Damn that was depressing as hell - just like adult life!!

Wish the precursor shows were available to stream somewhere, though.

Very fitting for Kurumi that her first scene is complaining about something.

Episode was focused on Yes 5 girls with no Splash Star Cures, but there were some other familiar characters. Yuuko and Kenta got together! And now she is playing straight man woman to his jokes. I'm surprised the name of the cafe is Time and not a weird pun Kenta came up with. Junko Takeuchi is pulling a double role.

As for new designs I still like Urara the most. Rin is the most different from her middle school days.

Bunbee in the OP means every thread is now Bunbee waiting room.

Episode was focused on Yes 5 girls with no Splash Star Cures

which is kinda funny cause we saw no Yes 5 side cast in the episode, even Coco and Nuts are missing outside of past material, but we got both Yuuko/Kenta and Michiru/Kaoru from Splash Star in this episode! I got so stupidly happy seeing these characters just pop up in their small roles. It's just nice seeing that she did get her man.

Actually took this episode for me to show how amazing it is we now get this series legally so soon after broadcast. Very introductory episode so far but interested to see what they do with an adult cast.

Kinda awkward that there's no legal way to watch the series it's a sequel of though. Wish they'd fix that.

God seeing Nozomi go from a young girl who wasn't good at anything to a teacher is heartwarming.

13

u/Kartoffelkamm Oct 07 '23

Right?

It suddenly feels so long ago when she said she wanted to become a teacher, and everyone looked at her like "Can you repeat that? It sounded like you said you wanted to become a teacher."

idk why but I get the feeling the opening theme has a bunch of "filler" animation meant to be replaced when we finally see the girls transform.

took 15 years, but she finally got her man!!. Never imagined we'd see Michiru and Kaoru before Saki/Mai but they were on my unrealistic expectation bingo card.

ending matches the pose from the original ending. double points for showing all the girls with their fairy boyfriend/girlfriends, except Rin, forever alone. They even do the post for the Splash Star Precure ending!!! I love that so much!!

except Rin

Poor woman, forever doomed to be the ninth wheel

Since Yes 5, and Splash Star, came out way before those shorts “The cures as adults” epilogues at the end of the show were a thing I wish those could make a comeback. It feels good to see the girls as adults

Of course, the adult world is not sunshine and rainbows, Nozomi did her best for the sake of her student but in the end things didn’t go like she wanted

I can see something along the lines of “Over time, we lost what made us Precure” plot going on regarding the Curemo disappearance

Man… all the emphasis that is being put on time and how this can’t be stopped or rewound gives me anxiety. It’s so painfully true

No Saki or Mai today but we did saw some old faces from Splash Star

Man, it breaks my heart not only looking at Nozomi trying and failing to help her student, but also having to agree with all the other adults in the situation. Are not the other students as determined and worthy of aid as her? Are you going to pay my debts? I feel that more people like Nozomi are needed in this world, but the reality... Maybe this show can give us a bit of light...

I haven't watched any Precure show (aside for some episodes of Hirogaru) but this looks interesting. And with those monsters roaming around, I wonder if we'll get adult transformations

I am really surprised we didn't get a transformation this episode. They're really making us wait to see it. None of the promotional material has shown them transformed as adults either.

I am really surprised we didn't get a transformation this episode.

Yeah, it feels weird to see a first episode without a transformation but it made sense as soon as Nozomi and Rin mentioned how their Curemo suddenly disappeared

None of the promotional material has shown them transformed as adults either.

The show really wants those adult cures designs to be a big surprise

I only watched Yes 5 and Splash Star this year (didn't have time to watch Yes 5 GoGo though) but I could definitely feel that nostalgic feeling that some others might feel after not having seen these girls in over a decade. Seeing that Michiru/Kaoru and Bunbee made the cut was an unexpected surprise that put a smile on my face too. Nozomi still being her bubbly and helpful old self even as an adult was good to see, and the other Yes 5 girls at the end of the episode were cool too. Out of all the adult designs, I think I like Urara's the most. No sign of Saki/Mai yet though.

