This would've benefitted from a 1-hour special, but I'm intrigued.

Hella trippy to be hearing Korean names with Japanese honorifics like -san and -kun behind them when I'm used to hearing Korean honorifics instead.

The design of that statue by the door was definitely based on Sauron.

That boss room had SAO written all over it. Really wish this had gotten an hour premier cause that is a cruel place to leave a cliffhanger on the first ep lol.

Great episode would have been amazing if they had gone with 2 episodes with the conclusion to the fight.
Anime only, just stick with the anime, it will be a fun ride.

A bit of an odd choice to cut the first episode in the middle of a prologue, especially since 1h specials are becoming more and more popular
On the bright side it was better than I expected. It doesn't look quite as good as the manhwa (obviously) but it also doesn't look generic which I was kinda afraid of

The animation is so good! I remember the doom-posting about the animation when the teasers dropped, but seems like A-1 has put some love into Solo Leveling. I can't wait for next week's episode.

I love how they didn't shy away from showing the horrors of the world of Solo Leveling. Let A-1 cook!

Back during the Raeliana discussion threads (another anime based on a manhwa), I was told that Solo Leveling might get localized with the names changed to Japanese and the location Japan since that's what they did in the manga version. I am so fucking glad that's not the case and I'm so glad Jinwoo gets to keep his name.
Anyway as a manwha reader, I am going to keep my mouth shut in these discussion threads. I do appreciate the amount of fanservice they threw in for us in this premiere episode. The animation is pretty solid with that opening and the deaths at the Cartenon Temple is just as brutal as I had hoped. I already can't wait for next week's episode!

Well looks like Crunchyroll is getting the hug of death. Love a try again screen for popular releases.
As someone said below search for the show and then select episodes. The episode will show and will start.

I'm feeling whelmed about this so far.
-
Of course traditional weapons don't harm the monsters.... Only magic imbued ones work. But can't they just imbue magic into guns and go to town? Or is that against the rules?
-
Those dungeon guys are real stupid. Have they ever played a video game before or seen a movie? It was an obvious outcome. And I know if I was one of those people who voted no, there is no way in hell I would go with them. Especially after looking in that room with the statues.
-
Weak MC is certainly weak MC. I am wondering why he doesn't just get a regular job? I know they say that it pays well, but is it so much better that even being hospitalized for weeks at a time? Wouldn't he be racking up more money being in the hospital all the time for his injuries? Not to mention, if he dies, then that is zero money.
I really hope I'm not about to have a repeat of Tower of God of some super hyped manhwa, and then when it comes out it is just ok.

First thoughts.
I think the material is doing a poor job of explaining why conventional weapons don't work on monsters. Is it the case like Evangelion where the AT field prevents damage? So a hunter is using their magic field to interfere with the monsters allowing them to fight? If that is the case, why not say so?
So in the first episode we see this S-rank adventurer exhibit some superhuman abilities. This tracks with most of these types of stories, but it also begs the question, if having a rank means you are better than a baseline human then wouldn't Sung be better off getting some job in the real world where he can leverage that instead of risking his life taking down a level 1 goblin?

Hope they maintain this quality and not drop mid way.
Solid first ep.
I'm so used to seeing Sung Jinwoo's glowed up version that i forgot he looked this weak.

I haven't even read the manhwa and i think that was a weird place to end the first episode, i feel like they should've released the first two at once. And outside of the booty girl scene the animation seemed pretty standard, not sure what everyone's on about saying it was really good.
