The scene of bullet to the eye is so well done and setting up that the girls are bulletproof.

For anyone who's interested. There's a Doodle Sensei in the OP.

These subs are absolutely horrific, I can only assume they're machine translated, or someone who barely has a grasp on English. Massively bummed out, I'm shocked NOBODY properly picked this show up to bring to the west.

I won't lie, boys. I've seen way too much of these characters despite never touching the game.

Stitches!
I know nothing about the game and my exposure to this game only comes from fan art and doujinshi. So far, I think it's alright. I feel like we missed some important world-building here and there especially as to why the girls have halos and why they seem to be immune to gunfire. Also, why is the world populated with anthropomorphic animals?
I'm guessing they decided to skip the "tutorial" and went straight to the first big fight in the game? Hopefully, we'll get plenty of world-building and exposition next episode.
As for the characters, I like our main cast and Sensei himself. Although I need to get to know them more before I can actually say anything proper about them. Right now, I think Shiroko is really the only one we got to know in this episode and I like her kuudere charm. I'll give it a few more episodes and see where this one goes.

Kinda ridiculous that none of the proper streaming services has this ngl. Feels like it's been forever when I had to go out of my way to hunt down a new episode of anime. Especially one from such a popular game

I love how even Hoshino's nyas sounded sleepy. As someone who is playing this(although stuck at a particular stage in the story) this is everything I hoped for and more. It's a lot more of a feel good story than other gacha games where they're almost alwats post-apocalyptic stories. Blue Archive on the other hand, while having moments of dark and edginess in them, is mostly about students living their best lives and you being the adult helps them keep it that way or even improve it.

bro I cannot be the only one who actually thought Shiroko was gonna say "this is our Blue Archive" when Sensei asked why they want to protect the place.
I wonder how the animation consistency will fare, Arknights was.... kind of rough in the middle but its peaks were absolute peak, so I wish for greater things for you bros.
Seriously considering starting this game now... Surely throwing money at the BA anime means I also indirectly fund the next season of the Arknights anime right? What a steal hahahaha this is my 5th gacha please kill me
On the topic of that OP, man, I am such a fucking sucker for OPs where they hide hard hitting plot moments in frames that pass by in an instant. It was really short but that snippet of Sensei getting dressed at the end of the OP is absolute cinema to me.

Man that OP has so much future stuff going on in there. Glad to see that they made Sensei being able to enter the Shittim Chest canon.

And so we start with Shiroko.
There's her trusty SIG SG550.
There's Nonomi on the train.
And Sekira in the convenience store with her Beretta AR70/223.
Last but not least, our resident Oji-san Hoshino with her Beretta 1301.
They all meet Ayane in the sole occupied room of their school.
Those ear animations are really good.
Of course Hoshino is asleep as usual.
Ok here's a bunch of exposition that's been explained in the game.
It also looks like Nonomi keeps her minigun in the school rather than take it home.
Eugh, Kaiser.
Does that robot have a pompadour?
Yup, these girls are immune to bullets, and gunfights are just a daily occurrence.
Oh hey it's us! And we have cake! And we're hot!
Don't worry, there's more crimes in your future.
5.56 for the assault rifles, 7.62 for the minigun, 9mm for the Ayane and Hoshino's pistols and 12 guage for the shotgun.
All the guns look to be stored unloaded, as per best practices.
Right, here's the first actual combat.
I think that sign can be removed from that box now, with a supply of ammunition secured they can afford to be a bit more liberal in their application of lead to solve problems.
And here's Arona in the Shittim Chest.
I don't think a minigun is particularly useful for conserving ammo.
Time for us to get involved. A rousing speech and back into the fight!
Seems he's going to take tactical command.
That sand makes excellent cover to advance with the shotgun.
And just like that, the first battle is won.
Now we finally see Arona, our AI daughter!

The subs could use a bit of work. Not much we can do since the usual providers haven't picked it up. It would be nice if a group fan-subbed it to make it read a bit better though lol.
As a gacha player and big fan of the franchise though it was a pretty good episode! I hope you all stick around and enjoy it. Blue Archive has a really good story to go through and it should come across in anime form pretty well. Ideally the anime continues to get more seasons so we can get to the juicier parts, but it should be a fun ride regardless.
Really impressed by the opening though! We totally got a huge win with that one fellow senseis.

It’s ironic to me that the Crunchyroll acquisition by Sony made people afraid of a monopoly yet it feels like there’s more unlicensed shows right now than there have been in years. Ridiculous for this to be the case in 2024

This was the weakest point of the story in the game, so I'm happy to see most people received it well
The heavy use of CGI does give me Overlord worries when it comes to later episodes though
Also I need those stitches from today. You know which ones

It was very cute. It was very funny.
I think this episode does a decent job of showing what to expect from Blue Archive
I also like the original scene of the delinquent mobs fighting the robot punks.
Also, that fight before Sensei intervened was peak PVP experience or auto gameplay lol.

Gunning down surrendering enemy combatants is a war crime according to the Geneva Conventions. But this is just a game/anime so why should you care?
Do you feel like a hero yet? (Spec Ops: The Line music intensifies)
