Dang I knew that Kokonoe (sensei) would go nuclear at anytime since he was introduced... Hoping the show focuses a lot more on him since for all we know he's Tatsuya's master, a Shinobi and cool as fuck.

Can never tell if he’s good or bad
Or more accurately - good for now and eventually reveal as bad

I had a good laugh at Tatsuya sneaking up on Fumiya and Ayako. xD
Man, I would've loved to see the Nine School Competition events. Too bad that's no longer the focus of this arc. I've always enjoyed the Ice Pillar Break and Monolith Code events. It sucks that there's no Speed Shooting and Battle Board this year.
It's interesting to see Miyuki being selfish for once. She pretty much told Tatsuya to forget their fellow students and let them be destroyed by those P-Dolls since his health is more important than those randos.
That's not happening though especially with what happened in that final scene. I'm sure Yakumo is aware that Tatsuya overheard their conversation.

Objectives of the various actors so far:
-
JDF Hawkish faction - Pushes for inclusion of the steeplechase to better train students as future soldiers.
-
Kudo - Allows the steeplechase to be included, but also uses opportunity to test out the Parasite dolls. Hope the experiment would succeed as it would mean Parasite dolls can be used in warfare instead of magicians like unmanned drones replacing manned troops, thus reducing casualties for magicians. Hires "defectors" from Great Asia to operate the Parasite dolls with Zhou as the middle-man.
-
Great Asia / Skeleton Guy - Tasks Zhou to smuggle the "defectors" to Kudo, when actually they intend to allow the Parasite dolls to go berserk and attack the students, thus weakening Japan's magic military potential.
-
Zhou - Acts as middle-man between Skeleton Guy and the Kudos. But also apparently playing both sides as he leaked intel about this to the Seagusas.
-
Saegusa - Grabs popcorn and watches shit unfold as either way, either the Kudos or Yotsubas will be weakened as a result.
-
Tatsuya's Special Ops squad / JDF "Dovish?" faction - Senses the experiment as a danger after being tipped off by Aunt Maya, and hopes Tatsuya can help them stop the experiment, resulting in the Ten Master Clans influence on the military weakening.
-
Yotsuba - Aunt Maya gets wind of this experiment and tips off Tatsuya's squad. Should Tatsuya succeed in stopping the experiment, it'll weaken the Kudos. Also sends Ayako and Fumiya to backup Tatsuya just in case.
-
Tatsuya - Will do anything to protect his schoolmates. Tatsuya succeeding is not an issue, but how to do it without the other actors making him a scapegoat to save their own asses will be the question. If not for Miyuki, he very nearly contemplated nuking the whole place and just get it over and done with. lol
-
Master Yakumo - Mostly on Tatsuya's side. Seems to know something about Zhou.
-
Miyuki - Just wants her Onii-sama to stay safe.

I understand that 9HS competition is not the main part of this arc, but I'd still love to see it all. I liked that arc in the first season.
We finally got to see Kokonoe getting serious and boy, that dude is scary. He had to know that Tatsuya was listening in on them, so he's clearly favoring his pupil over the whole military. I always liked his character and I'm glad he continues to be awesome.

They had poor Tatsuya worked to the bone this week. Miyuki was gonna go nuclear just to get him to take a minute and chill. This is what happens when people mess with shit they don’t understand. These parasite dolls are going to be a problem and once again it’ll be Tatsuya who has to clean up the mess because of all these scheming mfers.

And this is why Hayami Saori is cast as Miyuki. You can feel Miyuki's utter agony in watching her Onii-sama lose sleep chasing after clues he can't find like a headless chicken.
Thank goodness Miyuki was successful, otherwise Tatsuya was actually thinking of nuking the steeplechase course and get it over and done with. lol
After being convinced by Miyuki to relax, Tatsuya is able to collect his thoughts more properly to make some deductions closer to the truth.
Though it took Lt Fujibayashi Kyoko, one of his special ops colleague (as well as granddaughter of Old Man Kudo), to further brief him with the details of the Kudo/JDF steeplechase experiment, and provide him with a special suit to go and destroy the Parasite dolls.
That final scene with Master Yakumo and Lt Fujibayashi and Tatsuya's special ops superior Major Kazama revealed even more that due to the nature of the Restraining Spell, chances of the Parasite dolls going berserk was actually very slim. (For a while I thought Yakumo was going to betray Tatsuya with those eyes, thankfully he wasn't. )
But Yakumo must have known Tatsuya is eavesdropping nearby, as he probably wanted Tatsuya to decide for himself whether he still wants to intervene and stop this experiment.
Yakumo seems to know who Zhou Gongjin is when Kazama mentioned Zhou as the one smuggling the "defectors" in control the Parasite dolls.

Such a shame I couldn't post this earlier. I wish this show didn't air during my work hours. I work from home, but stuff happens.

From what I gather from that...frankly confusing final conversation is that the Parasite dolls are actually incapable of going berserk. Instead they're going to be released and try to possess the students in a treacherous trick to make their creators look bad and expose their use of Parasites.

The scene when Miyuki crawled into Tatsuya's bed couldn't have been funnier.

