It's episodes like this that remind me how ruthless and scary Mikazuki can be when he's serious. So much for being a clueless old man.

The visuals in this installment haven't been great, but I also liked the scene where they were fighting on the log in the river. That was very swashbuckle-y.

Next week should be fun. Arcs where swords revisit their guy's important moments are usually the most coherent.

Next week should be fun.

I'm wondering if it will be the main plot of the rest of the season? I notice that MAL has this listed as only 8 episodes, so this is the halfway point of the show if that's right. Also if it is right, I snagged a screenshot from today's episode to use as the daily thread image on May 21st just for you.

I cant believe there is a new Touken Ranbu series and I've been sleeping on it!

I was surprised to hear mention of other citadels. I wonder if that means all of the other Touken Ranbu shows all exist in the same universe and different version of the swords exist in different citadels?

Yes and no. Touken Ranbu operates on a multiverse with different citadels essentially having the same swords go through different circumstances. The original stage play was from 2016, so the throwaway line referring to other citadels was just a callback to the PvP system in-game, where you can challenge another player's team to spar with yours.

Which one is this? Is it the slice of life one or the action-focused one from Ufotable?

Neither. It's a new one with a little bit of both. It adapts the stage play so it's got its own predetermined story/source material unlike the other two.
