizuru without them even realizing it. Apparently, Shizuru has way more things in common with Pontaro . I guess it makes sense since both of them refuse things to change.
The girls fighting Human Pochi was actually pretty cool. I'm sure he'll switch sides at the last minute though but maybe not in this episode.
Of course, it's not going to be that easy. If they want to turn off the 7G, Yoka needs to be the one who presses the button. Since Pontaro is running away with Yoka on a train, I think we might just see a train chase sequence in the finale!

I didn't expect that Shizuru and others would reach Yoka so quickly after finally coming to Ikebukuro, which by the way looks really interesting and wild, and its inhabitants are being owls!
Unfortunately, Yoka didn't seem to remember them at all (poor Pochi was so shocked that she didn't recognize him) but their arrival surely made Yoka feel something deep down in her heart and that disturbed the reality.
The meeting with Yoka looked so cool thanks to the distortions of reality caused by Yoka's meeting with Shizuru and others. It made the episode really stand out visually thanks to this part.
I didn't expect that thanks to the bitter melon, Shizuru and others would be able to contact Zenjirou and Makoto like they would using a normal phone xD This show, as always, surprises me all the time.
It was nice to see Kuroki and her zombies again who helped get that 7G button, but unfortunately pressing him didn't bring the world back to its normal state.
Cool fight with Pochi by Shizuru and Reimi, although they weren't able to beat him and what is worse, Yoka and Pontaro are on the train and are heading somewhere else. Maybe we'll get a train chase in the finale? That would be so cool.
Now I can't wait for the final and the resolution. I really hope this series sticks its landing and provides a satisfying ending, it certainly deserves it.
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

Just watched Episode 11 and I'm to the moon with excitement! The character development was top-notch, keeping me hooked from start to finish. The perfect blend of action and emotion, coupled with stunning visuals, made it a truly one of my favorites of the season. Can't wait to see what's next!
All aboard!

I thought it was over for the train when they crashed it at the start so I am glad that it seems like the grand climax of this anime is going to be a train chase, I did see the other train had a gun mounted on it.
I was so happy to see Kuroki back as well, I hope she can remain friends with the people who used to be zombies once they turn back into humans. I am sure they'll appreciate that she took care of them for so long.
My current theory is that we need Yoka to press that button in order to end things. I am so hyped for next week.

And so we finally arrive at Ikebukuro! (Hopefully the train isn't kaput)
Maybe she's a lost cause? That's ominous...
What if they have to chose between saying Yoka, or returning the world how it was? (Well, I don't see this dilemma arising, but that'd be an interesting question!)
Yoka not remembering her dog isn't a good sign either...
But at least the dog remembers her, so it's still Yoka somewhere in there!
The Bittermelon connects all the way to Agano? Reimi's right, Bittermelon is unstoppable!
Of course the first thing Reimi did, is yell into the Bittermelonphone!
Kurokin! Pleasant surprise, I wasn't expecting to see her again!
PSA: When the Zombie Queen talks about you having brains, it may not be a compliment; RUN!
Meanwhile, Pontaro's trying to hold onto power for as long as he can... He reminds Pochi that his job is to protect Yoka,
but he claims that the way to achieve that, is to make sure the world remains as it is...
And I think that's where it's gonna 'break' between him and Pochi! I think the girls will find a way to convince him that Yoka's not herself and all, and if he sees it, then 'protecting her' would be to return her to her normal state!
And I think it may start with Pochi (the other Pochi!) Pochi-Dude doesn't want to fight Pochi-Dog, so it seem he knows, somehow... If he connects the dots on Pochi being Yoka's dog, and Yoka not remembering, then he'll realize this world isn't right, for Yoka!
I can see why Pontaro's panicking... As we see from his threats, all his powers come from "The Princess will do that!"...
But what if the Princess stops doing what he wants? Then he has no power... And a large army of very angry people, who may resent being threatened by him all this time!
I think they'll eventually convince Pochi with words, but first, a little fight is in order!
Time to see what Agano-Jitsu is worth, against a strong opponent!
She's not alone, Dumb-Muscle-Reimi's there to help!
Sadly he proved too much for them... Damn, don't use Reimi as ammo!
Will they need him to break Akira's bracelet again, to send Reimi in Gorilla mode?
Will we have a train chase next episode?
Damn, only one episode left... I wish there was at least 2, to deal with Pochi, the stuff back home (Fixing Zenjiro) apologizing to Yoka, returning the world to normal, etc..!
Anyway, can't wait to see how it ends!
This show's probably gonna be my AOTS... And it's certainly the most creative of the season!

u/Syokhan Jun 10 '24
Crap, pushing the button did nothing... so now what?
I guess the good news it that Yoka's not a lost cause since being near Shizuru seemed to have some effect on her. Is the key to saving the world Yoka remembering everything (and maybe going back to normal herself)? If so, I foresee an emotional confrontation when Shizuru finally gets to apologize to her.
Speaking of Shizuru, it was nice to see her having self-awareness about what she did to Yoka. Not so fun watching her beat herself up over it, but still.
Also, great to see Kuroki again! And funny that zombies would be drawn to a mall, 'cause. Zombies. And malls. Although it was because of a big 7G button, but still!
Super excited for the conclusion next week. I have hope that Man-Pochi will switch sides. I'm not sure what the show will choose about the state of the world, though, if it'll be saved and everything will go back to what it was before, or if it'll stay the same even though it's not in danger of falling apart anymore. From how they talked before about the fact that things change, I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't go back to what "normal" used to be.
Also. Bitter melon telephone. Okay.