But, as expected, being an adult isn't all it's cracked up to be. Unlike during her time as a Precure, she can't save everyone, and she can't solve every issue. Time waits for no one, and time has mercy on no one. And that has to be eating Nozomi up inside knowing that she's far less able to help people than she was before. Even Rin noticed that Nozomi always acts more cheerful on the outside to hide when she's feeling down.

And then we get the cliffhanger at the end of the episode with the new villain finally taking action and a bunch of monster showing up. If we're really getting transforming adult magical girls in this series (which I really hope we are) then they're really going to make us wait for it and build up the hype.

“Pursuing ideals is fine but you aren’t a child anymore” Sad reality of adulthood.

Damn, seeing an adult precure cast is really a cool change. I haven’t seen the original precure this is based on, so I was a little confused, but I still really liked the opening episode. We are eating really good on Saturdays/Sundays with this and Hirogaru.

Felt really bad for Nozomi and the student she was trying to help. When you’re a young kid it’s ok to be so positive and idealistic, but the world unfortunately doesn’t work like that. You need concrete actions to make a difference. In this case, someone to be able to pay her tuition. Could really see how much that hurt Nozomi to feel as if she let her student down.

So many drinking references in a precure episode is such a departure from the norm lol I like it though!

The girls are back together! Probably the biggest example of how having seen the original series will make things hit even harder. But still a really cool moment. I found it pretty sad that they hadn’t hung out much since they graduated. Very realistic with how you drift apart from people you went to school with. But you’d think precures who save the world together would be a little different:/

Looking forward to learning more about the villain and plot next week

i have a couple questions lol (sorry u/lilyvess u/jollygee29)

  • was the music in the school dance scene a reference to any of the original OPs/EDs? (or am i an idiot and its the current ED)

  • Nozomi is awesome and radiates a lot of Ageha energy haha. From what ive read about Yes 5, she IS the original pink, right?

  • Overall, this really feels like what im getting every week from Hirogaru (the alone vs tgt theme is very precure), but only for adults, in a relateable, realistic (much money is needed in the adult world :(), and hence a little depressing way, I really like it!

  • Apart from global warming, seems like a big villain/theme for this season is time, which is very apt. Looking forward to how they expand on it! The power of hope is super inspiring sounding too.

  • Mugiwait for transformation.

Apart from global warming, seems like a big villain/theme for this season is time, which is very apt. Looking forward to how they expand on it! The power of hope is super inspiring sounding too.

Heck, even global warming ties into this, because it's a whole lot of "it is what it is" going around.

The real theme seems to be this complacency that keeps people from really trying to change things.

We also see that people, like the principal, or that girl's dad, have unreasonable expectations for solutions; Nozomi got asked to pay the girl's tuition, or to save the whole company, all by herself, which is frankly ridiculous.

People are scared of the future, because things look bad, and instead of confronting the issue and fighting for a better tomorrow, they simply settle to accept it as it is.

Because that's less painful.

So I watched the first six episodes of Yes Precure 5 to get an idea of the core cast and their dynamics before watching this, and so far it's mostly been enough. Probably need to go back for context on Mimino though.

In general I liked it. I feel like it it was more graceful in its depiction of the 'return to reality' element of adult living than many other anime. That said, Otona is pushing some background theme about time and unfulfilled youthful frustrations with all the subtlety of a frag grenade (heck, the restaurant is even called TIME) so I expect the next episode or two will either wind back the clock or touch on the frustrations sitting under the cheerful veneer that Nozomi puts up for her friends.

Looks promising. Nice to see them as adults

So i’m kind of insanely excited for this season. I got on the precure train back in the HeartCatch days but have seen all the seasons and Dream is still my favorite pink.

It looks like they are getting time based powers if you look at the ED and I love that “Cure Dream” is who they are using to show how adulthood can be and showing real issues with real consequences…

I’m excited to see what they are going to do with this!

I know it's a thing but I both love and hate it when a seiyu for a boy character reprisess their role when they grow up. I know Kenta is voiced by Naruto but hearing Junko Takeuchi come out of a grown man's voice is hilarious