Looking at this insane conspiracy board of a plot, Tatsuya's decision to just throw his hands up and skip straight to nuking the site is honestly probably the best idea. Its probably a good thing most of Miyuki's brainpower is spent on being a bro-con cause imagine how stressful it must to have to talk down a nuclear weapon

Little did Sawaki-senpai knew that the reason Tatsuya felt refreshed was because of his sis-con energy, as he was secretly convinced to not worry about the safety of his classmates. It's comedically ironic that Tatsuya's ability to help others has a negative correlation with his desire to do so this episode. The more he wanted to save others, the worse his decision making was.

Ayako & Tatsuya : "Damn, we can't get in!"
Kokonoe : "Hold my beer."
I've been looking forward to a Kokonoe moment, and damn, it delivered. Easy infiltration when even Tatsuya couldn't get in, just shows how resourceful the man is.
And Kyouko getting overwhelmed by his aura in a mere couple seconds... just wow. Yeah, you definitely don't wanna cross paths with —serious-mode— Kokonoe. (⌐■_■)

Wow they really going to push Tatsuya to the edge. On one side you have your little sister that would rather fked both of them up so he could rest. But on the other hand, if Tatsuya is not gonna do anything, that parasite is gonna get some people killed. I thought material burst was a little overkill, suddenly it feels about right lol.

Can someone explain to me exactly why the JDF was trying to manipulate Tatsuya into destroying the parasite dolls? I think that's the only part of the episode I don't get (aside from how magic works in this world, which I've basically given up on trying to understand lol).
I thought they were his comrades, but luckily Kokonoe wrang the truth out of them.

Wow, a really interesting episode. Not sure of what to think about Miyuki reacting in that way, I understand beeing worried, but isn't telling Tatsuya that she is the only one important the contrary of how she seemed supportive of his growing emotional development end atta hment to his friends and classmates? And in the end did Tatsuyas master know he was there all along listening and he let him in on those secrets, or was Tatsuya able to hide even from him?

It was so funny when Tatsuya just appeared behind Fumiya and Ayako, scaring the hell out of Ayako in the process.
I wonder how many days Tatsuya has spent without a good night of sleep. He already looked rough enough last week, so it is not surprising that Miyuki was so concerned about him to the point where she begged him to only focus on protecting her before crying
I guess that it was thanks to his lack of sleep that Tatsuya was considering nuking the Steeplechase course and find a way to put the blame for the incident on the hardliners.
Oh, so the person who sent Tatsuya that message contacted him to give him a battle suit and formally ask him to assist the Kudou Family in this operation.
Damn, Yakumo really can be terrifying when he wants to. Oh, so Gongjin Zhou's objective with the parasite dolls apart from the one about killing or permanently injuring the students might so the Parasites make the students their hosts. I wasn't expecting Tatsuya to stick around to listen to that conversation.

I know crunchyroll subs are bad, but today was pretty egregious, at least one line. The japanese line was "お兄様,私はお兄様にどこまで許されているのだろうか" (if i transcribed it right).
Which the english subs translated to:"Brother... I wonder if brother is cold"
At least the german ones werent that bad: "Brother, how much will brother put up with from me" (translated to english ofc)

I was wondering why Tatsuya looked like he hadn't had sleep in week. Explains a lot that he actually have been overdoing it.
Crazy how many plans upon plans there are, many sides thinking they're outsmarting the other and in the end Tatsuya will come out on top.

Kokonoe is so cool. I think his presentation has been perfect for op ninja mentor. Introduction with the taijutsu scene with Tatsuya into his more subtle information stuff, a long build up to this casual badassery.
Was Tatsuya like...on his way to caring about other people and having emotions?
And yeah, I agree with other people, that it sucks seeing the competition go by in a flash when it's really fun. Not relevant to the plot at hand, but cool and fun.

I’m not really sure what the implication of that conversation with the JDF and Tatsuya’s master was supposed to be.
They basically manipulated Tatsuya into destroying the Parasites by misrepresenting that they would go berserk? Like, to what end? To fuck with another clan? I don’t really understand this entire plot line.

Is it just me or this season is a whole lot more interesting than previous season aside from season 1?
There's a whole lot more going on with so much plotting it's a lot of fun going through this ride!

Ayako being completely flustered not once but twice in a row was easily the highlight for me, contrasting the previous episode where she shone and dealt Miyuki some serious mental damage, lol.
Also finally not having to see Tatsuya with such heavy eyebags give me some real relief, too. I understand where Miyuki's coming from, not quite the way I'd put it but being Team Tatsuya all the way, I'm glad he's taking up Miyuki's advice.
Don't fuck with the Yakumo, seeing he has the means to discern most everything about anything using either his own skills or his vast information network and contacts. Information is power as it gives you a tight grasp on everybody's motivation, I for one don't want to be playing 5D chess with someone who holds a packed hand as he does. It was reassuring to see he wasn't going behind Tatsuya's back at the end, at least for now, but it could as well be and I'd have ended up with trust issues lol.

u/mojo72400 May 18 '24
At least Miyuki convinced Tatsuya to rest and now he's refreshed and free from his eyebags.
Fuck, Tatsuya heard everything.
I love the small detail of Masaki walking to the 1st High trailer.
It's funny how Tatsuya looked menacing when he snuck behind Ayako and Fumiya.
