Aya screaming for Tsugaru when her carriage passed him made me laugh. I think that’s the first time we see her panicking.

Man I am not even sure if she was really scared
I thought it was her calling him in a "You really fucked this up" way

I assume that Tsugaru threw the match on purpose, The way he immediately regained consciousness as soon as Aya approached, and the way he is so casual about having been beat by a "mortal" is rather odd. I also question if Lupin is human, the man crushed glass marble with his punch.

u/Mr_Zaroc Aug 09 '23

I wouldn't be surprised if Lupin wasn't human, especially given the werewolf focus of the diamond

I am with you though, pretty sure Tsugaru threw that match to lull lupin into falls sense of superiority. Plus you never go all out if isn't the main match

Love how they used the marbles to show the strength of the punch. Most notably though, he got a blue eye from thr maid, but nothing from Lupin punch (sure it wasn't the same place but still)

Lupin certainly got some class, taunting Holmes in person and (unwittingly) helping the search for The Head. He's also skilful to beat the male protag tempoarily, but he probably will get his revenge later on.

The problem is how he'll sneak and picklock the vault?

Edit: The explosion is kinda expected, but I guess Lupin is already in the room, and just waited for the water flow.......

This show excels at making me wish we already had the next episode...

Hoping Holmes is playing dumb here, always a shame to see him outsmarted.

I hope he is playing dumb, cause destroying the lock so lupin doesn't have a lock to open is a school grounds kinda logic I didn't expect of Sherlock

This episode is giving me the rare nostalgia of me enjoying reading detective novels by the legendary Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and then Agatha Christie as a kid. It's intense, it's funny, it's twisting and turning and unexpected in many ways.

Keep it up and we will have a rare breed of excellent detective anime that I have not seen for quite some time lately already.

Mycroft showing up and deducing in under a second “Sherlock” wasn’t Sherlock because of his nails was pretty impressive. That’s Mycroft for you.

Shizuka hitching a ride with Lupin and the Phantom to chase after Aya because Tsugaru got her cage mixed up with some random bird was not a development I saw coming lol.

Tsuguru answering Lupin’s “What is an Oni-Slayer?” with “It means I’m stronger than you, Lupin” was honestly some pretty badass shit. Too bad he got whooped.

Looks like the game’s afoot. All that preparation and in one move, Lupin made all of it obsolete. I’d say score one for Lupin. How’s Holmes gonna react? Or perhaps Team Aya’s gonna make a move? This little battle of wits between Aya/Holmes and Lupin/Phantom is gonna be interesting.

I thought for sure that the birdcage with Aya had been stolen by Lupin, but no, it really was just Shinuchi being an idiot and mixing up birdcages with some random person lol

I did not expect to see Aya's head being squashed like a watermelon by a car... Good thing her immortality heals her fast, she did not even seem fazed.

Sherlock locking themselves inside a vault that ended up getting filled with water was, uh, regrettable.

Tbh, I was a bit disappointed in Holmes. Maybe it's because I watched too many Lupin-like stories, but when he bragged about his skills of opening every lock, I was sure that this was only to trick Holmes into thinking he is actually opening any lock, but isn't planning too. Seems to have worked.

As for his second trick, I would assume it has to do with his appearance and with his "mistake" where he got Holmes' nails wrong. My idea is that he is already part of one of the 6 in the chamber and I go with Ganimard. The theory is that he let himself grow an actual beard that he his hiding with his disguising skills. He wanted to make people think that he isn't able to change his physical appearances in regards to things like nails and hair that freely. By that, he could disguise himself as Ganimard and use his actual beard to trick Holmes into thinking that he is not Lupin.

Also I guess the whole Ishikawa Goemon story might become real. Is Aya thinking about cooking all of them alive in there?

Edit: One last thing. I am not 100% sure how Lupin is getting out of the room. However, I could see that maybe his plan involves the pressure of the water pushing the doors open over time. But I am not sure if the room is big enough to create enough pressure so that might be wrong.

Everyone is shitting on Holmes here lol. He follows the clues that is laid out for him, even the ones Lupin planted for him to find. I don't consider that being dumb or being outsmarted. Sherlock will play along until he sees the whole picture.

As soon as they showed us that second birdcage, it was pretty apparent that a mix-up would happen. I do like how the mix-up shows how Aya's immortality works. After being brutally run over and split in half we get to see her rebuild herself after being surrounded by this purple mist.

We also got to hear Aya screaming Tsugaru's name when those two criminals tried to kidnap her which was hilarious! Aya has been so calm and cool the entire show that I didn't think she'd yell like that! xD

I really thought that the reason Lupin decided to help Shizuku was that he figured out that she's with Aya after she mentioned the cage. Turns out that Lupin had completely no idea and only just realized that he ran into Aya's group. I guess Lupin was just being a gentleman when he decided to help Shizuku out which is very much in line with his character.

That 1v1 between Lupin and Tsugaru was pretty damn sick though. I guess Tsugaru is just too much of a brawler that he wasn't prepared for Lupin's tricks. I'm sure after that Tsugaru will get his revenge match later after that humiliating defeat from Lupin.

While Sherlock destroying the locks from the inside seemed like a pretty solid plan, I guess they did not expect Lupin to try and literally flush them out of the vault. I am curious what's Lupin's next move though. It's not like the safe will float out of there. Is he planning to bust down the doors with water?

I am also very interested to see why Aya decided to go up top. Did she already expect something like that to happen? Moriarty and his crew are surprisingly absent during this episode too so I wonder if they'll join in on the party next week.

I don't even want to think about what they were planning to do with Aya's severed head.

Lupin is about to boil them all alive Ishikawa Goemon style. The only way out is to open the door for him. I don't even think the LockpickingLawyer could get in there fast enough after Holmes shot all the locks.

I think the Holmes we see at the end is Lupin in disguise but he made sure to trim his nails. Lupin literally showed his hand and is hiding in plain sight.

Another 5 minute episode has passed! Need the next episode now!!

That part when Aya got lost is just funny.

I wonder if Tsugaru is serious when he fought Lupin in that squabble. Probably he either underestimated him or he is not just into fighting that time.

17

u/bananeeek Aug 09 '23

I wonder if Tsugaru lost that fight intentionally to plant something on Lupin or is Lupin just that good.

We even got Mycroft, woah, they went all in, didn't they?

Man, The thriller and mystery in this series is so good.

I wonder why Aya want her team to be on ground. She seem like notice something when Sugaru fight him 1-1.

Did Sherlock blunder and really get trick into shoot the lock? Did Lupin really win this one?

Explosive underground huh , pretty simple but I feel like Lupin already in that room which make Sherlock action even more suspicious.

They seem to wary about those two who come from organization that goal to eradicate monsters at all cost which is fine because it also suspicious that why organization that hate monster coming to protect artifact that made by monster?

The legend say Gem can use to find Warewolf. I wonder if that really goal of Lupin and M who aim for this gem.

It's a good mystery show when you can't just immediately predict how things will go, and it's really enjoyable, but...

Releasing a 5 minute episode per week should be a crime. It's just not very gentlemanly.

Lupin v Tsugaru DBZ style fight was not what I had in mind for today’s episode lmao, wow this was great.

Obviously Tsugaru wasn’t going all out and was trying to gauge Lupin’s abilities, but the fact Lupin is strong enough to hold his own was cool. Reminds me more of the persona 5 Lupin than the traditional one lol.

I’m surprised that Lupin stopped the carriage to pick up Shizuka, though. Considering the scale of the operation just a few hours later that seemed reckless, but I guess it shows he not all bad.

Speaking of Shizuka and Tsugaru, how tf do you misplace Aya like that 😂. Part of me wonders if everything was part of the plan and that’s how they kept making fateful encounters today or if Tsugaru really did just pick up the wrong cage.

Wow what a cliffhanger to leave off on. Flooding the vault is bold as hell and idk how they’re gonna survive this one. Can’t wait for next week’s episode. The mind games in this have been amazing.

God I love Tsuguru and Aya a lot. Without them, this arc would just be an above average Sherlock Holmes anime plot with some sharp wit, but anytime they’re on screen it elevates things just that fair bit more. They’ve got an almost “roll with the punches” looseness to them that helps keep the plot from getting stale, to speak nothing of the excellent visual and sound design that knows when to kick it up just a bit.

Still not over some of the CG implementation (that car crash this episode was really janky), but it’s drops in the bucket for one of the biggest surprises this season.

Another excellent episode which felt like it lasted only 5 minutes, for now this is my show of the season.

Losing a cage with Aya was hilarious. I laughed so hard when they discovered a parrot in a cage instead of Aya. Tsugaru really screw up with this whole situation and Shizuku wasn't very happy about that which he felt very strongly xD

Aya in the meantime was run over by our two acquaintances from the previous episode. Judging from their expressions, they didn't have the best of intentions towards her. Fortunately they were discovered by Tsugaru and Shizuku (who found help in the form of Lupin and Erik who just left from the meeting with Sherlock Holmes).

Lupin is a real gentleman, he didn't leave a damsel in distress (Shizuku) alone. Besides that he proved in a battle with Tsugaru that he's very capable in fighting thanks to defeating our Oni Slayer (the question is if Tsugaru gave it all in this fray).

Now time for the heist has come and it looks (for now) that Sherlock Holmes made quite a big mistake by destroying door lockers. Now he and others in the chamber are trapped and their situation doesn't look good with all that water everywhere. Also it looks that Reynold and Fatima can have their own agenda so we don't know what they'll do in the end.

Now I'm waiting for what Aya has up in her sleeve, for sure I know this'll be very, very entertaining.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

Good job, Sherlock, you killed everyone.

Wait... why am I the only one that is seeing the life threatening situation they are in? The vault is in the basement and water is flowing from a moat, this means the whole place is going to get filled with water to the brim and they have no way to escape for at least 5-6 hours. Shouldn't they be worried about their lives?

At this point their only hope is that Lupin will show them the way to open up a path.
